You can think of a reasonable way to say that an in game effect used against players should have a way to be completely negated all the time that makes more sense then removing the mechanic itself?

Not likely to work well at all with different sized tunes...

Quote:...Hi:
While the old ATs have an old classic flavor and feel to their power sets, when compared with the new power sets. Yet the new power sets have some very capable abilities that the oldies simply don't have. I would like to see, the old AT power sets, maybe be relooked at and perhaps some of their new abilities incorporated.
For example, look at the Scrapper Martial Arts set. While a flashy fun set, it has serious shortfalls to it. For one, you need to buy lots of powers tog et basic coverage and AOE type attack defense, really comes late in the game for MA users. Perhaps in the begining of CoH AOE attacks were not envisioned as being common in the low level game play and it would steadely increase so by the time AOE protection became available the power would be in place "just in time"; sadly the use of AOEs by mobs seems pretty consistent at all levels as the game as evolved to what it is today. Also note that all of the new defensive sets have an area taunt/debuff capability that also buffs the user, MA does not have it. The new defensive sets for Scrappers to tend to include a self rez, which i snot available either for the old MA power set.
What I would suggest for MA for instance, is that passive and active AOE defense powers be eliminated from MA and be integrated to the Range passive and AOE power set accordingly. With the 2 new slots introduce the PBAOE debuff/buff/taunt and self rez.
There are many other defensive power sets that needs to be re-looked at such as fireshield for tankers and what not; so if you all have power sets out there that needs to be re-looked at and have suggestions, why not post them below?

MA is a melee set it. -
I think it would be funny if a (bunny girl avatared) marketing rep showed up on the forums explaining how they can't do more advertising because of the budget they are allowed so we can play more blame shiftaroo.

Quote:Oh man can we please find ways to exploit RMTers for lulz and profit? They should just put fully functional trial codes in cereal boxes.
Why yes Mr. Kellog, if you put this code in your box, we promote our game. On the other hand, thousands of cereal boxes will be bought by RMT Spammers to get the codes, we'll ban them within a day or two, at which point they'll go back and buy some more. I do believe we have a win/win deal right here. -

Quote:Did someone a long while back propose printing out Arachnos and Longbow recruitment posters and doing our own viral (did I use that right) ad campaign?I am all in favor of drawing new, long-term subscribers to the game. I am also painfully aware that marketing has done a horrible job of advertising this game. As others have pointed out, word-of-mouth just doesn't cut it.
I can see the effects of a slowly declining membership in Atlas Park alone. I used to like to hang out there with my 50s and pass out influence to characters with no 3-month vet badge if I thought their characters were well-designed and had great bios. Lately, it's really hard to find a character with less than 18 months worth of vet badges. That speaks volumes.
Now, the question remains: What to do about it. If marketing can't be bothered, a grass-roots effort may, in fact, be called for. Some think that Facebook is a great venue, and I don't altogether disagree with that. But we've also seen other sites rise to the occasion to provide valuable services to the COX community (BadgeHunter, COHTitan, and so on).
I propose that we might consider a grass-roots advertising campaign using subscriber-created posters and videos. I, myself, would be willing to provide the website for it (though you'll have to put up with my hokey domain name), as long as others would be willing to provide the content. I'm not all that great with graphics-editing software, and I don't know squat about video composition.
But imagine what we could do if we had a link we could share with folks on our Facebook or Twitter accounts (if we so chose) that took potential new subscribers to a custom page that contained TONS of advertisements for the game. Posters, video trailers, screenshots, tutorials, testimonials from long-term subscribers. We could potentially build a far-better advertising movement than Paragon/NCSoft has. All it would take is some interest and commitment.
Start small, and build from there. I know we have some very talented people in this community. If the Marketing Department won't do it, maybe it's time we jumped in and did something about it. We shouldn't have to, that's true; but we want to see this game be successful every bit as much (if not moreso) than the Devs and the rest of NCSoft. -
I've got an idea to increase subscription numbers. Fist we advertise on Penny Arcade. Then we get a CoH twitter and maybe Facebook page. Then we release a new expansion tog et shelf spots!

In fact just dump in on top of the wedding stuff. ^_^

Quote:7-10 friends is massive? No, I do not have some massive network of folks at my beck and call, hence why I rely on PUGs. I even take a stab at leading them now and again. But if all of the PUGs were doing TFs, and everyone else was waiting to get on a TF team, I can't exactly be choosy, huh?
Um...in a way, yes? A large part of the problem with the AE abuse was that newer players were getting sucked into it to the point where they thought that was the entire game, because AE teams were making up at least 90% of the teaming activity in Atlas Park.
Were there non-AE teams? Oh, sure. Though I largely suspect they were being run by people that knew better. A bit different from a weekend where the devs themselves implicitly promote running nothing but TFs. -
You know what would also be awesome.
Rikti plushies! -
Oh the things I would offer...

Quote:Sounds like you need to make more in game friends if the only thing you can do to team is what random people enjoy.Unless my memory is off, double XP doesn't apply to the AE anyway. Nor would I say that people running the ITF nonstop is somehow "out in the world".
If an overwhelming majority of the populace is speed-running TFs, then yes, I am being forced to "get 2x merits" if I'd like to actually have a team. Moreover, if this is supposed to some kind of scheme to draw people back to the game, then I don't really think I want the kind of people back who are only concerned about amassing ludicrous amounts of merits.
Edit: And to be clear here, I'm not exactly concerned with being burdened with merits. I'm concerned with the normal flow of the game and teaming being massively disrupted.
It's like saying the massive AE exploiting was causing people to exploit AE for a team. -
Why would an invasion have a long delay from the tease. They can just turn invasions on during server down time.
The longer the delay the higher I plan on stacking my hopes till cold reality smashes them into shiny piles of despair and I drown my sorrows in Pocket D.
