Thanks, though it might be a little late for "welcome" since I've been playing on and off on this server for over a year
I went ahead and joined the "Freedom Events" channel. Almost seems like an SG all its own except without a base xD
Looking forward to doing some more organized events instead of just doing random PuGs all day -
So I've been playing CoX off and on for quite a while now, mostly on Freedom. I don't have any 50s due mostly to my altoholic nature as well as inadvertently deleting toons I didn't think I'd play anymore (usually before I took a 'break' I thought would be more permanent).
Right now I'm leveling Gaiadin, my 31 Shield/Stone tanker who I'm confident I'll get to 50 as he's amazingly fun to play.
I've never really posted on this forum. I've played several other MMOs and never really contributed much to the server forums there either because in other games most everything is taken care of in your "guild". Since I haven't had much luck with SGs (mostly I've just seen them as another means of transportation as I seem to either join dead ones with a handful of people on who rarely talk, or ones that are active but a bit too 'hardcore' for my tastes, although I myself would probably be classified as a hardcore player I tend to enjoy CoX in a more casual light) I was looking to become more active on the forums here since it seems quite a few events are organized here, and also joining in on one of the global channels as well. I'm growing a bit bored with just making radio teams all day long and want to be a part of something a bit...bigger.
So anyway, just wanting to let everyone know I'd like to do my part to become a valued member of the community here -
I actually agree with Nethergoat here. I think it's silly to pre-judge someone based on their experience. Yeah, this guy might have been playing longer than that guy, but that doesn't mean he's learned anything in that time, and it doesn't mean the other guy isn't willing to learn some new things.
Some of the coolest people you'll meet and play with in an MMO are newer people, and some of the most obnoxious are the vets who think they're hot stuff when they're not.
I was searching for people to fill in on a team and someone actually had in their search comment: "57 month vet--no blind invites--You better know your **** if you invite me cuz I know I'm good". Yeah, he didn't get a whisper from me asking to team...
Personally, to me attitude is more important than playing ability. Even if you're the greatest player ever if your attitude sucks I won't really wanna play with you. -
Commander, I wouldn't even bother arguing with Nethergoat.
Most likely he's just upset about the downfall of AE and is looking to stir up and piss off as many people on the forums as possible. Not worth your time.
Anyway, I'm not convinced someone would just spontaneously insult you out of nowhere on a basis built totally on assumption. Guy must have been having a bad day or something and looking to pick a fight with anyone over anything. Probably upset over the "loss" of AE just like so many others.
My advice to these people would be to just get over it. Pissing random people off isn't going to change anything. All it does is sink you down to the level of a 12 year old schoolyard bully, assuming most of these people are, ya know, actual adults. -
I actually was starting not to mind AE farms anymore once I realized after I began to pretty much only make my own teams (and searching for people outside of just the zone I was looking to do missions in) that a lot of the people in Atlas Park weren't only looking for AE teams since most of the people I recruited were in Atlas when I whispered them.
Still, I'm glad to see the game is slowly turning back into City of Heroes instead of Atlas Park of Heroes (for redside I guess the equivalent would be "Cap of Villains").
Was chatting with a few people in AP earlier and someone was talking about some 50s he met right after Issue 16 that he had to actually direct to KR and the train in Atlas because they had never left the zone and had no idea where to go...sad... -
I'm just gonna go ahead and say it...
I never really agreed with FOTM players. Why? Because most of them are only "good" because of their class. If they were to play any "normal" class most of them would be horrible, yet because they play the current god-mode class they think they're hot stuff when they really aren't.
Essentially I see it as earning something without really earning it, ya know?
Personally I believe most of the nerfs and buffs classes receive in every MMO are unnecessary, because they aren't adjusting class' strength, they're adjusting to individual player skill. You can never truly have perfect game balance in an MMO because everyone has different levels of playing skill, and for most players instead of accepting the fact that they just suck at the class they've chosen to play they blame the class itself and cry at other classes for being "OP" and for their class sucking, when in actuality it's them that's the problem.
Someone mentioned the warlock class from WoW. I played WoW for 3 years. I played it back before any expansion, and I have never thought the warlock class was OP. Why? Because instead of whining about it on the forums and yelling for nerfs or rerolling one as all the "FOTM" players did I actually determined why they were considered OP and found a way to counteract that strength. I'd wager that if more players had taken that path instead of crying to the devs then a lot of the buffs/nerfs classes received would never have needed to be done, or would have been done to a lesser degree.
Anyway, this is starting to turn into a rant so I'll just end it at that. It's just that this is one of the topics I've always had a very heated opinion about. -
Quote:I'd get Irradiate. Coupled with Power Boost it alone will reduce the defense of everything it hits by 37.5%I also don't have Irradiate. It doesn't seem to do a lot of damage either. I could get Stun or Conserve Power.
Thanks for any advice!
Even if you don't use any melee powers it shouldn't be a big deal to jump in, use Irradiate, and jump out. -
So I've got a minor minor problem with a keybind. I bound my Call Thugs/Enforcer powers and everytime I hit my keybind it says "Unknown Command: 4" twice. Why does it do this and how do I get it to stop?
My bind is /bind lshift+1 "powexec_name Call Thugs". Standard bind for any power really.
Edit: Ok it seems to do it whenever I hit left shift, not just a keybind...and it only does it on my Mastermind... -
Was reading through the Kat/Regen guide and kinda following along putting the build together on mids' (yeah that's probably kinda weird...) and I noticed when I slotted Integration with healing enhancements the regen only went up by 0.9% (to a total of 51.9% from 51%).
Is this a bug with mid's or does Integration not really benefit from healing enhancements anymore?
Edit: Well I checked the totals tab just to see how it affected my total regen and my regen increased by almost 100% after I slotted Integration with 3 healing SOs. I'm confused why the regen on the info tab only goes up by 0.9% -
So my brother talked me into making an MM with him and some of our friends and OMG is it a blast. There's 5 of us and we have one of each MM primary (I'm playing a Thugs/TA), and it's just so crazy on missions because all of us together are like a small army. I remember one mission we were doing last night in a cave and in one tunnel I just couldn't move because of how many mobs and minions were packed together xD
I'm only like lvl 9 (I think the highest lvl in our little squad is like 15-20 or something) but it's already a lot of fun and I can't wait till I get my higher lvl minions. My friends keep telling me I'm gonna love one of my guys because he throws grenades and cocktails and sets things on fire (I do like setting things on fire...). Eventually we're going to try our hand at running a few SFs with just the 5 of us. One of my friends is like, "Man once we get higher lvl we're just going to be able to power through anything". I can't wait...
I think the reason I'm having so much fun is because this is my first MM ever, and I gotta be honest I was (and still am) a bit overwhelmed at how much deeper and "micro-mangagey" playing an MM can be, but at least they managed to present it in a fun way and not in a tedious way like they do with pet classes in some other MMOs (IMO at least). I did go ahead and set up binds using the numpad so that has made managing my pets a thousand times easier.
Anyway, I was also wondering if you guys would take a look at my build. It's more of a "semi-final" build, no purple sets or anything but a few are quite expensive. I designed this build around slotting recommendations I found in a few of the guides. I kinda had to what with my very very limited expertise with the MM AT.

Quote:And what exactly is a "force multiplier"? It sounds to me like you're suggesting SSK is going to turn CoX into a soloing game. The discussion thus far has had very little to do with what various ATs contribute to a team and very much to do with which ATs have good, or consistently good, solo performance - because it is these who stand to benefit from team size multipliers. On the other hand, force multiplier ATs benefit from SSK.
Incidentally, it'll be interesting to see if the game segregates into two populations: soloists running multiplied missions alone, and force multipliers teaming up via SSK to take on TFs or +4 missions. -
Quote:I've been playing MMOs for over 6 years, and there's a few universal things I've noticed from game to game.Hi all I'm n00b.
I also do not understand the purpose of the first post in this thread.
Doesn't the fact this game has different ArchTypes mean they would naturally have different capabilities?
Otherwise this game would only have two ATs: Hero & Villain.
One of those things is the "grass is always greener" mentality that I think was mentioned previously in this thread. It's typical for players of one AT or class to feel that others have it better and they got the short end of the stick. What this really boils down to is that people are quicker to make not of other player's pros and their own cons.
This ties into the other thing: Players almost always blame the class before themselves, when most likely the opposite is more often true. What I mean is, if you take an average player and put him in a PvP situation and he gets his butt handed to him what's he most likely going to do?
A) Realize that maybe the class/AT just isn't for him and maybe he should play something else, or that he just can't play the game well.
B) Start cursing and complaining that the class itself is terrible and rush to the forums to make a post about it.
I'd wager that the majority of the buffs/nerfs many classes have received throughout MMOs weren't necessary to the actual balance of the game. -
Quote:My point was that if I'm playing a Controller I'm not going to whine about not being able to do as much damage as a Scrapper (as the OP suggests they would) because quite frankly A) I think it's a ridiculous thing to complain about, because you're basically complaining about something the AT just wasn't designed to do a lot of (with certain exceptions of course *cough*fire/kin*cough*), and B) because for me at least when I role a Controller or Defender I'm not looking to do tons upon tons of damage. IMO those aren't the right ATs to play if damage is your cup of tea. That's not to say there's a few combinations of Defenders and Controllers that can do good damage, I'm mainly just talking in general here.Every character's performance is limited by whether they can provide adequate survivability, and then by how much damage they can generate.
Just not necessarily their own survivability or damage.
Generally speaking a Scrapper/Blaster will do more damage than a Controller/Defender, so in general terms someone would be better off making a Scrapper/Blaster if damage is all they care about, and that's why I think it's silly to say "Controllers suck compared to Scrappers because Scrappers do a lot more damage". If that isn't a "well duh" statement I don't know what is...
My overall point is I just think it's unfair to compare two or more ATs to each whose roles are totally different. You don't invite a Controller to your team for the same reasons you invite a Scrapper, so why should they be compared on the same basis? -
-
You know, this might be a bit of a naive point to make, but something tells me the OPs points would be true...if every other AT was trying to play exactly like a scrapper. IMO the only ATs that directly compare to Scrappers are the other melee ATs (Brutes, Tankers, and Stalkers), and really not even Tankers IMO since they're usually more focused on beefing up their survivability and not so much their damage.
Trying to compare, for instance, a Controller to a Scrapper is like comparing an apple to a pack of spaghetti noodles. They fulfill completely separate roles. Maybe it's just me, but when I make a Controller or a Defender I'm not typically looking to maximize my damage because that's not the role I feel those ATs were designed to fulfill. If I wanted to maximize damage I'd role a Blaster or Scrapper instead.
Like I said, my point might be a little naive, but I just feel that the OP is wrong based on his point of view that every single person in CoX is only concerned with maximizing damage, when they aren't. -
One slot? Probably accuracy. I've played MMOs for over 6 years and one universal rule I've always followed was "it doesn't matter how hard you hit if you can't hit". Yeah, you're not talking about damage but I feel the same principal applies. It doesn't matter how much threat you can generate if you can't land the attack.
-
Couple of things that might help you out:
At lower levels I'd really only slot accuracy and end reduction in your attacks. Damage is nice, but IMO it's more important to be able to maintain endurance and not whiff your attacks before you have access to stamina and SOs.
Also, if damage is your cup of tea and you're determined to play a tanker, might I suggest trying out Shield Defense? The taunt aura for Shields, Against All Odds, gives you a permanent 10% damage buff as well as an additional 5.5% damage bonus for each mob near you up to a total of 55%. I'm lvling a SD/SM tanker right now and he's loads of fun, and my damage output is quite satisfying despite not having any damage enhancers in my attacks. -
Something tells me the devs aren't even "testing". They're probably just running around yelling YAHOOOOOOOOOO! because they can D:
Of course, that's my paranoia and impatience talking... -

Really I've been finding out recently that a lot of the people who hang around Atlas aren't only looking for AE farms, they just want a team in general. The only reason they're in Atlas is because that's where everyone else is.
90% of the teams I've been on in the past few days have been made exclusively by me and most of the people I end up recruiting are in Atlas when I whisper them. -
