That clasisc comicbook set-up is reflected perfectly in the blue side content - we arrest criminals, assist the police and government agencies, and even work with the UN for some of the major threats - we sometimes run into rogue elements like Longbow agents who have become vigilantes, or corrupt PPD officers - but these are always presented as special cases, which is why we're called in to take them down.
At no point are Heroes ever given any kind of suggestion that helping the authorities might be a bad thing to do.
In this, Praetoria is far more realistic. Blindly serving authority is written as a bad thing to do. Every time corruption is presented as a unique scenario, every time officers are presented as fundamentally just, every time the system is presented as something you have a moral obligation to obey they send the message that this is what the real-world counterparts (in this case, the US, because the game is set in a US with superpowered folks running around) are like. Considering the exact nature of reality, that isn't just inaccurate, it's an outright dangerous message to spread.

Although, even in Praetoria there is mostly the sense that things would be better with nice people in charge instead of nasty people. Systemic flaws aren't mentioned much.
  2. You could have the whole base placed in an environment of your choice and then place normal windows wherever you want.
  3. That would be pretty cool but you'd probably end up with many smaller pools of more distinct weaponry. Otherwise you'd be able to load up on non-stop PBAoE and while that is a reality already for some builds it does require spending tremendous amounts of resources and time on IO sets. An EAT centred around lethal damage with little utility could be balanced, though.

One issue with being able to swap between several weapon sets is customisation. The way to solve that would probably be to just add the extra weapons in under the, well, the Weapons header in the costume editor. That way each of your costumes would technically have their own weapons, even for the sets you aren't currently using. They just wouldn't show.
  4. Disclaimer: I fully understand how unlikely this suggestion is to come to pass.

That said, it would be awesome if you could in fact be a weapon master. This has nothing to do with the badge with that name. What does this even mean, though? That it would be really cool if characters with weapon-based melee sets for their primary or their secondary could complete some form of challenge in order to unlock one other weapon-based primary or secondary melee set available to that archetype that they could then respec in or out of. Of course, they could never actually have powers from two sets at once. Characters without weapon-based melee sets could still complete the challenge but they wouldn't get the special reward. The challenge could be undertaken several times but you would only be able to pick weapon sets you hadn't already unlocked.

This suggestion is thematically reasonable. Many characters should be able to fight with many weapons. From a balance perspective it is also fairly reasonable because the weapon melee sets are so close to each other in functionality. Many of them are clones. You wouldn't apply this reasoning willy-nilly to other melee sets because a weapon is less inherent to ones body than the other powers are commonly portrayed. You could use similar reasoning to allow Magic characters access to several power sets on account of being damn wizards but that's kind of way too much potential utility for a single character. The weapon melee sets are much simpler and all share flavour.

New melee sets wouldn't be available to unlock right away. Some arbitrary amount of time would have to pass so that people get acquainted with it the good old-fashioned way.

The real problem is how to actually implement this. Mutually exclusive multiple power sets that unlock at a particular point are in the game in the form of SoA sets but I can't imagine that you'd just lift the coding from there and swap out just some bits.

Well, that's what I think, anyway. This is driven primarily by the rule of cool. I was just seeing how the different sets looked in the character creator when it struck me that it'd be great to potentially access them all on a single character by simply swapping the weapon somehow. One day you want to play with claws, another you want to hit things with a heavy club and some other day you want to swing a big ole sword around (nothing Freudian about that). It's not like there aint flavour room for a proper all-round warrior.

And the worse part is the devs are giving in to those who want the changes instead of promating different play styles. I'm now seeing the beginning of the end of this game and I'm sad.
The game is ending because Energy Aura was given utility that it needed. lmao. You might as well complain about blast sets containing AoE attacks.

Ahaha, these are adorable. You must spend so much time getting each character to sit just right before you take like a dozen screenshots to sort through.

The only melee that seems to sometimes need it is brutes, at least from what I've seen, so I keep an eye on them and drop it on them if they do get slept (usually the one that seems to get through). If that happens, I add them to my cm roster.

In the absence of AoE cm, key binds work for me, so much easier (and faster) than clicking down the team list.
Why in the hell would anyone be annoyed that you used Clear Mind on them? It's not like it has a long recharge time or anything so you aren't wasting it.

If I make a new character it's likely to be just to goof off. I don't got anything I've levelled to 50 yet (or past 33, for that matter) and I'd like to get to that sometime, y'know? I've made and deleted piles of characters. I just haven't played something so much yet that I grew disinterested in whatever style that character had. I like to use the additional costume slots for different styles, anyway.

I start out making a super hero or super villain. They might be themed around something but they're still recognisably comic book superfolk. As I said already, my Night Widow has a special operations costume. I wouldn't pick this for anyone's main look but it's great for variety. Whenever I run into Ouroboros I feel compelled to make a time traveller costume but I don't even know where to start with that. Eventually I plan to make a Fortunata build for the guy and make a costume designed more around those kinds of powers.

EDIT: I do intentionally make characters of different ethnicities, though. I don't have any female characters because I dislike the twiggy little arms the model has. The male model starts bulky and all but you can at least make it thin.
  9. I guess I design characters to be sort of neo-spandex. A nice, cleanly designed suit without being monochrome. I like using white as a contrast/filler/variety colour. It brightens the suit up without being visually filling. I prefer to use the slightly more muted colours without getting dark. Classic superheroes without being too colourful, I guess. You could probably figure out a style from seeing ten costumes I made without any gimmick to them.

I did decide to see what you could do with the baron jacket the other day. I'm more or less planning on a plant/storm wizard for when I21 hits and had serious trouble coming up with a costume. I wanted something that wasn't too druidic but still nature-themed if only in the abstract and had little luck with it. Combining nature wizard and superhero was just a bit tough. Using a white occult baron jacket with black trim looked great and only got better when I realised that the high collar mantle doesn't have to be the same colour as the cape so I just gave him a regular deep red cape. Black Resistance pants and black baron boots completed the look. In the end, he looked incredible. Not remotely like a nature wizard, though. Still, I went for a look I never thought I would care for and ended up with great results.

Similarly, I made a specops costume for my Night Widow when I got Mask Presence, just as a gimmick. I don't care for normal soldier suits but it still ended up good.

the fundamental idea of EATs is fine and good. Hell, from my perspective, they share the same base idea that VEATs use, but they're victoms of time. they're so outdated, and need to be buffed in order to bring them back up to date and on par with everything else.

they don't need a rewrite overhaul. but i think we could all agree that they need buffing and that if they did do a complete overhaul while still keeping the same basic idea of khelds, that whatever they come up with would mesh much much more adequately and efficiently than it currently does while still keeping the same identify that khelds have.
If a more major overhaul was in order I would want Peacebringers to have a melee buffer feel to them. Mez protection, some simple resistance-based shield and enough PBAoE +res and +regen buffs to attain decent survivability while buffing the team. The shapeshifting powers could be redone to simply give you a tentacled or armour-plated energy aura as appropriate.

The list of power choices could be condensed by splitting them up into Luminous Assault, Luminous Aura, White Nova and White Dwarf akin to what VEATs get and the form toggles would simply lock you out of the powers that don't fit. If you toggled on White Nova Form you would only access your powers from Luminous Assault and White Nova while the dwarf blocked White Nova and Luminous Aura. The tradeoff would be increased damage or surviability, obviously. Light Form could boost your buffing/healing and lock you out of White Nova and White Dwarf powers. Tech exists to have mutually exclusive power choices (Night Widows can pick Follow Up or Build Up but not both) so you could have the forms do pretty dramatic things if you really wanted to.

Banes and Night Widows are in some ways paladin-style close combat support but they don't got quite that flavour. Hey, know what would be a really cool power? A toggle PBAoE +regen buff. Would be great for a melee AT meant to help the team restore life.

Warshades as they are have a much stronger identity so they'd require less effort. Update the way the forms and power selection works and give them an Umbral Form as a counterpoint to Light Form. Maybe it enhances your control powers. Dark Nova could give you secondary effects to your attacks to weaken the enemy in interesting and relevant ways instead of White Nova's more honest +damage. A Corrupter instead of a Blaster.

There's a lot you can do if you move away from the rigid shapeshifting and apply some more modern sensibilities to Kheldians. They could be really awesome. They've got the visuals for it.
  12. If temporary changes to this game due to coding issues have this kind of impact on you I think it'd be best if you took a break and just chilled out. It's a game, y'know, so if it stresses you out it's worthless.

Not all sets are equally easy to use, though. Having some sets be low-maintenance and some sets be high-maintenance is just fine. A single tough pet could be perfectly balanced because it'd most likely lack in the diversity of skills you can tack on to six of them.

Anyone not a fan of the jello portion of the event could just leave at the bottom of the 8th, and they would have still experienced 8/9ths of a good game. If you wanted, you could even just say that whoever was ahead after the end of the 8th was the de facto winner. Yet, somehow, I think the existence of that last inning would spoil the game for quite a few people.
So are we talking just the players or is the audience included here?
  16. Has being able to turn off FX for psychic powers outside of PvP ever been considered?

These sorts of powers are commonly portrayed as invisible apart from the direct effect of telekinesis or the like. Something like Psionic Tornado might be a problem from the practical point of view of deciding how much of the FX should be removed and invisible attacks would be bothersome if NPCs got their hands on them but fighting people with your mind would be a lot neater without the projectiles. Mez effects would have to still be in, though. I think that this would add a huge cool factor to Mind Control and Psychic Blast etc.

Has making alternative effect packs and selling them in the store been considered?

Alternative animations are always popular to suggest. I, for one, would love it if Ice Armour didn't just have the Jack Frost look but could have a subtler frost effect or had something more exotic like ice plate armour (with one toggle giving you chest/shoulder armour, another a belt + boots and the third a helmet/faceplate thing). Icicle options like a circle of hovering blades would be nice, too. This kind of thing would take a bunch of effort and not everyone would care. Selling expanded customisation would be one way to make the effort put into it literally pay off.

Have a guess at which use of the word is both more common and more dehumanising. Hm.
  18. I play a Night Widow. Today I hit level 28 and so had room to pick up Mask Presence. In honour of the occasion I made a spec ops costume and ran around bullying greys. I've also gotten some actual use out of it by opening up on a boss with a crit from Slash and so on.

That's the Stalker Experience in a nutshell only I got actual AoE, team buffs and access to a ranged build as well. Widows and Banes are pretty much Stalkers deluxe. That's kind of sad because sneaking around is a lot of fun and having the AT devoted to it made redundant sucks.

Recolour the psi stuff a ghostly green-blue and you've got yourself a banshee. Or manshee. You can pick a star name and have no connections to your powers or anything. It's pretty fun to do it this way, actually.

    What if....

It would be a hilarious mess. Maybe it'll happen when the game is about to well and truly tank. I'd see it as far likelier to just give each AT access to every one of their potential primaries and secondaries all at once, though. You'd still pick powers at their appropriate levels but you'd have every set for your AT to pick from. Still a hilarious mess but at least there would be differences in playstyle between ATs.

I do wonder what the last hurrah would be.
  21. Examples? Well... I'll just send a PM.

EDIT: Rather, I would, if I could. Her PM inbox is full.
