  1. Have you tried repairing the CoH installation in the NCSoft Launcher?

You can repair by right clicking "CITY OF HEROES" in the side bar and selecting "Repair (Consistency Check)".
  2. Checking out ParagonWiki, the only thing they can be used for without the Invention License would appear to be for purchasing large inspirations and SOs... that doesn't seem very likely to be all that persuasive. Especially considering that it doesn't seem to be doing an excellent job of persuading the VIPs that can get reward merits.

That was a forum wide issue. Everyone was treated as if they were logged out (I had logged in an hour or two before then), and no logins were accepted. If you're having trouble logging in, check the 'New Posts' button at the top of the boards and see how long ago the last post was. If it's been at least, say, 10 minutes, there's a reasonable chance it's a forum-wide issue (although some weird hours of the night might dip that low).

however the HD 7770 is decidedly on the low end on the video card spectrum
Seriously? Wow... the nVidia naming scheme makes so much more sense.

  6. Does the artifact cover all other windows? Does it also cover the Task Manager, if you try to move it over the artifact?

What about on the UAC elevation screen (assuming you didn't disable the secure desktop), can you move that dialog on top of the artifact?

If nothing will cover it, then it's definitely not a window or anything like that (because the UAC screen has its own, completely separate desktop with just static, greyed out screen shot of the standard desktop as background), and probably something up with your drivers.

Could you post a CoH Helper and HiJack This report? It'll help us figure out if there's any software/configuration that might be causing this.
  7. SciFi- I mean SyFy- likely simply couldn't afford it. It had to cost a fortune to make in comparison to... well... all their other shows.

Shame the MMO went bust even before release, something like that would have lots of potential (plus, it's not a fantasy universe pretending to be a scifi universe like some other MMO... nor was it the luxury yacht club future universe).
  8. The specs on the second one are much better. The processor is far high end and is the latest generation (Ivy Bridge). It has 50% more RAM (but 8 GB is quite a good amount already). The video card in the second is also a lot higher end (unfortunately it's AMD, so you'll have to be careful with drivers for compatibility with CoH). The second also includes wifi, but that's either a need it or don't thing.

The first one has two hard drives in a RAID 0 setup, so it should get slightly faster performance in that regard... but RAID 0 drastically increases the odds of losing all the data due to a disk failure (if one goes, the entire array's data is toast), so I'd personally opt for the 2 TB over the RAID 0 setup... and using a SSD + HDD would get you far faster performance anyways.

If the cost of the two are the same, the second wins easily. If they're priced the same, though, that means either the first is being horrible over priced, or the second is a complete steal.
  9. Try relogging. Sometimes the game misses the info about what items you have available.
  10. Well, that's what I get for not bothering to look closely at the ParagonWiki page
  11. Yep, totally could hear it. They likely just pulled from the same set of generic canned sounds.
  12. Around when in the episode? I heard some beeps, but they didn't sound similar...

And since when is SG-1 old school???

I know if I had come back and found all my favorite names taken I'd be unlikely to have actually stayed back. I don't see it as being any different than if I had my names taken away while I was here... I'd probably leave over that just the same.

Then no more monies from me, nor me blessing these here forums with my wonderful, nonpareil self. I'd bet a huge percentage of the playerbase would be similarly displeased about having their names taken by someone else.
  14. That's happened a few times in the past. A good way to figure out if that's what's going on is to check a couple busier sections of the board and see when the last post was... if none of them have had any new posts in similar to the same amount of time, then it's a fairly safe bet it's not just you.

Hell, half the times I've tried names that were taken... it's cause they're names I already took! Even after all these years, I can't seriously claim making a name is any harder than it was on day one.
  16. Would be nice, but seems kinda unlikely to ever happen.

Also, there's a Suggestions and Ideas forum. Probably would get better exposure in that section.

    My thoughts?

It may not agree with everyone else's thoughts.
    I'd agree with these.

To help the system out, you could use /maxfps 30 to cap the FPS at 30, which should help relieve some strain, without making a humanly perceptible difference. I also generally set /maxinactivefps 3 (or a similar <10 number) and alt-out occasionally, putting the game in the background for a few seconds (such as to read the forums ) and then be able to still keep an eye on what's going on, while there's much less load on the system.

You system seems fairly new, so this might not be an issue yet... but laptops often build up lots of dust inside, which makes cooler harder. You could get a can of compressed air and take off the bottom panel, then lightly blow the compressed air in through the exhaust vent (note: do this OUTSIDE unless you want a face & room full of dust!).

Still, those temperatures aren't too bad. They're high, but, all things considered, that's generally to be expected on laptops under heavy load.

  22. You can delete them, and pretty sure you can move them to other servers. You also don't have to use an unlock on a slot with a character if there's empty space on the server (you can just make a new one in a new slot), which is a bit nicer since if you're not to the cap yet, you can recycle the slot without deleting/transferring.
  23. Since you had Vertical Sync (vsync) enabled, your FPS would be capped at your monitors refresh rate (60/second). I'm sure your system is being taxed more by running at a higher resolution, but, not enough to drop you below the cap noticably more often.
  24. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Either way, I'll be gouging my eyes out.
