It's where you're forced to be part of a union, whether you want to or not.

This caught them by surprise as well, almost guarantee it. Would love to get the inside scoop here. Major bummer though. This game is like a second home for me.
It hit Paragon Studios by surprise (read the announcement... part of it was dedicated to the employees!). It would appear that NCSoft blew too much money on marketing GW2, and Aion simply sucked financially... so they cut the one far away from them.
  5. I already play APB (I've never considered pay, though). I'll probably keep playing that, especially if they actually add the Nyan rocket launchers. It's basically the only game I consider to have superior character customization to that of CoH (although I hate the placeholder character model before peoples' character loads...)- although most of it's locked behind progressing through the grind (they don't have stories...).

I tried Champions Online twice, both times it was completely and totally unenjoyable. I bought Aion years ago, and never played past my free month (what a horrible game! why do other developers come up with a neat feature, and then try to make it totally inaccessible?), except for a short time with several friends on a free private server (that gave about 10x as much XP as on the live servers... it was still a slow grind fest...). I tried STO, but didn't like it. WoW's gameplay is crap, and looks like crap.

I guess I'll give TOR a chance once it's F2P. It has a bit of scifi, and it's not just elves in woods as someone else put so well. But, I don't have high hopes for it. Maybe some other non-generic-fantasy-elves-magic-everquest MMO will come around that lets you customize your character... maybe one day.

Paragon Studios is just a name for part of NCSoft. NCSoft is closing them, so they pretty much don't exist anymore (depending on exactly how immediate 'effective immediately' means). NCSoft, for quite a long time, has been both the publisher and developer of CoH.

I rather doubt a Kickstarter could be done that'd raise enough money to get NCSoft to even notice. It would take many millions of dollars... and, IIRC, NCSoft doesn't actually own CoH's engine, but licensed it from Cryptic as part of the purchase of the game + dev team (would need to check the news from back then to be sure), and if that's the case, they likely couldn't 'sell' it in such a way that'd allow people to publish the source freely, or anything like that.
  7. Since the end days are upon us... how about an actual end of the world event in game?

Whatever community reps / devs are still around, give 'em a day where they get to screw around, throwing whatever they can at us in a huge event (obviously more akin to Shark Week, since I doubt they'll get to write any new code for it). It doesn't have to be anything formal or all that, basically just a final event for the players to be able to interact with Paragon, one last time. If you guys have any Battalion enemies already hidden in the game, throw those at us as well (or anything else you guys have hidden away in those PIGGs!).

And then when the dust settles... we all have a big group hug before we turn off the lights!

(and then Zwill pulls off his Rikti mask, and points and laughs, saying we 'Players: Punked'! ... maybe this part is just wishful thinking...)
  8. I just purchased a Super Pack on the Paragon Market... so at least that's still up... maybe they just meant purchases of points?

  10. Well, that was unexpected. I really doubt anyone at Paragon actually knew this was coming (a couple might have known it was a possibility...). Seems like every channel on Virtue is talking about this as well... and I was excited about rolling a new Dual Pistols character later today (damn my altitus!).
  11. Who in the what now?

(some game's being shut down? )
  12. Isn't this costume available in the CC already? Or is this a costume change power?

(not found one that works yet, either)
  13. I love Quantum Acceleration (+Jump Pack for MAXIMUM SPEED!!!!!!). Plus, it's a great spot for a LotG: +Recharge.
  14. 1.) I called it.

    2.) *Squee!!!*

The NCSoft Master Account doesn't necessarily have the same username/password as your game account (it even recommends you use different ones during account creation). If you can't get it, you should contact support ( -> Ask A Question). I had to in the past, and they were able to get me back in after only a couple days.

Oh, and as someone above mentioned, apparently they CAN be applied on the Paragon Market (I've not tested this myself), so you could do that now while you wait for Support to get back to you.

Since you've already logged in, you could try going directly to the 'Account Management' page.

Edit: Works perfectly fine for me in Safari Not really sure the point of that screen, since you can't even migrate yet!
  18. Got mine!

What you do is go to http://us.ncsoft.com/en/, and hit 'Log In', and login to your NCSoft Master Account. Click on your CoH account on the right hand side (should have the CoH logo and the account name), and on the next page click 'Redeem Code' under 'Actions', and enter the code on the next screen! After that, it'll ask you which account to apply it to (maybe not for everyone), and you're done!

Edit: Also, you do NOT need to be VIP. Even Freems can use the code!

    Anime and CoX

So, we can come to the conclusion that (unending) western comics and (unending) shõnon anime handle power creep in different ways... Western super hero comics simply retcon the power back down (same thing the TV show Heroes did) / hand wave it away because the McGruffin only worked due to the right alignment of the stars (and then they gave a half-***** McGruffin reason), while the animes just runs with it and raises the stakes/scale of the world.

In neither of those is 'power creep' a problem when the stories actually end. I greatly prefer the ones where the entire story line was pretty much already decided before the first episode even aired (those tend to only be one or two seasons, not 20). This is largely why, while I absolutely loved Last Exile, I refuse to watch the sequel series (that was made many years later) due to them "I got better"-ing a very meaningful death.

Also, as for 'collateral damage', that's one thing that's always bothered me about super heroes... they do these things, but their 'no killing' policy always results in more suffering, and is something I always would complain about whenever I'd meet someone obsessed with comic books. Hilariously enough, over the summer a roommate tricked me into watching Superman vs The Elite... which immediately got me started into the rant after the opening fight... little did I know that was what the entire movie was going to revolve around. They definitely handled the subject extremely well (although I was rooting for The Elite ). Not as good as The Avengers (EMH) cartoon, but quite good.

In that sense, I think what Zwill & crew are doing here is a success.

    *For larger values of "occasional"
In the one today, when they were showing off TechKnight, off to the side there was a small explosion, which lead off into Zwill trying to figure off what was going on, eventually realizing that someone was triggering the Shivan Invasion meteor strikes around them... he then mentioned that if we see Jack-In-Irons come up and dance behind him, we'll know it's <somethingsomething> (I already forgot who he said >,<).

There was also when both of the guys behind them (in the room, not on CoH) got up and hurriedly left the room, followed by confusions over why everyone in the office suddenly vanished, wondering if there was a fire alarm going off... turns out it was just some bacon-wrapped things had been brought in!

It was certainly silly, but definitely amusing. If you don't care for them, they're easy enough to skip (if there's any juicy info, it'll quickly be re-posted onto the forums). Zwill does a really good job acting as 'host' on them from the little I've seen.

Maybe I'll try that sometime, but, personally, I hate beta testing games like this, because then I end up not playing on live ever after testing

Shooting the "S" is fine if that's the main thing you're looking for from these things. Perhaps my expectations here are just a notch or two too high for my own good. *shrugs*
I've only seen two (one of which was today's), but I thought it had lots of good info in it. They talked quite a bit about the inspiration/motivation/stylings of the set (including talking about the quiver), mentioned various directions they're taking, gave us a glimpse of some dev h4x, and some other stuff. I wouldn't be shocked if most of the info could be found on the forums, but most of it I hadn't read (and I read the forums much more frequently than most people- although I don't dev-stalk).

As someone else mentioned, it seems like there's always people on Twitch that are just stumbling upon CoH for the first time. I'd imagine most people don't often see the actual people behind a game regularly talking about it and showing things off (especially for one that's not a little hobbyist project!), and Twitch seems to be quite a popular site with lots of heavy gamers, so it's also good marketing (which means more people taking an interest in CoH, which means likely more monies for Paragon).

I'd probably watch them more often if I even knew when they did them, and if I regularly checked where they had the videos. Sure, I could just look up that information myself/bookmark the their page on Twitch... but writing this post saying I don't know is easier
  22. I'm T9. I have access to beta. I'm interested in the TechKnight set.

Today's CoffeeTalk was the first time I'd gotten to see it

And hell, I probably get on beta far more than the vast majority of the playerbase (the vast majority likely never having even installed it), and likely the majority of the T9 VIPs as well.

Plus, at least for me, I've not generated any tokens on beta/test since Freedom launched, so I couldn't even check it out if I wanted.

This. Anyone else remember back when BaBs would be regularly spotted posting on the forums at pretty much all hours of the night? It's a good thing to have the Devs regularly trying to communicate/interact with us as humans (not just via press releases or anything).
