Do you like this game? Want to keep it? Then help us. We're gonna need a whole lot of signatures to get our point across.

Oh, and help to keep this on the front page, so to speak. Gotta get the word out to as many people as we can and keep it there until this nonsense stops.

Could PS get the rights and do a Kickstarter?

Companies love holding onto rights, only because you may never know... but yeah I'm sure this was all decided before the announcement.

Don't know. I've PM'd Posi about it, but chances are it'll take him a long while to reply. I imagine his inbox is probably flooded by now. Assuming it's possible though, and just a question of money, I have no doubt we can get more than enough with a crowdfund.

Paragon Studios is just a name for part of NCSoft. NCSoft is closing them, so they pretty much don't exist anymore (depending on exactly how immediate 'effective immediately' means). NCSoft, for quite a long time, has been both the publisher and developer of CoH.

I rather doubt a Kickstarter could be done that'd raise enough money to get NCSoft to even notice. It would take many millions of dollars... and, IIRC, NCSoft doesn't actually own CoH's engine, but licensed it from Cryptic as part of the purchase of the game + dev team (would need to check the news from back then to be sure), and if that's the case, they likely couldn't 'sell' it in such a way that'd allow people to publish the source freely, or anything like that.

Like I said, I wonder if we can't do something, and this is doing something. I don't know if it'll help, but I'm glad to have signed.

Well, there goes that hope.

I think not. The fact that someone on an internet forum said that it is difficult to get rights from companies is not the same thing as failing to secure those rights.

What we need is somebody to find out and tell us:

* Who owns which rights regarding the game.
* Which rights are necessary to run the game, or to release the code to the community.
* Whether the owners of the rights are willing to sell them at any price.
* If not, whether there are other options.
* If so, what that price is.

Once we have that information we can talk about Kickstarters. It is definitely worth finding this out and getting as far as the Kickstarter, because it's the Kickstarter that will tell us whether the demand is there, not hemming and hawwing on the forums.

If they don't sell CoH and Paragon Studios to another company, then at the very least...

They could at the very least keep the servers running, charging a monthly fee of $5 or less (just enough to cover server costs and a bit of profit) and just let everyone know "no customer server, no patches, no updates".

They would have nothing to lose by doing this and we would at least have our game.

Signed.

I'd really like to see the Kickstarter happen. There has to be at least a few companies interested in the property, since it wasn't in the red, and I don't know why NCSoft wouldn't sell since that's the only route left for them to get any more money out of it.
I will hold out hope this can be done until its been absolutely proven it cannot.

I'm a long time subscriber, and had no plans to end my subscription. I would happily pledge to a Kickstarter project to be able to continue to pay my subscription.

I don't know much about Paragon Studios' situation, but if it is at all possible I urge them to start a kickstarter project.

If we can prove that there's money to be made in continuing City of Heroes that would speak louder than anything else.
