Nekomata is my favorite, though it was my second character so I got it real early on.

And, I dunno if it'd qualify as 'cross dressing' in this day and age, thanks to Mary Tyler Moore and her insistent desire to wear pants on camera. Now, it's socially acceptable for women to wear what were traditionally considered 'male' clothes, whereas the opposite STILL makes you a freak.
People confuse me.

I have a partial answer, but it is long, twisted, involves the softest of science social anthropology and after I explained it, would still leave you feeling pretty crappy.

Sumptuary laws are a dieing breed somebody please think of the Sumptuary Laws.
Ever since the first woman walked onto the assembly line the slow and steady decay twords cross dressing started, gone is the day when a right minded person dare tell a woman to wear a skirt and stockings, no now they prance around flaunting their immorally in slacks and button down shirts, while good men must stand by and remain silent. No longer can we spot a proper woman by her corsets and petty coats. In the light of such immorality how could we as a species ever survive! For our very people it is imperative that we must put such woman back in skirts, and corsets, and stockings and heels, and we must do it fast or else soon the boys may take them up and make them their own.
Yet I fear that it may be too late, tho I so strongly wish that it can't be. We know we can't keep the girls out of the slacks, but maybe we can keep the boy out of the dress, yes we must fight them, we must call it immoral and say we are fighting the good fight! For we all know that nothing more then a few piece of fabric and some eye coal stand between man kind and the abyss.
We must have checks in the street put all people in jail unless they are wearing at least 5 pieces of gender appropriate clothing. Only then can we say we are a moral and good people, only then will we know we are on the right side of right.
Please for the sake of all man kind we must bring back the sumptuary laws, we must give the police, nay not just the police but every citizen, the right to call down the full wrath of the law on those who break them.
You can be a part of the solution, never give up hope. -

I take it you never read the bio on Bronze Strongmen.
The Strongmen of the Carnival of Shadows are capable of amazing feats of strength. The Bronze Strongmen are recruited for their potential and are dominated by the Ring Mistresses. They are then put through a rigorous training regimen to achieve their Herculean physique and are sealed in their helmets.

ppl are getting confused between cross dressing and transgenders. If you have 5 COSTUME slots and 3 are 2 and 2 female thats cross dressing not transgender but if they made it so if you change your gender and all slots are gender changed . that is transgender. there is a difference. i never once said i had prob with it. I said that allowing cross dressing in a game that kids play is a bit concerning.
To thous that are getting upset about lack of tolerance. i could say the same to how they have acted in my believe. Also its not just me but society has a whole shuns cross dressing. like it or not but im not the minority but the majority in society. Case in point why do they have drag on jerry springer and muary show? For are entertainment. they are both laughed at and made fun of. why? cause its not socially acceptable. Just cause you dont share my believe doesnt mean the majority of society dont.
So again i ask for a dev to chim in and clerfy things or change it so that you cant change each costume to be a male female but to change all your slots to male female.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't try to get all exact like then mess it up, because you just did there and it's funny, well least to me.
Trasgender is a more fluid gender identity, it would exactly be people who have on or two slots one gender and one or two slots a different gender. Transsexual is a person who has changed permanently one way or the other.
Of course this ignores the ones doing it in a gender neutral fashion such as girls in power armor. Like the Video game Metroid or Cartoons like Exo Squad.
People using potions to change gender, As in popular cartoons like Johnny Text, Emperor's New School, Fairly Odd Parents, and Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
Then there are those who are playing Transvestites and cross dressers, like popular cartoons such as Mulan and the previously mentioned Bugs Bunny, though really who was exempt? You'd be hard pressed to find a cartoon that lasted a full season that didn't have cross dressing in it.
Yes gender people are mocked, but then anyone who is different is mocked, Lutherans would be pulled out into public squares and asked to explain their religion while people pointed at laughed, Puritans often had rotten vegetables tossed at them, heck while we are on the subject of religions mocked for being different they put one man on a cross for it. Meanwhile in America we tend to get a chuckle out of those Canadian "eh"s, and my Irish cousin was asked to give a school speech so the class could laugh at him. This doesn't make it right to mock them, and it didn't mean the majority had a point it just made them bullies.
Meanwhile as to your "Concern" a kid will never know. If they see a female character change to a male one, they will know it's a game, it will be no more odd then a mermaid growing legs, or Samus taking off her power armor at the end of Metroid, or Mulan telling the Emperor he was a she or the hilarity that ensues when tea kettles and dish pans fly in Ranma, they just accept it as part of the fantasy before them.
I watched a woman drag her kid out of a Ranma 1/2 showing, then proceed to deflower her kids mind by trying to explain to him why what he saw was wrong. Until that moment he didn't know anything was wrong, there was no damage because the child couldn't perceive any, it was only during the process of trying to explain it that it all went horribly south.
This whole issue is like AC/DC's Big Balls , the song is about ballroom dancing unless you insist it's about something else. -
<QR>
My very first hero in this game, was/is a transsexual who gained their powers as a side effect of the process to change their sex. So from day one there have been trans characters in City of Heroes, and the three characters who came after her where all from the same program. Of course these characters will not make use of the gender change feature.
Even with that fact, I imagine most of my use out of the system will be power armor.
Of course if the outcry gets too large about trans characters I may have to run out and create the Gender Offender. -

Notice what was being unsaid. Positron is not in charge of overall game design.
[/ QUOTE ]
How the heck can you argue what is unsaid? They didn't say they don't plan to burn their logo on the moon, so can we now say they are currently building a laser to do that?
[ QUOTE ]
Just like the timed in story arcs which were not supposed to happen the person in charge didn't hear about the coding of timed into the story arcs. Therby it was not intended.
[/ QUOTE ]
Time missions happen all the time in story arcs. It was the timed missions that happen in the middle of multistage missions that are up for contention. Also there should be no multi-person mission in these as well. I am going to infer what was said by Positron that they are not in these missions either.
[ QUOTE ]
As for spicing things up that can be taken so many ways. Even [censored] up code can be called spicing things up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay so you wish to imply that they will "Spice up the game" by introducing coding bugs? I hope you never get into a industry where you make products for the masses. I imagine you would spice up SUVs more by putting break away bolts on the tires. One never deliberately introduces an "Error" to spice things up. Now then if you wish to say that they are trying to cover up their mistake by saying they wanted to "Spice things up" this is a different story. But I am going to infer that the development team is smarter then that.
[ QUOTE ]
I always figured it was unintentional and the group missions would be removed from story arcs. If you didn't have your head about your *** you would have realized the same.
[/ QUOTE ]
Figuring that something was unintentional and telling others that it has been stated numerous times that it was unintentional are two very different things. Also it is quite possible if people hadn't come up and pointed out that this was both happening and not desirable there would be no reason to figure that they would be removed. I had no reason to figure they where going to be removed and your insurance that it was a coding error when it very clearly was not, where not going to sway me.
This really isn't an issue of where my head is. This is an issue that until this message came down the pipe that this was being changed we had no reason to figure (Heck lets just say it assume) that this would be changed.
There was no reason to assume that this was a mistake and that this was going to be changed, yet based on your assumption, you went around telling people not to worry this was a coding error. Then after it was pointed out that this was not a coding error by the very people who do the coding you still persisted in you assumption that it was a coding error.
The point stands. The developers thought it looked like a good idea, the players felt it wasn't, they changed it. I am pleased. This fills me with no desire to pretend it was a coding error or to assume if we hadn't voiced our opinion it would not have been changed.
Front loaded missions where removed because people have voiced their distaste for them. Does this now make Front-Loaded missions a codnig error? -
[ QUOTE ]
That was Positron [censored] and he said it wasn't their intention to gate content.
Notice how much he left unsaid. Therby this was something not planned out throughly. Therby they didn't test it properly or code it properly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay so I made a mistake in the name. Doesn't change the fact of what was said.
It was not coding. It was intent. Trying to pretend it isn't intent is stupid. They wanted to "Spice up the story arcs" they didn't "Realize it would have the effect of gating content". There was no coding error. Stop trying to make it sound like their was. A coding error is miss-writing the code, an error of intent is when you intend for one thing to happen and another happens.
Honestly I challenge you to show me one post where it said "We never intended fort there to be simultaneous missions in story arcs." You can't there isn't one. Yet there is a post that says very clearly, "We wanted to spice things up in the middle of your story arc."
Honestly I am not sure if you are being deliberately daft, or you are suffering from tunnel vision.
It is very clear. They meant to put multi-person missions in story arcs. It had a negative unforeseen complication. They admitted that this complication was negative to game play, they removed it.
It was not a coding error. It was not a programming error. It was not a accident. It was a mistake in execution.
Honestly where did you even get the idea that it was a coding error? And what is to be gained by the persistent belief that it was? Especially given there is no supporting evidence to the concept. -
--general add to thread--
Regarding Solo play.
As an MMO soloer I've become very used to being on the low end of the Exp/hour scale. I don't want to be pushed out of the scale. I don't every have a problem with being locked into groups of 3, -1,0,+1 mobs as long as there are groups of said mobs to fight. Honestly in some zones this is not the case. It's even worse when these group of 2-4 are 2 lts and 2 bosses. This is my stand on Solo vs Group, vs the perceived sweet spot. (Also I would like to be able to solo my missions, but generally they are scaled in groups of 3 -1,0,+1, so I imagine this should not be overly effected. I will gladly pull help for AVs, Monsters, or purple bosses, though timed missions often make this impossible.)
Regarding crowd control in mobs.
I also don't think there are good tools for many builds to face the degree of root/hold/stun powers encountered later in the game, even in groups of 1-3. I've had a single equal level Pariah kill me because he alpha striked me with a stun then hit me with a sword for my full health. (This was a controller) With my blasters I've seen Ritki do it even worse. The status effects are too great after a certain point and it is worse when they shift from the bosses to the lts, then to the minnons. I think disciplines need to be reactive and offer greater protection to stuns, especially stuns from multiple sources given it is not 1 stunning, mezzing, rooting, sleeping, holding mob per average group of three but 2 to 3. I think CC is the one place where this game stacks too much against the player no matter what we bring to the table. Player CC characters are very deliberately limited in the amount of damage they bring to the table, and I've seen more then enough "Justification" for this to be quite sick of it but CC enemies in the game still get to do a great deal of damage on top of being able to lock the typical hero down. Also not all defender sets have CC protection, most Defense sets are forced to chose between status resist or damage resist (but the mobs don't make a choice of inducing status or doing damage), the pool powers only have low protection from CC, but even then it almost becomes necessary to take even that small protection due to the proliferation of high damage, high CCing mobs.
Of course both of these statements are opinions. They are not fact except from my point of view playing the game.
I know there are people who like challenge, they get a kick out of living on the edge every second knowing that the next shot from the mob means they are dead. Though I would infer that these people are not the majority If they where people wouldn't have to be encourage to fight Crannies, Malta or DE. -

LOL I'm sure it'll come as a great shock to Poz that he's a female.
[/ QUOTE ]
See this is the reason I shouldn't listen to anything on the boards. There was a multi-page thread just two days ago claiming Poz was female, and Positron even commented in it and never bothered to correct anyone.
Oh well live and learn. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well if he means the trial zones as a whole, and not just the trials themselves, then I'm confused again. (That seems to be happening a lot this evening). I was flying around TV, and the spawns I saw looked no different in size than Perez or Boomtown. Was I just looking in the worng spots? (I didn't scour the place or anything, just took a quick buzz around).
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually in Tera Volta on live I see groups of 10 freaks fighting 10 Sky Raiders, that is a group of 20 mobs. It's also not uncommon to see groups of 15 Sky Raider Lts. In Boomtown the largest group I've seen is 12. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well what is the solution then everyone!!!!??
Dont give an answer that just solves your little problem. Everything that affect you will affect others.
More xp and easier XP for all the causal and soloers will also mean it will be a dream come true for the power gamers!!!!
That means Cryptic will have to keep churning out content for the high levels. Super fast leveling wont give the Dev's time to make new stuff for everyone, unless everyone is ready to pay double the monthly cost so Cryptic can have a bigger staff to produce new Issues every 6 weeks!!
So someone think of a solution that can allow casuals and sloes to level fast and at the same time keep the power gamers who already level extremely fast from going any faster.
Come on, somebody can come up with a rational solution!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
For making the game sweet spot -1,0,+1 I like this idea and here are the solutions I see to it.
I think giving us enough groups of 1-3s to attack through our career, in the city zones, coupled with the triage tents in some of the out of the way hazard zones. Would be good solutions. Of course the problem many will see with this is it does lower the EXP/second equation, but keeps things opened.
As for leveling speed.
The increase in mission XP is also a good solution. But this will not appease the power levelers.
As for stun issues.
I'd like to see reactive cures for stun, which would allow us to be "prepared" to fight stunning mobs without a group or playing an AT that gets high stun resistance. I'd think another good fix would be a magnitude to level ratio on stuns, thus fighting a -3 mob would give us a level 3 magnitude. (Though this may be asking for too much.) -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps if you learned the difference between a trial zone and a hazard zone you could chime in
Faultline is a hazard zone. Just like Perez and Boomtown and Dark Astoria and the Sewer Network and the Abandoned Sewer Network and the Rikti Crash Site.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pulling out the map that came with the game I have the following Tiral zones. 8 Overbrook, Aka Faultline. 12 Tera Volta, 16 Woodvale. These are marked as trial zones. Just becaues they do not have a current trial in them Does not change what they are. -
[ QUOTE ]
But you need to eat 1 or more of them before every fight in order to be able to do anything (againt mobs like carnies its 2-3+).
[/ QUOTE ]
But the goal is to nudge the soloer to groups -1,0,+1 and groups of 3. This should make it so 1 should be enough to tackle the fight.
I would agree with the idea of them being reactive. Though I thought the description says they are, which means we are looking at a bug? -
First thanks for replaying to us. (Ack sounds like I am going to scream at you or something. I just want you to know that you here is very appreceated.) So now my post.
[ QUOTE ]
The goal (eventually) is to make the +1,0,-1 level spread as fun at 30th level as it was at 10th level.
[/ QUOTE ]
And this is a great goal, I want to see this happen. But right now the current trend is in introducing status effects. At level 10 there where very few mobs with status effects, the occasional Edilon or Lost Blaster. By 40 it seems the only challenge is chain stunning or holding mobs and well that is not what many people consider to be a fun challenge. -
[ QUOTE ]
Some people may think I'm just kissing up, but I do appreciate the devs, the gms, the board moderators, and everyone else working on CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
I appreciate much of what the Devs do. They keep us more informed then any other MMO I've played. Of course maybe that is why I'm so vocal I know they are listening. I do try to remember my manners when I discuss things but I am known to be a passionate person in my views and beliefs. -
[ QUOTE ]
In City of Heroes, it's the sheer size of the spawn that counts...If you've got a bigger group, then go find a bigger spawn. Simple as that. But if a group of 4 heroes defeats 3 minions (which are designed for only a single hero), then they aren't getting much XP. Those 4 heroes should take their act to a Hazard zone, where the spawn sizes are appropriate for their team.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is one of the things I love about the early game of CoH, unfortunately late game, where large groups of mobs are stacking status effects or worse holds and stuns, it is not profitable attack larger groups. So these groups of 4-8 heroes are stuck fighting groups of 2-3, just like the solo scrapper or blaster.
In this equation the only way to beat the curve is hunt higher level mobs, but right now there is a hard cap on the exp. gained from these higher mobs. -
If you are talking about this line.

we just wanted to spice things up for you in the middle of your Arc.
