Quote:Interesting.I hate smileys. they're the first thing I AdBlock upon going to a new forum.
And I wouldn't mind limits on graphical smileys.... if the forum systems didn't use the standard *text* smileys as the codes for the graphic ones.
This forum, for example.... colon+right parenthesis is auto-replaced with
I find emoticons to be quite useful for making sure people can tell what tone you're typing in..... helps keep misunderstandings to a minimum. At least in theory. -
Thanks, everyone, that makes things a bit more clear.

Didn't want to go off-topic in the Base Pics thread, and I didn't see anything among the stickies (might be blind, tho), so....
...when you say "desks", what item are you referring to? One of the Counters? Because I can only imagine all the items actually labeled "desk" would leave you with a forest of table legs sticking down into the lower room.
Yeah, I'm a bit confused on this topic. -

The higher end stuff (good purples and procs) were at those prices before double XP weekend.
I got 150-200mil each for a Miracle proc and a Hecatomb recipe in the last month. 80-100 mil each for three respec recipes.
All those people leveling in AE (i.e, no random drops, just tickets) are drying up the supplies of rare items. Without reducing demand. High demand + lower supply = crazy prices. -
Quote:And it still is.... for the people who do it the long way. Or for the people who think it is. Yeah, you can't brag about it to a crowd ("big deal, I got five 50s in the same time"), but you can still have that personal feeling of achievement.Which brings me back to the OP... it used to be an accomplishment. It used to feel good to reach 50, something to be proud of.

Picked up enough prestige over the weekend to do a bit of upgrading on my teleport room, so I took the opportunity to make some pics.
I've only started getting going on decoration, and it's a single player base, so it's not quite as fancy as some of the others in the thread.
Overview
(Recently expanded from 8x8 to 12x12. Control, teleporter, energy, and med rooms, plus three workshops for the three levels of salvage. I'm a bit of a packrat.)
Control center
(I've got the computer in place, but I'm still deciding what the rest of the room will be...)
Powerplant
(Converting power from a captured energy crystal....)
And the teleporter room was inspired by the various rooms in the Stargate thread....

Couple questions:
- is there a better way to get rid of the room baseboards, other than placing decorative items at every segment?
- any way to get around the underside of objects being see-through? (The big blue file cabinets on my teleport control center, for example - the upper edge of the "window" is transparent.)
Thanks! -

Quote:On topic, my first 50 took three months and 500 hours to hit.....
Side q: how does one find out how long you've been playing a character? (I know in WoW, it's /played....)
-----
I just got my first 50 a couple weeks ago, after a bit less than two full months of pretty focussed playing. Regular story arcs and radio missions for ~95% of it.
Didn't step in AE this past weekend, either. Did radio missions and Frostfire/Midnighters to get a few alts into the mid-high teens.
(And, yeah... it was kind of depressing to think that I could play a couple hours to get an alt to 16, or I could have just jumped in one of those mega farms and had them at Stamina in one or two missions. /sigh AE is cool from a "make up custom stories" standpoint, but the PL potential seems tuned a bit high.)

Three or four alts from ~4 to ~16.
The Midnight Club arc in Steel Canyon is starting to feel a bit repetitive. -

Quote:I did it with three of the 100,000 2x2 workshops... one for each level of salvage. (Then five racks in each room: one for rare salvage, two tech, two arcane. Common in one of each pair, uncommon in the other.)First part; about 255,000 for the racks alone and then about 460,000 for two workshops capable of holding them....
A bit over-organized, but.... -
Any way to make threads with new posts in them glaringly obvious, like it was on the previous forum?
The FAQ pointed out that New Posts button..... but that seems to give a listing of new posts for every single subforum. Not too useful when you're just looking for new posts in, say, Player Questions.
Whee. -
If you have all your characters in a supergroup, and have a base for that supergroup, you can install an Enhancement Table in that base. Your characters will be able to store enhancements in it.

there are some trends (skipping vital powers, bios that are painful to read, that sort of thing)
[/ QUOTE ]
I've got no bios on my characters.
(I'm a graphic arts hobbyist - hopefully my costumes are interesting.... but I despise writing. /sigh)
I did just get my first 50, though! (six-seven weeks of zone story arcs. Now to go back in Oro and catch some of the ones I missed. But I did have to log right out and make my first EAT.... with no vet badges. Whee!)

That said..... yeah, some aspects of the AE seem to be less than positive. And I have a hard time imagining why someone would buy a game, and then not be curious about all the different things to do. But, then, I was always the one who annoyed my friends by trying, first thing, to read the manual on any new game I got; rather than just running it right off. -

If it's a strait up solo base, you don't need more than one TP pad, because you can just swap out the beacons as you need them.
[/ QUOTE ]
I went with the 2x2 double teleporter room in my solo base. One pad is set to Atlas & Talos (get to the center of the world; get to the green line + wentworths + origin shops), and the other one is for switching around for whatever zones I'm doing arcs in.
-------
And, yeah.... that jump from Combo Unit to Energy Room/Control Room/Mainframe/Generator is huge. I got lucky with a few recipe drops, and got in on the tail end of Fulmens' prestige-matching offer, so I've converted a total of 300mil Influence into prestige. Between that, and getting my first character to 50 (via normal story arcs), I've had a decent chunk of points to spend on my base. Keep questing in SG mode. The points really do build up.
(Also - once you *do* cross that boundary and install the Generator and Mainframe? You'll be pretty set for energy and control for a good while.)
Good luck -
Yeah, some of the "Mac" games these days (especially EA releases) are actually the PC code wrapped in a Cider translation layer. So, they only run on Intel-processor Macs.

Yeah, my 5-week-old, lv48 Regen Scrapper is somewhere around 1.8m damage taken, last I saw.
