  1. Well, from my point of view, I totally agree with this. At the end of the day, I've turned up for every single match and in at least one of them, it was the use of subs that cost me the match. Not to forget wasting up to an hour of my play time waiting around in the arena for no shows.

At the end of the day, I don't see how people can expect to keep their life if someone else is fighting and winning their match for them. If that was the case, I'd have got someone who's actually good at PvP to sub for me in all my matches until they got me to the final

We all knew when the matches were being held and even though there has been some uncertainty over previous weeks, anyone who hadn't seen anything informing them otherwise only had to turn up at the arena on Thursday night and check in so even if things did change, at least you could say you were there on the night the matches were supposed to happen so can't be penalised.

While i'm sure many people will disagree with me, I for one think players who have actuaslly played in and won the same amount of matches as me having more lives than me is wrong, just because they've had an extra win where a sub played for them when they couldn't make it.

(Seperate note to X-treme. Not sure if you asked someone else to actually log in and play as your character but Xanthus called the names of those who had/hadn't checked in and gave a time limit for the missing players to check in with him. Guessing whoever was meant to be playing your character didn't do that.)

    Who's top gun?

No way! I'm trying to lvl a new PvP alt on CoH but can't face the grind over there.

I find CoV so much more fun to play than CoH. Players like Max show you can make the move across games and still make excellent PvP builds. While I don't think Pentad on CoV will ever equal CoH in it's current state, I think certain AT's on there like Corruptors and Stalkers can be VERY powerful in PvP.

I also think you can level a hell of a lot quicker on CoV. Like Stalk, I think it's just a case of not enough of the top PvP'ers wanting to take the time to work on PvP on CoV like they had to on CoH.

Everytime I go on CoH, I'm just looking for an excuse to return to CoV
  3. He he he, mine's fortunate enough to have a whole SG as his arch nemsis

Kinslayer was my original CoH toon, a fire/dev blaster who was abanodned after just a few months(though I kept the name held with a placeholder). When I saw fire/thermal corruptors and CoV, there was only ever one choice for my first villain

In the early days of Paragon City’s super hero boom, one of the pioneers of super powered justice rose like a raging inferno. From the slums of Kings Row to the up market residences of Founders Falls, the albino fireball Kinslayer became a name to be feared.

Cool and intense, it was the albino who drew together some of today’s greatest heroes in the form of Thief Taker, 19, Rock Solid Dude and Dinomite to form the hero academy, New Blood Foundation and the supergroup that would go on to be known as the New Blood Rebellion.

As these intrepid warriors tore a swathe through all who preyed on the weak, the albino seemed to become more and more disillusioned. His control of his powers was soon outstripped by his fellow heroes and he was forced to rely more and more on them to carry him in battles against their many foes. As bitterness and jealousy slowly wormed it’s way into his soul, Kinslayer’s previously cool and calm detachment from his emotions was gradually replaced by ice cold ruthlessness when dispatching his enemies.

As his friends grew increasingly concerned, they journeyed to the Council stronghold of Striga and it is here that disaster struck. Investigating possible Kheldian connections within the Council for the hero known as Moonfire, the heroes where overwhelmed by the vampires and wolves. Forced to retreat, Kinslayer’s bitterness and jealousy came to the fore and as his friends tried to escape, the albino threw himself recklessly into the oncoming mass of enemies, desperate to overcome his recent weaknesses.

Hurling fire all around him in a rage, his friends tried to rescue him but were unable to do so. As a distraught Thief Taker was forcibly dragged from the battle scene by his team mates, the last that was seen of the albino was his battered torso being shredded by the claws of one of the Council’s dreaded war wolves.

As the New Blood’s mourned the demise of their leader, some dealt with it in different ways. Dinomite and Rock Solid Dude buried their grief and continued to fight injustice wherever it was encountered, building the New Bloods in to one on of Paragon City’s greatest forces for good. 19, rocked by the death, took a sabbatical to allow him to deal with his emotions and has since returned to the fold, stronger than ever.

Thief Taker, the original founder of the New Bloods along with Kinslayer, took the death very badly and faded from public sight, a broken man.

    One Year Later

Unknown to the New Bloods, the story does not end there. In awe of the destructive forces unleashed by the albino avenger, Archon Burkholder ordered the corpse passed over to the Council scientists with express instructions to unlock his powers. Patching up the battered corpse, the undead vampires used their knowledge of life beyond death to call Kinslayer back from death and restored him to a cursed existence of living death.

However, the vampires had miscalculated and as a semblance of existence returned to him, Kinslayer revived in a rage. His powers seemingly stronger than ever, the albino scoured the lab in a consuming inferno and escaped the volcano stronghold. Stowing away on a smuggler's ferry, Kinslayer went into a near catatonic state, his body shivering with uncontrollable cold. As the smugglers approached the Rogue Isles, a lone crewman discovered their uninvited guest. Summoning powers unknown to him and clearly a side effect of his return from death, Kinslayer used his innate control of heat to draw every last drop of warmth from his victim, infusing himself with strength.

Fleeing the craft, Kinslayer found himself on the shores of Mercy Isle and secreted himself away among the wretched inhabitants there. Stretching his new-found abilities to the fullest, he found that he needed to draw life and heat from living beings to maintain his existence and fuel his own powers of fiery destruction, the ecstasy he experienced when doing this was beyond anything he had known. Intoxicated by the taste of power and revenge, Kinslayer’s future was clear… He would take life as he required it and use his powers for one thing and one thing only… The destruction of the New Bloods!

    Personality
The albino is a tragic tale of how jealousy and bitterness can poison even the most noble of people. While much of what has happened to him may be a direct result of the council’s experiment, there is no denying that Kinslayer was already heading in the wrong direction. Kinslayer is as cruel and cold as it gets with no respect for anyone, completely emotionless and happy to betray whoever it takes for him to get what he wants. While his abilities allow him to greatly aid his allies in combat, he has no qualms about turning those powers on any who disobey him and his overriding concern is to destroy the New Blood Rebellion on his way to ruling the Rogue Isles and beyond. He sees all around him as little more than cattle for him to feed on in order to maintain his won existence.
  4. Yeah, more information on the base % for recovering items is a must. However, even with that info, I daresay the same 95% cap will be apllied as seems standard in most things CoH, meaning 1 in 20 of everything destroyed, stays destroyed.

TBH, I would rather see items have a seperate 'repair' cost, say 5% of the total item value.
  5. Kinslayer - Fire/Thermal/Mu Corruptor
  6. As do I. would actually prefer to join a team than try to run one again.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
My comiserations Bro. That must sting a hell of a lot and I know that if that had happened with my first 50 I would be spitting mad. I would also like to say a big thankyou to Kinslayer for bringing an obscure comic book hero into the public forum and no doubt helping my brother lose the name of the toon I have had the honour of teaming with over the last year and a half. If I ever get to meet you in person I would love to thank you further.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I posted a joking message and a link in good natured fun(which the OP reacted to very badly). Yes, it was probably a little short sighted of me realising that someone on her would probably pick up on it and peition it(if it wasn't the mod's who picked up his flame reply)

I'm not the guilty party as anyone could have found it and posted it and anyone could have petitioned him.

Maybe if he hadn't flamed and insulted me and someone reported the post it wouldn't have come to the Dev's attention(again this was not me and I'm happy to give my permission for Bridger to publicly confirm this by looking at the log and waive my privacy).

As for you threatening me on a public forum, I suggest you go read the forum guidelines as I will NOT put up with threats.

Actually surprised to see you threaten me as we've teamed up quite a bit in the past when I used to play D-Zol so hearing that is actually quite sad

At the end of the day, we know the rules regarding copyright and I daresay I would be annoyed if I unwittingly had a character that was copyrighted. I would NOT threaten anyone as a result though and would rather have to change my name than see the makers get in more trouble with lawsuits

    E.V.I.L. Returns

I still can't beleive you beat me thanks to that bloody exemped down SF. When we teamed earlier in the night before I done the off for that SF, I was about half a bar ahead of you.

Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that the two VG members who REALLY wanted to do the SF and begged for/requested it and moved the SF twice to accomodate them didn't bloody show up leaving me to do it with three of us who had done it before and two pick up members with only one VG member doing it who actually needed the badge

Once I get 50 tonight, I'll DEFINITELY get Exofrost to 50 before you get Gutts there

Hearing over coalition chat how Bludd was getting another HO and you beat me to 50 did make me regret doing the SF
  9. Not at all.

I seriously doubt my VG will ever take part in IOP raids because of the potential to have months of prestige earning wiped out from one raid.

It took us 2 months to get the prestige needed for a turbine generator and even if there's only a 5% chance it can get trashed and even though objects are now a LOT more durable in I7, I'm not going to risk that for a 1% buff for just 30 days.

So, even though the requiremtns have been scaled up to the same as the IOP raid requiremetns, instant raids are still the only sort of raiding my VG will take part in.

TBH, my VG will probably do the IOP TF just because it's new content but I think we'll all be subbing into our alt VG for it where it doesn't matter as much if it get's trashed from a following hostile raid as everything in there is 'bare minimum'
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Huh, news to me.. so now instant raids require same requirements as IoP raids?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yup, and now that I think about it a bit more, I think I made a mistake and it wasn't I7 that bought it in but was the patch that went in before I7, setting base raid levels to 50 instead of 40(and breaking raids in the process )

Not sure about the raid TP and if that was made a requirement for instant raids in the same patch.
  11. There also seem to be an IOP base missing. These were added as an instant raid requirement in I7
  12. Well, I know EVIL, Violators, Bloodline and Horde are all still raid ready and taking part in raids.
  13. Kinslayer_

    Who's top gun?

You mean like mine where I mention a couple of brutes and, grudgingly, a stalker
  14. Had a check last night and pretty sure it was 20mill. One thing that did concern me though was that I remember seeing an 'advanced' mainframe a while bac in place of the normal one but can't find it anymore.
  15. I've just added enough power to my base to keep it going for, i'm hoping, the next 6 months or so. Next step is sorting out the amount of control we have available.

I've basically got the Supercomputer in at the moment along with the SG Computer and that's about it. Looking at the workbench, it seems the next upgrade available is the Autonomous Expert but at 20mill, it's a little out of my price range at the moment.

Can anyone detail what my other options are? I know I can put terminals on but they seem so feeble it's just not worth it.

While we're at it, can someone explain how defence placement works? I have a choke point and have defences in there but i've noticed a few other bases that have defences in the control/power rooms etc. I'm guessing you have to have the 'secure' versions of the rooms to put defences in them?
  16. OK, this is still in draft form before I actually finalise it but I've taken Xanth's fixed night into account by putting in a compromise between the two. People can arrange matches BEFORE fight night but any players who's team have not fought have to turn up on the night to avoid being penalised.

The only other issue is the signup size. I either have 8 per class which gives us 24 people or 16 which takes us to 48. One seems a little too large, the other way too small.

I've also cut the number of lives from 3 to 2.

Here's the initial draft and any comments on the classes would be welcomed(kheldians, stalkers and corruptors were the pains)

    [ QUOTE ]
OK, I've now come up with what I hope is going to prove to be a workable tournament format in the fashion of 3vP and clean up two of the areas that caused problems, No shows and all squishy teams coming up against all melee ones

    Team Size

Each match will consist of two teams of 3, randomly drawn each round, as in 3vP.

    How Are You Eliminated

Same as 3vP again, you have lives and a no show or a team loss costs you a life. However, you'll only have two lives in this. This is mainly to speed it up a bit and if we find it's unworkable, i'll know to put it back to three for the next one.

    Matches

10 minute matches capped at lvl 40 and minimum lvl for entry is 38. I understand some people do not want to fight unless it's at lvl 50 but there are certain epics that really unbalance PvP IMO so I've decided to stick with the 40 cap, even though many villains are now level 50.

    Where Are Matches Fought
This will be Union only. I'm happy for someone else to run a Defiant version alongside it if they wish but I can see me running one being enough of a headache as it is and do not want to use the test server as it put's some of the more casual players off.

    When Are Matches Fought

I will publish the fixtures every Wednesday evening. Each team can arrange to do their match whenever is convenient for all of them. However, I will be at the arena every Monday night at 20.00 while the competition is on and this is when any remaining matches MUST be fought. If your team has not been able to arrange the match, just make sure that YOU turn up at this time so you're not penalised for having a slack team. Subs will then be arranged for those who did not show.

So, it's just 3vP Again Then?

Kind of. Xanthus and Cap's 3vP was one of the best PvP events I've seen arranged and it'd be foolish not to follow what has been such a successful model, but....

    Seeding!

That's right, there will be a seeding/class system in place. One of the biggest problems with 3vP was when you had squishy teams against completely non squishy teams. They either ended as a boring stalemate or complete whitewashes so I've tried to come up with a way around it. Each team will be made up of equal numbers of the same class so it will be one of each class in each team. Here are the classes.

Class A: Brutes, Stalkers, Tanks, Scrappers
Class B: MM's, Blasters, Corruptors, Warshades, Peacebringers
    Class C: Defenders, Controllers, Dominators

I'v basically gone for class A as melee, Class B as other damage dealers and class C as support. I know there are some holes with Corruptors being a mix of support and damage and Kheldians being almost impossible to clarify but I drew some random teams using made up toons(not very made up though, I knicked them from the 3vP Union sign up ). After about 50 seperate draws using these rules the teams all came out reasonably balanced.

    Signup

This is where it becomes a bit of a pain. I need a total sign up of 24 players. However, there can only be 8 of each class. If we do not get the 8 for each class, it can't happen.

I know this is a VERY small roster but I just want to run one first and see how it goes before expanding each class to 16 for a future event

    Subs

Subs can ONLY be used for matches on the Monday night deadline session, all other matches are expected to take place with the specified line up. Subs have to be from the same class as the person they are subbing

    The small print
    1. In all cases, all communication with organisers must be via the Private Message system on these boards or global tells.
    2. In the event of a dispute between teams, both team leaders should attempt to resolve the situation amicably and politely. If this is not possible, both team leaders should send details to an admin for adjudication.
    3. The organisers may change or modify the rules at any time. Such changes will be announced on all the boards.
    4. In all cases, the decisions of the organisers will be final.

    Matches
    5. Matches will be played as Ranked Custom Team events in the Arena at the Cruiserweight (38-40) weight class.
    6. All members of both teams must be above the lower level limit for the appropriate Division. Higher level characters will be exemplared automatically.
    7. Observer mode must be enabled in all matches. The tournament is a sporting event, and people should be free to watch it if they wish.
    8. Matches not fought by the 20.00 deadline on Monday will result in a loss of life for all match competitors not at the arena

    Technical problems during a match
    9. If a player suffers a technical problem during a match, such as a crash or a disconnect, the rest of their team must continue and the match will still be valid, unless the opposing team leader agrees, in advance of the match, to restart the match if this occurs. Please note that team leaders could agree, for example, to restart if someone crashes on entering the Arena, but not if a crash occurs after a match has got underway. (I recommend using that agreement, but it's up to the two teams).
    10. If a player suffers a crash or disconnect during a match, they are allowed to re-enter the match if they can log back on in time. To do so, the player should find the match in the Arena listing, and enter it as an observer. They will return to the match and their score will be retained. Please note that their timer will be incorrect (it gets reset), but the match will end at the proper time.

    Conduct
    11. At all times, the standard City of Heroes User Agreement and Rules of Conduct will apply.
    12. The use of voice comms or any other communication with a team in a match is strictly prohibited. A team may use voice comms to communicate with each other, but not with anyone not on the team and taking part in the match.
    13. Players or teams found to be exploiting bugs or other technical problems during any matches will be disqualified from the league. At the discretion of the organisers, their entire team or teams may also be disqualified.
    14. Players or teams found to be cheating during any matches will be disqualified from the competition. At the discretion of the organisers, their entire team may also be disqualified.
15.If a team leader suspects members of another team to be cheating in any way, they should notify the organisers with all details. The organisers will then investigate the matter

    [/ QUOTE ]
  17. OK, been having a think about this and can confirm that I will be going ahead with it once 3vP is done and dusted and there's been a suitable 'rest' period.

A couple more areas to tighten up on are that I will be limiting numbers as too many casual players seem to be losing interest in 3vP so want to keep it short. If people miss out on signup, it will be a shame but if it's short enough, can run them regularly.

Will also allow some flexibility on when fights are. Will probably say results must be in Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, results and fixtures up Thursday evening. Any results not submitted will count as a loss for ALL involved. this is going to be the worse as it penalises players for unreliable team mates they have no control over.

Any suggestions around this, let me know? (wondering if we can say tuesday night at 20.00 will be cutoff, those who've not fought turn up then and subs will be provided for team members who do show).

I'm going to wokr on draft rules this weekend and send them out to a few people to comments on(Cap, Xanthus and other PvP event organisers) and will then post the finalised rules on here.

Once again, please provide any feedback on this here so I can spot any holes ASAP.

The other bad news is that I will run it on Union only. That said, if someone did want to run one at the same time on Defiant, they're welcome.
  18. Xanth, nice to see the teams and how many lives everyone has but you've forgot to say which teams are actually fighting which

    (unless they're in order so 1 v 2, 3 v 4 etc)

Also, will subs be supplied or do we have to find them for those matches with just two in?
  19. OK, I've now finalised the team as follows

    Me, as D-Zol
    Golden Golem
    Sara Aegis
    Rooks
    Jessica Raven
    Emberwilde

    Idris
    Dutch Barbarian

Two scrappers and 6 tanks gives us a good balance and Dutch's group fly was very useful last time. Also gone with a mix of people who were in last taunt team(Dutch, Golem and Aegis) and new members.

If we get any no shows, I'll pick replacements on the night.
  20. OK, I've downloaded COH Tweak but can't find this Khainestar guys ID on the forum.

Can find some posts he made on teh old boards by goolging him but it won't let me access the links as the board was wiped.

Anyone got a link to it?

I've found Sunday is the day when the majority of people are avaliable. Why do you think I run Hamidon raids on sundays?

    Agree with Xanthus there.

there have been several surveys mad by people monitoring activity on both servers and they always show Sunday and Monday evenings as the two busiest nights
  22. Well, that was quick but it's all gone now
  23. I've got a shed load of arcane salvage I'm willing to swap for tech salvage. A full list is below so if there's anything you want, let me know and we'll sort a trade out.

I'm only interested in trading refined components as individual salvage takes too long.

    My global handle is @kinslayer

    7 Arcane Essence
    70 Mystic Foci
    92 Mystic Element
    7 Arcane Glyph
    2 Magical Artefact
    1 Magical Ward
  24. OK, just downloaded this to make a game demo and managed to get it recording.

Main problem I have now is all the UI showing up. Is there any way to remove this?
