  1. Okay.

This is what happened. Ran that SF villainside tonight. Had 2 Corr, a SoA, a pair of dominators, a brute and a robot mastermind.

We slaughtered the ambushes. LOL well, the second time around. THen, when we finally got back to Jack, err. States... er REICHSMAN, (it's hard to keep all that ego fodder straight) we were ready.

    I thought.

I wasted three hours of my life on this ridiculous broken crap.

We whittled his HP down with pretty impressive speed. All the temp powers were used next to him. We got him to fify percent. He became invincible. I mean Phased Invincible. Now, of course the forum nazi psychos are once again going to roll out with "how little I know about this game", but every time we got him to fifty percent health, he became invincible until it was at 80 or so. Every time. Didn't matter what we did.

So, my question is, since he becomes invincible at fifty percent health until his health recovers to eighty percent regardless of what the players do, how is he defeatable. DPS wasn't the probelm, he's immune to holds, stuns, pretty much the entire MIND sets, and cannot be taunted, we tried and experimented with that. So... nothing I'm reading in this thread so far bears even a passing resemblance to this SF as we experienced it.

I must admit I have never done it before, and we had two memebers of our team that professed to have done it three days ago. Both were shocked at what was going on.

Did something get "balanced to prevent and exploit" or something, or were they just full of ****, or has this not happened before. Nothing we tried, nothing in the mission clues, nothing we did had any affect on him when he hit fifty percent or gave us further instruction on what to do when that happened.

There was a glowing terminal beind a doorway with lasers in front of it. Two of us hit demonic aura and went in there hoping it was something our team leaders had neglected to mention or was one of those "hidden but vital" obejctives...but it was just instant death to enter the rooom.

So. What did we do wrong. Something must have been forgotten somewhere. Anyone have this problem before?

I mean if this is the case I will call it quits, I am getting increasingly tired of blueside getting all the shiny stuff and we get overlooked. If blueside APP's get 1 whole new set for each mastery and a 5th power then thats just a plain insult. I doubt we are getting a new patron...I highly doubt we are getting anything but an extra power for the already mentioned AT.
    Sad...very sad...

Wow. I'm hoping their going to think things through a little better than this. Seriously. SOME kind of substanital new content for reside. This has just gotten stupid. I've kind of run out of things to brag about with this game, and this kind of thing is making it really, really hard to get anyone to try it.

    Okay,

Copied the entire folder that my desktop shortucut points to.
Placed that folder on the external drive.
Copied that folder to the c:\Games folder on the new machine.

When the updater asks where it wants to be pointed, and I tell it the name of the folder (which in this case is called C:Games\City of Heroes) it tells me there is an error, that I may be out of disk space (I'm not) or that I don't have account permission or control. (I do)

All the folders that are in the City of Heroes folder on my machine are now present on the new one, so far as I can tell. There are no missing folders.

Folders in the City of Heroes Folder
    Cider
    Costumes
    Custom_Critter
    CustomVillainGroup
    doublefusion
    (User Account Settings File)
    logs
    missions
    piggs

Other than the CoH folder, the folder is empty
  4. Not sure what I did wrong here. Moved the COH folder from the original machine to an external hard drive and then copied the files to the C:Game/CoH folder made on the new machine. Then moved the Updater to the desktop. When it asked where I wanted the loadout to be, I indicated the migrated folder and it started downloading from scratch as though there was nothing there. Total wieght of the folder is 2.9G so I'm pretty sure it's all there.

What am I doing wrong here?

(If you use C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\ then point it to C:\Program Files\) This will create the new Registry keys, and create a shortcut to your desktop, delete the CoHUpdater.exe you copied before and you now have a working install of CoH in MUCH less time then redownloading it.
Huh, followed these instructions to the letter. Doesn't work. Ended up having to download the entire thing anyway.

  8. Hey again all.

Trying to get a buddy set back up with the game after installing a new version of windows and don't feel like waiting for the download.

I remember copying the client and then changing where the system looks for the game, but I dont' remember where.

Would anyone mind lending me a hand real quick?
  9. This seriously needs to be updated

No kidding? Everyone says NRG can be soft capped easily. Unless easily means with generic IOs or SO's it still doesn't change the fundamental problem with the powerset.

    Mind/Nrg Build

Wow, almost identical to my main dom. I went with GW for thematic reasons, but other than that and fly instead of jump, I think we're both on on the same page. I solo with this toon more than any other except my SS/INV tank, so I'd say it's a pretty stable solo build.

Have fun with it! I do.

By the Time I position it the fights started and most of my targets are already dead. Dimension shift I'm finding hard to leverage on teams as well. However, Solo Wormole + Drain Psyche + Psychic Scream is working well. I only imagine that PSW will make it even better. All-in-all this combo just doesn't havent much bite until late in the game, thats my opinion.

I will say that Gravity/Thorn and Gravity/Energy seem to work very well together after the changes. Theres a lot of skippable powers in the primary meanig you can focus on the secondary more. I'm getting along fine using just lift and the single target hold in the early levels.

I can vouche for this. Grav/NRG has really, really picked up since the fix to doms, and the combo a LOT of fun even in the mid thirties.

... I'm not. And I also don't believe you. Unless you've dumped an UNGODLY sum of inf on your NRG armor brute, I seriously, seriously doubt you solo AVs with it.

Perhaps had you slotted ED 3rec-reds/3heal it would have been more to your liking.

EA has holes that can only be partially filled with tough/weave and SetIO buffs.

It has a cloak and no real taunt aura, so it should be played like a stalker, not a brute.

I've dumped several EA brutes in the past, but it looks like it will be my secondary for claws when I-16 goes live. The knock from focus and shockwave will go a long way toward keeping it alive until I can get IOs running.

THIS was really helpful.. That's a lot of information I wish I'd had. It seems that almost ALL of the thematically congruent sets are garbage in this game. Elec/ELEC is crap together, at least in my experience, NRG/NRG same, Dark/Dark, same, etc

    Seriously... C'mon.

Guess I'll reroll him as an Invuln/WP brute. Those two sets function as advertised WITHOUT the benefit of a billion inf IO load out. Pretty sure NRG Melee works out alright with Invuln, I recall having a tanker with those sets a long time ago.

OH NOES! I expressed an opinion that wasn't in line with the forum cartel's current nazi stranglehold of permissable posting!

You can softcap-defense an EA brute pretty easily, and your toon will be a lot more fun to play.

The heal is small. I guess the intention is that the heal is supposed to help when fighting large group of mobs.

Usually, EA for energy aura, ElA for electric armor, EM for energy melee, and ElM for electric melee.

I must admit that I'm naive with NRG Armor, as I had never used it before, but the power descriptions all seemed fairly straightforward. If the powers do NOT function as they are described, then I'm pretty sure the problem isn't with me.

That said, I DID slot the brute out with 40 IOs (that's up there in the original post) and I was still pretty much easy meat for whatever wanted me.

I guess what would be appropriate is something in the power's description that explains that it was never intended to be played as a brute or frontline fighter but instead requires the toon to be played as a stalker.
  16. WTF is this? I post my opinion and findings about a broken set and all you can come up with is your elitist "don't feed the troll" ********? Go away.

I'm posting this just to add my voice to the already large call for a revamp for this set. While I realize I don't have eight hundred thousand posts to my title, I DO believe I am entitled to voice my opinion and findings. Knock it off.

Sorry about that, hadn't thought about it at the time. I'll clarify in the future.
  18. I built an EM/EA brute and took him to the AE to be experimented upon.
At level 37 where I pulled him out of the AE, I discovered a few things about EA. Keep in mind that of course these are all my own opinions.

1.) EA does not suit my playstyle. I like to play a toon with a tiny shred of a chance for survival against four even con minions. Against four even con COT, I got my *** kicked every time. Same with CoS. Took ONE even leveled boss, got my *** handed to me.

2.) The END/HP lifesuck they get is worthless. Slotted with two heal and two end mod (40) it was a grand total of 126 hp I get back. Just stupid.

3.) After flying around the Isles for a while LOOKING for an opponent EA is strong against, I failed completely. Everything everywhere pwns EA.

I think I would have fired whoever submitted this to me to be approved and added to the game. The fact that it is STILL in this condition after all these years does not say good things.

Of course, what do I know. But just after spending a full day on it, I'm forced to agree that while I have not been in every possible situation with EA, and no, I haven't combined it with all possible powersets, I AM forced to agree that it fails utterly to perform as advertised and is NOT a valid brute armor set.

    Ice/Fire Guide?

You are teh LUV! thanks muchly, this is pretty close to what I was thinking too. There might be hope for me yet.

Further more, since the Devs allowed double-XP in AE, and I16 will implement a new Difficulty Settings system and a "new" auto-SK feature will be introduced, I see these changes as a sign that the game is evolving into a faster level-grinder game where the content you blow through is meaningless anyway.

The stories themselves, may be better, but as long as just one person can immerse in them, the team leader, and as long as people urge the team onwards into the next group of enemies, stories will play a backseat role to blowing through the levels, which to me means this isn't an MMORPG, but simply an MMO, just like all the others, and that's definitely not what I thought the Devs were trying for.
This sums up my sentiments and fears almost exactly.

    Ice/Fire Guide?

Wanted to thank you for posting this, as I'm in pretty much the same boat with Dodger here. Having a completley unlooked for riot with my Ice/Fire, but am also sure I'm not getting all I can out of him. Also a flier. Anyone else have any valid build ideas?

    This. A thousand billion times.
  23. As is always the case, my judgement alone is the proper and valid one.

    I do hereby rule:

MA was a fantastic idea so poorly implemented that it has become the third component of the DOOOOOOM Trifecta. It is now to be mentioned alongside such great works of programming genius as ED, and GDN.

    I have ruled.

    You are dismissed.
  24. I honestly thought a friend of mine that's been away from the game for a while was just jerking my chain when he said this game "looks like crap now". I hadn't even noticed and had no idea what he was talking about. Going to run around a while and see if I notice any more of the "new face of CoH" rearing it's head.
