Heh *took part in that discussion*
I feel incredibly sad when i think of how much new people are missing out. It really needs attended pronto. A quick fix that nerfs the entire thing then slowly is brought up to acceptable levels would be suffice imo. Because at the minute its getting out of hand. I'd like to see the numbers on new level 50's since MA release... -
Trigger restrictions: This is one thing i'm a little disappointed in. When i heard of the Ma system i imagined that there would be a lot more in terms of triggering. If your unfamiliar with what i mean it's (in this case) the condition that is required for an objective to be created. eg. Boss at 1/2 health -> Ambush the boss would be the condition of the trigger. Including this the only other option is "Objective: completed"
What i would like to see is more control over when things like this would happen. For example adding multiple triggers, At the moment you can barely create a chain of events. (in fact last time i tried it give me the loop error despite after multiple checks it was a chain).
Objectives Suggestion
Defeat * enemies (eg. Defeat 50 Longbow): This one could be difficult in terms of the difference in solo and group play. (The number would have to be flexible for this to be implemented) - Taken from Cimerora TF final mission
Clear ambush: I'm not sure i have to check this one but as far as i know ambushes cannot be set as required objectives, in situations where you are ambushed it would be nice to add, like a villain bank mission, defeat $enemy to escape. (:
Talk mission - Allow a "Person" to be inserted into a mission like a talk. You dont have to interact like a normal talk contact but atleast click -> speak type thing to allow dialogue to be spoken. Currently theres no decent way to insert a person you have to speak with without having to rescue them. And into that they can only speak a few words of dialogue. (please allow a decent size dialogue text space for the "Person")
Additional:
Double missions - Being able to force the player to go from one mission two another, like a two part mission. An example of this would be. mission 1: Travel to place a using device 1. (click objective complete requirement) once finished it sends you to the next map which is really part 2. which would remove leaving the area and the middle part of talking to contact etc.
Obviously restrictions would have to be put on these to be able to make them work but i can at the moment see no way these could be exploited other than adding features for those who want to use this system to create decent exciting stories.
Edit: Small edited addition... Make it possible to add a "Hero" Instead of always being an AV. -
Atleast this one is!
I found this little gem on a website linked and i just had to pass it along. Slightly offtopic, but it is mac related -
likewise i looked like a royal [censored] when i led my mate to find him only to see that he was no where to be seen.

Its not bad customer service. It is as it says on the tin: Feedback. Suggest all you want they are in no position to have to make any changes and if you cant accept that its your loss.
WE pay their wages. Take a note of the Meaning of we, theres thousands of people playing this game. Losing yours won't stop them.
Call it what you want they haven't made everything the same, they fiddled with numbers to equalize the playing field between AT's which is something that never existed. Is it because you can no longer easily just destroy everything in sight now? Is it because other people now have a chance? I'm lost as to why making the PvP more open and enjoyable for more people and classes is a bad thing.
Just because they don't participate doesn't mean they don't test or observe the result of the changes they make. Into that the forums are a source and there's no reason for them to reply to a thread all the time, until they do there won't be any acknowledgment. -
I think your missing two valuable points here, either that or are unaware or ignoring them:
1) Posi is a figure head in the development team, as that he does have a considerable amount of work and decision making but ultimately it boils down to who stands above him. When a team of say 15-30 people sit down and rework a major part of this game they do so using all the resources that you'll never see. You might not understand the reasons behind what's done but have it in good faith that they exist.
2)Posi and the team have spent more than most spend in game working on this little gem of software. Calibrating and changing seemingly for the better. When you try to fix something that lets face it was never perfect in the first place, you do so knowing that changing so late into the future past release that people are not going to be happy.
I can at the moment name about 3 times in MMO history when a major combat rework has cause major upheaval. The reason for this? Because people don't like change. Period. Two of those i completely agree with that they where necessary and i can understand the reasons/see how they achieved the goal of fixing respectively what was wrong. The other i never played just heard about so cannot judge.
To conclude point 2, When you spend that time and effort and you finally fix it. You share it with the world. Change happenz as alliance say, but not everyone enjoys it. Now put yourself in their boots. You work and sculpt this "Masterpiece" and the majority throw it back in your face. Constructive or not, They know a lot more about what is better for the game when it comes to balancing and all the numbers. Yes "But i play this game, im entitled to state my opinion etc" True. But as it stands They're the Games Masters. They hold the position of power and as valuable as your input is. It's not worth jack. The PvP community was diminished as it was. Those that where upset and left simply made no change to the grand scheme of things. And to go about it like that wont solve anything.
I pose the question, if you never had pre i14 PvP would you still be unable to enjoy it?
Personally speaking i don't see what all the fuss is about. I PvP'd on occasion from about i7 till present. Personally i enjoy the more balanced feel that you have now from PvPing. but i'd guess you figured that from the beginning of the post -
Equality FTW!
i enjoy PvP as is, in fact thats going in my sig methinks. -
Besides that there is several stability issues with the recent patches. I've noticed lag spikes, MS connection problems and complete crashes that i've never experienced before now. Into the bargain when i run coh on my Mac and quit it, there seams to be a lasting effect on its cores. For example running simple programs afterwords like itunes and safari cause major lock ups and freezes. Could be non-related but worrying non the less.

If theres an outside spot going send @kindeller a message i'm sure i'll have either one of each VEAT or an MM in and around the level. (failing that a brute 50 ^^
-
Really? My first experience of pvp back in around i8/9 was that of utter disappointment. To find out that my grav/emp troller would get steamrolled by anything that it came across (even a dom) was completely off putting. This was simply due to the unbalanced way the AT's where created. They where supposed to be unbalanced. Some where created to "support" other AT's but in PvP this just didn't work.
Now i can gladly enter any pvp area with my troller and at least stand some sort of a chance and for that i am truly grateful for the changes. I have yet to find any thing i have an issue with (albiet its hard to pvp these days with the lack of enthusiasm about it). They have been trying to do that in my opinion; balance the entire game out by adding extra bonus' to AT's and removing particular effects and protections which in PvE make sense but not in PvP.
Overall a big thumbs up for me. (that said i did enjoy PvP as a scrapper before but having made the initial interaction with a rather useless set i'm happy to know everyone is being considered) -
Even in his last week of work here he was willing to do whatever he could to help me, that in itself is a true testament to his hard work and devotion. If only for i told him to take it easy and i'll bother someone else he would have went ahead! I know he'll be missed greatly ^^
-
Well either way you look at it from that date he's still working today ^^ So you would still be right there, what a time to leave though.
-
Yea really i'm not that bothered i'm willing to wait until release before i make any judgements on its worth. I'm rather excited tbh about it ^^

But I'd imagine that today of all days GR and Avatea may be communicating with the devs (when they're in work) to organise the test server appearance - so it's not even required that the devs themselves read the boards.

GR Has left the team of Developers for good. i was speaking to him previously in e-mail and he said to quote:

...I'll need to defer to Avatea. I'll be leaving NCsoft at the end of April, so I'm only here for another 7 work days (including today)...

Sad news i thought -
Valid points GG i'll give you that but non the less a reason not to have one. It correlates all information on anything going on in one place without the need to search, flick or otherwise get lost to find ^^
I can think of one forum section that springs to mind that would be less active but still has its own section. -
Why do the UK forums not have a player run events section? One of these please.

Just a heads up TH, When you come from playing mxo to this theres a big change. For one the community is alot larger. Most coalitions can outnumber the amount of public people that mxo held. Therefore its hard to define things like big players. Thats not to say you'll get names and faces that are quite vocal like you get anywhere. But generally there in large numbers and not one or the other is anymore important. The same can be said for SG's there are large ones there's small ones but its hard to say which ones are "major powers"(although its a little easier to distinguish) . That said there is a VG/SG table that counts prestige (money for your SG) and ranks them according to that.
Anyway i'll be glad to join you on defiant as none of my Characters there have SG/VG's (: -
Time is relative! And so is perception.
By that i mean, it depends what your scale of good and bad is and if you live with quick up to date responses all your life you don't know how bad it could be. Or say complain when you get M.A because there's not enough content for a released patch... There are many games out there that don't even get patches anymore or struggle with 3 developers or don't advertise at all (like no games on shelf)
/endrant
Anyway grass is always greener bla de bla.. -
I recently created a thread for announcing a sort of monthly event that i wished to be able to update the first OP with information as it goes unfrotunately i find that after several hours you cannot edit the post anymore. Is there any way to change this other than remaking the entire thread? Would it be possible to be given unlimited editing rights to that single post or say get a Mod to update? (id be assuming the latter would take up precious time)

1) You ought to make this more secure than requiring just a screenshot - I'm sure this could be faked somehow. Perhaps a mission complete clue with a code?
There already is a code in the mission completion and duplicated in the Souvenir cluesinstructions with what to do with it is included. But wont be released to stop getting spam fake ones
2) I trust/hope that by 'challenging' you don't simply mean things like an avalanche of mobs with Ninjitsu, which is just fake difficulty in the form of bug abuse.
Within the mission is a series of enemies based of difficult builds used by many a hero and villain. Mixed together they form a tough set of opponents per group. Combine this with ambushes and hidden gems each mission requires good team work and a well balanced experienced team.

Sounds interesting, i can't bring myself to commit to it though until i PARTLY know what the challenge is. For example if the mission has lots of AV i'll want to use my AV killer, if lots of defeat all i'll want to bring my scrapper etc.
As mentioned the arc will be released prior to the challenge officially being issued (keep an eye out will allow for more testing time before the challenge begins) This means you can decide after fiddling with the best combination of characters which to enter.

I've been working on an arc(mission) for quite some time now designed to challenge even the most organized group of players. Its story is nonexistent. Its purpose is clear. Take the term hero or villain to a new level. The arc ID is not widely known nor will it be released till i'm happy its finished and ready for the masses. I'm still in the progress of tweaking enemies and conditions with the help of some of union and defiant's best. (Anyone willing to help test can send a global message to @kindeller)
I therefore make this thread as an official challenge sign up. I pose a competition style idea based off the Arc and the MA system. This is how its going to (hopefully) work.
Each team who wishes to take up the challenge will first enter their team members names and builds (simple format i don't want details Fire/emp is enough) here on the forums. To enter the challenge each member of the team must pay a fee of 5 million influence to be eligible to win. Once paid that team set up can attempt the mission as many times as they wish until they succeed. (or give up) When the competition begins the Arc ID will be released and you can make and change your team and test it for yourself *provided you haven't signed up your team already, any changes after will result in having to pay the fee again!* The winners of the challenge is the team to complete the entire mission for the first time. They take the total pot every team has paid to enter plus an extra bonus influence i will add (not sure on the amount i can come up with i'm aiming to get around 50 million for the pot not including any team entry fees. This may infact increase when released.)
Depending on how successful this is i'll repeat the process like a lottery allowing different challenges each week/month depending on how long it takes for the challenge to be completed.
Terms and Conditions
<ul type="square">[*] The competition is open to anyone, everyone and all those in between. (With exception to aliens, no rikti allowed.)[*]Teams must first sign up in this thread before contacting my global.[*] Teams who are signing up must Designate the Leader and supply the details of the team taking part including AT/Sets and a Team name must be supplied to identify each team taking part.[*]The full team entry fee must be paid before the team is eligible to win. [*] There will be a grace period between which no group can win. This is to allow everyone decent enough time to sign up. (and to allow the pot to be worth actually attempting.)[*]A screenshot of the team including the mission completed navigational bar must be posted on the forums[*]The team can have as many attempts provided the team is as described when the fee was paid (No changing characters after the fee is paid, see below. This excludes missing players, if you succeed without a member for example)[*]If you do however find that you wish to change one the members of your team you can pay the fee for that character alone.[*] If you complete the mission, but fail to complete one or more of the required perquisites you *must complete the mission again*. So make sure you have done everything before putting that effort in!
[*] Once the competition is completed entry will be closed. Confirmation will be posted in the thread.[*] The winning team payment between the team will be discussed together. Any dividing will be done there and then to avoid problems. (unless otherwise requested)[*] Any questions, comments, suggestions or other can be posted here or sent in a global message to @kindeller. I'll try and answer all as quick as i can.[*]All terms and conditions are subject to change prior to the official release of the Arc ID, after which they will remain until the Challenge is over. When finished the terms and condition may be tweaked for the next ID release and so on. (as its the first time this has been organized)
-
ok second time this has happened same as before joined the team late (potentially after they have entered once) and i get thrown to another instance of the map on my own.
Seriously annoying! -

*Blinks* There's a Linux client?

Could be running under wine or something similar.

Given how they did the Mac client (and who they got to do it) it would be possible.

The mac client uses wine too so its not offically a mac client either. (i was also dissapointed to hear this considering)

Bug Description: We tried the last mission of the arc which involved the 21st bank mission and a tough map. after dieing several times and getting near the end of the mission. I encountered a bug in which my character was sent to a new instance of the mission leaving me and my team split. I entered the mission alone and the map had been "reset". After much confusion we did contact GM support. I have a funny feeling it had something to do with the addition of new characters to the TF style team. People who newly joined our team eneded up in the same instance as me. This was in my opinion confirmed when i changed characters again and entered the mish only to be sent to once again another instance on my own. My character was however 50 and didnt get exmped to the level requirement of the mish and therefore was able to finnish the mission solo which saved alot of hassle.
* = There was different members on the team that also participated in the bug but i feel its down to new players joining the TF style teams.
