Just as a side note, people actually had to wait for the reveal to figure out the Lost->Rikti connection? I picked that up the first time a "homeless man" pulled out an energy weapon.

Well, unless DC was planning on using Uncle Sam as their logo, they probably wouldn't have. The DC Logo is their trademark.
Now, as for the copyright... copyright is assumed upon creation of the work and does not require registration. You can register a copyright if you want, but (for example), if I were to create a comic book character for my own indie label (no, I do not have an indie label, it's an example), then copyright is automatically fixated for that character. (This assumes that the character doesn't violate copyright in and of itself. I cannot create my own version of Superman and expect to get away with it without DC bringing the pain.)
So, Uncle Sam as a superhero is a copyrighted property of DC Comics. This doesn't necessarily prohibit other comic book companies from having an Uncle Sam character. You just have to have enough differences to avoid confusion between the two properties. NCSoft is probably taking the position of "look, it's too close, and we don't want to go to court again." -
Quote:As any copyright violations would be a civil matter, it's not a guilty/innocent thing. It's a "preponderance of evidence" thing. (Preponderance of evidence roughly equates to "is it more likely then not likely". Please note, however, that I am not a lawyer.) NCSoft would rather not have to spend copious amounts of time and money arguing civil suits because someone decided to make a "Green Lamp" character, or a "Clawed Canadian Mammal" character or whatever. You're playing on their servers, under their EULA. If someone creates a character that, inadvertently, or on purpose violates a copyright or a trademark, then NCSoft is well within the bounds to generic the character.I am surprised, then, that the consequences of not backing down and fighting the Marvel/DC suit has turned out to be the present policy of "generic first and sort it out through a cumbersome petition process later", which is a guilty-before-being-proven-innocent philosophy that ought to feel alien to most people (and probably does given the surprise it engenders in the innocent who come here and plead their case in the court of public opinion).

Right, so if I did them both before noon Saturday, then the reward tables reset on noon the following Saturday?
Or is it even more complicated by resetting based on when you picked a certain reward?
Example: Midnight Shield (my level 50 tanker), completes part 1 on noon Saturday. I pick the 10 Incarnate threads. One day later (noon Sunday), I complete part 1 again, picking the Astral Merit. (Side note: As I understand it, it wouldn't matter if it was part 1 a second time, or part 2, or November's part 3. They all, IIRC, share the same rewards menu.)
Does the 'loot table' completely reset on the following Saturday? Or does just the Incarnate thread reward reset then, leaving one more day before I can choose the Astral Merit? -
Okay, I ran the first two parts of it on my level 50, and was wondering... does it reset seven days later, or is it a "resets on Sunday" sort of thing?
Basically, do I have to wait until next Saturday before I can get Incarnate threads from one of the two parts again, or what? -
Quote:There is also a DC Comics character named Uncle Sam. That is almost certainly why you were generic'd.I just received word that my character Uncle Sam was genericized. Guy I ran into in the game last night got pissed, swore he'd report me, and apparently he did.
So I get the note this morning that my character is a violation of trademark.
Problem: UNCLE SAM IS A PUBLIC DOMAIN CHARACTER. He's been around for nearly 200 years and is not owned by anyone. ANYONE.
So on what basis was I genericized, and how do I reverse it? -
Dangit, I stop paying attention to the base building forum for a... couple months, and look what I miss.

It is possible that what American Angel saw was a very large decorative room (7x7 or 8x8) 'split' into smaller rooms through the use of the floor/ceiling height tool. You could easily use that to create the illusion of double-width entrances.
-
Although on a clipping note, it's really irritating that the high collar cloak clips horribly when using Earth Dom/Earth Assault powers.
Back on topic, I'd love to see possible Titan weapon animations that have you raise sparks as you scrape the weapon along the ground. -
I just want a comically large hammer. And an I-beam.
-
We're assuming that they're going to be giant-sized melee weapons, but other then that, I don't believe there's a whole lot of information out there.
-
Perhaps they are unlocked by defeating enough of certain types of enemies?
-
Oh, thought I'd let you know, the reason I got more tokens before the 11th was I bought $15 worth of points.
-
Not yet. (I have two token slots to fill yet for Tier 8. October 11 and November 11 would take care of those.)
-
Cool. That means that if I don't buy any more points, I'll fill Tier 8 on November 11th.
-
And the sad thing is, some of the problems with bases being such a pain to make could be solved by adding some very simple items (like fully rendered large surfaces, so we don't have to stack dozens of desks to make a second floor).

Quote:The Nictus shield requires defeating Nictus Romulus five times. The other shield available from the ITF (the Romulus Shield) only requires beating him once.I thought the shield required 5 defeats as well, they may have changed it though. Been a while since I ran an ITF.
The other Roman shields (Roman, Engineer, Soldier, General) only require beating 100 Cimeroan Traitors. Which can easily be done during the ITF even if you didn't have any credit towards it before. -
Okay, what's the deal? I keep clicking remember me, but it used to be that maybe once a week, I'd have to relog onto the forums. Now, my login id lasts maybe six hours before I have to remind it who I am.
Is there something in the User CP that I have to adjust, or is this just a sympton of the game going free to play?
Likewise, is everyone else having to accept the User Agreement every time they log into the game? -
Whoa, which contact(s) can you let die?
-
You're almost certainly using one of the signature sprints (unless something changed with the patch today). Right click on it, and see if it's called Sprint or something else.

I'm guessing they want to stagger releases of powersets a bit, so they have a more of a regular money-stream.

I can't say for the Energy Mastery laser beam eyes, but the Radiation Blast X-Ray Beam, which I believe uses the same animation, doesn't seem to have any problems emanating from the correct spot when on a "as short as possible" character.
