  1. So kind of off topic in an off-topic thread anyway. I had a long/spattered subscription to CoH. Played a lot of WoW (and some CoH) for the last few years.

The rogue community on WoW was by far the most min/max'ing class. We had the best tools, and most dedicated people to making the tools accurate and easy to use.

I get the feeling that the scrapper community is the same, especially if other classes are coming for build advice (and getting the results or better that they want). I'm glad of this, and I enjoy reading the information in these posts.
  2. **edit**
New Mids just came out, so I finished this one. Still working on the other.
    **end edit**

Here is pretty much my current build (it is *very* expensive...9 billionish). I tried to get max damage while being defense capped. You'll notice that melee is under cap -- but Spring Attack hasn't been added in Mid's yet, where another Obliteration set goes. This yields 67.5% recharge (127.5 with hasten up). That coupled with Spiritual for recharge is yielding < 25 second recharges on Lightning Rod and Shield Charge while hasten is up (perma, but I keep status defense on auto).

Reason for partial Armagedon, the last bonus is kinda useless, and the damage proc yields more damage on average than the Acc/Dmg/Rec provides in damage. You can obviously swap these out if you want the extra bit of recharge (understandibly), and drop the dmg/end one.

You'll also see there are extra slots and powers for you to do with as you wish. I did Spring Attack, and 6 slotted it for obliteration (thus getting melee to defense cap), and finished off with Grant Cover. You can take things earlier or later as you see fit. I think I took Spring Attack earlier than 47, just make sure you have the slots available.

I'm working on an Alternate build that will give 72.5% recharge, and more regen, while keeping the same damage sets, but adding 230+% regen, where this one is 180% regen.

    Incarnate:
    Alpha = Spiritual for recharge
    Destiny = Rebirth for heal/regen
Interface = Reactive for 75% chance to proc fire
    Lore = Whatever
Judgement = Ion, for consistency with Elec?

You can get enough recharge to get spin down to a 2.55 second recharge with incarnate recharge ability and without purple sets.

That's a .05 recharge time over it's casting animation. Put a proc in spin, get the incarnate -resistance/fire proc interface ability and you spin mobs to death in seconds.

If you need a larger range, shockwave is a great cone that recharges in just over 4 seconds in my build. Been eviserate, spin, and shockwave you simply tear mobs to pieces rather quickly.

((Actually, I forgot. Those are the recharge times without incarnate abilities applied. Though without purples hasten isn't perma. ))
My brother does claws/wp, and I can attest to this -- SR prob works out even better with quickness.
  5. I dumped about 7 billion into an Elec/Shield scrapper, and he is an absolute beast. Working on leveling incarnate abilities now. Lvl 1 heal, judge, and lvl 3 alpha ATM.

Defense capped, Armageddon in lightning rod, obliterations in spring attack (new jumping pool attack) and shield charge, thunder strike, and jacobs ladder. Currently Chain induction has 4/6 touch of death, 2/6 Hecatomb. Going to go 5/6 Hecatomb (for 10% recharge), and 1/6 touch of death (the damage proc one).

I'll be going down the fire dmg proc for attacks, ion judgement (i guess for consistency's sake).

Currently have LR and SC down to a ~36 second cooldown w/o the 10% from Hecatomb or hasten, spring jump attack thing is at ~50 sec. Can cycle thunder clap, chain induction, and jacob's ladder regularly (every so often hit a havoc punch or something).

The incarnate heal is the big thing in this build, and I get/burn enough insps while farming that I can take some burst when defense fails.

LR will kill all minions easily, and sometimes lieutenants. SR finishes them off.

Once Mids updates, I'll put what I have up -- but no spring attack messes with the defense and slot allocation. Currently 45.9 ranged, 45.01 melee, 45.9 AoE defenses. 29.something smash/lethal resists + various other set stuff.

Once the fire procs start happening, I can't imaging the aoe dmg. LR already hits for upwards of 1000 between the procs/build up/crits.

    **edit**
Just tested LR with hasten, timed it at 26 seconds. So that'll get even better when hecatomb is completed.

i have to say, im not impressed at all by this.

people randomly get booted, then the server dies and kills the channel. you have to type a whole sentance to talk to someone in a certain channel. the names they pulled were wrong. invite SG doesnt work right (make a new channel and invite SG, and you get errors that you already invited people... HOW?). you still have to do /chatbeta 1 (if its still a beta, why is it on live already?)

the only good freature i see is the global friend and ignore. i would have been happy to just have that... creating your own channels doesnt work at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Once again...try testing a MULTI-server chat on a SINGLE server. That's why it's /chatbeta, and not /chatFINAL. I've already created channels, and I'm currently in "Kill Skuls" -- yes, with a space. CuppaJo just stopped in too. It works.

    Now if you don't want to chat/test/be DC'd, do /chatbeat 0
  7. [ QUOTE ]
another fine example of throwing things out of test onto live without actually usuing data from test servers.

You test a MULTI-server chat program on a SINGLE server, and we'll take your comments to heart.

My 2 inf on the cost issue. Cedega only costs $99/year if you want to be able to use their upgrading system. Since Cedega 4.0.1 works beautifully with CoH just spend the $30 and get the product...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm..... last time I checked Windows XP upgrade cost $89..... so with that $99 you could buy the actual operating system, have NO compatibility issues and still have enough money for 10 Frostee's at Wendy's! Now why would I want to pay for this program?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hrm...why even post something like this? It contributes nothing. If you don't want to run CoH in Linux and/or buy that program, there is no need to post.

I'll be popping it on this system soon enough:
    P4 3 Ghz @ 3.2
    GeForce 4 Ti4200 w/ 128 MB DDR
1 Gig Corsair PC3200 (@ 440mhz) XL Pro something or another RAM (with LED things--so cool)

    Running SuSE 9.2/Win XP Pro

Nothing else really matters. :P 40 Gig Wester Digital for linux, 80 Gig Wester Digital for Windows...mmm, yeah, that's all. You suggested just getting the current version for 30$? How much difference is there in game play? Would it just be more reasonable to reboot into Windows?
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I have done it multiple times: More people = better chance of winning (and I was one of the biggest mouths when it came to bringing down the difficulty back when it was hard)

A bubbler is all you need; and several scrappers. Make sure melee are the highest levels (if you have a 30 defender, make sure all the scrappers and tankers are 30 or higher)

Best odds at winning are with the same level team - all the way through...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm going to tape me solo'ing it. I tried to get it started once, but I need 4 to start it...I got 3 people to join for a second, started the TF, they all quit, and it booted me from the TF. I think I need to complete the first mission or something. Bigger teams don't make a better chance to win, good teams do. I did it with an Invuln tank and an FF defender--no trouble (sky raider version). I'll be solo'ing the freak version for the recording though.

    Three questions for the StatesMAN

    1. Are you looking at status protection for blasters?
    2. Are you looking at changing DEVICES at all?
    3. What's your favorite ice-cream flavor?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    1) Blasters don't need status protection. Why would you be anything else if you didn't have to worry about being mezzed/held? Blasters should have no defenses. They destroy enemies. If blasters get defense, I want my controller to have damage abilities.

Great... you heard the man statesman. At level 32 give us some defense.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have very little damage at level 32 with my Singularities. Granted it's more than I had, it doesn't match anything else. But then again, if you want defense at 32, and your 32 power is dropped, fine by me.

    2) Devices is awesome how it is. I play with an AR/Dev who loves his devices. Smoke bomb still works, trip mine/time bomb are awesome...if anything, maybe up the damage of the turret a little, or make it a cone with better range. It is great for drawing aggro though, but it dies fast.
    3) Couldn't answer that for you.

When you say Super Reflexes may be a little gimped--does that mean you may make it a little better? My DM/SR would appreciate it.

Oh yeah, add a little more damage to Midnight Grasp.
  13. Any thoughts on Midnight Grasp? I have to say that Shadow Maul is a better power. Why is my level 4 power better than my level 32 power? Can you up the damage over time, or up the damage it does initially on that first hit? It says Superior damage...but it's not all that great. Maybe make it hit a couple people at a time...I don't know, but I'm ready to respec out of it as it is now. I'm only at 33, so I have it 4 slotted, 3 damage, one acc--I don't see those other 2 damage slots doing enough to keep the power.

Also, I've heard something about more changes to Elude, or other SR powers--what's in store for them, or was I just hearing things?
  14. I did it on the first day, before they lowered the difficulty--2 deaths, both by an altruistic blaster. That was with my controller, all of us were level 33...fighting 35s the entire time, with no less than 3 bosses per group. That was with they Sky Raiders. The second time was a joke, with the Freaks.

I then started a new character, with a friend. We destroyed the Sky Raider version...it was just me (DM/SR), my tank friend (Invuln/SS), and an FF defender. That's it, 3 people. I'm confident that we would have beaten it ourselves, but the FF defender wanted to stick around. He did help though, of course.

As for being gimped...yes. We were in it for the respec, so we could fix ourselves. If anything they need to make it harder.
  15. Bah, I bought a new hard drive to install Windows on, so I could play CoH. :-/

(I know there are more $$ effcient ways to do that, but I'm lazy)

Learn to play the game. Don't tell me you know how either, because if you're in debt because smoke bomb now does what it should do, you don't know how to play.

This allows your hero to teleport around corners and buildings, but not into solid objects. (Which includes objects with doors.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmmmmm. Why *not* through a building with a door? Surely this cannot be a limitation with the game mechanics, unless of course we are dealing with Zoning issues? It is still hollowed out (not solid) inside the building's foyer, isn't it? "Nightcrawler" would be pretty gimped if he had to follow all those CoH TP Rules.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Go to a building, zoom out as far as you can...use the middle mouse button to move your camera around, click teleport, put the locator down around the corner of the building, or on the other side of it if you can, and teleport. There, you teleported through a building. Just because Tsoo Sorc's can do it faster, doesn't mean you can't.
  18. Blah, get over it.

The Devs try to make the game fun--with their vision. I have a 32 Grav/kin controller, and have played with a Tank through my lvls, about the same ammount of time devoted, he is now 38. I don't care that he lvls faster or can solo better. I still have fun.

Everyone is mad at these "nerfs" because they are selfish. Imps/Phantasm nerfs--totally justifiable. Why would a controller take out mobs? Granted it is nice to be able to, but that's not what you're designed to do. Smoke bomb nerf--what was it, a 220% acc reduction? That is just insane. These mobs must be hitting themselves after that. Horray for the 5% deduction or whatever they are fixing it to. What's wrong? Blasters now have to *think* before going into a battle, or rely on someone else? I like leveling just as much as the next guy, but seriously, take some time to enjoy the game.

Devs, thank for the game--nerf Singy if you want, I'll still use it. Thanks for not letting it do group holds, that would make tanks/scrappers/blasters useless. Thanks for *fixing* tanks and blasters and scrappers, else controllers and defenders would be useless. Thanks for *fixing* Phantasm and Imps, they made tanks and scrappers useless. If I play as a controller and can hold and destroy mobs in seconds, why would I want to play as a tank ever, or even have one play with me?

People have to look at the big picture, not just themselves.
