I'd go Rad/Traps Corruptor. Solely because Anything/Traps is awesome. Even, like, Wet Noodle Blast/Traps. Both Traps and Rad Blast also work pretty well up close and personal.

I just realized today that, with the new low-level missions replacing Azuria and the gang, the whole FBSA (MAGI, GIFT, SERAPH, DATA, and ELITE,) are pretty much unused. A few old missions have you swing by to ask them for favors occasionally, but that's about it. Which is kinda a shame, since a government agency for the monitoring and containing of superpowered threats should theoretically be a huge deal to heroes and villains of all levels.
Similarly, Hero Corps. A company of for-profit heroes...! which apparently has nothing better to do than tweak your reputation for free. Also there's Colleen Saramago, a Hero Corps agent who gives you work and never even mentions paying you. Cheapskate.
Also! Rikti spies! They could be anyone. Except, more commonly, they're not. There is, I think, one one-off hero mission dealing with them, plus Kelly Uqua. Seems like the billboards scattered all over the city were kind of a waste if they're that rare. Or maybe they're just so good at hiding that we never noticed them.
So, what other cool bits of the setting are just kinda hanging out, nearly unused? -
What are the different triggers for speech that you're going to be using? Or is that up to us, too?

No, no, no, you're doing it all wrong. You have to open these threads saying that you can't get any good character name on any server, and that the only people who can successfully create characters at this point are using a blend of Basque and 13 century Mongolian for their character names.

Quote:It turns out they also had some footage of a modern Keystone Kops remake sitting around and just turned it into Green Lantern footage with the magic of CGI.I think we needed more time with the other Lanterns (especially Sinestro) since we get very little character development for any of them to understand why it is such an honor that Hal be included among them. In fact all we really see is them talking and them failing time after time

Quote:Huh. I wouldn't have expected Lore pets to be the sole exception, but if they are, they are.Lore pets don't ignore recharge buffs, unless it was changed in a recent patch.
Look at the video in my signature and compare the time it takes for Vicky's attacks to recharge with the time they are supposed to recharge(8s for lasers, 6s for cross cut, 4s for swipe).
Applying Adrenalin Boost to Vicky made my time about 50% faster. -

Quote:Claws, you are a reasonable and classy dude.I was against the game going to a F2P model precisely because of my concerns about behavior, both from the free players and the veterans. Since it's happening whether I like it or not, I'm just accepting it and trying to stay open-minded about the possibilities it presents. So far, my concerns about the behavior of the veterans have been more or less eased. The behavior of the new free players remains to be seen, but I'm not going to make any assumptions about people I've never met.

Quote:There's a lot of disparate characters and threads that don't seem to be going anywhere early on, but since it's fiction, it's easy to watch secure in the knowledge that it's going to come together and go somewhere. I enjoy the mystery of figuring out how it's all going to play out.
And when it does come together, hooboy.Quote:I wasn't that keen on Durarara!! early on, in fact I wouldn't have watched beyond the first 3-4 episodes were it not what my uni anime society was showing. However, I'd suggest you persevere with it, as it gets much much better later on. -
Quote:But Group X is potty-mouthed...Saying "Oh, I've seen Group X before, I know all about Group X. Group X is nothing but a bunch of potty-mouthed children. I don't blame anyone for wanting to avoid them." is a prime example of the kind of elitist attitude I was expressing concern about in my OP of this thread.

It's written, produced, and directed by the same guys as Baccano!, which is one of my favorite shows of all time... but I'm in Tenzhi's camp. I watched three or four episodes way back when and nothing in it really grabbed me enough to merit watching more.

Quote:I like the cut of your jib.On a similar note, a lot of trial accounts have complained about the inability to find teams via tells or broadcast. Suggestion: Allow VIP to "sponsor" one or two F/P players, essentially giving them a slightly expanded channel use, say tells and broadcasts, at the rate of one per minute. The usage limit should serve as a shiny carrot to dangle to spring for a subscription while preventing a flood of replaceable spam characters. The sponsorship "token" would be returned to the issuer if the sponsoree upgrades to a VIP account; it would not be returned or refunded if they go inactive or get banned.
-
Well, they can't broadcast unless they spend money, so there's that. I'd expect it'll stay confined to /local.

Quote:Plus, brand new server = server with zero names taken on it on day one. That alone is going to lead to some interesting developments, I think. I have a few names taken by apparently-inactive players that I can finally snatch up in this new land. One thing that I'll be intensely interested in is to see how the new VIP server community develops over time. We've never had a single server spring into existence like this from scratch. There will be representatives from all the other servers, some of whom have been playing for years but never actually met in-game, finally being part of the same groups. Everyone there will be new, something that hasn't happened since the European launch in 2005. I seriously doubt that it will be made up only of elitist snobs, any more than any of the servers are today; it will be just average schmoes who have been playing all along and want somewhere new to try out. I'm pretty sure they have no intention of letting people move supergroups and/or bases over to the VIP server, that they will be forcing everyone who wants to play there to start from scratch. I really like that idea, because we'll all be starting from scratch, and I think it will be really fresh and interesting to see how it plays out.
Quote:Exactly. This is no different than the complaints about PvP. There is a small but obnoxious number of PvP players that gets their jollies acting like d-bags. Everyone knows they don't represent the whole PvP population but PvE players will avoid PvP zones altogether rather than risk encountering one of the jerks.
There's little to no elitism or snobbery going on, just people wanting to avoid D-bags.
(Myself, I'm gonna stake some claims on the VIP server for a few characters I'd like to play, in case it develops a population. My current characters will be staying on Virtue until I've assessed the impact for a couple of weeks.) -
Pff, I'm going Time/DP Defender. Now we just need a power pool with Drive A Tanker Truck Into Them and Lots of Bazookas powers...

Son, I am disappoint. However, the subscriber-only server thing is exactly what I said I'd want CoH to do if it went F2P, so if every paid player were to get free transfers there or something, I'm significantly less disappoint, because I can sit in my shiny penthouse and ignore the F2P slums.
Trying to go to http://www.coh.com/freedom redirects you to http://www.cityofheroes.com/en/news/..._overview.html, which is a 404, but it would appear that there's a framework in place for it.
Edit: There is now a working link to http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/fre..._overview.html -

Quote:I'm starting to get very interested in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. On the face of it, it sounds fairly confusing and bizarre, but I've heard nothing but good things about it so far. Cute magical girl story meets cosmic horror story. Definitely not for young kids, despite the art style.Quote:Madoka has (finally) ended. All I can say is something along the lines of "HOLY **** THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!". Watch it. Even if magical girls and cuteness normally would put you off, give it three episodes to change your mind....Quote:This is my face at the end of every episdoe of Madoka: 0_o My friend that doesn't watch anime is even hooked on it.Quote:Puella Magi Madoka Magica - As you might guess, this is a magical girl show. Or to be more precise, a brutal deconstruction of a magical girl show. Giving kids superpowers and asking them to save the world should not be a good idea, and Madoka explores this. A bit of a slow start perhaps, but it picks up very well with the ending of ep 3.

Quote:And a lot of the badges that have straightforward requirements tend to be grind-y kill-100-grey-bosses sorts.Just looking at it as an outsider, it seems a pretty nasty situation. If you haven't been playing the game from day 1 there is no way to complete. There are badges that just aren't available unless you are willing to prostitute yourself in odd , and any badges that you do go to considerable effort to obtain seem to get nerfed in random ways.

Ones nobody's mentioned:
Crab Spider Webmasters have high protection from everything, as do Widows.
Devouring Earth have an emanator that gives them mezz protection, although I'm not sure of the variety.
Longbow Officers have a leadership aura that gives everybody around them confuse protection.
Rikti Mentalists/Mesmerists have higher-than-normal protection against sleep, fear, and confuse.
Lost lieutenants and bosses have higher-than-normal protection against hold, disorient, and sleep.
Troll lieutenants and bosses get some mixed mezz protection/defense with their toggles, but I don't recall how useful it is to them.
Ancestor Spirits are highly protected against sleeps, immobilize, and fear.
Some Destroyers are protected from stuff too, but I don't recall exactly what. -

But still not Empathy. -
I do have to agree with the general sentiment that there isn't always a lot of progress from 32-50. It depends on the build, but for several of my characters, once they hit 32, there's not much left for them to get other than situational utility stuff (crashing nukes, crashing godmodes, epic power pools.) On some characters, this point is more like level 26. On the other hand, some of my characters have kept getting important powers right up to 49... but I've definitely had a character or twelve stall in the thirties or early forties after picking up everything I consider important.

Quote:I like Serenity, but I have some problems with it in general. Namely the way that they go from the series, where the crew is usually running small jobs and trying to come out just far enough ahead that they can keep in the air for one more day, to suddenly risking their lives to oppose the government. It wasn't an illogical leap, just enough of a change in theme that it left me feeling a little cold. The first 15 minutes of Serenity are as perfectly crafted as cinema gets. People go on and on about the opening shot of The Player, but Whedon took that idea and cranked it past 11 to come around again. Not just the degree of difficulty of the tracking shot from bridge to engine room (there's a cut between the engine room and the confrontation between Mal and Simon), but the fact that the entire thing manages to set up not just the characters and the conflict, but also an entire universe. Brilliant.
What's also amazing about that opening sequence is that it's layers atop layers, peeling back one after another, going from the inside to the outside... which just so happens to echo precisely the character arc of River Tam, which further parallels the physical journey the characters go on, culminating in the ship bursting forth from the storm clouds into sunshine. That sequence is also brutal, cool and funny by turns, amping its brilliance further.
I'm surprised when people say they dislike it, because it is just so ineffably awesome. Even if you're not aware of the cinematic brilliance of the construction, it's still a cracking good story with a ton of action and genuinely funny lines.
