Hopefully, you'll be able to place additional named bosses like the Atta's Guards in the Atta mission.

I do see the cool factor in designing missions but I have to ask:

Are they going to give us tools to help us differenciate the standard missions we do right now?

If not, how can we create missions that are more fun and original to play than we currently get on the live server?

And if we can do things/ create missions that are superior to the type that we currently recieve, then why the heck arent the devs serving them up to us already?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, aside from some designers who will probably be able to devote far more time to one arc, compared to NCNC writers who have to split their attention across several and have less opportunity to keep going back and "fine-tuning", there's also the fact that the playerbase is more likely to find something like the floating desk "feature" that was discovered in the base editor that can do something new or different, but had not been intended.

As for keeping files off-line, it could be something along the lines of the "interpreter" we have for movies where, sure, you can go and "hack" the original file, but anything not originally intended may well get thrown back as an error message when you attempt to publish it.

    and 1000 maps? I can't even think of 100.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm guessing they are counting the various alternate layouts with the same "tileset" as different, so there's probably a good fifteen, twenty office maps, for instance...

The power will combine both a shapechange costume and a travel power. On activation you transform into a car, bus or truck.

  5. [ QUOTE ]
I daresay most people will almost exclusively use the 'quick pick' meathod of getting a mission. This could lead to people mostly picking those missions which manage to achieve 5 stars. Those missions with 5 stars will get played more possibly to the detriment of those missions which have not yet been rated. Unless someone is specifically looking to play a new, unrated missions, I suspect that the rule of the lazy could come into effect.

Yes, this is all speculation and conjecture but it is all building up to the time when I can say 'this is my excuse for not having a 5 star rated misison' (I seriously doubt even my best attempt at a mission would get 5 stars)

    [/ QUOTE ]

They could have the default for a completely unrated mission being at the maximum rating so they show top of the list, with an opt out tickbox to not show them, which would help new arcs/missions get played.

As to how many will be playing them, it might also depend on whether they are "instant access", in that you go straight into the mission without having to travel to the mission door: if so, I can see low level missions being very popular, even with the reduced XP (and if it's not prominently shown, many may not even realise there's a different XP award structure). In that case, they may also end up being the new "quick log in and run a mission" over the paper missions for the casual gamer.
  6. Happy Birthday!

(Was setting off the car alarm actually a specification of her birthday wishes?)
  7. Well, the star rating has, I think, been described as being how the missions will be ordered on the "quick selection" screen, suggesting that there may be at least one other method of selecting a mission. Perhaps you can set yourself to randomly take missions, or select missions that use a specific enemy group (really allowing your character to take up a "personal war against the X").

I have to say, given my chronic altitis (I just got the 48 month vet the other day, and I still don't have a single level 50! ) I may well end up doing PCC almost exclusively for the early half of the game. I imagine there'll be a few players at the cap who will be glad to run through PCC missions (I hope they have a Flashback type option for PCC!) and some players who will just aim to experience as broad a range of PCC as possible. I imagine the liklihood of having no-one play a mission is probably pretty slim.
  8. I imagine the "Dev choice" may well be led by the community managers and GMs, some of whom are probably going to be in the game anyways to help out players when needed. I wouldn't be too surprised if collecting a few "Dev choice" awards may also give an option to flag other missions for Dev notice too, so as the group of quality mission writers with Dev approval grows, the faster they'll find others of merit.

Which crystal in Ouroboros is the one that allows travel to Tuesday?

Ah, a crystal that by clicking on, allows you to travel one second into the future?
  10. Well, "architect" is an anagram of "that Circe", so obviously it's going to be the new bacon-based power set!

Actually, if that were the case, I'm sure they'd have gone the whole hog and released the details of the update to the gamon a Fryday.

    I'll get my cape...

    Mission Creator

I'd guess any NPC that is going to use powers, whether for, against, or indifferent to the players will have to utilise powers from specific groups that have the AI already coded for them, so while you could have your other villains/heroes in a mission looking very much like your alt, they won't have the same range of powers: a bit like Jim Tremblor has crosses of Controller and Tanker earth powers instead of a full set of either.

    Moral Compass

    "It's that time again!"
    "To make bizarre faces?"
"To encourage kids to send us candy?"
"No, it's time to learn today's lesson! And to find out what it is, we turn to the Wheel of Morality.
"Wheel of Morality, turn, turn, turn! Tell us the lesson that we should learn...
"Moral #1. And the moral of today's story is: Brush your teeth after every meal. This moral brought to you by the American Dental Association."
  13. I thought Containment was deactivated for the Epic pools, for the precise reason that Controllers were doing too much damage with them?

And do Defiance (2.whatever) and Critical's only work on base damage? I was under the impression they stack buffs/enhancements too, but I admit I don't know whether that's true.

As for the AoE attacks: they draw a lot of agro, and certainly for the Grav set, only provide very small ticks over time. Added to which, the Immob, as I said before, draws the agro (and uses more Endurance the more targets it hits) and doesn't stop their ranged attacks, and the AoE Holds do little more than buy a few seconds before they all recover and come looking for your blood.
  14. To be fair, how many damage dealing powers (that can potentially out-damage a Blaster) do Controller's get? Sure, my damage output on Propel against a "Contained" mob is powerful, but it's also incredibly slow "casting" time, uses a lot of Endurance, and isn't spectacularly accurate. Maybe other Controller's are different (I've only got a high level Grav/Emp to my account name), but I don't think I'm particularly overpowered.

As to the "position of safety" with the holds: yes, we are pretty safe, provided that we are on the ball and play our part well. Post-Containment introduction, AoE Holds are just a way of delaying a lot of agro for a few seconds (and it doesn't recharge fast enough to get a second go in a fight) and AoE Immobs just prevent close quarters melee damage.

Personally, I would like to see some return to pre-Containment levels of controlling for a lot of the time. Containment is good for soloing, but on a team, it's next to worthless for the time it takes to actually do the damage: someone nearly always comes in and mops up the mob before a Propel is launched, for example. Perhaps roll back the controll numbers to the old times/recharge/etc. and add a Domination-type clicky that gives Containment double damage when used, but nerfs your control?
  15. Has anyone here tried the Capes roleplay system? (linky) It looks quite interesting from the Flash demo of a game being played ('nother linky) and I thought I might see whether my gaming group might be interested in trying a quick game (of Capes Lite, available for free from the downloads page) when next we get together.

Something that occured to me though: pretty much the entirity of the dice rolling mechanics involve rolling single six-side dice. CoX have a random six sided dice emote...

I imagine that keeping track of resources might be a little on the problematic side in game, but perhaps a system that could be used in CoX for those who would like to move a small step away from the complete freeform version often used?
  16. That was amazingly well put together: fantasticly atmospheric, a well crafted fight scene, and such a poignant ending!

  18. How about Charna, from a Slavic word for "dark", which if you're after a slightly "comical" name you could have Charna L'Owse (charnel house being a vault for corpses, although not sure if the pronounciation of the name quite works).

Or Senka, from the Serbian for "shadow"?
  19. I'd like to nominate khaine_star's suggestion for a CoH Story Arc
  20. KeeperOfSorrows

    Guidelines?

I think the only "hard-and-fast" rule shared by every group of roleplayers (and for some, the only rule of roleplay) is "no god-modding": basically, don't try to say how any other player would react or be affected by anything that you do. So,

bad rp: *I punch KeeperOfSorrows in the jaw, shattering bone and knocking him unconcious*

    while...

good rp: *I swing my fist at KeeperOfSorrows, holding nothing back and aiming for his jaw.

...and then wait to see what the response to that situation would be. (Note: not all good RP need feature me )

Some groups might have other rules they like to follow, but if you avoid the "god-modding" most are friendly enough to help you through learning anything else.

...a little flying robot that takes pictures.

Nicely explained if you have a targetting drone as a Blaster: the drone doubles up as a orbiting camera, or perhaps a video camera, the purpose of which is to replay your tactics for review at a later time.

And lots of characters have those drones, so presumably they wouldn't be too expensive to purchase a fudge-flavoured version for a different AT.
