I think it's about time to have another "free art for caption contest" ... for VIRTUE only !!

So, maybe it's the "client" that often determines the views?

Yeah, I think you are kind of right. Although I love to do the "straight on, frontal, look-at-me" type of shot, maybe people want to see something not so ordinary.

Part of the reason I am looking at this is because I always try to see the piece through other people's eyes. I know what "I" think it looks like, but we all have different perspectives on things, and I'm curious as to what other's are.

Well now, I suppose you all got the same e-mail I did. he one talking about this being a double xp weekend.

Juggertha has been at lvl 46 for quite a long time and I'm considering taking this weekend off the art and trying to level him a bit.

Naughty Nadya , Feral Kat, and anyone else I have on my list... fear not. I'm now trying to finish up some of my projects on the weekdays! Man, maybe I should just take some time off work. lol


So, anyone else going to abandon this forum and actually play?

Total time for me is 5 - 10 hours. I prefer to do it in one or two sittings though.

Actually, I wonder about the views. I don't think it registers my views of the subject (cuz if it did it'd be way higher), so does it catch individual IPs?

Lately, I have become a big fan of Deviant Art. Not only does it showcase some amazing talent, but if you do post anything, you are able to see certain stats. One thing I've found interesting is to see how many views a piece gets.

At first I was getting about 100 views per piece, then it jumped to about 300. Now, it's slightly more. I had kind of hoped that it had something to do with me getting better... but for some reason I doubt that.

Here are a few examples...

-Static Thunder (1,543 views)
-Extraplanar (364 views)

Now both of these are good pieces IMO. Both deal with light from a specific and well defined direction. And both are cool character concepts. So... why the views difference?

Another interesting thing is... my Marvel shots don't get that many views.
Juggernaut (355) Wolverine (93) and Colossus (446). Could it be that people aren't really all that interested in the X-Men?? Are people tired of Wolverine? Nah, say it ain't so. While I post pics on a couple of sites, I think a lot of my views come from THIS site. And I'm guessing the people here just like to see player concepts more.

I've also found that if I tag anything NSFW (681) then people will go to it no matter what it is. I'm guessing people are just wanting to see the human form is all (?)

It's interesting to note that my favorite one of Juggertha (68) barely registers as a blip on the view screen. Maybe because it's on my second page? Or maybe it's just not as good as I think it is (besides, who really wants to look at that face anyway).

I'm posting this NOT so you'll look at the pics (that why I put view numers in there) but more so because I'm wondering if anyone else keeps track of stuff like this. I get a little goofy sometimes and like to see stats for things. I like to try to figure out the "why" behind it all.

Anyone else like that?

I'd have to agree with many of the above comments. When first learning to draw, I never traced. I would however look at another drawing or object and get proportions from there.

Drawing free-hand on the comp is still my bane though.

Very very cool man.

He was actually meaning brush opacity. If you are using airbrush, you can chage it's opacity and you won't have to worry that much about heavy overlap.


BTW, you using a mouse or pen?

I've always wondered what makes people comment in this forum.

There are some serious regulars... but what drives the others?

Personally I'd love it if there was just a master post (not a thread) that had updated websites or sample art. I think Blizzard has that in their gallery. why do these guys not even accept anymore fan art? (was that ever answered?)

Yeah seriously guys, I know I missed about half the artists on this board. That's why I was kind of hoping others would step in. Not only do I want to hear about the artists that I missed, but I'm also curious to hear about the ones I commented on. I just want to hear other peoples thoughts on tthe art here.



As for having a thread just for artists (and their galleries) we kind of have that already (top of this forum), but IMO it seems cluttered and out of date. Maybe it should be tossed and a new one started up?
