Cosmic Flux Gots a Scanner!
I like your States quite a bit... and the Posi is somehow... cute... <o.O> I can't explain it.
Your first picture; the lips kinda bother me a bit... I'm wondering; have you considered going with the "line" lip? (Ie: you draw the outline of the upper part of the lower lip, and maybe a bit under it; but don't draw the lips as a whole)?
Its just a thought; there are plenty of ways to do full lips >.> I've always sucked at them though; so thats what I do.
Overall you've got a pretty good start <^,^> keep posting.
Agreed. Definately got your own style to it man.
Keep 'em comin'
I think for Statesman you got the lips dead-on, compared to the first one.
Thanks guys.
I think by the time I got to the lips on the first one, I'd struggled so much with the nose and it was late, that I sort of gave up trying to get them right.
Today, I've been working on a sketch of my Claws Scrapper, but it's going so-so. Decided to put it away and work on it again tonight.
For the most part when I do a full figure, I think I get the stick figure right. The next stage of converting the stick figure to basic shapes goes okay. Taking it from spheres, boxes and cylinders though gets very tricky. I think that's what I need to work on.

I think the lips in the first one are bothering you because they look like fish lips. ;P
Very good progress between the first one and the second two.
And lol yeah, the positron one definitely has a cute factor to it. Probably because the antenna look like a couple of tiny wabbit ears. Awwwww
wabbit ears
Couldn't find any in the same pose though, people don't seem to take pictures of animals head on.
No cute Positrons or elongated Statesman heads this time.
First up, a rough WIP sketch I started today of my Claws-Regen Scrapper, Shadow Crash.
Shadow Crash
When I sketch between calls at work, I don't have any art books to refer to when I'm stumped on a particular part of the body. I found an anime tutorial and sketched/copied from one of the figures on the page.

Nothing really to show from last night. I mainly spent some time copying stick figure action poses from the How to Draw the Marvel Way book. I'm not sure how productive that actually is, but it was working my brain and pencil to try to get the line I was trying to draw drawn...so I guess that's helpful.

Well, I'd have to say your off to a pretty good start here. As lips go, you did a right nice job on Statesman's lips (it's generally not a good idea to fully outline the lips, they are not a separate thing glued onto the face... they are the slightly differently colored top terminating points of the flesh that covers the teeth and mouth). You major weakness that I can see at this point in time is your eyes.
Atomic Knight posted a nice tutorial on the eyes somewhere... but can't remember where and I'm too lazy to find it, sorry. But one things that you can do that would really improve them is simply adding a shine bubble that partially covers the pupil and the iris. That will help to counter the intense soul searing stair that your eyes currently have with such naked pupils.
Still, yer off to an excellent start here!
So, I was able to pick up a scanner today, which means I can now scan that which I scribble into my sketch pads.
After logging out of CoV last night, I picked up my sketch pad and started working on perfected my rendition of the human head. While I'm still short of perfection, I feel I got some good practice in and am getting a better understanding of forcing my hand and pencil to do my bidding.
This was me copying from one of the drawing books I have here. It was just one of those "Here's how you draw the head" bits, and so I followed step by step. Here's where I ended up:

Today, as I sat at work waiting for people to call in with Internet connection problems, I was staring at the CoH board madly refreshing in hopes that something new would appear. I realized that Statesman's head seemed like an interesting subject, and I tried my hand at that. I felt like his head seemed a little too long, and so I used Positron as my second subject. I think Positron turned out better than Statesman, though I'm not really happy with his antenna thingies.

Anyway, that's what I have so far. I think those two are an adequate representation of my current level of skill, at least as far as drawing heads goes. Between last week and last night, I can see a marked improvement in what I've drawn. Though I still have a ways to go, I'm actually quite enthusiastic and confident, and have a feeling that I'm actually going to be able to stick with it this time.
