WOW!

So wait... does that mean you go from redline sketch STRAIGHT to inks?!?

holy moly... that's amazing.

Yup. I ink the basic outlines and shapes first. Then go in with the details. A step I should have also added but...oh well.

Okay, so there IS an intermediate step of tighter pencils? Or not? Cause if there isn't, you're one crazy inking master. Well, I mean, you are anyway. Just, you know, moreso.

Are you doing this all on a tablet?

I did this up quick.

But basically I get my basic shape going and my outline. Then I add my details in. I do it a section at a time. from what you see in the link above I would then start adding my facial features, ink in my gloves/shoulder pads and get rid of any unwanted lines. THen move on to another section. Make sence ?

And currently I'm using my mouse Aaron.

You named your Mouse 'Aaron'?

Very nice inks. I've been known to go from rough to finals on most areas of the figure, but I generally like to do a very tight pencils on the face before I ink it (I have this bad habit of making my eyes too large).

Colors to come.

After two years of playing this game I think I finally found a hero I absolutly love.

WOW man. Nice costume. I really like designs like this. They really have a way of showing how Heroic a Hero can be. Kind of like Captain America. You look at him and know he is a HERO.

Just noticed this: Formerly known as Veikira
of course he is the man.

I absolutely love this

My sentiments exactly.

I have always been impressed with those that can "draw" with a mouse.

Amazing.

Wellll....it looks like he's using a method of inking similar to the method in the Farlow Studios tutorial, where you're not actually drawing, you're setting paths and letting the brush settings vary your line. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Tim.)That method is more "selecting the path" than it is "drawing" in the traditional sense. It's just as easy to do by mouse as by tablet.

This method is way to painstaking for me, personally, but it looks like Tim, unlike me, has patience to go along with his talent and skill.

What!? Not actually drawing? And it's just as easy with a tablet? Um, heh. No.

I dont use tutorials, never have.

I use my lasso by drawing a shape with it then filling it in with my brush. It's a lot of work, but it's something I found that gives me clean lines.

Posted

You fill shapes for the lines too? I think it's easier just to use stroke for the lines. Shapes are good for shadows. IMO

Every last line and shading is done with my lasso+brush. Aside from my initial sketch. I'm sure there are easier ways, but this is how I've been doing it.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Day-am, dude! You got a LOT more patience than I do, or will ever have. I'm gonna look at your work with a whole new appreciation for the craft you're utilizing - I just assumed you were drawing large size and scaling it down.

I can't even imagine selecting every single line, one at a time, and coloring it in.

Wow...

Heh. I didn't mean that you used the tutorial, just that it was the same method. But it looks like I was wrong, and you're actually far more insane than I was giving you credit for. And I, of course, mean that in the best possible way.
I stand corrected!

The method that Farlow uses might actually make your life easier and give you similar results. He draws a path and then strokes the path with the brush. The brush has Size Dynamics set to Fade, so that way each line thins out. He controls that by where he draws his path. The result is a pretty clean line with what sounds like less work than the way you do it. And it also is just as easy with a mouse than a pen, since you're more plotting your lines than drawing them. ::shrug:: You might want to consider it.

It's way too nitpicky for me. I realized long ago that "clean lines" isn't really where my style is, so I use my brush with Size Dynamics set for Pen Pressure and then I just freehand it. The lines can be really messy depending on how steady my hand is, but I prefer that style anyway.
