That's my guess. Boards and live servers seem a bit slower in general since closed beta started.
  2. Ninja Run and then beat feet outta there
  3. Nifty!

Do they mean all epic archetypes unlock now at 20? I suppose that'll be kind of cool for me red side since I don't have anyone over 25 there yet.

Great news though. My gimp computer can't handle Ultra mode but lots of other goodies on the way.
  4. I've shelved a couple characters waiting on GR (and the DP power set for my AR/Dark corrupter) but my playtime itself hasn't taken a hit. Got Rose Veldt up to level 40 last night
  5. I think they just need to get rid of those two female heads that are ultra-high contrast, really bright and ugly as sin. What's the story about those?

Oh, and a male face with an epicanthic fold that doesn't look distinctly Asian. There's a couple female faces under "Asian" that can pass as indigenous Americans (especially Pacific/Far northerners and South American natives) but none of the male faces can really pass as anything other than Asian.
  6. I personally like Striga, but then I like the Dr. Kahn Taskforce so maybe I'm not the best judge of these things.

Anyway, I feel like there's a couple crossed wires in this thread. Every MMORPG I can think of essentially has you beating up a group of guys, taking their stuff, getting experience and moving onto the next group of guys. That's just the nature of the beast. The main complaint (at least my main complaint and that of the article) is the scenery while you're beating up guys and taking their stuff. It's repetitive and often times nonsensical both in layout and in setting. The repetitive nature of it also makes the world seem very static. It's a shame to enter one of the Paragon City storefronts and find yourself in the same generic office building again.

I won't claim to know how much work would be involved, but a good smattering of additional tile sets and building themes would go a long way towards making Paragon City more than City of Generic Offices & Warehouses.
  7. Nice combination of the more canon-correct legs and the more "cartoony" looking arm.

As a result of this thread, I ran the Ouro mission last night and beat up Dr. Vahz for good times. With the Level+5 powers, I got to keep my stamina at lvl 19 so that handled the worst of the issues.

Shame no one ever does the arc any more (or so it seems). I remember back in the day, hanging out in Atlas and seeing the Infected heroes running by, covered in flies It was (is) really a distinctive arc.

I don't think every office building and warehouse from Atlas Park to Peregrine Island counts as a subdivision that we should expect them to look the same.

And let's talk about cities. Every time I visit them the streets and buildings are in the same place they were last time.
Who was complaining about the street layout?
  10. I actually liked the plaid but only as a one-off. If every time I saw a texture, it was done the same way, I'd probably react differently to it. But in that one picture, it kind of works.

If you're interested, feel free to use any of the characters in my sig links. But no pressure, I'm not expecting anything.

I stand by my bolero! Although, I suppose you could go purple-on-purple for the inside and then purple/gold on the outside where the only time you'll see it is when the white/gold is hidden. Just tried it now and I still like the gold but if someone thinks it's too busy, that might be the solution.

Also, just as a suggestion, the thigh-high witch boots might go well as a bottom for that outfit, since (I think) the tops of them will be hidden under the skirt.
Yeah, I'm not in love with either of my foot options but the heels seemed least offensive (if out of period). I tried the witch just now and I'm still skeptical:

Good idea, though. I'm just not sure if there's any foot options that fit well.
  13. Levels 6-20 feel like a chore to me because, if I want a travel power and stamina ASAP, then 5/8th of my power choices will be spent on boring utilitarian powers (yay... health) instead of sexy new attacks, controls, debuffs, etc. I've taken up using Ninja Run instead of a travel power which helps some but they're just not a lot of fun.

Add to it the Fed-Ex missions which make me want to just do police scanners rather than run three zones over to talk to someone and be sent three more zones over yonder. As a result, the early game mission arcs go largely unplayed by me which is kind of a shame. I haven't fought Dr. Vahz for years...
  14. Here's my take on a "classic" queen:

I'm a firm believer in the "Three Color" rule (a costume should have 3+ colors in it) and so went with gold, white and purple. Pieces should be pretty obvious: Elegant bolero, bridal skirt, dragon bracers (looked nicer than the "banded" bracelets and the bolero sleeves hide the martial arts design), Onomichi chest (which I thought had a nice design to it), formal hair, tiara, etc. I didn't play with facial scales although if I was making the character, I'd probably play with the cheek bones, chin, etc.

Unfortunately, the queens of our actual history didn't run around in mini-skirts so the lower legs and feet presented a challenge. The heels look nice, albeit plain compared to the rest of the outfit. The alternative has more design to it but looks like her legs are armored which doesn't fit the elegance of the upper costume. Looking at a couple pictures of various queens, the robes and gowns seemed to be all about the embroidery, hence the reliance upon the bolero/bridal patterns.

Oh, another option would be the Jester neck (under the Detail 2 head selector) for the Elizabethian ruffle look. I wasn't a fan of it but it's something to think about.

Really? The manual says to ignore the tutorial when it says "Be sure to use these inspirations!" and instead save them to sell at the market for influence so they can cut through a previously level locked Vanguard base, run through a lvl 40+ zone and buy a jet pack? Granted, I bought the game back when it came out so my manual is pretty outdated but I find this pretty surprising.

Or is it that "common sense" tells them they should do this? They should know to access the forums and ask about that jet packs that they don't know exist before playing? They should be using the broken Help channel that never tells them they have to type /hc?

Since getting a jetpack is so easy if you already know the tricks to doing it, what's the actual harm in starting inexperienced players with a fairly short duration pack and information on how to get another one? I mean, besides just "Oh, it's too easy"? You just get mad when inexperienced players don't have to waste their time getting the "so easy" pack from FBZ?

I find it bizarre that the standard line is "They don't need travel powers earlier because anyone can get a jet pack at level 1!" but then someone would act huffy that -- God forbid -- they get one without wasting a half hour or whatever jumping through hoops to do it. Either way, the result is the same: A lvl 1 had a jet pack. My way has them actually playing the game and having fun and helping ensure that even newer players know about the pack and how to get them, etc. Your way has them wasting time (provided they know about it) for... well, the exact same thing. Actually not even the exact same thing since I said a "one hour" pack and the FBZ one is two hours in duration. Weird. I could see if I was saying they should have a five hour pack or slottable travel powers or something but.. wow.

Edit: Out of curiousity, I downloaded the latest version of the manual. Not a single mention of scanners, bank missions or jet packs.
  16. The "nay" argument revolves around "You can just get a flight pack at level 1" and the "yay" argument revolves around "Inexperienced players are unaware that they should save the inspirations (they're told to use in the tutorial) to sell at the market and then trek across a lvl 40+ zone to reach a portal to another zone where they can use that influence to buy a jet pack before treking back again to the newbie zones and starting the game. Heck, they might not even know about the pack from the Atlas bank mission if they wind up following the contact chain to the Hollows or something."

So what if you just started the game (post-tutorial) with a 1 hour jet pack and a pop-up window saying, in effect, "Hey, here's a one hour jet pack. You can get a two hour jet pack by completing the Atlas Park bank mission between levels 5-10"?

    *Whip!* And one for you!
*Fling!* And a katana for you!
  18. I don't post artwork myself but when I watch/fav someone/thing, I personally don't expect a reply or feel upset if I don't get one.
  19. I'd be fine with opening travel power earlier. The span between lvl 6-20 is one of the least fun times for me because, assuming I want a travel power & stamina ASAP, 5/8ths of my power choices are dedicated towards those instead of the nifty attacks, controls, defenses, whatever that I picked my Primary/Secondary power sets for.

The only "silver lining" is that most new players don't know about stamina so they won't be taking that path. They'll just hurt for stamina instead.

Lately I've been doing a lot of Ninja Run which at least frees up a couple slots for fun archetype powers until I decide if I want a real travel power later in the game. I also get by with the various teleport powers (mission, Pocket D, etc), short cuts through Vanguard/Midnighter, etc. But that's not an option for a new player until they shell out extra cash or learn a lot more about the game.
  20. On Virtue:

    Defenders

    50 - Rad/Rad - Classic tights wearing superhero
47 - Trick Arrow/Archery - British equestrian "fox hunting" costume

    Blasters
37 - AR/Dev - Big game hunter, come to Paragon City to hunt the big game (i.e. Giant Monsters)
    22 - Sonic/Mental - Lounge Singer with experimental implant
4 - NRG/NRG - Classic "guy in tech suit" hero

    Scrappers
    16 - Fire/Shield - Steam/Clockwork armor from Middle Ages Spain
    10 - Katana/Fire - Vigilante nun with a (magical?) sword
    8 - Fire/Regen - Archangel Jophiel

    Controllers
    24 - Earth/Storm - Incan priestess frozen through time

    Brutes
    24 - Axe/Shield - Petty thief turned super-berserker via Soviet serum
    6 - Claws/Invul - Animated doll
2 - Dual Blade/Invul (?? Made ages ago and haven't touched yet) - Undead Chinese woman

    Corrupters
11 - AR/Dark - Fallen priest (future GR companion-story character to the above nun)

    Epics
4 - Peacebringer - Classic hero in futuristic looking tights

Hrm... no tanks in there (and a shortage of villains). Some of them are on hold for GR, a couple are just on the back burner while I concentrate on other characters and a couple are kind of just place-holding (liked the concept/name/costume, not so much the character).

Anyway, Rose Veldt did a Numina and thus completed Task Force Commander last night so I'm game for anything. There's a chance I might not be around though depending on the demands of the Mrs, so don't wait around for me.
  22. With targeting drone, what would folks recommend in regards to +ACC enhancements in the attack powers (slug, buckshot, etc)?

Also, it sounds as though I should take smoke grenade. I wasn't impressed with Flash Arrow on my TA/A Def so I passed on smoke grenade figuring it to be more of the same. People keep talking it up though.

At lvl 37, I have all of my primary powers and am missing taser, smoke grenade and gun drone from my secondary (also have fitness through stamina and Heal other/self from medicine). Not sure if I'll take gun drone yet. Also I'm not too impressed with ignite. It's served some situational uses but aside from dropping it on my feet to scare the melees away, I never use it much. Is there another method of attacking with it beyond webbing the guy down and setting him on fire?

Positron is dedicating himself more fully to developing "end game" content (for GR? For Paragon City? I dunno... probably sorta both). War Witch has taken his other duties as the lead designer.
  24. I'd love to see three major thing:
    (A) More outdoor maps. Enough said. Heck, make some outdoor maps that aren't located in Rhode Island; say that the helicopter is taking you to a Central American jungle or an ice floe north of Canada or something...

    (B) More styles of interior building. Not just offices but a few "museum" tilesets and logical maps. A hotel/apartment set where most of the doors are "closed" (painted like in the offices) but others are open to small apartment areas, kind of like the side rooms in the offices. Be great for "The building is on fire and full of Hellions... rescue the people!" style missions. A department store, a library... something that makes the city seem alive instead of the same generic office and warehouse over and over.

    (C) Each villain faction should have its own "base" maps. If you're stopping a robbery, then you're in the appropriate building. If you're chasing the Skulls to their hide-out to rescue Lucy Dreamtime, then it should look like a place the Skulls have been hanging out in. Even if it's largely a couple of re-skinned warehouse or office (like the "Rave" warehouse or the Hellions "hide out" office with the sprayapint and Satanic altars). Some factions have this to some extent such as the Crey "Tech" maps but what about the Tsoo? Carnival? Family (Do heroes even see the casino maps blueside)? Sky Raiders (no recycled Crey maps, please)? Etc.

As a minor note it'd be great -- and I know this won't happen -- if someone revisted some of the generic wall art for the maps. In the Vanguard base, next to the movie screen showing still images from the RWZ, is a whiteboard saying who has the highest sales for the month and the pithy quote about how sales happen. Are the Vanguard selling cookies in their off hours?

I don't see a problem. It sounds like the zone lines between North & West Karana for you old Everquest players. You'd be trotting along when *Zoning!*.

Most of EQ used the "bowl" approach to zones where you'd be funneled through a valley to an obvious zone line but the Karanas just overlapped part of the architecture and once you hit a spot, you zoned into the next section.
