Any mission where the objective surprise changes from "Click the glowie", "Defeat the Boss" or "Rescue the person" to "Hahahaha... I really meant Kill All" deserves to be punched in the neck.

Interesting but the character I have best suited for the concept is an alt. I know you bring it up in the application but how flexible are you on this? If I play my alt a few times a week? Once a week? Must be my main?

I'd like to know this as well. Not from a "This is hard" perspective, although it is annoying, but... what are those? I'm guessing it's not really a spa or a trout farm. Cooling tanks for the equipment? I hope that's not their drinking water with a werewolf sitting in the middle of it.

Yeah. When I was Googling around for costume idea, color came up a lot since there was commonly some sort of robes worn over the armor.
-
Here's Minaret who is actually 13th century Syrian but... hey, whatcha gonna do?
I tried several times to make a decent male Arabian costume last night in the classic style but the twin issues of "No head scarves" and "No robes" made it impossible for me to come up with anything decent. I could have worked around one or the other but having to fake both the head and body meant that my costumes always looked very non-Saharan. Maybe I'll give it another go today. -

Quote:Well, 100% of used needles are pointy so not getting stuck is pretty much luck. I wouldn't say that 100% of the user base is jerks. Or 50%. Or 10%. In fact, I remember the real noteworthy jerks primarily because they stand out, not because they're the norm.I may not get stuck by used needles 100% of the time I stick my hand in a box marked "sharps" either.
Anyway, I've noticed a lot more blind SG invites lately. I don't know if it's because returning players are looking to fluff up their long abandoned SGs or what. For the last couple nights, I've gotten a blind invite from a team member nightly although none have copped an attitude when I declined it. Had they actually asked first and gave any hint what their SG was about (even "we just like to have fun") I may have been amendable to joining. -
With all respect to David but he could have answered a couple questions better (assuming he wasn't edited). He makes it sound as though the AE Tickets are only good for unlocking for content rather than being primarily used to buy enhancements, salvage and recipes. He also says...
Quote:...when that's obviously not a problem with the AE system that'll level adjust you for any of its content if you need adjusting.Once a Guest Author writes a mission for Mission Architect, its always there. So players never have to worry about missing out on Scott Kurtzs great arc, or Bills, or Mercedes. As long as players are within the appropriate level range of the arc, they can play it.
I suppose I'm sounding nit-picky but I always hope to see CoH presented in the best possible, and accurate, light. -
The free month people got with Going Rogue has been expiring and the servers reflect it. No, they're not dead and the game isn't dying but there's more green dots showing during off peak times when they used to all be yellow or red 24/7. With stamina issues having long been a problem for newer players (particularly those who don't read forums or guides to learn about Fitness), it would probably benefit Paragon Studios to enhance the playing experience sooner rather than later (read: after another billing cycle).

With only Shield Rush and having just gotten Whirling Mace, I guess I'll have to wait a bit to be an AoE machine but it's nice to know I won't be sitting at lvl 40 bopping single targets one after the other.
Semi-related question, how does splash aggro work with AoEs? Does each individual hit lend aggro to the neighboring mobs even if they're also getting hit or does it only splash onto nearby mobs who are out of the AoE range? More a question of curiosity than anything. -
I realize that tanks aren't the "best" soloing archetype but sometimes circumstances call for it (limited time, no luck getting a team, chasing your own goals, etc).
I've gotten my Shield/WM tank up to level 28 which is about 20 levels higher than I've taken a tank before. But I'm not quite sure yet how to set my soloing team size. With my blaster, it was -1/x4 or x6 with heavy AoE mowing everyone down. With my controller, it was -1/x0 because of her horrible kill rate until 32 then I started bumping up the crowd sizes. Scrappers and brutes famously run at max or near max settings. But what about my tank?
Right now I'm at +1/x0, with +1 mobs taking about the same time to kill at +0 mobs for slightly better rewards. Jacking up the mob density, I'm worried that (A) it'll take forever to clear a spawn, (B) I'm more likely to get chipped down while doing so and (C) running out of endurance before I can take them all. I know things change as I gain more levels but I'm looking for experiences, insights and potential advice about what to expect the tank soloing experience to be like in the weeks ahead. -
It's the alien face, Masks With Hair, black skin color with a white mask (forgot exactly which one).

Yeah, I like it on some of my older characters as an occasional boost when fighting robots with S/L and events like that. Sands of Mu'ing a Zenith bot in the face can take it down a lot quicker than clanging on it with your sword.
I give it to all my characters and some grow out of it and some keep it around. -
The Perplex pattern is another one. A bright green or blue pattern against a black base gives a neon effect.

A Mary Sue is made as such by their collected traits. Pointing out that others share this trait or that trait doesn't make the subject not a Mary Sue, it just means that others might have some of the same qualities. You wouldn't argue that tigers are not felines by pointing out that dogs have four legs and rabbits have fur and piranha eat meat.
I usually see a Mary Sue type as being a wish fulfillment projection of the author and since I don't know who was behind Ghost Widow, it's hard to say. -

Quote:I don't see where assuming you're sword slashing hydraulics or tearing out wires is a different "amplification" than imaging giant towering infernos that don't exist but that's just me. Just as the game says you're kicking the robot in the toe, it also says you're shooting little poofs of fire. I wouldn't assume you're luring things into mine shafts but I think there's a middle ground between that and "stand in one spot and mechanically punch it in the knee until it's dead". But if you don't enjoy imagining that, I guess there's no harm done since you can always play more fantastic origins.I realise I could re-imagine this as my character finding a weakness and disabling it, as climbing it or even as something more extreme, such as luring it into a trap where it falls through the ground and into mine shaft or some such. I could, but... When I can't SEE it, it's just beyond my willingness to want to bother. As such, I simply never write characters who would HAVE to resort to something like this.
[...]
In my head, I will always exaggerate the effect powers have, such as Inferno not having an effect that you can barely frikkin' see, but rather producing the kind of towering fireball that would catch your attention on the other side of a big city and make you go "Holy ****!" But that's still taking what a power IS and amplifying it. -
Quote:Well, we do have traps & devices. This is where someone would bring up Batman and them be reminded by someone else that Batman uses a lot of gadgets to deal with superpowered types.
In comic terms, I would assume the "natural" hero would take down a Warwalker through either devices or through actions beyond the game such as the ever famous "jump on the robot, punch through access panel and tear out wires until something breaks" maneuver. In a game where we accept that we "arrest" criminals by setting them on fire or irradiating them (or "save" an office building with multiple applications of fires, floods, ice & earthquakes), I think we can make allowances in the other direction. Sadly, unlike potentially making new DP animations, making "jump on robot and tear out hydraulics" animations isn't especially practical but I don't think that's cause to dismiss the origin. -
Lady Jane is trapped in an airtight box with only three minutes left
Hero: Go watch TV
Vigilante: Go watch TV
Rogue: Cook a burrito, go watch TV
Villain: Go watch Lady Jane -
I'm personally more a fan of cinematic film "big explosions" than the anime stuff being described here. I don't need to feel like my attacks are Final Fantasy cutscreens, but some more flash would be nice.
I think there should be a distinction (at least an option for one) between the sort of superhero "boom" you get from being able to shoot fireballs from your hands versus firing a couple revolvers. Part of the fun, for me, behind the "real weapon" power sets is the concept competing via skill and tenacity with a sword, gun or mace in a superpowered world of people who can call down fire from the heavens. I realize that for gameplay purposes they have to be close in numbers but making my pistol fire or axe swinging equivilent in flash to the guy who fires blasts of mutant neutron energy from his fists takes away from the concept.
So I'm all in favor of flashy effects but think some effects should be flashier (by option) than others. -

Quote:Bullets aren't connected to the machine gun but Cyclops' blasts are shown as a continual beam. And pointing a fire hose at a wall will absolutely cause pressure to force the nozzle (i.e. his head) backwards.Logical. For example, if you fire a machine gun at an object that's too hard for the rounds to penetrate it sends the machine gun flying backwards. Same thing that happens if you accidentally direct a fire hose at a wall instead of the window: the whole truck gets pushed away.
I could be missing details about Cyclops but you picked a couple really bad examples for making your point. -
Quote:But I'm already "super" in that I can fall off skyscrapers without being turned into a red stain, I can be shot in the face by shotgun-wielding Hellions, battle extradimensional demons, stand next to suicide bombing zombies and survive, run at 16mph without trying, jump eight feet into the air without effort, etc.I think it was SexyJay that said it in one of the GR ViDocs, but in this game you don't just make a lumberjack, you make a Super Lumberjack.
I can play a "super" lumberjack and cleave straight through a steel constructed, machine gun firing and giant blade swinging Nazi robot with a logging axe so why does it have to extend to me first hopping around, spinning the axe over my head, pirouetting and then hitting the robot with the axe (to compare to DP animations)? Was I previously not "super" enough and goofy animations made me more so? My super lumberjack isn't super unless he's a super ballerina-lumberjack? Because that really detracts from "Super Lumberjack" fun in my book.
You can also have someone be "super" and not be a gun-ninja. Maybe my character is an Empath who has healing super powers but carries a gun because it's hard to heal someone to death when attacked? Or maybe my character's "superness" comes from their ability to protect themselves via powers or technology as they stand there and lay down the bullets. Saying "Well, you're super" is a pretty limiting excuse for what should be a very creative game. -
Quote:That's it for me as well. I have a hard time getting anything started in the D because all the tiny little personal canons just seem overwhelming. Also, roleplaying dating or deep personal drama doesn't really interest me much these days but that seems to be what goes on when you're all just standing around. I suppose I'd really rather RP-along on some missions where you're doing something besides staring at one another doing the drink emote but that doesn't seem to happen much.My weaknes is me having trouble intigrating characters into RP. I have trouble meeting other RPers and BEGINNING something. If they, my characters, are locked together in an RP already, I'm fine, but getting the ball rolling is very difficult for me, no matter the character.
Edit: I posted this without reading the rest of the thread and it seems I'm not alone in my opinion but didn't mean to repeat what others were saying already.
