Quote:They started that nonsense in the doppleganger/clone arcs and I have absolutely no use for it at all. It doesn't make me feel as though there's an assistant on the map, it just feels like there's some orange cluttering text in my objective bar. If there was a computer controlled NPC on the map moving about and doing his/her objectives then maybe it'd mean something. Otherwise, just tell me what I need to know ("Ok, head to the second floor") without that "Unlock the second floor elevator (SomeoneElse's Objective)" garbage.Roy's objectives? What are they? Are they optional? (ie, something Roy would LIKE me to do for his cause but I can choose not to if it doesn't suit My goals?) or are they something that HE has to do himself? (in which case, why are they showing up for me?).
On the plus side, I took my KM/SR scrapper through and he made me feel happy by shrugging off those glue traps and plowing through the rogue PPD. -
Fighting pool was added with inherent fitness. Weave gives an extra 6.8% as slotted for a total of 37% Ranged (not that it matters but I was guessing 35% and just checked to see what it really was).
I'll admit that I hate the look of most of the the APP epic shields although I haven't looked at the PPP ones. Maybe I'll look at Primal or Psionic. I suppose I could go for one of the +Res shields; I don't see the point in a typed defense shield without building with an eye towards that instead. Consume has been very handy when I've had need to use it. I could be talked out of it for something better without much convincing. When it's golden, it's golden but it's rather situational.
Guides and previous conversations before said that Steamy Mist was good to slot with just an EndRx or two. How would you slot it?
I don't really have any problem keeping mobs locked down and the bulk of my powers are slotted for that power's primary function (holds, slows, stuns, debuffs, etc) so where do you think I'm failing at being built for a controller? I'm legitimately curious.
It doesn't show, but my Alpha slot is the 33% Recharge/Stun. -
To celebrate the Sentinel exporter working with Mids now, I can show off my Earth/Storm build and see if anyone has some tips or ideas for fine tuning. I've tried to strike a balance between keeping my utility and raising up Ranged Defense (with hurricane solving the melee defense issue when needed). With my toggles on, my ranged defense is around 35%. My only purples are the Gravitation Anchor set and that's only because I actually had three of them drop for me and figured it was fate that I should buy the other two. There's a couple SOs in there I just never switched to IOs and my plan is to plug a LoTG +7.5 into combat jumping.
If you see anything really bizarre, feel free to ask about it. I almost certainly have a reason for it although it might not be a very good reason under examination. Thanks.

I wish I had Handsome Appearance Super Power
Even better is up in the upper right corner. Super Assembled! -
Quote:The only thing I'd strike is the bit about squaring your shoulders, etc. That seems to be a collection of assumptions (action, motive and the 'squared shoulders' bit sounds masculine even if not intended) which give it more issues than I'd want to keep. How would YOU rewrite the following descriptive text to make it 'acceptable'? There is no right or wrong answer here, FYI.
"You cautiously enter the warehouse by an alleyside door, away from potential prying eyes. The acrid scent of Superadine taints the air, marking this warehouse as being the right one."
"Pushing open the rusted gate, you enter the cemetery and glance around. The sound of the wind in the trees almost seems like whispering voices, but you are unable to make out the words."
"A cry echoes from an office floor above you, before it's abruptly choked off. Somewhere in here is a child that needs your help... you square your shoulders and stalk toward the stairs, intent on bringing the kidnappers to justice."
The rest of them are fine. -

I'm deleting this just because it doesn't really matter. I personally think it's silly to complain about "Chilled" and then say "You should say 'It's cold' but that's only player knowledge!"
On the other hand, not getting worked up over that stuff only benefits me and if anyone else wants to get worked up by it, well, that's upon them to decide if it's worth it or not. Either way, it's off track for the OP. -
Quote:Who cares? It's my character. If I want to make a character who is deaf, blind, mute, unable to understand any sensory input at all and is dumb as a sack of mulch then that's my choice, right? If your robot can't determine basic things about the world based on whatever evidence is at hand, how does he navigate? How did he earn his hero license?
The thing is, if I made such a character, I wouldn't get myself wadded up over someone saying "It's cold" or "You're chilled" because I wouldn't expect people (Devs or players) to author their arcs to fit my extraordinarily dense character's foibles. I would expect them to author their arcs to fit a majority of the characters who'll run it and anyone who deviates that much from the norm can work out for themselves how their character fits.
I'm not arguing against saying "It's cold", I'm saying that getting worked up over flavor text is a waste of time. Ironically (heh) you seem to already understand that as you said you readily ignore chunks of flavor text that don't apply to your character. -
Again, you're happily hijacking my character concept and telling me how he must be run to fit your own conceits. If you really have to argue with me and insist that my character must be played how you see fit or else it's just "silly" or I'm otherwise not playing him right, I have to wonder why you feel fit to complain about running hands through hair as though you're being put upon.
-
Quote:I'm stating that it's MY CHOICE if my robot can determine cold or not.So you are saying there is one way -- and one way only -- for someone to determine whether or not a place is cold? Yeah, that's what we call "silly."
Are you seriously arguing that it's wrong to say that I'm chilled but that you can decide that my robot MUST have some way of determining cold or else it's just "silly"? You don't see the hypocrisy in that? -
Quote:But ultimately I'm supposed to be the one who can say whether or not my robot knows if it's cold or not, right? Telling me that it's cold is making an assumption about my character."Cold" is a physical state that alters the way the world works, so it helps to be aware of that in some way. If not direct temperature sensing then visually or whatever area-sensing utility the machine has.
And no, I don't buy the "It's only player knowledge" cop-out. There is zero reason for me as a player to have information about the room temperature that my character does not have. Imaginary room temperatures have no impact on game play (or "the way the world works") so the only reason to bring it up is to relate it to my character.
I do find it amusing that people are arguing so hard to insist that it's okay to tell me that my character can tell that it's cold but it's not okay to say I feel chilled. -
Earth/Storm/Fire -- She kept taking down my earth elemental but I kept her locked in place with Stone Cage(s) and let my Lightning Storms and Tornadoes grind her down. Popped off my Blackwand and Fireball from time to time to help out.
-
Quote:The stuff in those little boxes is character knowledge. If you're using that little box to tell me that it's cold, you're saying that my character is aware of this fact. If you want this to be player knowledge only, find a way to make that clear because those little boxes aren't the way.It implies nothing of the sort. It is simply a statement about the world. As Shatterjack notes, it is player knowledge.
Quote:large assumptions like whether or not my character can be usefully cloned are far less forgivable.
None of my characters fit a mold of someone who would want to run a cloning facility but I can set that aside because that's what the arc is about. If it got that deep in my craw, I'd just abandon the arc and find something else to do. -
Quote:It implies that I can tell that it's cold. Otherwise I wouldn't have that information. It is making assumptions about my character. The difference you're missing is that in the context of this game, "it's cold in here" does not imply "you feel that it's cold".
To restate, I don't actually care if someone makes assumptions about my character. I would personally rather that they make assumptions that will almost always be accurate (i.e. I can feel chilled) than have to read through a bunch of sterile, carefully chosen words designed to make sure some slim minority doesn't feel put upon in some minor way. I just find it arbitrary to say that feeling chilled is "wrong" but making the assumptions to tell me that I can tell it's cold is "okay". -
Quote:Nonsense. Complaining "My robot can't feel chilled" is exactly the same as "My robot can't tell it's cold". In both instances, the author is making assumptions about my character. Either it's okay to make those assumptions or it isn't. Personally, I think it's fine because in most cases those assumptions will be accurate and trying to sterilize your writing for the slim minority means that everyone has to suffer through an arc devoid of any flavor just to keep a couple robot-playing people from complaining.Conversely, the GM/author does get to describe the world, and trying to equate the former with "my character can't feel temperature/is color-blind/etc." is just being a horse's patootie.
Saying that "Chilled" is wrong and "Cold" isn't is completely arbitrary. You're still "hijacking my private concept" when you tell me that my non-temperature sensing robot somehow knows that it's cold despite not having the ability to know that information. -
Quote:But MY robot doesn't have temperature sensors and doesn't know that it's cold. Why are you ruining my immersion by telling me things my robot could never know? Both the devs and AE authors do this, and there is no reason for it, and it ticks me off. Why do you have to write "you feel a chill?" I'm a robot, I don't feel chills. Why not write "it's cold in here?"
Or you could just write in a way that works for 95% of the characters and let the outliers deal with it however they want rather than writing in the most sterile way possible. -
Wound up jousting her on my Shield/War Mace tank. Was sort of annoying but less annoying than dying would have been. I had pulled her onto the catwalks and just zipped back and forth past her, smacking her upside the head each time while avoiding the worst of the stacking debuffs.
My Ninja/Dark MM just sent in the pets and watched them tear her apart. -
The problem with overhyped sets is that now I feel "bad"* for making an Elec/SD scrapper the other night. I just thought Electric Melee fit her concept and Shield gave me a nice place to stick a costume emblem. I didn't know it was a dirty overhyped FOTM build, I swear!
*Ok, not too bad. I still intend on playing her. -
Quote:I have a feeling (and it's only that) that future issues will bring out Incarnate arcs and solo missions that offer greater rewards in the form of shards and components. Making an uncommon purely from shards already takes something like 32 (?) shards and so, if the developers intend to allow people to solo their way to rares and ultra-rares as a viable path, they're going to need solo content that provides greater rewards than "One shard every couple missions". I'm envisioning contacts who don't talk to you until you have your Incarnate unlocked (or maybe even not until you have a particular tier slotted) and difficult missions with either a greater drop rate or else component rewards in lieu of merits at the completion of the arc. You might even see repeatable missions such as the Maria Jenkins one-off AV fights that give greater drop rates or even a guaranteed common shard at the end just to keep a solo path to ultra-rares open.
Right now, the simple answer to that is Tin Mage and Apex. But those are TFs. What ELSE? This is my question, and my fear is that the answer will be "more TFs."
And, with the examples of recent arcs behind us, I could still see those solo arcs being pretty cool and epic. -
I ran the final mission with my Mastermind and, while my bots didn't die instantly, the whole thing was essentially me standing around and resummoning my pets every couple minutes. It very quickly became very tedious and not at all what the intent was (to make me feel super-awesome-invincible-powered). Instead I just felt bored.
-
Depends on the sin. The sin of making me go through a 2 hour TF to fight a normal lookin' purple con mob is boring indeed
-
I think part of why I dislike running the Freedom Phalanx TF's is because they pretty much do end with you fighting "purple con normal mob". No real big exciting fights, just "Here's a Freakshow mob... oh, except it cons purple. And here's a Crey guy in a suit. He cons purple, too".
Compared to later TFs and even later solo arc content, they're boring as sin. -
