I can never get these to work. The only ones that work for me are the animated gifs that also make me kinda motion sick. But, well, I made one to demonstrate using your cup. It would work better if the pictures lined up better, but that's forgivable since you are not a tripod. Anyway, here's like what I mean. Hopefully it doesn't give anyone a seizure...

Quote:Thanks for the summary, Von Krieger. Why are people in Paragon City over 6 feet tall? "Lots of beef."
As for this quote, there could actually be a plausible pseudo-scientific reason for this. Something along the lines of Island Dwarfism, working in reverse. You see, the early human known affectionately as the Hobbit was short due to living on an island where they had no worry of large predators, so they never grew large. So in a city that has always been an epicenter of crazy **** going down, perhaps the people evolve to be large. (I realize that evolution doesn't exactly work on a city-by-city basis, hence why it's a "plausible pseudo-scientific reason"). -
Organica covered things pretty well. I'll point out that those links she's got there, to paragonwiki, that's a damn good place there. ParagonWiki will be your friend if you want to learn the ins and outs of what's happened in your leave.
And on that note, I find this thread title highly amusing given your forum handle. I was quite tempted to come in and post a picture of a bottle of Listerine. But that's no way to welcome someone back, even if they are named after the dreaded gum disease.
Anyway, welcome back and enjoy learning all the new stuff. It's pretty fun. -
Just be careful, you don't want to mix the two and wind up traveling through time unintentionally.

I like this thread. It's neat to see what other people have done with their names.
Personally, I had a sort of identity disorder it would seem. I started out as @Unstable and unstable on the forums. There was another player who had a character named Unstable Ion and was known by that monicker even though his global was something else. I was frequently thought to be him by others. It was mildly annoying but I dealt with it. Then one day he decided to use his global rename token and changed his global to @Unstable Ion. The confusion became greater and since I wasn't actually very attached to the name @Unstable, I changed it to @Onuris and was happy with that for a while.
Eventually I got a second account and rather than name it @Onuris2, I chose to name it @Johnstone in honor of my heritage as Johnstone is my ancestral Scottish clan name. So for a while I was @Onuris and @Johnstone. And not many people realized that I was the two people and it led to confusion. Again with the confusion. And meanwhile I was still going by unstable on the forums since Onuris was apparently taken when I tried to change it back then.
So then they gave out a global rename token one of those times the servers went silly. So I changed my second account to @Johnstone 2 and then changed my primary account to @Johnstone. And then changed my forum handle as well. Now I only cause confusion when people who had taken to addressing me as Onu continue to do so in the presence of new acquaintances.
As for character names, I have been mostly happy with all of mine. I did end up spending money on one rename though. Some of my characters were originally created as people who were thrust into the life of heroics and took to it, but didn't really change very much. One such character was Rebecca Johnstone, an Invulnerability/SuperStrength Tanker. Her story had her as a young woman granted gifts by the Fae to help her discover what happened and get revenge after her parents' untimely death. Long after she hit 50, she sat unplayed for a very long time. One day I dusted her off and pieced together a somewhat respectable build for her. That build ended up leading to me enjoying playing her much more than I ever had and she slowly became my main. She became my first Incarnate, with a fully slotted Alpha slot. At this point, she was so much more than some girl looking for answers; she had become a true hero. To reflect this, I decided that she was deserving of a more heroic sounding name. After thinking on it for a while, I renamed her to Becca Blue. Becca as it is her preferred nickname, and Blue as in "true blue", and both in conjunction because consonance caters to cool sounding call-signs. I am quite pleased with her new name, despite the fact that one person suggested that it sounds like a porn star's name a minute after I mentioned the change in the global channel in which I am most vocal (not literally of course, I suppose it would actually be the channel in which I am most digital since it is my fingers doing the "talking")..
Well, that ended up being rather long for being a "quick reply"...
And an edit to boot. I had forgotten about the gender thing being mentioned. When I started playing, and had the androgynous global name of @unstable I never made it a point to state my gender when playing any of my characters. About half were male and half female. I tended to play the female characters more since I enjoyed their powersets more than the early male characters I made. After a while, it was sort of assumed by many people that I played with that I was a female in real life. I'm not sure what the Guardian channel thought of me back then. When I changed the global to Onuris, I think some people caught on. And by now I think everyone in-game knows that I am male. Everyone on the forums should have realized I'm male by my forum avatar as it is an old self portrait (not that all avatars are to be trusted, but an actual picture of a guy that isn't famous typically means it can be).
Also on the topic of gender, two of the guys that I started playing the game with had very feminine global names and seemed to enjoy acting the part. I realize that by not correcting anyone when they assumed my gender based on the character I played I was "tricking" people, but I wasn't giggling and sending smiley faces to random guys.
And also, yeah, I've totally been pronouncing RedLynne wrong. Been pronouncing Damz wrong as well; I didn't read it as Damnz or Damez, I read it as Dahmz. As for Yydr, I read it as Yiddeer. -
Quote:Another option could be StJ/Regen. Regen *is* getting a bit of buffage in i21. I'm actually running a StJ/Regen through Maria Jenkins' arc right now on Beta and totally kicking ***. Granted, I'm not doing AVs, but she's handling +2/x2 mishes with no problems. Against all of the EBs so far, the most I've had to do defensively is pop Dull Pain. No need to activate IH, or MoG, or even Reconstruction yet. That's a Stj/Regen Brute btw. So happy regen got ported to Brutes.I'm thinking Street Justice could actually be a really good fit. I like your thought process, John. I already have a level 50 Shield Scrapper, though, so I don't know if I want to level another one up. I like the idea of zipping around the battlefield with Elec Armor, so maybe I'll try that out. Still, the shields a possibility. Thanks a lot for the help guys. I have a much clearer picture of where I want this character heading.
I wouldn't say no outright to Electric Armor as it's a good set itself, but I don't really feel it for this particular character. He doesn't quite have that spark. -
I think Street Justice would be a much better fit than Kin Melee. Kin Melee is too focused looking to me to portray speeding around the battlefield. Street Justice is fast, hard-hitting, and looks great with a shield.

The one with all the stuff on the sides. Dear god no.
Overall; Why is everything red? Also, why reinvent the wheel? I would imagine that a modified in-game HUD would work fine for conveying this type of thing. -
Quote:Like some sort of Convergence...Due to hints from Darrin Wade, and others (ouro, Midnighter's etc) the coming storm seems like a mass of different 'Big Bads' coming together. The shard, and everything evil about that (remember, they did invade us once.. we just kinda forget about it on most days of the week) the Rikti, and/or Battilion, and Shiva. All of those coming together, for one big massive invasion would be devastating, especially when you consider Praetoria and Cole adding his kool-aid into the mix.

Quote:It would get extremely boring to actually play. I already have builds that are incredibly strong due to how I managed them. If I could 6-slot everything in my inv/ss Tanker's build, she'd likely go from being able to solo +4/x8 Malta to being able to solo iTrials. There would be no challenge at all anymore. No challenge to get the best build possible because you can just 6-slot everything and no challenge at all to any of the game-play.William's comment about it being "overpowered" makes me think that that is a PvP argument and is not a valid arguement for the PvE game.
I believe that the current level of power is appropriate. A couple extra slots might be acceptable, but enough to 6-slot everything would be ridiculous. -

Quote:This is why I keep a paragon wiki user page. Sadly, I forget to update it most times I create a new character on one of those other servers and then I don't remember what they are to take note of it on Pwiki. The same thing would probably happen if we had notes on the character select tbh. But that's me, I'm sure others would remember to put notes on their characters. Not sure if this has been suggested before but I got this idea where we could add notes to our characters in the character select screen. I find that I have so many alts that sometimes I don't even know why I kept them. If I could add notes to my characters it would help organization and would help me keep track of my altitis. For example, I'm saving one of my level 10 alts and to remind myself I would add a note saying "Waiting to re-roll with Street Justice."
It could simply be a small + sign next to each name that would expand into a text box when clicked. I'm not sure that there would be an overwhelming demand for this but I thought I might as well suggest it.
But yeah, I'd like this feature. I'd like it even if the only change was that we could see the character's powersets (primary and secondary only) on the selection screen. I have a lot of characters that I'm not sure if I want to play heh. -
Quote:Prestige Power Slide was my favorite mode of travel when I first started out. There's something awesome about sliding along and looking like you're not expending any energy to do so. For me, I'd rather see more than just ice-themed sliding added. If we could get a purchasable version of Prestige Power Slide that had various elemental effects (earth/stone, fire, wind/vortex/cloud, dark, etc.); I'd buy most of them. And if we can get custom coloring on them too; well, I'd nerdgasm. That's one reason I stopped using PPS so much, the color of the glow on it just never matches anything I make. This is a good summary of what I'll taking away from this thread. You guys clearly want more flying devices; vehicles (esp. motorcycles) would be a welcome addition; and elemental (esp. ice)-themed travel is definitely on many of your short-lists. That last one's fascinating to me--I would've thought a specific elemental power like that would be more niche, but if forum tastes are anything to go by, it's more than that.
That's what I'm here to find out though, so thanks for the insight. -
I am confused. My CoH folder is 5.63 gigs. My beta folder is 3.73 gigs.

Well, I saw one person diss her, and one person sort of defend her, and everyone else doesn't bother to mention her at all. Anyway, Clamor is my favorite AV. She works great as a Freak leader.

Quote:win.only ever had someone ask a/s/l one time. It was during a visit to virtue server earlier this year and i was on a female character which is kind of a rarity for me. This is mostly from memory. Name has been changed to protect the idiot.
Ifail: Hey you look pretty nice.
Me: Thanks i worked for a while on this costume.
Ifail: A/s/l?
Me: Derivative of 26x+105 / xy / 36.438664 -116.872627
ifail: Xy? Are you sure not xxx?
Me: ...
Ifail: Wanna cyber?
Me: No i prefer my sexual encounters face to face. I gave you my location in gps coordinates. Just plug them into a gps and follow the route it gives you. I'll be waiting. This time i think i'll wear the french maid outfit.
Ifail: Holy **** ive got to go to the store.
About 30 minutes later...
Ifail: Wt* it says your in the middle of death valley
me: You just wasted money on a gps didn't you?
Ifail: Long string of expletives deleted
me: Let me spell it out for you derivative of 26x + 105 is 26 years old, xy is my chromosomes guys have a y chromosome, and as you just found out the coordinates i gave you are in death valley. You could have figured this out if you weren't typing with one hand.
Ifail: Another long string of expletives followed by "you owe me the money i spent on this gps"
me: No i don't. You just paid a stupid tax because you didn't take the time to figure out if i was being truthful about my location to a random stranger on the internet. Also i wasn't truthful about the french maid outfit. Its actually an oscar the grouch costume.
Ifail: Wut?
Me: Exactly.

Quote:No. I was not referring to him using 's' in organisation. I was referring to the "by a group individuals". He appears to have accidentally a word.If you are referring to his spelling of "organization," it is not a typo. If I am not mistaken, OminousVoice is from "the other side of the pond," and in much of Europe (the British Isles especially), the "z" sound in a word like "organization" is actually spelled with an "s."

Original Cyn would be my suggestion on a name.
As for a costume, I really have no idea. You haven't provided any real details about personality traits, and the character seems like she would be more influenced by her personality than by her powers. -
Quote:Actually, I think a better thread to ask about it would be http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=3765685 or http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=3764747Unsure what you're asking, but you may wish to look at this thread:

I don't think OP is asking for art, just a plainclothes costume idea for Overdrive, the NPC Hero that shows up in Tips and Mayhems and such. -
Never bothered me at all, but I'd sign for this. Sounds like a good write-up for 'em too (has about the right amount of typoes for in-game text too hehe).

First off, great teaser vid. Loved the scenarios.
Quote:And this gave me a wild idea. Let me set this up for you... Ok, so, we have branching dialogue and decisions and such that can affect what happens in the game. And we have the ability to have certain NPCs only show up to certain people (aka the ones you kill or let get killed in Praetoria)... What if who dies was determined by how you ran the story arcs? Granted, they'd probably limit it to 2 or 3 possibles so as not to make a huge headache for the writers in the future. And even this would probably end up being a huge headache to deal with later. But it would be kinda awesome. And it'd freak everyone out when the forums get word of who died from the early birds and it's conflicting stories but both verifiable as true.I go back to Matt in the Ustream from SDCC, calling it a murder mystery and commenting about the player having to decide their part or their feelings about the whole business.
I think they know full well who is going to die and how. I have a feeling that it will be early in the story as a catalyst to the full plot, not the climax of the story.
