and Argh! the head! I tried to get looking up at this head from lower perspective - so you're seeing the underside of his chin and nose. and didn't pull it off at all. I need ot back up and strip the costume off and do some careful reconstruction of the forms - with all the helpful comments, before i revisit the costume and lighting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a tricky angle to do considering his mask. If his nose wasn't so hidden by his mask it would make it more apparent that that's what you were going for. I think if you are going to go with that angle though, the forehead and hair need to taper in more as otherwise it sort of looks like his forehead is jutting out rather far (maxed brow slider?) if you look at it considering that his head should be viewed from the lower angle. I think that the chin angle is good but the upper part of his mask could be rotated a bit counter-clockwise(clockwise for the image on the right) to sort of line things up better. The right side of his face/forehead is fine, but the shape of his forehead on the left seems off for that angle.

Meanwhile, it's a hell of a lot better than what I could do and I applaud your work so far. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I think I like fat Dr. Spider over the muscle version.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm with you on that one as well. The muscled ones by Brandon and Alex look good, but there's just a different feel to the "chubby" ones that really makes the character imo.

Seconded, I really wanna know too.

    Drawing Toons

I thank you as well. That'll be helpful to me too.
  6. Figured since others are sharing their funky characters, I'd share one of mine. This is The Untroller. He's a controller, but refuses to conform to the role. He's Mind Control/Trick Arrow, with Air Sup, Boxing, etc. (not too many of them now since he's only level 9 even though he's been around for 2 years), so he acts more like a scrapper (who always crits lol) than a controller.

    Untroller shot 1
    Untroller shot 2

He's a bit less funk and a bit more "one bad mutha" but I think he'd get along well with the others presented here lol.

Here are a couple I like:

    pitcher1

    pitcher2

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmmm...where's the hoodie and the domino mask?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Fixt >.>

Was gonna try the other pitcher too, but it woulda been harder to make a hoodie look good on it lol.

Anyway, I went to my local comic shop and they hadn't ordered any copies of Twilight Guardian so I made sure that he would. Looks like I get to wait two weeks til I get to read the whole story.
  8. Just read the 5 page teaser, I definitely am gonna go pick up a copy. I doubt I'll do any fanart for you since my art isn't exactly exposure worthy yet (maybe in the future once I get better and it would do me good to have my work out there). But the comic is great and I must read it.

Maybe some day they'll ad loin cloths to the costume sets.

I wanna know whose behind I have to kiss in order to get Egyptian/Babylonian kilts I mean, can they be that difficult to add?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm with you on that one, seriously need some Egyptian style kilts (and shoulder/neck options would be good too). Hell, find out who it is and we can go tag-team their behind. lol

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would be Sexy Jay, though the Egyptian "kilt" have been suggested a few times ....

    [/ QUOTE ]

He won't get them in the game, he's just in charge of making them. The roman armor has been made since around i9 I think, and that just went in. Egyptian kilts could be made already but someone is keeping them from us if they are. We wanna find this person and mai.... I mean... uh... kiss their behind, yeah, totally not maim them, that would be wrong.

    What do you.....

    [ QUOTE ]
I always just wanted to draw action, or monsters and bewbs ( and still do lulz) until someone pointed out to me a great trick: Instead of drawing "a hand" or "a gun" try to draw the space and shape an object occupies.

That really got me thinking less about subject matter and more about capturing life itself, which is essentially what we're all trying to do as artists: create the illusion of life.

At least thats really become my goal lately.

I hope this helps - best of luck

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's gonna help me at least, I know that much. It's an interesting way to look at things. Definitely gonna have to try it out.
  12. Nice, I like how that chest detail works with the chest pattern. Everything else on it looks great too, but the chest detail struck me for some reason.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Wow. The torso from just below the collarbone down through the lower hips is incredible. The subtle twist and contortion of the waist combined with a supple rounded female thigh is super-believable.

The arms to the shoulder, the legs from the feet to the knees, and the head seem flatter and less-realized in comparison. The effect is almost like a classic Escher print where 2-d animals start pulling out of a page into a full 3-d form. The result here gives a bit of a chuckle, but even though it's obviously not perfect, it is very appealing and the potential for your future improvement is somewhat exciting.

More practice! I want to see more.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The torso was what I was happiest with, glad it really does look good and it's not just in my eyes.

I think I figured out how things should change with the shoulders. I made them up too high and it makes it look weird. Heads, yeah, I'm not good at making believable heads/faces yet. The legs, I was happy with her right one, but yeah the left is a bit flat.

And as for more practice, tried my hand at a guy today. Here's a pencil sketch of my new brute on Guardian Bloody Knuckles. As it says in my comment, I'm planning on inking it and then scanning it again to color it digitally. Maybe I should wait to get a critique to ink it so I can change anything that looks terrible (and is within my current skill, I know the face isn't great but it's as good is it's gonna get after being redrawn 20 times).

Oh, yes, and thank you goldbricker for the insight on the other piece. Much appreciated.

    edit: changed the subject >.>
  14. [ QUOTE ]
What Darkether said. Also, I noticed her right elbow is smaller than her wrist, just a point you may want to watch out for next time. A fantastic start though! It looks great

    [/ QUOTE ]

The wrist/elbow thing happened when I lengthened the arm. I rotated it a little bit to get it to sort of line up and then edited it. I was just looking at the paper version and the arm is short and a bit fat, but the wrist is thinner on it. I guess I messed it up by fixing it >.> Oh well. I'm still happy with it considering I haven't really drawn people in about 5 years, and previously it was very bland poses. Also, I drew it with no reference in front of me so, again lol, pretty satisfied with it.

And again, I wanna make sure I say it, thank you all for the kind words. You guys and my 100+ alts are providing plenty of inspiration and motivation to keep drawing (which is a good thing since I'm gonna have to get a portfolio of suitable work together to get into the major I wanna get into, kinda hard to do if I don't feel like drawing).
  15. I say, old chap, I do fancy this colour palette which you have provided for our use. May I present to you fine chaps and ladies, Percival Cavendish. He's a ripe old bean who's gotten fed up with all the riff-raff on the streets nowadays and decided it was high time he went to boffing 'em on their noggins with his walking stick. (I wish there was a nice smoking jacket to use... and he really needs a pipe instead of a cigar, but I think it works well enough heh).
  16. Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I spent the last couple hours working on it in PSP and wound up with this. I like how it turned out even though I'm not anywhere near the best at digital coloring.

Anyway, you'll likely see a lot more stuff from me in the future. I hadn't been drawing at all for a long time but I'm being forced to draw (stuff that I don't want to, like bottles and fruit and buildings; I can draw those things fine, it's people I need to learn how to do right!) so if I'm drawing I may as well devote some of my drawing time to things I want to draw, right? I think so.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
The main thing I noticed was the right arm - the forearm, specifically, is a bit short and thick, comparing to the other arm.

Nevertheless, keep up the good work - you'll only improve the more you do it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I was trying to make it so that it looked like the right arm was angled back a bit as if she was about to launch some fire but then, yeah, I made it too thick and it just looks weird. All my high school stuff was pretty much flat so I'm trying to work on more action shots and such now and it's tough. Anyway, thanks for the kind words.

Edit: I played around a bit with it digitally and updated it.
  18. So... I finally drew something that I wanted to draw and was actually happy with the result. And now my DA page actually has something on it. I know the right hand and arm and shoulder are wonky, but it's a hell of a lot better than the crap I drew back in high school. Anyway, it's my villain on Guardian in her newest costume:

    Gwenadyne

Feel free to critique and point out all the flaws I don't see (even though I think I see all of them, there's more stuff I see wrong with it that I just didn't want to mention heh).

    edit: changed title

Well, that explains it. Why are you guys trusting Clockwork minions to take care of these services? Cog nudger... lol

Click here if you want to know why I find "Cog nudger" so amusing. (As a warning, it's a "mature" theme but no naughty bits, just what's said in the captions is a bit ... yeah).

    Gwyneira –
This costume reminds me of the pulpy space-faring heroes like Flash Gordon, Captain Comet, etc. I could easily see this character, fists ablaze, leading the charge against an army of world-conquering aliens. I’m not crazy about that belt in this instance. It seems to conflict with the rest of the design. I might’ve gone with one that matched the tiara a little better. My only other nitpick is with the hands. Why keep them fleshy? I’d like to see the teal or even the orange used on the boots there instead.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I'm glad I captured what I was going for (pulp space hero). The belt, I don't know about it. I tried a couple of the more traditional ones (like V and "Peak") but they didn't look right to me, it just seemed to need something different. And as for the hands, I'm just weird about gloves; I rarely like covering the entire hand with color, don't really know why. I'll have to get over that I guess since it probably would look better.

  22. Guess everyone else is busy doing i12 stuff, I can't believe I'm only the second one to make a costume for this palette so far.

Anyway, considering the colors, I went with a Ice/Thermal controller. Was gonna get creative with the name and go with something to do with comets etc. but I'm too much of a fan of Gwyn/Gwen names. (The name still fits alright, gwyn=white, eira=snow. Probably woulda been better as an Ice/Cold defender with that last palette that I never got around to making an entry for >.&lt

    15 People

Figured I'd add another post thanking the dev team. You guys are a shining example of what I hope to be in a few years. I'm going back to school in a month after taking nearly 8 years to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. My major is going to be Game Art and Design. I hope you guys will still be hiring in three or four years when I graduate because I would absolutely love to work with a team that's as devoted to their game as you guys are. Devs, you rock and thank you for showing me what a real dev should be (if I had been a longtime player of any of the other MMOs I doubt that I would actually want to get into the field). So thanks again, and keep up the good work.

I may be getting another pic created and just need ideas for poses.

    Thanks!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, this is evidence that no one should ever commision me for doing actual art, but I like this pose for him. (In the photo I used[and modified heavily since my arms are about half that thick], my eyes were looking at the camera but that's hard to make it look like that when the eyes are all red... But yeah, head down, eyes looking forward, hands out to the side with fire in them).
