Costume Help: Funky Flames

So I'm trying to spend a bit more time on blueside and I've come up with a name and character idea I like, but am having a lot of trouble coming up with the right look. Here's the vitals:

Name: Funky Flames
Archetype: Scrapper
Power Sets: Fire/Fire
Origin: Science (set on fire via pyrotechnics accident at his funk music concert; life saved by the "Smell that Funk!" brand of cologne he was wearing a copious quantity of; he had developed it in his father's super science lab; instead of burning to death the super science cologne infused the flame with his skin permanently; the formula was lost in the accident)

Look notes: skinny, big afro, 1970s funk vibe, African-American, 6'6" or so tall, sunglasses

Can you dig it?

Also, Tights + Straight Boot option = Pseudo Bell bottoms

Just a quick play-through in the creator:

Oh, that's good work! The red and black are too villainous (I do lots of red and black on my villains; no I'm not that creative lol), but the overall look is way better than anything I was doing last night.

I can dig it! And that's a great tip. Two great looks so far, I hope to get a few more.

Awesome stuff!

And for some reason because I was think of Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction...

Bold, colorful and, most importantly, it doesn't use the giant afro when a more modest do will do. I like it.

I'm usually not a fan of blaxploitation characters (as they're often the *only* black characters I see), but this costume makes him look like a cheeky badass, and not like a disco clown.

SLJ just simply rules. He's even cooler than Wesley Snipes.

I'm humbled by the work you guys have put in on these. All of you, everyone who responded to this thread. I truly do appreciate it! And I can't believe the name Funky Flames was actually available on Virtue. Sometimes you get lucky.

The concern about blacksploitation is a very valid one, and one I'm always acutely sensitive to. Blacksploitation was giving jobs to black actors at a time when that was especially hard to come by. And they were depicted as heroes. Anti-heroes, perhaps, but heroes nonetheless, and this was a groundbreaking development in cinema for black actors. Great actors like Pam Grier would possibly be unknown today if not for roles like these. Also consider that the white characters in this game are also very much cartoonish stereotypes as well, it's kind of the nature of the beast.

This character is meant as an homage to those cinematic characters, and depicts a strong black man who is working against evil and to make the world a better place...with questionable fashion sense.

As to these fantastic costumes, thanks again to everyone for making them! I've picked the ones I'll use on various costume slots, and I can't wait to finally see the new Hollows.

Redside is great, but sometimes you just want to be the Hero, you know?

Funky Flames is alive and well in game now. Thanks again to everyone who participated. I think Samuel Freeman Snipes (aka Funky Flames) is going to go the distance. Buildup+Fiery Embrance on a Scrapper? With costumes that look this outstanding? Yeah, he's gonna 50 alright I can feel it.

I've already gotten some...interesting comments from people. I always look to get interesting comments and it never fails to make me even more interested in a character.

His cologne went from a one-time application thing to something he has to apply every day or lose his powers. This also gives him the opportunity to constantly work on the formula to improve it and make his powers even more powerful.

Now I'm off to get the Funk up.

Heh. That's pretty good.

I wonder if someone would do up a 'movie poster' type artwork of the various blaxploitation characters around here....

.... not that I wouldn't have a personal interest, oh no...

It's full of Funk.

"I have had it with these ************* Trolls in this ************* Hollows!"

P.S. This character has encouraged me to broaden my musical horizons and I'm listening to more Funk. And you know, I like it! Pandora rules.

Figured since others are sharing their funky characters, I'd share one of mine. This is The Untroller. He's a controller, but refuses to conform to the role. He's Mind Control/Trick Arrow, with Air Sup, Boxing, etc. (not too many of them now since he's only level 9 even though he's been around for 2 years), so he acts more like a scrapper (who always crits lol) than a controller.

Untroller shot 1
Untroller shot 2

He's a bit less funk and a bit more "one bad mutha" but I think he'd get along well with the others presented here lol.

One year, one month and four days later Funky Flames has reached level 50! Thanks once again to everyone who helped develop Samuel Freeman Snipes and special thanks to ddgryphon for giving him an incredibly great look (which has been complimented many times in game now).

Oh, and he has shiny boots as of Issue 15, too.

A Funky Fifty!
