Perhaps you have already encountered what I am about to warn about, but anyway... Be careful running any Carnival of Shadows missions (redside) on a Kheldian before around level 37 or so. The Carnival is an anomaly of a villain group, whereas they only appear hero-side from level 40+, but they appear in a weaker state (not all mobs actually have the end drain) from level 30+ villainside. Previously, this had led to some issues in AE, and now it can lead to a level 30 PB/WS having to face down the barrel of a level 40 Quantum's rifle. I ran into a level 40 Quantum Carnie the other night on my 37 WS and was quite happy that she had gained a few levels redside beforehand or it would have likely been quite messy.

As others have stated, a thesaurus is a huge boon to naming. Many of my toons were named using the thesaurus that I keep on my desk next to me at all times. It's fun finding archaic/underused terms that describe the character without initially sounding like they do (like my Sonic/Kin defender, Dulcet).
Other times, I just play around with free association and word amalgamation (which is how I ended up with my new KM/WP Scrapper, Enigmatech and my fire/SR Scrapper, Cinderotic).
And sometimes, I want a name that isn't entirely heroic but still has a good ring to it and relates to the character. For those characters, I use http://www.20000-names.com/ (where I got the name for my Night Widow, Kaliska; which is a Miwok name meaning coyote chasing deer. And also my Dark/Shield Scrapper, Dougal; which is an English name meaning Black Stranger). The site has some annoying pop-ups, but it's worth it for the quantity and quality of names it contains.
And then other times, I take inspiration from music, literature, or theatre. (while making sure to not steal anything directly and cite the inspiration when necessary; Wendy O and Amelia van Diemen both have their roots in music for example).
Good luck to you coming up with a name. -
My screen setup is horrible for seeing the 3d action, but I tend to pay a lot of attention to combat numbers as they fly by and I chat quite a bit. It'd be absolutely impossible for me to see anything, however, if I didn't adjust the window scale. I keep mine set to 80% now (I think it was actually at 85% for this screenshot though, since it was before I got my larger monitor and text was a bit too small to read comfortably at 80%). Anyway, here's mah setup:
-
It's funny, back in 06 when I made my fire/kin(troller and corr), I took hover to use in combat so that I wouldn't be running around like mad when I siphon speed. I liked it, it made hover speed about as fast as sprint was. Now, I played my fire/kin corr the other day to bring her hero side, and I was hitting the speed cap with one application of siphon speed while hovering. It's disgusting.

A pseudonym, an alias, a nom de guerre. I'm well aware of exactly what a forum handle is, but it is still a name that we are made to choose for ourselves. And then we get nicknamed based on what we chose as a forum name. I still stand by my statement.
-
I understand the differences between an alias and a nickname. However, we are still asked to choose a name for ourselves. Therefore, I still find it amusing.
-
I find this example to be quite ironic given that the discussion is taking place on an internet forum, where you have to give yourself a nickname before you can even talk to anyone.

There are a lot of great ideas in this thread, I kinda skipped/skimmed by a lot of them, but yeah.
Anyway, what I would love to see is alternate animations for the blast sets that actually move around instead of just going "ok, put arm here, shoot bolts of elemental energy". What I have in mind is something akin to the animations used for the various benders in Avatar: The Last Airbender (the cartoon, for which they actually did extensive research into various martial arts, not the movie by Shamallamaman where they just had the actors flail about like idiots). -
Congratz to my fellow winners, er, well, fellow runner-up and Lord_Goat rather.
I think I will take you up on the art. My newest creation could use a piece done of her. Bioelectra is a mutant with extreme control over her own bones. She can grow them into weapons and also compress them within her own body to create a piezoelectric reaction that she can use for various purposes (aka she's spines/elec scrapper). Don't have anything in mind really, just something with a few less spines than CoH gives her and a bit of electric aura and the electric eyes. Pose/action/etc are up to you.
Also, in case you need it, here's the costume file's contents for Frost Argent:

I know this was the case pre-ED, but if I'm not mistaken, I believe it was adjusted (as was SS's Rage) some time after IOs were added.

Quote:Yes, English grammar does have many tools. Some of these tools are not quite as familiar to some of the players of this game. This is something that everyone should keep in mind; in this case, Player should have kept this in mind. While I don't believe that the OP's native language is something other than English, it could have been the case and then Player just comes off as an insensitive *****.But we have other very useful tools to signify pauses: . and ,
Aside from different grammatical rules and languages though, everyone has a different way of typing; Player should have just been pleased that the response wasn't in l33t speak or txt language. -
Quote:The limit imposed on the base salvage storage was 999. It did allow for the storing of many more than that though, as once it got full, you could still add similar salvage to the stacks already in there. It was a bit weird how it worked. And you're right that 18 storage bins is the max no matter what kind (salvage, enhancement, or inspiration). The devs have stated that stored items take up alot of memory which is why they swapped off base salvage in the 1st place (could store way too much of it in chests before... 1k per I believe...might have been more even).

I don't know if this is true. Just last week, I re-activated my main account, bought the mutant pack for it, re-activated my second account, bought the science and natural booster for that; and then accidentally purchased the wedding pack for it too (which I had already had on it). It would have been nice if it did cut me off from buying the last pack. Anyway, back to the point, if there is a limit, it's more than 6 transactions.

I mean no offense by it, but your drawings do generally fit the theme prevalent in anime; large eyes, cute little noses, round heads with pointy chins. Your most recent work, the profile of Gene (and the piece used in your avatar), is in a style I like better though; so maybe I will take a prize if I end up winning anything.
-
I took a stab at a few of them. I don't particularly care for the anime style that your art emulates, so if I am a runner-up or anything, you can save yourself some work, or if you still want to make a prize, I transfer my prize rights to Hericane. If needed, I saved each costume file. Most pieces are pretty recognizable though. The only thing that isn't quite noticeable at first glance is the slight circuitry pattern on Gene-Tech's face, it's a pink/purple that's around the same shade as her skin; it made for a nice subtle effect.
Frost Argent
I know that you said that striped tights are a must, but they just didn't look good with the rest of it. The leather straps at least have stripes, just not as busy as full out stripes. As for a device, what I was thinking for this was that the armor pads under the jacket with its weave-type pattern would function as a sort of insulated moisturizing system.
Gene-Tech
For Gene-Tech, I didn't give her a ACCAHUD since I was using my second account to avoid accidentally using any vet reward pieces that you don't have access to and I don't have the cyborg pack on that account, so imagine one on her lol.
Dead Naught
For Dead Naught, you said that the bloody handprint should remain, but with giving her a shirt the handprint would have been rather small so I omitted it. Of the three I took a stab at, I'm least happy with this one, it's not really anything special, but it's something different than what you have that fits the theme. -
I played around with your build, and got this:

Personally, I'm gonna respec my BS/WP to match what I got from this, since I like the numbers on it better than anything I had before. Melee isn't softcapped, but since lethal, fire, cold, energy, and negative are, I don't think it'll be a problem. -
When it was stunning you if you slotted it in stamina/QR, I was always tempted to make a zombie toon on Virtue and slot it, and then it would make perfect sense when every few minutes, I'd just start staggering about doing nothing. I never got around to it before they fixed it, would've been fun.

Quote:Sorry about leaving that. I could have probably stayed, but I didn't want to burn myself out like usually happens when I run multiple TFs in one night. Glad to hear that part 2 went well.Well, there were enough people that we managed to find melee-only teams for posi part 1 and 2. Granted, it took a bit to replace the 3 people who had to go after part 1, but we managed it. Restricting ourselves to less than half the population and still getting a full TF team together might be significant (and there were *tons* of tanks and scrappers on - if so many of them weren't already on teams, it'd have been even easier).
-
It's hard to compare the two and determine a definite better program. At my school, we use both depending on which major. I'm in Game Art and we use 3DS Max exclusively. From what we're told, Max is used more by game developers, while Maya is used more in the SFX and movie industry. Although one of our teachers works for Schell games and they use Maya there, so that's not even a sure bet.
Also, since Maya got assimilated by Autodesk, they've slowly become more like Max anyway. If I had to choose which program to use and didn't already know how to use Max, I'd still probably choose Max since Autodesk is more likely to give Max new features before Maya since it's their "baby".
As for rendering, you can get great results out of anything if you know how to set it up. And then there's also the option of using separate rendering programs, like Marmoset (which is a game engine that does renders). -
