Quote:Nope. I understood that he meant in one day (or rather, on one Double XP weekend), and if the Prestige is doubled as well, then my point is twice as significant. <grin>Originally Posted by IronbladeI think you misunderstood part of what he said. Quote:I'm not certain that earning 6M Prestige is that difficult to do for an active group. For example, when a taxi hits level 50, they are usually in the 600,000 to 750,000 Prestige range through regular play (i.e., regular missions and task forces). To err on the side of caution, let's round that down to 500,000. So to earn 6 million Prestige, a group merely needs TWELVE people that play in SG mode and reach level 50.Originally Posted by Citizen DeltaWe don't run as many task forces as we used to, do to the said drop in core players, also families are now taking priority and playing time has decreased. I personally was not surprised then when another sg came clawing up the ranks to overhaul us.
So flash back to the last double xp. Our rivals were close, we knew they planned on passing us that weekend. We talked some oldtimers to give up other games for the weekend. We managed to ship our wives out of town and just had crazy fun all weekend long. Monday evening we all get on after work, basking in the glow of pushing back the night one last time. When we got on the lead was still intact, when we checked Monday night before we logged we had been passed. Our rivals had a 6 million prestige day. The day after Double XP was over. We knew then for sure and have had the our rivals confirm that they were buying prestige.
Now, you mentioned it being Double-XP weekend, which doesn't affect Prestige accumulation, though such weekends are a good incentive for people to play. So it really sounds like this other group is merely more active in terms of activities, and they likely have committed core members and were more successful at doing recruiting.
It's good that you had fun over that particular weekend. However, you might want to take a more sedate attitude towards your current group's ranking, since that will increase merely through people enjoying the game.

Quote:A good approach is to consider what type of character will fit your mood, both in terms of playing solo and as part of a team. Then choose powers that you believe will suit your play style, rather than choosing a "novel" power that you never use.Originally Posted by Skipper DanSo I start a few other characters to check out their powers, but they only start with one from each set, and there are eight more in each. I can't possibly try all of them out.
So I'm doing some search to see if there's any way to preview powers. For instance, the 'Psionic Tornado' skill in Psychic Blast may look awesome but there's no easy way to preview it. Does anyone know of a website or program that can show you what powers look like? Thanks in advance!
After taking the character for a test drive, then take a look at the Player Help >> Player Guides >> Guide to Guides section in these forums. There is plenty of advice about powers and combinations of powers that work well. Whilst you're at it, check out the guides about working well on a team.

Champions server is quite active. When you are looking at the server list, the #1 position is your most recently visited server, and then the following servers are listed from least-populated to most-populated.
Overall, the user interface is somewhat overwhelming for a new user, though you will find that the available controls make sense, and that you can customize them to suit your needs.

Freedom Phalanx is entrusting us with some of the most serious tasks imaginable. As part of the UN Expeditionary Force into the Shadow Shard, Justin Augustine has been charged with investigating issues of a mystical nature. Justin has made important discoveries that may help us to better understand the nature of the Shadow Shard. Justin has asked us to investigate a structure at the center of the Shadow Shard, called the Chantry, which is apparently home to the legendary being known in oral tradition as The Kind One.

Notes:- This is a task force challenge series, where both teams will seek a reasonably high difficulty level, depending upon the team composition.
- We do not generally speed run these adventures, though we do seek to make good time and enjoy being in the story.
- When doing a higher level challenge, the team lead needs to be in the zone before anyone enters the mission. Otherwise, the mission difficulty will default back to Heroic.
- For team composition, the suggestion is to have 1-2 tankers, and 2-3 blasters for AoE crowd control. However, we will not blindly attempt a difficulty that is beyond the team makeup. When unsure, we begin at Tenacious and gradually increase the difficulty.
- For Teams Two and Three, it is asked that there be a tanker for each team to provide good aggro management.

Oh, that's a drag. Yes, by the time you were able to get on, both teams had finished up both story arcs.
For those that showed up hoping for a spot, it's easier to sign up in these forums, so that we can have an official third team going (i.e., with a third team lead that can look after the team adequately).
Cheers,

It would be nice to have a tanker for Team One, though I can serve in the role if necessary. Due to my set bonuses, I have +50% Ranged Defense and am able to take the alphas consistently. A decent strategy is 1) let me aggro the enemy group, 2) let the group come to us. However, don't run to engage the group in melee when there is a second or third group behind; they will aggro on you and slow the team down because we'll lose our focus on the first group.
For the AVs, I have a couple of single-target holds that are effective for caging the AV.

Freedom Phalanx is entrusting us with some of the most serious tasks imaginable. Statesman is busy with ongoing reports on Lord Recluse's web system, so Maria Jenkins is our contact for dealing with a new Praetorian threat. At the conclusion of our adventures last week, Neuron and Anti-Matter escaped from the Zig, and now the early warning system we configured on the Praetorian world has stopped transmitting.

Freedom Phalanx is entrusting us with some of the most serious tasks imaginable. In the course of our adventures, we met Sara Moore who leads a group of humans that are native to the Shadow Shard. They fight to protect their territory from incursions of the Rularuu and have been largely successful. However, Nemesis may be seeking to undermine this group by cutting off access to their food sources. If it involves Nemesis, then we'd better investigate this. However, after our previous forays into the Shadow Shard, be prepared for a challenging adventure.
