Quote:Hence why I said we should build a consensus on one place to send them if the devs aren't going to provide an official one.Im against this personally, soon as you start pointing players in different directions then the playerbase splits into cliches and well . . . . . . chaos

We, and the devs.
We'll be getting an influx of new players. I for one want to not only hook them on the game, but sell them on the lifestyle; make sure they experience the best of what CoH has to offer.
-AFAIK, free players won't have posting rights to the official forums, and I've heard nothing from the devs about setting up and "free area". Correct me if I'm wrong. If I am not, to that end, I suggest we work towards enabling free players a way to connect with the community. Is there any place still active they can go to discuss the game? I seem to recall there used to be some unofficial forums set up. Are they still active? If so, we should all get behind pointing new players there. If not, it would be really cool for someone to set something up.
-Paragonwiki.com
The wealth of information there is enormous and invaluable. And we still have active players who don't know about it. I feel it's very important to inform new players of this site.
-The official comic archive.
I can't stress how important I feel the comics were to this game. They made the franchise feel bigger than just a single online game. Having the tie-in made everything feel grander IMO.
-Mids and Hero Stats.
Let people know about these. They're not for everyone, but for some they make a huge difference in how they approach the game.
-Samuraiko's videos.
The community value of these are priceless. They build hype better than some of the official marketing and they offer to educate and illustrate the many cool things that have been added to the game over the years.
-Virtueverse and Unionverse
Again, it's about showing people there's a thriving community. It's been my observation that RPers make fiercely loyal customers and immersing new players who enjoy RP can only help retention.
These are just off the top of my head. I'll add more as I think of them. I encourage others to make suggestions too.

I don't know if anyone has posted anything similar, but I'm having an issue where if I'm standing outside a bunker and the door has been taken out, I can't see any enemies or players that are inside until I enter myself. The insides of the bunker a clearly visible, and any vfx that leak out past the threshold of the door can be seen, but it's as if there's a phantom door object remaining that occludes the objects inside.
This is both the case when I've been there when the door was defeated and when I've arrived after the fact.
This seems to be a recent problem because I don't remember it in beta and hadn't noticed it when Keyes first went live.

Quote:Yeah, but here's the thing: When you have a reasonable alternative option that will please more people, that's the one that should be taken.Well one of the biggest complaints we saw about I20 was that there were only two trials and people wanted more variety. Now the argument there comes down to what sort of variety should the devs provide. They are opting for expanding the content instead of expanding the types of content. As with every decision they make this will please some people and annoy others. For people who enjoy running the trials more variety is a good thing and they are going to always want more trials.
Some people like team content. Fine. Providing four Trials catered to them, exclusively.
Two trials + a soloable Incarnate path would have catered to them and the people who want to solo. The fact of the matter is, with few exceptions, all soloable content can also be done by teams.
Instead of giving both groups some of what they want, they excluded the people who want to solo. Again. Because they had already excluded them from the start by not planning a soloable Incarnate tract from Day 1.
That is why people are getting more than a little miffed. It's completely justified because eight months after the Alpha dropped and the complaints started, they continue to be overlooked while the trials keep on getting cranked out.

Quote:Yes, but see the point I make at the end of the post.See I like this. It's nice to have an expanding list of trials without feeling like we're on a treadmill running constantly just to stay in one place.
Quote:Variety is nice, but four trials for the same four Incarnate slots we've had since the trials started just isn't necessary at this time, especially at the expense giving players a solo tract.
Rather than giving players four trials to divide their time between, they could have given us two trials and viable solo options; that's variety too.

Honestly, I think expanding the Incarnate experience to include a viable solo path is coming. The question is when.
With i21, it's clear the focus was shifted back to the early level game. New tutorial, Atlas/Mercy updates, low 20's zone. Obviously, this work has been put in for the influx of new players we should hopefully be getting when we go F2P.
More troubling to me is that Incarnate (trial) content has outpaced Incarnate rewards. Content shouldn't exceed the rate at which they can give us new carrots to chase. By i21 we're going to have another trial, but no new Incarnate slots to go with it. Like Keyes, I see no real reason to run it. I've been sitting at T4s on the characters I care about for quite some time. By the time they get back to adding more slots, we'll be sick of all four trials.
This makes me angry because the resources and time spent on Keyes and the Underground trial could have been put towards giving people the solo path they want. Variety is nice, but four trials for the same four Incarnate slots we've had since the trials started just isn't necessary at this time, especially at the expense giving players a solo tract.
Rather than giving players four trials to divide their time between, they could have given us two trials and viable solo options; that's variety too.

Quote:Because in just about every other MMO, the "end game" is team-based raiding and despite the developers claiming otherwise when Incarnates were first announced, they just did what everyone else does in their end game. Why does incarnate content has to be incarnate trials?
So far, the only answer I've heard is "because the devs like them".
So much for innovation.
I guess in their minds, calling it a trial instead of a raid makes it completely different.

Quote:Thanks for the answers. We adjusted content that has players traveling to Galaxy City for kill tasks, etc. once it's removed because that would be, well, a drag. And quite impossible. (We're not planning on sending players to Echo: Galaxy either.)
WW
What about SG base portals that currently point to Galaxy?
. -
-
Quote:Not necessarily. Nothing says that it can't be a co-op temporal flashback accessible from both Ouro zones. Not sure how they will handle it, as the Oro Galaxy won't be accessible to rogues who might be running the TF.
Or does simply going to Ouro boot a Rogue from a blue TF team? Never tried.
. -
How can we defeat 10 Hellions in Galaxy City?
I'd rather they alter the TF than send us to the supposed Ouroboros flashback of Galaxy.

The point of the Polar Lights was for them to be nondescript, unobtrusive and concept-flexible.
They can be anything from the spirits of your character's dead parents, some kind of technological constructs, focused qi energy or whatever you need them to be.
People asked for this in the many discussions about Lore pets and I asked for pets that looked like wisps specifically, and I am very satisfied with them.

Quote:Except for Psyche's expression and BaB's hair and skin tone, I love the image.I hope more posts come up about how bad the artwork is... I wanna see David cry.
I mean, damn... you guys are brutal and beyond critical. I'm not gonna say I enjoy the facial expressions or ethnicity issue BaBs is having, but I enjoy the composition and pretty colors.
Could use some Arachnos representation though if they're supposed to be part of it.

Quote:The (ab)use(?) of the Ouro portal is definately a cool and powerful thing. If you ever read the Authority comic, they have the ability to summon a "Door" portal to their location that can take them wherever they want to go. Ouro zone hopping reminds me of this.Something of this nature takes place in Mender Ramiel's arc, where I'm asked to speak with the Statesman. A normal person would board the train or go via super travel, but instead I teleported to his location, spoke with the Statesman and hopped a portal right back into Ouroboros. More than just being powerful, this gave me an odd sense of breaking the rules, that I could just appear to a signature character, get what I need out of him and simply disappear again.
Quote:I suppose what I'm asking is just how much of a breadth of abilities do you feel an Incarnate should posses?
Quote:Really, this comes to power level vs. breadth of abilities. How much of which one do you believe makes an "Incarnate?"
More then feeling like being an Incarnate has made me more powerful, most of the stuff that's happened since i19 has made me feel like Incarnates are weaker than they "used to be" or rather what we were once lead to believe them to be.
In other words, instead of building us up, they've brought Incarnates, including States and Recluse, down. Instead of being able to lift a building or one shot a mothership being an Incarnate-level feat as in the canon, dealing 10% more damage is, and that's significantly less cool and compelling for a "demigod" (or even a super hero) IMO.

Four changes need to be made:
1. Allow people who are already queued to be invited to a League/Team.
If someone is queued, that means they WANT to run a trial. Why should they then have to un-queue just to receive and accept an invite to a trial? Allow them to receive invites and then un-queue them automatically should they accept.
2. Queuing for a Trial automatically sets your Team Search status to "Looking for Trial".
3. SHOW the number of people who are queued for each trial.
This will encourage people to queue if there are already a number of people in it. If there aren't many in the queue and it discourages them from queuing, so be it; the trial probably wasn't going to launch anytime soon anyways.
4. Allow people to see and join Trials in progress, provided the trial is not locked and has open spots.

Hello.
Question: Do you have measures in place so that if someone already owns a Booster now that they can't accidentally pay for an item they already have unlocked?

Quote:People balked when I said the devs would deliver a Tri-Blades set with three swords because they can't stop making weapon sets.Is that a big rusty sword... with smaller swords sticking out of it? This is going to be awesome. It's like the devs looked into my soul and saw my dreams.
They doubled that for six blades. I am vindicated.
