Oh, that's easy. The Ghost Widow/Red Widow Red-Bull-Fueled "Mud-Wrestlers of the Apocalypse" co-op arc should bring them in. Especially when the Shards start exploding out of the mud pit! (And there's something in it for the ladies as well, when mischievous Captain Mako hops in the pit and the REAL fun starts!)

Quote:And you have a point, but I would argue that we've never actually been given the chance to play villians... just Jack's homogenized version. I think that (along with the general neglect) is what really put players off about redside. And seeing that new material has been added recently, it might be just the time a bit of a revamp. At this point they'd be silly to sink a ton of resources into red side.
I played villains exclusively for a good while & would love some kind of gigantic CoV upgrade, but it makes zero business sense.
The playerbase has spoken, and they prefer heroes.
After all we're getting another ward for brassside and NOBODY likes brassside -
The New typical "CoH Experience" Formula:
a) run "Tutorial" to achieve 2nd level
b) run "Death from Below" teams until 15+
c) run "Drowned in Blood" teams until 20+ OR continue with DfB teams until 20+
d) run alignment switch (if red side)
e) solo First Ward arcs and/or run Blueside TFs until 50
g) run Incarnate arcs
h) post "mor endgame plz" "stoopid pets" and "why no staff" posts.
Seriously though, as I've said before. Redside needs a serious revamp to give people reasons to play a redside toon. Personally, since the trope is that villains do not play well with others in any case, my suggestion is to create more in-depth and length solo-ish arcs featuring the character's climb to infamy as a villain of note.
Then spice it up with "team-up" arcs that require more than one villain/rogue/vigilante to complete goals (like the Rogues teaming up to deal with the Flash, or The Sinister Six with Spidey). Add new aspects like "In order to do this job, it's gonna take some Infamy, chum" to give a reason fr pulling bank jobs and papers again. Also consider "drop in" missions... mission that allow other villians who draw the same mission while it's active to "drop-in" to either work with, or betray the impromptu "partners." (maybe even having a pvp element to it)
Oh, and for Grud sake, let villains be villains. You don't have to allow us to be raving mass-murdering psychopaths, but Jack's gone now... can we at least do four-color villainy?
I think with some distinct changes to redside, it would allow more people to enjoy playing a villain for a change, and more people does make for more teaming. -
The new marketing plan: Staff Melee will not be released until the sales goal of 1,000,000 notLigers is met!
-
Put that on the list with: hats without hair, masks without skin tone, metallic skins without seams, "removable" crab backpacks, quivers and holsters, male Carnival of Light costumes, and a whole slew of other things we'll probably never get.

Hmmm. Thanks to Zwill for at least giving us some heads-up.
However...
It seems very simple to me, if you have a huge bunch of people clamoring for product "x," you make product "x" available as soon as possible. Marketing/Release schemes are all and good, but not when that could potentially effect revenue/subscriptions.
Also, tossing out "not-so-much-clamored-for" product "a," "b," "c," and "d" as place-holders, seems more apt to alienate buyers then to encourage them.
Then again, that's just my opinion. I'm sure that NCSoft has a metric somewhere that supports their decision. -
12.3. Crashing about ever three or four hours. (I noticed some issues on Borderlands as well)
Anyone have any tips on a quick way to roll back to 12.1? -

THIS JUST IN: In honor of the 10th anniversary of the Rikti War, The Paragon Market will be release the limited edition Leprerikti! This magical unkillable, untargetable, undimissable, alien pal has a +1000% bonus to taunt and a-500% stealth mod. And the great part is that EVERYONE gets one for free! Listen to it's lovable howls as is summons new friends for your character!
IN another announcement, NCSoft announced that they will be offering Lepererikti Removal Tokens for just 5000 Paragon Points or 15000 Paragons Points for Two! (This is an Account Item)

I wonder if the devs could "tether" range-only pets to the summoning mastermind in a way similar to the tethering of mobs (but with a much shorter range)? That way they could limit the suicides, but still have the "body shield" effect should something get a wee bit too close.

I'm not crazy about it personally, but that's because a) I don't like the micro-transaction model, not only because of the nickle-n-dime aspect of it, but because as a rule they really disregard any loyalty to the game in question, and b) I saw nothing wrong with the old way we were doing it (ie subscription play).
That said, at least NCSoft is rewarding loyalty with the rewards programs, such as it's become.
However, the issue I have with NCSoft is that they do not provide enough information for making educated purchases. For example, If I want to purchase a costume set, I currently have to look for it, either in a post somewhere on the forums or sift through the CC to find each item. Same with power sets.
If they want to handle everything ala carte micro-transactions, then the market should have all that information (including lists and images) readily available.
And yes... I'm being lazy.
When things were given to us, I had no problem putting forth some effort to look them up, find out the mechanics, etc. Now I'm paying, and my money means YOU have to do the work... if you want a chance to sell me a car, best show me around it first. -
I just started one of these the other night, it looks to have some serious potential for some fun play.

Mike Resnick "Weird West" novels are fun, if not too historically inaccurate, romps featuring Doc Holiday. They currently consist of The Buntline Special and The Doctor & The Kid.
I also highly recommend Mark Hodder's "Burton & Swinburne" (as in Sir Richard Burton and Algernon Swinburne) novels. Another semi-historical tales, in a more steampunky atmosphere. There's three so Far: The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack, The Curious Case of the Clockwork Man, and The Expedition to the Mountains of the Moon.
Lastly, since I have a theme going, give Kim Newman's Professor Moriarty: The Hound of the D'Urbervilles a try as well -
Quote:/QFTWell, there's your problem. You've set yourself up to remove all the difficulty of the old content. Unslot your iPowers and whip up a SO only build. Now the difficulty slider depends on skill and team composition again.
I'm a bit of a masochist and even I don't find endurance issues, especially at low levels where you don't have enough slots and the things you can put in those slots have negligible bonuses, fun in the least. Running out of end during a hastened burn cycle is one thing, running out of end with your three attacks and two toggles is another.
A lot of peoples toons today equate to min-maxing a pnp rpg character for combat. He may suck talking to a barmaid, but there's very little chance he'll lose in a fight. In CoH, there is no "barmaid" scenario, so these high-performance frakenslotted, incarnate characters have no drawbacks to contend with.
How I keep the challenge in my toons after 7+ years? I build to concept, slot only what drops, and play for fun.
That said, I DO think that much of the older content have been grossly neglected in lue of new shiniess. Red side is one old beaten horse I could roll out, but blues side itself has more than its share or stale arcs as well. I would love to see the devs take an upcoming issue and have it concentrate on a preexisting content revamp. Zones, arcs, missions, ...the works. -
1) A homeland. We have a hero side and a villian side. we need a rogue side. I think - with the story arc changes - that a 'broken" Praetoria would be wonderfully suited to that role.
2) "Grey" arcs. solo and team arcs that require a certain "moral flexibility." This would require certain choices to be made in the arcs and missions.
3) Special "grey" perks and awards.
4) A "grey" EAT/VEAT. My suggestion would be the "Profiteer," a stealthy blasterish AT with secondary mastermindish support powers (eg support pets) with an innate ability to generate better/extra rewards for teams. -
It seems to me that "Lassie" is the most used term right now. Too familiar to be overturned unless by something really really mainstream and memorable.
Personally, I like "Boudreaux" from Grosse Pont Blank. -
I saw it. I liked it. It wasn't accurate to physics, or possesing an overly complicated thought-provoking plot. It was by no means a "perfect" movie (whatever the heck that means).
But...
It was a fun movie, and fairly faithful to the original ERB stories, which is what I was looking for.
If they made more movies like this, I might actually go more often.
(as a side note, is anyone else here irritated that many of the reviewers talk about the lack of originality of the story and concept, with an obvious ignorance that The Barsoom novels predate most of their analogs by the better part of a century?) -
Nope. Don't want to encourage the "nickle-n-dime" mentality it anymore than has already been done. customization has been free so far, no need to start charging for it in the future.

Johnny Quest and Captain Scarlet (well, Scarlett's "Supermarionation", but what the heck)
