Just logged on to both Freedom and Virtue and it's night and day. Freedom still spitting out red spikes with a ping over 200. Virtue is nice and smooth "green grass" with a ping of 150.
-
I just checked both Freedom and Virtue.
BIG difference. Red spikes on Freedom and smooth green grass on Virtue. Good to know it's not me. -
Saved to my "CoH stuff" file. Thanks.
-
Well it's good to know there is an issue. I haven't played in a few days because it was just unplayable on Freedom. I think I'll try one of the other servers later and see if there is a difference.
-
The Devs must have real-life "super idea powers". This is awesome.
-
I think the word we use is "soon".
Pretty exciting stuff if you ask me. I can't wait to do some "crossing over". -
Quote:That's what I meant.Uh, you pay for them?
However, you get free badges during your downtime between renewals. That was the point.
I can park every one of my toons in a day-job spot and cancel all my accounts. I'll have a shiny new badge on each one of them when/if I come back. -
Quote:Heck...they put in a bunch of badges for us to get just by logging off in certain places. That doesn't even require you to pay for an account.Wow, you seem disappointed that you would actually have to play to earn a badge.
Isn't that the point of the badge?
Playing to get it?
I serious doubt that the DEVs intended for characters to be parking online unattended in order to gain badges.
On that same note, stopping people from farming badges is only the tip of the iceberg as to why they might institute this kind of mechanic. -
Hey good thread. I gotta check some of these out.
-
I noticed the same thing on Freedom. Looks like a normal weekend so far. Only two Atlas Parks also. I expected 5 of them like PI used to be on 2xXP weekend.
But then, there are never more than two...and there used to be more than two PI's on a regular basis. So maybe there is an upgrade in there. -
Quote:Agreed. I just figured it out. Thought I was going crazy for a sec there.I'm here! I had a bit of trouble logging in, though, since my forum login info from before the move did not work with the new boards. I soon realized that I now had to use my game login info. Are they one and the same now, or are they still separate and my forum login info just ended up defaulting to match my game login info when the switch happened? Anyway, I think the problem I had is one that people should be made aware of.

If you have a handle you want, get it NOW, because you will not be allowed to redo your name.

I'm assuming if we're happy with our name now....we need to do nothing? -
I misunderstood. I thought you were going to use your own PC for it or something.

Don't know if anyone brought this up already...
A similar situation just occurred on another message board I frequent. (except 72 hours turned into 3 weeks)
Some of the members set up a temporary message board at "freeboards.net" (something like that). It worked pretty well as an emergency stop-gap to tide us over until the real board came back up.
Would something like that be allowed? (Am I allowed to mention it?)

Clearly you're not reading, I've already said I've tried numerous times searching for teams as well AS putting teams together. Get your facts straight, thanks!
I've bounced between four different servers so far and frankly, I'm getting tired of bouncing around. And for your proof that people are quitting, my global list is just about dead now when it used to be full with active members. I don't have time to sit around for hrs searching and trying to build a team with ppl that want nothing but ae. I'm sure it's different for you seeing as you're probably settling for whatever team you can find regardless of what they're doing, bs or not. If that's how you team then you know what, good for you.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can help you out on Freedom. Just sign on and watch the global channel while you check Wentworths or something like that. Someone is always starting a TF up. Or you could start one yourself and advertise there. I think it's RF2009.
Yesterday there was a Mothership raid and a couple TF starting while I was paying attention. I think they were even starting up a Shard TF. Someone was forming a badgehunting team redside also. This was all within a 30 minute window. (I started crafting after that and didn't pay attention) Freedom is great unless you go to Altas Park. (Even AP 2 isn't so bad) This is all a big improvement in my book. -

As of most people playing City of Heroes. They are getting sick and tired of constant farming in Atlas. Level 1-50 in a matter of days and people not knowing how to play there class. My idea is changing AE so all groups can only be level 50, no Auto SK and 1 boss per group. If this dosent work, i suggest removing AE. AE is ruining this game, i've been playing nearly 4 years and i want to be able to do Task Forces and Raids. Sure there are still Task Forces and Raids but not as many and the people who are level 50 and in the Task Force that have used AE to get to 50 have no idea what they are doing, please sort it out Dev's.
Sorry for any mispellings :P
[/ QUOTE ]
I would rather not do TF's with people that are being forced to do it because the thing they really like got shut down.
I've been on some amazing PuG's since AE started. Everyone seems to be able to do what they want....so if I'm on a PuG with other players...it's because that's what they want to do too. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, a huge number of people are in AP (or Cap redside) spamming broadcast looking for [this week's AE exploit] runs. This is a good thing - the average IQ in every other zone in the game has gone up three standard deviations, my tells are mercifully free of 'r u kin?' and 'fil plz', and I haven't gotten a blind invite to a PL team in forever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly.
There is a huge upside to this as well. It's like we got a whole new PI. I'm loving it. (and I don't really hate farming) -
[ QUOTE ]
Great points made. I agree - This is my favorite TF, second being LGTF and third STF.

Heh, I remember being a newb.... I had a grav/storm as either my first or second character (don't remember which), and I'm standing there in atlas fiddling around with my powers when I get invited to a team. Turns out we're going to the 'sewers', wherever that is.So we go in, and looking back on it now it was actually a pretty competent team. We all ran around killing stuff and leveling like mad, but as usual eventually people wanted to get on with the game and the team broke up. One team member told me to go get killed and I would wake up in the hospital outside. To my newbish self, that didn't sound like a very good idea ("why would I want to get killed on purpose?"
- it didn't help that at the time, the game I had been playing most often was diablo 2 on hardcore mode!), but I remembered that I had some sort of teleporter power that I had stuck on one of my alternate trays, so I used that.
Needless to say, I spent an awfully long time wandering around pocket D before I found the exit. Then, I had no clue which zone to exit into, so I ended up in faultline. I very quickly figured out that it was much too high level for me, but I couldn't find the pocket D entrance again. So I had to trek through skyway to the train - did you know that skyway is a very confusing zone to traverse on foot? And since it was the first time I'd used the train, I then got very confused as to why it wouldn't let me go in the out door. At this point, the most experience I had with the game was a couple hours watching over my brother's shoulder, which is the only reason I knew to take the train at all.I'm just thankful to the vet who told me that there was a train station in skyway, when I started asking in broadcast how to get back to atlas from faultline!
[/ QUOTE ]
Good stuff.
I took my first character to 50 because it never occurred to me that you could play more than one at a time or that you could give up on one.
I'm also glad I'm not the only one that got stuck trying to board the train from the exit. -
I hope that's the kind of noob I was.
But good lord...
I think I 4-slotted sprint because I didn't really know what else to do with the slots when I lvled up. (needless to say I needed a respec once I found out about those)
I had a full tray of inspirs and enhancements until at least lvl 10 because I didn't know what they were for.
Once I figured out to stick enhancements in those "slots" I used training enhancements until the 20s. DOs and SOs were a total shock to me. (the price on SOs seemed like it was totally out of reach when I finally found a store)
Reading the manual was no help....nor the tutorial. I was so new to gaming that even the most simple jargon was like greek to me.
But my most painful memory is being kicked from a team (the only time that has happened) in The Hollows because of the knockback on my powers. (en/en Blaster...sigh) They were apparently telling me to stop doing that but I had no idea what they were talking about. (It also didn't help that I didn't look at the chat box very much back then...way too busy looking at all the other amazing things) No doubt I was totally screwing up someone else's powers/strategy. At least the leader told me why he was kicking me for future reference....even though a big question mark was hovering above my head at his explanation at the time. "What are they talking about? What's 'KB'?"
That sense of rejection was intense. I still remember how bad it felt. I've never fully forgiven that powerset to this day and never play that character. lol.... I think I even suggested the ability to slot enhancements to stop KB. (not a popular suggestion)
edit: But that did make me the type of leader who will forgive the most egregious sins. I have only kicked people in the most extreme circumstances. (like afk in a mish when the mish ends and the team needs to move on to a new one) -

And to the OP: If that one guy actually knew he was a noob he wasn't that new. I didn't even know what that word meant when I started.(Or "nerf", or "powerleveling")
[/ QUOTE ]
There are different levels of "noob"... There's "noob" in relation to a specific game, and then there's "noob" in relation to the genre, and of course "noob" to PC gaming in general. Being a "noob" in a particular game but not in general PC gaming one might be more than passingly familiar with the jargon.

I was uber-noob. I knew NOTHING. Compared to me, everyone else was a vet. -

I've accidentally joined a few SGs and VGs, usually when I think I'm expecting a team invite and someone sends a blind SG/VG invite at the same time. I really don't know what the purpose to being in a SG or VG is at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't hurt anything to join a few VG's. When you find a good one (one you like), you'll be glad you did. The main perk is other players to help you and to team with you. It's a nice source of information when you have a question. Little things like where to go to get a new costume slot at lvls 20, 30, and 40 are nice to know. And you'll always have something to do when you log on.
Even a smaller group could be good if you like a more relaxed atmosphere. Just having one or two other people that you know in the game can make a big difference.
There are other things too like teleporters to zones (more important hero-side), inspiration bins, enhancement bins, crafting tables (for making enhancements), and the med bay teleporter option when you die. And some bases are just cool to look at....it's nice to have a place to call "home". -

Better remind him to get Stamina!

No kidding.
Some kind soul finally pointed that out to me when I was lvl 27 or so on my first toon. I couldn't understand why everyone else in the game was playing faster than me and I was still out of end all the time. "How are they doing that?" I would ask myself. I thought the Fitness Pool was a luxury. Why would I want to run slightly faster when I can have this cool new attack? (I still resent Health a little to this day) Of course my first toon was a Blaster.
And to the OP: If that one guy actually knew he was a noob he wasn't that new. I didn't even know what that word meant when I started.(Or "nerf", or "powerleveling")

The Fire/Kin era was PI. That's now over. Maybe this past weekend was an abnormality or something, but it looked like farming is a team thing now. The Fire/Kin is "king" of something that isn't done any more.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your assuming that nobody is solo farming lvl 52 lt's on a Fire/Kin. It's incorrect to try and predict what people are doing behind closed doors. You'll never know for sure.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm assuming nothing.
I'm stating very clearly that we do not have Fire/Kins running around dominating the farm culture any more. I'm stating that things have changed....dramatically. And they have. The whole farm culture is a completely different thing than it was a couple of months ago. If Fire/Kins are running solo farms out of sight then that is more proof of what I'm saying. Nothing in the game was more visible before...seemed like half the toons in PI were Fire/Kins. Now we have to "assume" they are out there still doing it? How is that not dramatically different than before? (Which is what I'm saying)
My Fire/Kin was the only one on the first farm I tried and I wasn't the lead/most important member of the team by any means. This new farming is nothing like the old farms. My Fire/Fire Blaster was more valuable than any Fire/Kin could hope to be. And Blasters in general seem to be in demand...which is kinda nice. Probably right after the Tanker you would grab Blasters I would think. Get some Controllers for immobilization, Defenders for debuff/buffing/healing and you're ready to roll. I consider this a vast improvement.
[ QUOTE ]
I always try to get any type of /kin or kin/ on a farm team. FS is the best buff in the game by farm. It maxes everyone's DPS. A Fire/Kin offers the best buff in the game, and DPS on top of it. So out of all the /kin or kin/ I prefer fire/kin.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm more of a /Rad person myself. Most versatile and stacks like no other.
[ QUOTE ]
I by myself on my plant/kin was able to ID a single scrapper to be able to withstand the alpha from a Lord Recluse mob and a Statesman mob.
Not buying it.
EDIT: To clarify, if a single /kin can ID a scrapper to withstand something like that then 7 /kins should be able to do so for the scrapper to take the alpha. Unless they don't buff or NONE of them didn't take ID. I find that highly unlikely.
I find it more likely that since they are fire/kins they are NOT used to buffing others and they didn't take ID. In that case ya, they need to re-roll.
Solo farming is NOT the same as farming on a team.
A team of fire/kins and a scrapper should HAVE NO ISSUE taking on lvl 54 bosses. Sorry. The amount of transfusions, transferences, ID, sb and Fulcrum shift, and stuns and immobs and imps going around should not give such a team an issue.
EDIT 2: Team farms in AE that are going after lvl 54s are VERY coordinated in what they do, unless they are utter and complete noobs. It's very easy to tell if such a team will be able to do it within the first few mobs. Just putting together any haphazard team and thinking that you can farm lvl 54s is foolishness that is common.
However, it is VERY easy if you pre-plan to build a EXPERIENCED team where SOMEONE on the team can take the alpha of a lvl 54 boss farm VERY easily.
[/ QUOTE ]
A lot of "smarmy" in that post!
I guess no one on that team shares your opinion of ID. Perhaps that power will become a standard farming power like some of the other ones were before. A "farm build" should include ID maybe.
The "issue" was that someone tended to die almost every fight....we able to kill them after that. /Kin doesn't stack well either....so 7 of them wasn't any better than 3 of them. 7 /Rads would have kicked the crap out of 7 /Kins, performance-wise. The recharge time was a thing of beauty though...sigh. Having the AOE hold up every fight was nice.
I'm certainly not re-rolling because I couldn't find room for ID. As a teleporter, I need Hover...which led to Fly (for moving fast inside missions...teleport sucks for that). I also love things like Bonfire more than ID...because it is great solo. (I open every Boss fight with it) My epic pool (psi) was also more important to me than ID. Sorry...it's my build and it's worked for years with no complaints from anyone thank you. I won't insist you take Bonfire, deal?
Your 2nd edit describes what I'm talking about. The common farm now is a coordinated TEAM. You also admit that the " haphazard team and thinking that you can farm lvl 54s is foolishness that is common". This was a quick pickup team that the leader thought would be fun. (remember fun?) He wanted an all Kin team. We managed to get 7 plus the lowbie Scrapper. That was all the thought that went into it. It doesn't mean "everyone should reroll". It just means that the Alpha was a problem and that there is a good reason why the standard farm team now isn't one Fire/Kin and 5 doorsitters. (It also could mean that most of those Fire/Kins were ex farmers who still think they are gods)
As you say, "However, it is VERY easy if you pre-plan to build a EXPERIENCED team where SOMEONE on the team can take the alpha of a lvl 54 boss farm VERY easily." That is the current climate in farming. Which is dramatically different from the Fire/Kin era where there was zero planning. You needed a Fire/Kin....end of "planning".
So to sum it up:
Pre AE farms-no planning...roll and Fire/Kin, get the demon map, and invite 5 people.
Post AE farms-plan or fail...grab a Tanker, Blasters, Controllers, Defenders....but you don't even need a Fire/Kin.
