  1. Scrappers have higher base damage numbers, so getting +65% (or whatever) damage means a lot more to them than +65% (or whatever) damage on a Brute.

There are some advantages to going Brute... especially if with IOs (I read you as a white-name first?). But I feel Scrapper is probably a stronger pick for that character.
  2. I'll stop my clocks at noon so I can be right at midnight, too.

  4. Your bread-and-butter powers are Corrosive Enzymes and Regrowth, and Spore Cloud and Lifegiving Spores are both good field effects. All four of those are up basically whenever you need them (even unenhanced, Enzymes lasts twice as long as its recharge). There's four very long recharge powers, but one's a rez (always are) and one's a long-duration power (sort of a 'regeneration aura' type power, but for +res as well as regen).

So that leaves Wild Bastion and Overgrowth. Wild Bastion enhances to about ~2min just on SOs... but to be honest, I feel it's skippable. It's nice to have the oh-crap button, but I think the raw healing the set puts out makes it kind of meh. Overgrowth is a much more interesting power since it's fairly long duration and a very good offensive buff. Even if you can only keep it at like 2/5ths uptime, it's still a great power.

Edit : Oh, as far as synergy. Well, I haven't played with it much, but it looks like a great support set for anyone. It's kind of clicky, so I'd lean away from Corruptor, but it's a very solid healing set with good +res. Controller is my first choice but you could make an effective Mastermind with it (especially with a KD pets, and you can supplement it with Leadership or other pools (I'm pretty curious how the new Presence is going to play out) to make a strong Defender.

    Proc trick tips?

Oh, I understand the Procs Per Minute system ( http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Procs_Per_Minute ), which is essentially what we're getting. I'm more interested in, like, putting the Numina's unique in a targeted heal or Kismet in Deflection Shield. I'm not sure what works, what stacks, and what's been shown not to work or isn't very useful.
  6. Delete the word 'simply' from #2, and I'd probably agree with #1. As it stands,

Simply stop suggesting things that aren't going to happen, and this won't be a problem.

    So, 22% to-hit

Kismet unique. Worth slotting, among other reasons, because you'll be getting 16% tohit if you team with a corr.

    Also, this thread is *hilarious.*

Meh. Pre-level 20, players have a tohit buff and DFB still awards at least a level and a half per run. It's 20-30 players tend to complain about, these days, and the best ways to solve that are really education-oriented. The game has the tools to make this manageable but players tend to ignore them or be unfamiliar until they've gotten to 50.

2.) Cut the endurance cost in half, and remove the animation penalty from all powers that miss.

There's nothing sillier than watching a low level character use Shadow Maul, have them know that they missed already, and then just keep punching.
Better solution: Don't have powers that work like Shadow Maul. There have been a number of Champagne Outline comparisons already, well, here's something they did right -- differentiating between click, channel, and maintain powers.

3.) Make the mez and debuff systems more reasonable.

I believe that all mezzes and debuffs should be able to be actively removed- My personal choice would be an intuitive pop up text that states exactly what debuff/mez you are afflicted by, and allows you to press a random key or sequence of keys in order to break the negative effect on your character.
I saw some bickering about this in the thread but you already stated it was a personal preference; one that's obviously not shared. ...Again, the game contains the tools to manage this, but you claim to dislike them. Fair enough, the tools are fairly binary.

I'd prefer non-binary mezzing. As a mez builds up, the character is afflicted by a slow, -rech, or similarly gradual-magnitude effect, which results in brief periods of immob/daze/hold, until it builds up to the point where the mez effect is overwhelming. This would still be highly frustrating in solo play (death spiral), so I wouldn't mind an inherent click power that allows players to drop mezzes and be immune for a few seconds to escape (yes, it works a lot like a mini-Breakfree, but I feel like that's an area where the game could use more options; we have Build Ups and click heals and so on and so forth, but I feel like Blasters, Khelds, and some other characters would really really thematically benefit from a Build Up Breakfree). I have no idea how this would work in PvP but I think it preserves the feel of the game a bit better.

    Quote:
The point is that this is a very dated and unintelligent aspect of the game. It's not fun or challenging to be told that you can't do anything, better luck next time, you lose. An active mez/debuff removal system is necessary in order to keep the game challenging while rewarding player skill and character strength.
The game does reward player skill and character strength. You should have come prepared for the enemy type you're fighting or taken Focused Accuracy. It just rewards the kind of skill I'm better at, not the kind of skill you're better at.

    Quote:
4.) No more unresistable, indefensible damage.
Arcana at one point posited a curved returns behavior for both of these that works somewhat more like mez resistance currently does. I agree with this suggestion although possibly not with her specific proposed curve. The idea was to create far fewer situations that require this behavior.

I do find it amusing however that you argue in favor of player reaction over mechanical preparedness through most of this post, but all of the situations with irresistible damage I can think of are the ones that currently do prompt players to react rather than relying on their build.
  9. You could probably make 200% to specific mez types (fear, immob, hold, taunt, placate, confuse) with the toggle or passive pool powers that grant 48-60% resists. Getting 100% vs sleep is practically accidental, thanks to the 48% resist everyone gets. Disorient resistance comes from Aid Self, but I don't remember exactly how the Medicine pool is changing in I24.

You most certainly can. Note that the 7.5% mez resist IO is non-unique and you can slot the 20% in the same power.
  11. Wait, your car doesn't do that?

(Rather than telling you all the ways you learn how to identify hitbox size as you play -- there are a few, one of which is the width of the existing reticle -- I'll just say I wouldn't mind a circular floorspace indicator if it's technically possible.)

It was a bunch of work going manually through all the changed set bonuses on the beta server, I have to admit...
Erk. As far as I know, those are not only not finalized, but definitely changing.

Oh, no, they just involve soul manipulation, life force, and negative energy, none of which has anything to do with spirits. Spirits and souls are actually quite distinct, you see. Because of Fred.

    Proc trick tips?

What are folks' favorite proc IO tricks with psuedopet and ally-targeted abilities for Defenders? How are people using the Bastion proc, or planning to use the new Absorb one?

Edit : Oh, and admittedly not a proc trick, but is it possible we'll actually see Absorb Pain getting used after the new fifth Medicine power rolls out?
  15. I think a lot of this is partially my fault, for how I introduced the topic of Lovecraft's racism into the discussion. I combined it with my claims of him being a hack writer who is credited for a genre he merely helped publicize (and yeah, I'll grant it's legit to dispute using 'merely' there).

I can't really go say, "Oh, no, Lovecraft's fine, just ignore those bits" because I don't believe any part of that. But if you are *aware* of these themes, I can accept subjective or scholarly debate on his quality as an author regardless. The one quality doesn't determine the other.

I called him "intensely xenophobic" for a reason. And it's not that shocking that the "real threats" are 'corrupted' white guys, while the evil minions are all minorities.

Look at any xenophobia story and the worst, most terrifying villain will always be a somehow-corrupted reflection of ourselves. Look at any xenophilia story, incidentally, and DANCESWITHWHITEGUYSAVIOR.

Lovecraft was extremely fond of white male adventurers. He idolizes men he feels fit this mould and writes of them in glowing terms.

  22. I slotted Blessing of the Zephyr into SJ.

You can slot that set into any travel power -- flight, teleportation, superspeed, or super jump. Use whichever you like.

Edit : The need for an on-demand heal is a general goal. In this particular build you don't get one. --I'm packing to go on a trip right now and I can't devote more time to the build, although I can hop on the forums to answer general questions for another hour or so. Claws or one of the other strong builders will hopefully be able to help you out a bit this evening.

Eventually someone will probably ask why I prioritized single-target attacks over AoEs. Although AoE threat is essential on a tank, I've found that AoE dps is superfluous (unless you're really built specifically for that, like a damage aura tank or a Staff tank).
  23. Grant Cover is really not optional if you intend to tank.
  24. My post was made well before those changes were announced -- and yeah, I was amused when they were.
