  1. Killerkitty, http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...postcount=1469 . I think that should answer both things you brought up...

...especially if I mention incidentally that WISDOM really *was* supposed to have a greater role, but technical challenges with making the powersets for the signature heroes prevented it. So we got Yin and Tub Ci running the Syndicate show.

The issue, stated baldly, is accountability. And that's something that has to be clear as soon as the funding gates are open.
  3. Oh god. Now I really am gonna cry.

"Updated Mids' to include Psychic Melee, Wind Blast, and Radiation Armor..."

I can't wait to see the Primalist.

I'm not going to have any more trouble doing either of those things than I will cutting off my foot when I don't do it. The client is getting mothballed on an SSD, and Mids'... I think I'll run it once a year, on the last day of the second to last month, with a good-size stein or wineglass or mug...
  5. I laughed when I read the 'too soon' comment. I don't know why that made it funny.

Thanks, Tunnel Rat. I feel like... you need a hoodie. With little mouse ears, and a star on the chest.
  6. Actually, (in TSW) the characters talking at you make fun of you for not responding. Fairly often. The game's pretty good at understatement.

I do find some of the puzzles frustrating from a feeling-railroaded standpoint. But it's nice to have such a change of pace.
  7. I'm with 2HB.

I thought about this when I came back, actually, a few months ago. If I really wanted to sink the time and money into a game when I knew that, sequel or shutdown, everything I worked for would be gone, every penny spent with nothing to show for it -- in what I thought at the time would be a couple of years, but still.

I came back, obviously. I... can't easily articulate exactly why. I guess the best I can do is just... here, take a look : http://www.amazon.com/Game-Developme...ref=pd_sim_b_7

...It's never gone. Dim. Washed in regret or melancholy or nostalgia. But not gone.

I have no roots here, not like other people do. I've never really been close with other players; a few, here and there, for one period of time or another. I haven't met any lovers through this game, like others have... or even really been a part of a group in a long time. Although I... I did really want to get back into doing weekly TFs with a regular group, and I don't think that's going to happen now. But there is still something about the memories I've made I will never, ever lose.

And I plan on taking a ton of screenshots.
  8. Alright, got it.

DM/EA. A combo I'd been thinking about for a while. Great mitigation, decent offense. I needed the most powerful name I could think of... thus was born:

    Parity Man.

  9. Dude, if this game's going down, I'm going out mid-Hamidon raid.
  10. An RL friend of mine who was having a rough time once said that he just hoped never to get to plan H, which was basically, "go out with a bang." I asked him what that made plan J, and man, if you want to see someone's eyes light up...

I gotta say, though, Plan N was pretty crazy.

Oh, yeah. I didn't mean the actual process of creating a legal corporate entity; I meant the process of chartering it, establishing the hierarchy and all that so we have a robust description of the operating procedures. I have a bug's-eye-view of what that must be like, but contemplating the whole thing is pretty overwhelming.
  12. Unlike Tony, I have basically zero faith in this, but I'm really good at working through my tears.

Whichever half of the glass you look at, having something to do to try and make a difference is infinitely better than having nothing to do to try and make a difference.
  13. Once we settle on a plan, I'm going to start rattling around here for people to make short YouTube videos about what they love about this game. I don't think even NCSoft lacks humanity. If all we can offer them is still less than a year's profits for the IP, this might make a difference.
  14. I'll be there for the Hami raid. And some RWZs. And who knows what else. =)
  15. I have a RL friend who I've been gradually enticing back to CoX; he joined about the same time as I did and has been playing on his Premium account with me lately.

Please, if there's any way, do this for all of us.

Sure -- or Paragon Studios 2 (working name) anyway -- and to grant that entity ownership of the CoH IP. But that's not going to be an instantaneous process and I don't want to see this end in a huge legal tangle. (So if for instance your corporation took temporary ownership of the IP, I'd want to look over your charter before donating.)

We could also just flat up incorporate a new CoH entity now with the *goal* of acquiring the IP for it, but I don't have the legal backbone to do that either.

Publishers are not important anymore for MMO's because of internet software delivery.
It's not just the box'n'ship angle we have to work with here; publishers are the 'banks' of the gaming industry. They provide capital, stability, and usually other resources (technical, community management, etc) to the development studio. I mean, sure, it's kind of a protection racket, but... there's an awful lot of thugs out there.

Once you pick a goal to commit to -- like, "Save Paragon Studios" -- you've got to really commit. Don't be so picky about the details; we can worry about whether the devil we're selling our souls to was really a tanar'ri later on.
  18. The very best thing you can do is to first, actually send the email. Even if it's something like,

"Please help save our community." You don't even need to talk about the game.

If you want to put a little more into it, share a short anecdote. He's (hopefully) going to get a lot of these emails, so the detailed history of your first 50 probably is a bit much to digest. But something you remember, something you can make a real connection with.

After that, talk a bit about your time spent here and your friends in the game. Talk about your weekly 40-person raid, if you can. It's an investment and as others have said, his company would be buying the loyalty of the community, so he's got to know what that's worth.

And last, and just as important as the first part, is to thank him for giving up some of his time to read it.

The other thing is... we're going to be doing a lot of this. So pace yourself. Don't pour everything into one letter to one person. Gabe's one possibility; the NCSoft petitions are one possibility; Turbine and EA and dozens of others are all possibilities. Hell, PWE is a (very very... uh, very, very... very remote) possibility -- it's not like companies only run one fantasy game, so there's a case to be made.

Just be ready for a lot of emotional exhaustion, really. It's a long road with no guarantee of success.

    Goodbye Triumph!

I still have global access to the fusioneer channels, even though I haven't been a member in a long time. And am mostly on Virtue, since I got back.

I think I'll put them back in a tab.

Yes, I'm afraid to turn around,
To watch you point and whisper like a child

Yeah, you've never been truly mine,

    I wouldn't want you anyway.

    Please leave
    Stay...
I promise I'll try harder now.
    You've made the cut
and stayed to watch it bleed,
    Just making sure
    Your secret stays with me...

    Someone.

  21. I was refreshing the Archetypes and Powers forum during a pretty stupid technical fight with UberGuy and saw Lobster's mispost.

    I miss that stupid fight.
  22. Look... I'm not saying it even could happen, but I'm in the same place as everyone here, wishing hard. Even so, we have to be a little practical. The community can't repurchase PS and all assets outright. We're talking a substantial fraction of a billion dollars there -- even if we get 10k people up on this, they'd have to give 50-100 thousand each to make it work. I know I don't have anything close to that kind of money. Crowd-sourcing alone won't win the day.

Here's what would get us CoH+:
    • Titan Network being incorporated. Are you guys? This is important because you're going to need to own something and it can't belong to any individual member of TN. I'm srs. The other option is for another incorporated body to step in here and TN to take on an organizational role.
    • Buying the IP from NCSoft. This relies basically on them being charitable, because we definitely can't make them an offer so good they can't refuse. Our best bet here is to get what money together we can and also start a campaign on Youtube of individual pleas to sell. Somebody call Michelle (Dark Respite)!
    • Starting another campaign to find a publisher willing to take on the project. This is the real money angle. We'd have to convince them that we can make this profitable over a year or so, but we'd need a lot of money upfront.
    • (Possibility) : They buy or license the existing engine.
    • Generating a new studio -- ideally comprised of as many PS/Cryptic vets as possible -- to either develop a new engine or continue development on the existing one. The financial arrangements at this point are a bit hazy; we might be "subscribing" with no actual product just to defray costs to the publisher, and there isn't a guarantee it'd work. But that's a bridge we negotiate the toll for when we get to it.
  23. My last 50+Incarnate is gonna be a Scrapper. I'm thinking Staff/EA/Leviathan, w/ Spring Attack. I know EA's got a bad rep, but I like the def-with-heal-baked-in, and we never did get Ninjitsu. Fire or Elec /SD/? is also on the table as a more conventional build but even now I shy away from intentionally going that route.

Staff/Regen would be an interesting challenge, but I'm not in the mood for a real challenge. I want to melt faces.
