If you get spurious checksum errors on pigg-files the following things can apply:
1. Flaky memory, solution: reboot - press F8 and select memory test from the menu or download memtest86 and create a cd that you boot from. Memory tests should run for a couple of hours. Possible solution: remove memory and clean the connectors with an eraser - make sure they are clean from any residue before reseating them.
2. Failing disk, run a bad block test: right-click the disk, select properties, select tools tab, click Check now.., deselect Automatic fix, select Scan for bad sectors. You can also download HDTune (from www.hdtune.com) and see the condition your disks are in.
3. Old BIOS that may have problems with Windows 7, update BIOS to latest version for your motherboard, tools & bios available on Asus' homepage.
4. Virus/trojan or other software interferes with CoX. Run virus & trojan scans. Shutdown any extraneous software then try to run CoX.
5. Misc. hardware problem. -
Quote:The certificate points to secure.ncsoft.com so I guess it's legit. Probably they re-used the certificate for the plaync domain.I tried to log into my account just now and got an invalid certificate error when connecting to the following site.
https://secure.plaync.com/cgi-bin/pl...language=en-gb
I've never had this before when logging in; I erred on the side of caution and didn't proceed, can anyone advise on this?
You can always login at https://secure.ncsoft.com/login instead to avoid the security warning. -
Dunno if this is cool but it's kind of interesting.
You can can travel to Talos from Peregrine without taking the ferry. Just follow the power-lines into the SW corner of the map and you'll get transported to Talos although you will end up in the water at the NE corner which is a looong way out. -

Quote:When I read that I suddenly realized that we really need a "head explode" emote in the game....The Television is playing a show about a time traveling scientist and his holographic friend. The idea of the show is that the genius scientist makes the world better by traveling to the most formative moments in other people's lives, taking control of their bodies and making their life changing decisions for them. In this episode, the scientist has taken the place of a female rodeo clown who is in love with a bull rider. The scientist's job is to make the bull rider fall in love with him since the bull rider would have had no interest in the rodeo clown herself.
'But I don't know the first thing about being a clown!' he tells his holographic friend while putting on a pair of huge suspenders.
'It'll be a piece of cake,' councils the hologram. 'We spent a year together on the Montana Rodeo circuit right after I was released from the POW camp and before you got your 12th doctorate. It'll all come right back.'
'I don't remember that. Oh Boy!' says the scientist as he is pushed into the arena.
'Don't worry! You're just like forum posters. Sure, they say hurtful things about not hating books and the radio. They're just confused. They need to spend more time with a good friend. A friend who knows them better than they do. A friend like the television. Don't you agree, forum posters? You should watch more television. And play red side.' -
Quote:I couldn't agree more. I had so many problems I went back to my old ATI-card that has half the performance just so I could play any game without crashes. So I'm likely to stand by my statement Nvidia's rivers aren't ready.
The problem with nVidias drivers are compounded if you have a multi-core system and I have't been able to run anything that was moderately graphics intensive until I went back to ATI on my quad-core system. Also, I cannot fathom why nVidia removed the theater-mode support on the second display. -
I'd try to get hold of an CRT since LCD uses fixed resolution and looks horrible if you aren't using a matching resolution on the desktop. The reason is that most elderly people tend to decrease the resolution so everything gets bigger and easier to read.

I was thinking that perhaps instead of giving out prices with monetary worth which leads to EU and RI folks is more or less automatically disqualified from participating, the price is a donation to a charity which the winner selects (from a vetted list).
That way the person who wins get to do a good deed and the kudos for making a great arc.
Good idea/bad idea? What do YOU think? -
Quote:Nitpicking: Actually Windows XP 32bit ed. can address 64GB memory but it's limited to 3.5MB (the restriction is determined by the type of license-key you use, there exists a hack that removes the limit if you would want that).Of note here: Windows 32-bit only supports 4GB of addressable memory. You have 1.5Gb locked up to video card space. Subtract out another 700-800Mb for other stuff running and you are down to about 1.7Gb of memory to do stuff with.
As others have mentioned, running 2 graphics cards or just dual displays with CoX can be the source of the problem. You should also run a memory check to see that the memory isn't flaky. -

My experience is the opposite. I had alot of problems with the old forum like pictures taking forever to load and the page getting interrupted during load.
In contrast the new forum is very snappy for me. -
Quote:Sorry, my bad. My recollection of what I did was wrong.I created a new user, same name, mynewuser and modified the shortcut as you recommended. When I click the second shortcut I get a DOS popup asking for the user password, I didn't not set one and so I press enter, the DOS window closes and nothing happens.
Here's how to do it:
Download PSTools from Microsoft and extract psexec.exe to somewhere, usually C:\Windows\system32 works fine.
Modify the shortcut for the second instance of CoX so the target reads as following (change to path to cohupdater if you have it installed somewhere else):psexec -u otheruser -p otherpassword -i "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe"
-
I solved that problem by creating another account on my XP and started the second instance of CoX with the other accounts credentials by using runas.
1. Creata a new account to run the second instance on, no password set
2. Create a copy of your current shortcut to CoX.
3. Modify the shortcut by opening up it's properties and change the "Target" to the following: runas /user:mynewuser "C:\Program Files\CoH\CohUpdater.exe" where mynewuser is the account you created.
(Make sure the path is correct)
4. Happy times! -
There can be several reasons for your problem.
o You may have a malware/trojan/virus on your system that affects it.
o You may have a proxy somewhere that affects your browsing. The old forum for example didn't like it if you browsed through a squid-proxy and stalled constantly.
o You may have a broken plugin activated in your browser.
o You may have some problems with your network.
o You may have a virus-scanner/firewall that acts up.
Look here for tips on how to check your computer for problems: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=126250 -
It seems the problem stems from the fact that the cookies is set for boards.cityofheroes.com and if you log into the site from any other domain (like boards.coh.com, boards.cityofvillain.com etc.) you loose the cookies.

Binds/macros and special chars
Server: Any
Zone: Any
Character name: Any

Location: Any
Mission: Any
Mission Contact:Any
Bug Description: Any bind/macro that contains certain non alpanumeric chars ('<', '>') is behaving incorrectly. A bind that has a beginchat statement and any of the special chars in the string gets the wrong length set so the cursor ends up after the end of the string. For each char the string contains the cursor ends up 3 chars after the end of string.
This can be verified by pressing left arrow x3 for each special char in the beginchat string before the cursor is visible again.
I haven't verified that this problem extends to other non alphanumeric chars but it probably does.

Limitations: Minimum 5 souvenirs/badges, max 15 per room bought. No limit on number of rooms bought. -
You can build toggles with the help of macros in combination with bind and skipping using different files.
Here is an example of my fly/hover toggle which I have on 'U':
[ QUOTE ]
/bind u powexec_tray 1 9
/macro ft1 "bind u powexec_tray 2 9 $$ powexec_name fly"
/macro ft2 "bind u powexec_tray 1 9 $$ powexec_name hover"
[/ QUOTE ]
I have macro ft1 in tray 9, slot 1 and ft2 in tray 9, slot 2.
I have some other toggles as well in tray 9 for toggling autofire on my powers.
I haven't figured out a way for executing a macro by it's name yet. -

Hehe.. I had quite fun at your ranting in AP1.
Dunno how many people knew where the name Walter Peck came from.
