How many old timers are there still around to be able to get the 60 months Vet Reward during this year anyway? I'm due for late June.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You'd be surprised at the number of early players this game has retained, or so I hear.

    3. If players were aloud to buy the rewards, I don't think they should be able to pick and choose. They would be aloud to buy them in order from whatever reward they are currently on. So if you have 9 months of Vet rewards and want the 24th month vet reward, you'd have to buy 12, 15, 18, 21, and then 24. That's $25 that just went to the game and that helps now, not in 2 years when this player will supposedly still be playing just so they can get this reward. Just don't include the Badge with the rewards, this way you can still see how long people have actually been playing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd be game for that .. it would appease a few of the Have-me-Nots, and provide extra income to the Dev team, which = more stuff for everyone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey your right, while were at it, why not be able to purchase badges, and alcolades, heck why not even levels?

I know I'd pay money to get to 50 higher, I mean all those power leveling companies are taking revanue which COH could use. Lets just eliminate the middle man and take that revenue.

    /sarcasm

vet rewards are just like any award, you should earn it to have any value.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Strawman argument Loses.

Veteran Rewards are not accolades, and no one is talking about selling Levels. And badges? There is no reason I can see, beyond Pure Vanity, to WANT to buy them, so no reason to sell them.

    Try harder next time.

  4. I deleted Wave Sine last night, if anyone wants it.
  5. Your "point" is to make it annoying to the players? Kudos to you. You really "Get" gaming in general, don't you?

It doesn't make the Hazard zones "more interesting". It makes them what they are now - Avoided by Many. If that's what you want, you already have it.

    Enjoy. Bye.
  6. Either they make their own ID, or they have to pay Influence/Infamy to get in or out, based on their level. Or Both even.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
The only problem I have with that, Prodiguy, is that I'm doing my best to add another element of difficulty into getting into the Hazard Zones. For Immersion's sake, if nothing else. These characters already have free access to, as I said before, 20 city zones.

I feel that requiring a short mission to get 'keyed' up for Hazard Zones is sufficient... but not less than that for my purposes. Initially I wanted them only able to enter through a sewer map or through the help of a registered hero.

The Mission idea was my farthest reaching compromise on that issue, but noone seems really willing to meet me in the middle, there. Risk Versus Reward is why I'm putting the Hazard Zones into such a difficult state. You've got all these other zones to play in, zones other heroes and villains will NEVER go to. You have to 'pay' for it, somehow.

    -Rachel-

    [/ QUOTE ]

And the only problem with THAT is that if you make something too hard (or time consuming) for the average player - they just avoid it. If it's too much "hassle" to go to those zones, the average player will just avoid it. The average player is like a lightning bolt from the heavens - they always seek the path of least resistance.

Sure, make them 'Pay' for it - but do it early, and make it quick. Locking people out of certain areas just because you think it's right for 'immersion' - it won't work for the general population, and it's really not fair to expect them to want to play the same way you do.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I like it - especially the concept of a mish to get forged documents. Their training mish or something like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That could definitely be something in their initial missions.

Contact 1: "Look, yer gonna need something to get you past the gates. Go to XXXXX, and talk to them about. Tell'em I sent ya."

Contact 2: "You need a working ID card, eh? Ok. I know a guy who knows a lady. They won't want to help right away. They might need some .. convincing. Go to *Location*. (Mission door, defeat boss, get Glowie #1 and 2)

Contact 1: "Good job, newbie. I think you just miught have what it takes."

Level Up to Level 2. Choose starting Location. Begin Fun.
  9. Objective Feedback 1: When teaming with my friends Monday nights on Villain side, great care must be taken to properly co-ordinate our story arcs, so that no one person gets slighted. Too often, we still end up with one person not getting merits during play. This is a regular group of real life friends, playing connected to Teamspeak - and even then we have troubles. I can only imagine what the average player on a pickup group might go through.

Objective Feedback 2: Hero side, My level 50 has NO story arcs left He's been done with them for a year now. His potential Merit Gains? Few.

*Task Forces that people might want to run over the course of a few nights, or late on Fri/Sat night .. in other words, Nearly None. I've managed to get on One TF like this since the new issue released.

*Giant Monsters: If I can find teams that want me along, I might manage to get a few Merits this way, but they are few and far between. And I can't go to Monster Island, because those are worth Nothing. Nice choice you made there. And the GM's I can get Merits from? In no way are the rewards balanced. Oh look, Lusca is being ignored again, because he's basically, what? 9 GM's in one? And you only get Merits for the last one? You put this content in the game, and then you purposely go out and find ways to DISCOURAGE people from doing it.

I can't team with Pick Up Groups, since I won't share their Merit rewards. I can't get any in Paper missions, I have none of my own left any more, and I am having a LOT of trouble getting into a TF that people will a) LET me join (i.e. I'm not an Earth Tank) or b) can be finished over the course of a few hours, or that people are willing to split up over 2 nights.

Solution: Provide more merit rewards for non-story arc, non-newspaper missions, and allow the whole team to gain them, either partially, or in full. Balance out the GM rewards a bit better. Make even the Monster Island creatures have a CHANCE at providing one. Lower the timer on Diminishing returns. Finally - Make Merits Transferable, tradable - like you should have from the start (Vanguard Merits too, dangit).

Subjective Feedback: How it Feels? It feels really disheartening and discouraging, actually. I feel as if I have little to no chance to ever gain any of the more desirable inventions. It feels as if I've been punished for actually playing the content previously. It honestly feels as if the only factor that was considered was "This Group of People are getting these recipes too Fast!", and instead of Fixing the Problem, you Butchered the system and put in a new one, with limits designed to specifically affect those individuals that were 'Too Fast', without a thought in the world about how it would change things for the Casual Player.

Heck. I can't even SELL or TRADE the stupid things. All I can do is just go about playing, and hope that I someday get something I can use out of the system. Currently, that 'feels' like it will be NEVER.
  10. Yeah - I would say give them some way to get there .. whether it's a Sneak in deal, or something else. People hate to be "Forced" to Team.

You could say that they do have a license - perhaps you just say that they have a Forged ID that they use. After all, there is no way those guards can keep track of Every Hero that passed the gates. I'm pretty sure that if they just see powers they wave you through. They are just there to keep the Norms and the sightseers out - and to sound the alarm if the Bad Guys start heading our way.

They are Vigilantes, outside the system - but they know how to use both sides to their advantage - but tend to not always follow the rules, so are less 'popular'.

The problem would be people using those characters as Wentworth/Black Market Mules, feeding either side with commodoties that are rare in one place, common in another. You'd have to find some way around that, as it goes against the Devs wishes for a seperate market place. Unless they merge the markets, which I wouldn't mind at all.

Inspired by this thread, here is my idea.

I say that the devs start working on CoH2, and the ENTIRE game will be the "end game".You can ONLY start a new character in CoH2 by permanently transporting a level 50 character over to it. Your character steps through a Portal Corp portal and ends up in a parallel Earth, an Earth that is meaner, tougher, and darker. In CoH2 Level 50 becomes the new level 1 in essence but not in fact. You keep all of your powers/slots, but now the game goes from level 50 to level 100. Your character can never be transported back to CoH1, which protects the balance of the low level game.

50 more levels of content, yay! Story continuation yay! People get to see the "level cap" raised, but in a different way than they would expect. And the whole game would feel "epic".

    [/ QUOTE ]

What you're describing is more of an expansion pack than a new game.

IMO: Not a great idea as a "new game". I'd rather see more time and energy sunken into CoX on its own, like a "premium graphics pack" that EVE Online initiated. If they push effort to a new game without terminating the old one, it'll split the population at best. And if they terminate the old game while it's still got an active subscription base, they'll alienate the population, at best.

If they revamp the FX engine and release it as a premium graphics pack, say as a $20 add-on code? It could add years of continuous enjoyment for the game with the added bling.

Yes, I said bling. I speak jive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are "Down with the streets", my good man.

    Happy Birthday too.
  12. I'd say it's a pretty decent idea over all.

I'd remove the "must have a companion to enter certain zones" part though .. In Hero Zones, they are a Hero, though maybe not Popular. Maybe - no special reward from contacts at the end of story arcs, and no bonus influence from Random Citizens you save? Less Influence earned?

In Villain zones, they would be allowed, but perhaps not trusted. Less Influence earned?

In PvP zones .. Hmm .. you would need to 'pick a side' when you entered ... I like your 'Turncoat' suggestion. It could lead to some interesting PvP angles, for those that enjoy it.

I'd also not limit the AT's as much. I just don't see the reasoning behind it.

How WOULD you handle Influence/Infamy? Would they need to have seperate totals for each?
  13. No CoX2, No Level Cap increase.

Having a CoX2 would just dilute both games, causing both to start bleeding players and revenue.

Level Cap increase would cause balancing issues, and would create an Uproar of Dissent such as you have never seen from many different people:

<ul type="square"> [*] Achievers: "I've been playing my Level 50 now for 2+ years, gaining no XP, and NOW you raise the level cap? Why do you hate me?!"
[*] Min Maxxers: "I just finally got my character Purpled out, and now they will be Useless?? Why do you Hate me?!"
[*] Crazy People: "Whaargarbl Fish sticks? The Moon! The color Blue? Why do you Hate me?! "
[*] Consiracy Theorists: "You've been planning this for years, haven't you? Why do you Hate me?!"
    [*] People who use Twitter: "?WTH?! Y U H8?!"
[*] The French: "Insérez une plaisanterie aléatoire au sujet de reddition ou de vin ici?! Pourquoi me détestez-vous ?!"
[*] Dogs: "Woof?! Woof Woof!! Whimper?!"
[*] Me: "I ain't paying for two accounts. What are you, nuts? Why do you Hate my Bank account?!"
[/list]I'm sure there are more, but you get my point. That point is .. I like pie, but hate the idea of a level cap increase or a 'spinoff game'.

Both ideas are poorly concieved and ill considered, with only your personal opinion of "fun" considered, not the health of the game in general or any other considerations.

Two thumbs down, 0 out of 5 slices of pie. Sorry.
  14. "I store Bacon in my Helmet"

"The Stars on my uniform? Both Detachable and Edible."

    "I Married a Rularru."
  15. We need more Giant Trophies that we can add .. They'd make cool Vet Rewards ... *hint hint*

Just not as big as that Dad Blamed Arachnos ship.
  16. Yeah, I have some strange ideas. Like, how many I can slot into Brawl. I'm just Odd. I'll just start working on my own lost, and stop being Lazy ;-)
  17. I was looking to see if anyone had put together a list of powers that could take multiple Damage Proc's. I guess not, or at least, not here. I'll continue my search.

Great FAQ, by the way, and a fun read, even with some quibbling ;-)

    Walk Button.

To add walking into the game we're looking at anywhere from 15 to 75 animations. That would get us a single 'style' of walking for the male, female, and huge player models. Doubtful that we'd ever be able to create a single walk animation that would make everyone happy...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Good point. I personally would lik a 'saunter' button

    [/ QUOTE ]
The correct answer is "assign the resources needed to make it happen". Multiple walk styles. I15.

It could even be done as a for pay booster pack, analogous to Prestige Sprints.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll hold out for a 'Sashay' button then.
  19. With the complete loss of Random Pool C's and D's, there will be almost NONE on the market on either side.. Few people, if any, will 'waste' their precious merits buying something just to sell it.

I see almost no upside to the new Merit system, and lots and lots of Downside.

If they at least kept the 'random' pool C, they would continue to hit the market now and then, and since Pool C drops are and will continue to be a MASSIVE Crapshoot (will that be censored,? It shouldn't be..) that no one will waste their Merits on, it will at least keep some of those recipes available.

I don't like this one bit. I won't get Merits for running other people's story arcs, there are no Random Merits, and any of the TF's that I CAN do in my limited playtime are relegeted to the minimum reward available.

This 'forces' me to actually do what I haven't in the past - run the same stupid TF over and over for the 'best' reward I can find, and 'forces' me to just do it with one character.

I don't like it, in any scenario I can imagine. I usually try to look for the 'best' in any situation. I'm having trouble seeing one here.
  20. Welcome aboard.

Now get back to work. ;-)
  21. Coolness ... I know I'll be writing some missions .. Looks like it will be a lot of Fun.
  22. I'll never need to purchase one, ever .. but I see no problem with charging the people who want to change powers so frequently. If they want it, they can a) wait b) Pay for it.

    Hooray Options.
  23. Nice .. the best of Both Worlds .. some free ones to start for everyone, extras provided as Veteran Rewards, and the Real Alt Hounds (AKA Loonies :-))* can purchase even more slots.

    Well played.
