I usually tend to mix and match unusual powersets to get as many different types of damage as possible. However, Necro/Dark goes really well together because of the "extra" pets and Merc/Pain would turn your Commando into a god with both Serum and Painbringer. Then maybe you could try to pick up some toxic or energy damage from your patron powers.

Ugh! Hated missing today but couldn't get on early enough. Will be looking for teams to do some of the arcs nominated for the MA Player Awards today from now until around 5 pm pst if anybody is interested.

Quote:Well if I was writing the Captain Awesome arc I certainly would have put in a greater selection of enemies to fight than the Face robots and the Great Face and that Tech Guy but I know I wouldn't have been able to be anywhere near as funny either so it's a mixed bag.Today was an absolute blast! It's interesting to see how differently we all judge arcs. Some focused on all the little details like bios or level ranges while others on the story and mechanics. Tho I think we all agreed that the Captain Awesome arc could needed a lot more work.
Best thing was actually going at a pace where I was allowed to read the clues, mish text, bios, etc and not feel like I was slowing the group down. I look forward to next week. Thanks WN for putting this together!
Really looking forward to tomorrow when I can get slot some enhancements to catch up with all the leveling we did. -
I also would like to join in as I have about 4 toons in the level 6-10 level range on Triumph that could use some leveling. Which would be better if there is room? Brute, Defender, Blaster, or Mastermind? Or does it just not matter?

Quote:Sure take the easy way out smarty. By the time I got around to him the rest of the mission was clear so that would have been boring. Sorry you didn't enjoy the arcs. I thought there were pretty fun.It was kind of funny when I fought him, he (just like every custom regen character) activates instant healing as soon as the fight starts. Then I just killed the mobs around him, went and completed rest of the objectives, came back and killed him now that the IH had worn out.
As for the arcs, I'm not very impressed. The only reason I saw them through was because they were quest authotrs and I thought this would be something unique. -
I'm surprised so many have negative attitudes about these guest author arcs. I thought they were all enjoyable enough.
Quest for Magic was great and while I did expect Irena's sudden but inevitable betrayal (tm Wash) the actual mechanism of it and how deftly it was handled was a pleasant surprise. The author is obviously a very good writer judging from some of the object and clue text which alone made the arc worth playing. Making the character feel more powerful than Statesman wasn't a bad touch either as often even Dev written arcs kind of give the impression that players are second string heroes at best.
OMG, it's the LOLBAT! had some clever tie-ins with clues and collectables to make the puzzles. I did run into trouble soloing some of the bosses but they were not insurmountable and would probably have steamrolled them with a decent team.
Rooster Teeth did indeed bring the funny with Mission Awesome and again just reading the letter from the Great Face made it worth playing for me.
The Great Face-Off Might be my favorite of them all though cause the mission where you have to bust the Great-Face out of prison was so much fun mostly because of the Uncle character being so cool. I have to say that I had a really tough time taking down Captain Dynamic given that he's apparently a Regen Scrapper or something and I had to use my tier 9 "god mode" plus nearly a full tray of inspirations to finish him off only then to be told that beating him was nothing special in a way that was very funny but also a tad too ego deflating for a game that's suppose to make you feel super powerful. -
I actually like Longbow but I'm in total agreement that Villains need a wider variety of heroic opponents at higher levels and the Legacy Chain and Wyvern would be perfect for this role. Maybe this is something that will be addressed in the upcoming Going Rogue expansion.
Editing cause I forget to say how hilarious the Princess Bride reference was. -
This is a very welcome addition to the dev's choice list. I just played it and it is indeed worthy of the honor. Any chance that the translation of the Legacy Chain into higher levels will become canon? Cause I'd love to fight them in zones and in Dev created mission at higher levels. Same goes for the Midnighter Squad.

Purely for role playing purposes I tend to think of the medical transport as being more like what happens to the Cylons in BSG every time they get downloaded into a new body--meaning that it hurts like hell and each time you "die" it messes you up mentally leaving you with all kinds of emotional scars.
I'd even favor some kind of game mechanic that would kick in if you get revived too often within a given amount of time that would give players a temporary minor debuff to health and/or other stats just to make things a little more realistic. This would be in additon to debt which can so easily be mitigated these day that it's almost painless. -
Why assume anything based on this thread? I sent my arc in even though it probably sucked and I bet a lot of other people did too.
-
Do I detect a hint of sarcasm? I love the guest writer program and I've played all their arcs and they are each very impressive in their own way but there are literally thousands of good arcs out there, yours probably among them, that I despair ever being able to get around to playing. No shortage of content anymore for this game. It would be nice if the Devs could manage to expand the DeV Choice list sometime though.

Quote:The fourth and final floor of Marchand's office still doesn't have a minimap availaible. Not as big a deal as with the lower floors since it's mostly outside but still it would be nice to have one. On a related note I can't seem to get the loyalists to spawn as an enemy group. Whenever I try it nothing shows up just as if it was set to empty.I thought they'd already done some work on that Marchand map. I know I was seeing minimaps when I poked around.
I'd also like to request the Sewer transition to Nocturne's escape point map that is in part 3 of the Rumblings of the Past arc given by Jim Temblor and the underwater longbow base map from part 6 of the Web of Intrigue arc given by Operative Vargas as they are two of my very favorite. -
I'd like some more maps of the Rikti War Zone- Especially the one of the Conference room that transitions into the Vanguard base from part one of the Dreams of Peace and Acts of War arc given by Serpent Drummer.
There is already one map that allows you to transition from indoors to outdoors in the MA system, it's Marchand's office map under unique maps, but for one of the office floors there is no available map to help people navigate through it which makes it problematic to use since the floor is somewhat maze like. If this could be fixed this map would be much more playable.
Any maps based in the Shadow Shard would also be most welcome. -
Thanks for these. That one of Wittylibrarian being trampled by the Paragon Protector's ambush is priceless. We tried to keep him alive but it just wasn't happening so much.

Definitely still interested in MA Monday! Maybe if people aren't producing enough arcs then we could just do the dev choice ones for a while? Anyway this has been my favorite event ever and I have to say thanks for all the wonderful and helpful advice people have given me about my arcs and also for making such fun arcs to play.
Here's another one of mine if anybody shows up next Monday or whatever.
Title: Fusionette Must Die!
Arc ID: 335253
Author: @Razor Vein
Morality: Villanious
Enemy Groups: Crey, Carnies, Reflections, Vanguard Sword, Longbow
Length: Very Long - 5 Missions
Summary: Basically you have to try to kill Fusionette while every hero & villain in Paragon City/Rogue Isles is out to beat you to the punch, with the usual twists and turns thrown in. Lots of named heroes and villains to fight ranging from around level 9 all the way up to 50+ but only a few EBs/AVs and even those aren't required to complete the missions. Does contain one "hidden" custom mob. -
Task Force Whoops could not be stopped! Not even a massive skyscrapper blocking one of our mission door would deter us! Seriously, that was just an awesome time. BTW, I dinged 50 durring the last mission and didn't even notice, lol. So thank you all very much.

1) @Witty Librarian - I am hoping to bring my original, the one and only Wittylibrarian (50 Energy Blaster) back out for this Shardtober run.
2) @ArtoriosRex, Scrapper (50)
3) @Jak O Lantern, Scrapper (40 by Sunday)
4) @Talon Arsenal, Blaster (50)
5) @Ready Aim Fire, Defender (50)
6) @Nyx Nought Nothing, I would love the Tanker at this moment, please confirm
7) @Beetle King (?), Controller (hopefully Level 40+)
8) @Razor Vein, Peacebringer (47)
Can't wait for this. -
Good luck. That's an awesome arc. I'm sue you will do well.

Wow! That did help. Turns out something called free camera movement under mouse options, which I never go near even with a ten foot pole, was enabled. Weirdness but thanks! Funny thing is that in the description of the option in question it just says camera will no longer automatically rotate when in follow mode but I never lost the ability to rotate the camera when following a mob or npc or player, only the use of the middle mouse button/page up bind was affected.
-
One a single toon of mine I've lost the ability to rotate the camera by holding down the middle mouse button. I don't have this problem on any of my other toons so my mouse is not broken nor are the controls set in the options menu any different for this toon than my others. The only thing different I've been doing with this characters is testing out my AE missions a lot and using the invincible and invisible toggles. Could that be causing this?
-
Definitely going to be getting the maximum number of arc slots eventually. When I'm done I hope to be able to level a toon from 1 to 50 playing my own arcs, without using power leveling exploits or getting bored doing the same thing over and over. It's really fun to tweak the game mechanics to do crazy things you can't with dev generated missions like if you want to assist a Winter Horde invasion of a Rikti base or build your own army of widly assorted Mastermind henchman to take down a GM solo.
By the way, Library Restoration Project is amazing. Keep up the great writing. -
I was saving this one for Halloween but might as well release it now so be prepared for a spoooky time!

Length: Very Long - 5 missions
Villains: Ghosts, Fir Bolg, Red Caps, Custom -
Quote:Got to say this part cracked me up. Ever played WoW? Software is software mate and there are always bugs right after a patch, WoW is no exception to the rule. Maybe some of the bugs you pointed out could have been caught but from what I gather the process of porting over from Test to Live or more likely just the stress placed on the newly recoded servers of having so many players on at once plays a role in revealing the bugs and so there's no real way to test for them all before hand.It is highly embarrassing to try to show some new players around, especially players from a highly respected and polished MMO, just to find out that something that's been working well for years is BUSTED just because someone decided to make some hidden changes. It is NOT a good sales pitch when your presentation falls flat on its face.
-
As previously stated while I'm all for changing the look of Granite and trust that you guys would come up with something really cool looking, perhaps the best solution to the lack of uniqueness some feel with the set is to allow Stone tankers more variety in the powers they select instead of their appearance? Maybe it could work like a minor version of what Kheldians or VEATS have in that they could unlock branching powers which would allow for wider diversity among the hulking big lugs?
-
Really? I thought it was just because the new forums can't support that kind of thing. Is trolls changing their names really gonna fool anybody? Is this even a real problem? If I recall of the previous boards you could just check to see what posts they've made even after a name change to see what their history was.
