    Smallville 4/29

Apparently the excellence of last week's episode was a complete aberration. The 300-style gladiator fight was well done but pointless. And, you know, rip-off of 300.

Supernatural saved the evening, however, with yet another awesometacular episode. "One shell, one shot." Heh.
  3. Yeah okay, that's pure wincredible right there. Definitely a Terrific Screenshot of Cool if ever I saw one.
  4. I'm going to the library soon. I will be strongly tempted to get both Transformers movies and count the explosions. I will likewise be strongly tempted to repeat Taylor's last line in Planet of the Apes.

The problem with CoV is that the story was designed the way a FPS was. Since that game was designed by a guy who made single-player games, that makes sense. Stupid hiring choice and a really bad game designer, but you can see how they got to that point.

The problem I have with a lot of the new Incarnate and morality mission stuff is that it's overstuffed with incredibly uninteresting verbiage. Half the time I just want to use the "yadda yadda yadda" emote when I come across one of those contacts. If you ever see someone shouting in broadcast, "GET TO THE POINT!", that's me yelling at a particularly verbose NPC.

Also, a lot of it reads like a mediocre mission in the AE.

Devs, stop trying to explain game mechanics. That's utterly unimportant. (And take out the ones that are in the game. They're stupid.) Also: brevity is better.
  6. I used to love the story. When I hit the reveal about the Rikti, that was completely awesome.

When they started adding things that dictated not only what my character did, but who my character was and how my character felt, that's when I began having a disconnect and became discontented with it. Now I'm sad to say that I skim it for the plot and try to avoid details since 9 times out of 10 they aren't going to complement my character at all.

If you don't read the story, that's fine, but I prefer if people had the OP's live and let live attitude and stopped judging those of us who solo because we want to read the story. (Something you can't do on teams because you have neither the time nor the ability if you aren't team leader.)

The furry feet I'll grant, but I have to admit, that a striped cat tail didn't even budge my "must have" meter. Certainly didn't make the top five.

Like, the regular wolf tail added to the animal pack, and the ability to make THAT striped. I hate the bagworm tail, so my Akita goes tailless as does Razor Raccoon. My second biggest "must have" for the animal pack is a shaggy fur option for the body, arms and legs. The tech is in the game, just add it to the pack already. The third one is clawed hands to replace the Claws powerset. The fourth one is ape parts; a face, if not forearms. Fifth would be the feet.

The difference being that when you criticize the game and you criticize your wife, the game still lets you play with it.

She said she just wandered around marveling at how great a lot of the zone looked once you could actually see it. So what I would like to see is either an event that would temporarily turn off the fog for everyone in the zone, or an arc that would make the fog clear just for your team. I bet that a lot of longtime players would love to see what's under all that gloom.

The fog and gloom is removed from Dark Astoria and the sun shines once again. I think it would be a great way for a player to feel heroic and like they actually changed something in game. Of course, this all resets back to the fog so others can complete it as well but I think the effect would still be there. Much like Recluses' Victory and how the zone changes. I think they missed the boat with not implementing more of that mechanic throughout the game.
...and just from a story perspective to explain game mechanics the way War Witch seems to love like a fluffy bunny toy, just make the "sunshiny Dark Astoria" a temporary victory.

"Well hero, I don't know how long it will last, but for right now the fog is gone and the gloom has cleared. Even if Lughebu's followers regain their numbers, at least for the people here now, you given them back the sun."

Player leaves DA, reset. Problem solved, no new artwork needed, just a new series of missions. Maybe with a few unique maps the way Faultline got.

*"Competitive" does not necessarily mean PvP.
But "competitive" in an MMO is code for "suxxors." Who doesn't love waiting around in other games for glowies to respawn, only to have them snaked by other players? Boy-howdy, I sure do!

Same here. And as populous as the EU servers might be, they ain't got nothin' on Freedom and Virtue. I am salivating at the prospect of finally getting some of the names I've long wanted to use.
  12. Bay's Transformers 2 explosions got him into the Guinness Book of World Records. How's your cartoon stack up against that?

I can't get behind this notion of a guilty pleasure. By its very definition, a guilty pleasure has to be bad. Maybe not completely without redeeming qualities, but it has to be "not good" in and of itself, and that includes within its own genre. I mean if someone who only watches anime gets stuck watching Citizen Kane one night and remarks, "I actually liked that movie, funnier than I expected. Who knew the film widely considered to be the greatest movie ever made was actually good?" So I can't endorse this particular definition, sorry.

    Battlefield Earth
    Catwoman
    From Justin to Kelly
    Gigli
    Glen or Glenda
    Glitter
    Hardbodies
    Howard the Duck
    Lawnmower Man 2
    Leonard Part 6
    Leprechaun 2
    Roadhouse
    Showgirls
    Troll 2
...anything by the SyFy Channel, or Global Asylum.

Now that I look at that list, Hardbodies isn't looking too bad.

    ...no, it's pretty bad.

    Argh.
  21. Speaking of Herb Trimpe, my copy of the Incredible Hulk featuring the Bi-beast's first appearance had its cover torn off and eaten by my cousin when he was just a baby. Dude just ate the whole thing. My cousin offered to buy me a new one, but I bought both the comic and a candy bar for a quarter, so I figured it was no big deal. Years later I met a guy who was willing to pay two grand for a copy of that issue. Stupid babies.

See, now Terra has the idea. This is the very definition of a guilty pleasure: one of the worst movies ever made, which actually has congealed stupidity stuck to the walls of its set. A movie which manages to get both physics *and* metaphysics wrong. Liking Event Horizon is the intellectual equivalent of enjoying a root canal without anesthesia. Guilty pleasure, you're doing it right.
