Quote:I guess the implication is that they are smart. The one that always bugged me was, "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV." Oh, so you don't even claim to have brains. Okay.Off subject a little: Which is I never gotten statement like "I'm have a PHD and I'm a medical doctor and I think the Cadillac is a fine car." I mean, what the hell do being a doctor has to do with anything?
Google has nothing to do with Facebook - two completely separate companies. Not saying that Facebook doesn't pull sleazy garbage; just that Google isn't behind it. -
First and foremost, are you still playing City of Heroes?
Yes.
How often?
About the same as previously. I have regularly scheduled stuff on Tuesday evening, Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
What do you do when you're online?
The usual. I like task forces a lot. Tip missions with my brother since he has some toons he wants to change alignment.
Will you be here on Nov. 30th?
In general, yes. Will I be online when the servers shut down, I dunno. What day does it fall on?
Do you have plans to play any other MMOs?
Yes.
Which ones?
Dunno yet. I and a couple of friends are evaluating possible games to migrate to.
Did you have an account in that game prior to CoH's demise?
I don't play any other online games.
Do you have Steam?
No.
Do you want to share your Steam ID?
What do you generally play through Steam?
What about consoles?
None.
PS3?
360?
What is your PSN ID and/or 360 Gamer Tag (again, if you'd like to share)?
What do you play/plan on playing? -

Frankly, it's barely (if at all) relevant to a discussion of the profitability of Paragon Studios. The big cost is personnel (salaries, offices, insurance, benefits, etc).
-
Sure, but the only track record to go by is of games that were dying, and everyone knew it. CoH was doing okay so the situation is different. The IP actually has significant value right this minute, which will steadily decline over time. It will never be worth as much to a potential buyer as it is right now.

I can bring Doctor A Noobsauce - beam/traps corr.

Quote:Your numbers need to take into account that some portion of those 80 personnel were NOT working on this game. They were working on a new project and, therefore, their costs should not be attributed to CoH. Unfortunately, we don't know what percentage of the staff was on the new project. My "back of the napkin" accounting is just like Brillig's. 2.5M USD per quarter income, for $10M per year, 80 heads at $x annually. What is "x" is what we can't answer. I'm going to arbitrarily call it $150k/year, because that's a number I'm familiar with for an area that's slightly less expensive than the bay area for a similar talent pool. 80 * 150k = $12M. That's a loss. I see some folks showing frustration at the line "the game was profitable" when there is just no indication that is true. I've stopped fighting that fight, to be honest. It's sort of like arguing religion at this point. Folks seem to believe what they want to believe, regardless of the proof presented.

Quote:Exactly correct. I did not go "out of my way" to the thread to correct them. I corrected you because your error was in a thread that I was reading closely. And when I pointed it out, like I said, and you seemingly overlooked, still did not go, "oh, they mispelled per se." And I bet by now, you still didnt even bother to go out of your way, to the thread and correct them.
By the way, most of the time when I correct someone, it's not actually for their benefit. It's for the benefit of the unknown number of other people who may read the thread and not know any better. It keeps other people from learning something wrong. -
Quote:Yeah and, in my opinion, for something that was unnecessary. Tanks are my favorite AT. I think tanks are fine as they are. I imagine your response will be along the lines of, "You must be an idiot if you couldn't see the problems with tanks."Stop and think for a second whom you are speaking to.
I lobbied non-stop for five years, more or less alone, for what is admittedly a ludicrous cause for most people. Uphill, against pretty much everyone.

Quote:No.Hold on, aren't they the same thing? Beta, Training Room, Test...?
Test (AKA the training room) has the same software build as live.
Beta has a different build with 'beta' (not yet ready for live) stuff being tested.
I have all 3 installed: live, test and beta. -

Quote:Or he just wanted to tell you the post was too damn long. Once you post something in an online forum, everyone and their dog has the option of commenting.I am intrigued though that, with you not even a factor in the conversation, you invite yourself into the same boat, making sure everyone knows you didn't read a post that for your part wasn't directed at you. Which means by your own explanation, you are not nice, and by implication you are a troll, which may or may not be true of him but would definitely be true of you since it's how you feel about such behavior.

Quote:Except that negotiations to this end are currently taking place, so someone who matters doesn't agree with you. There is no logical reason NCSoft would sell or license the game/IP.
And there is a good business reason to sell it NOW. It has value NOW. If the game is shuttered, any potential value will decline steadily over time. -

Reading comprehension fail? I SAID I didn't even see their mistake because the post was about PvP so I didn't read it.

Quote:Except multiple reports from people we trust. It's okay if you don't trust or believe those people. We don't mind. You know, hopeful rumors are fun to spread, but there is nothing to prove this.
Months. All the people getting antsy after just 3 weeks have no clue. -
I don't see why. The refunds are nothing to worry about. They're completely irrelevant to the demise or survival of the game.

Oh man, everyone just needs to have mercy on me and stop with Professor Farnsworth. The "Good news" line that sticks in my head is the one where he is handing Fry an 'oxygen pill' and it's huge (I think this was the episode with the lost city of Atlanta).
Fry says, "I can't swallow that."
The Professor's reply is, "Good news, then. It's a suppository." -

Oh, it's not about being the better person. If you really didn't want a derailment or an argument, you wouldn't have jumped in with both feet. The length and number of your posts about this really make it seem like you were itching for an argument.
