Quote:It's not "WoW culture". I've never played WoW but I recognize the value of a tank or DEFENDER (not "healer"). If I have a bunch of blasters, I try to get a tank or defender. Otherwise, I'm going to have a lot of dead blasters.Recently I have noticed a rise in the "We need a tank!" or "We need a healer" mentality, even from people I would consider as veterens with 30+ months under their belt, or otherwise intelligent players who have the awareness to join TF related chat channels.
I'm just wondering, will we ever shake this? Is the 'Wow Culture' just too hard to fight against?
If I'm going to be doing a TF with a powerful AV, I want a tank. Or a defender with strong debuffs.
And, referring to your title, a team with a tank, DEFENDER, and 6 DPS is a pretty nasty team.

Quote:Top sign of an SG that sucks. A good SG isn't about accumulating prestige; it's about the people in it.There's one level 50 player who immediately tells me to get into SG mode. Farm prestige for the super group.
You don't give a percentage away until you hit level 25. Most SG's expect you to be in SG mode until level 25, since it costs you absolutely nothing. A good SG won't expect SG mode after level 25. However, I think most people stay in SG mode permanently. I certainly do. Inf is just so easy to get in this game.Quote:I like having tons of influence and not giving a percentage away so some yahoo can practice landscaping some virtual garden.
After multiple paragraphs of rant, apparently not.Quote:Is there anything else I really need a SG for?
Because, in my opinion, you're doing it wrong. Try it this way:Quote:I can't seem to understand the point of them in City of Heroes. I feel like I must be missing out on something great since everyone I know is in a SG, but every time I join one it's either completely dead or it's the same scenario as above.
1) Find people you enjoy teaming with.
2) Play with them a while. Become friends.
3) Ask to join their SG.
Joining a random SG means you'll end up in one that's really trying hard to recruit. Most of the heavy recruiters are SG's that suck. -
Sky? No. But there is a way to give the impression that there is sky 'up there somewhere'. Simple method is to have a ceiling that looks like a ceiling and then have a raised section with some kind of grid or cross-pieces and make the main color very light so it looks like a skylight with frosted glass.
More complex method is to fill the raised section with light fixtures so it looks like sunlight coming in through a skylight.
As for an outdoor feeling.... well, have lots of plants and trees and cover the ground with rocks and dirt so the floor is not visible. The trees all sway in the 'breeze' - even indoors. There isn't really anything you can do about the ceiling. It would be nice if we could get a stars texture for ceilings so it looks like a night sky. -
I have a better idea. Ask on the forums and we'll answer on the forums so everyone can see it. Lots of people may be interested.

Quote:Yes. Please note, though, that when I say "gap of one quarter inch", I don't mean a 1/4" hole. It needs to be wide, like the crack under a door. Also, I'm not talking about big, fat lab mice. I'm talking about field mice - like 2" long (not counting the tail). They have very flexible bones and can squeeze through a gap of one quarter inch.... oh, wait... that's mice.

Quote:It means the name check tool stinks. Just make a new character and try to get the name in question. That will tell you DEFINITIVELY whether it is available. If you can get it, just delete that character to free it up again.Sorry one more question. I was checking the name on the server and it told me the name could not be checked. Does this mean that it's already taken or was there just an error and it couldn't find out?
No. One transfer is for one character. -
Well, Manticore tomorrow and Numina next Saturday. I have time to think about what to do next. Or maybe we should do Katie Hannon after Manticore.....
-
They could always skip it initially. I generally don't take the taunt aura or Taunt when they first become available. I'll often take Taunt in the mid/late teens and the aura at level 22 since survivability takes a big step up when you get SO's.

Quote:I have TWO like that.I even have a global bind that reloads my global bind file in case I add something to it. haha

I have one general bind file for all toons. I load that on all new toons, and it has binds to load chat settings and some other stuff, plus a ton of binds I use in-game.
Then, some characters also have a character-specific bind file. -
Quote:As far as I can tell, it's not that simple. Based on my experience, it works as follows:I have a total of 1951.7 HP, which is 613.1 HP more than the 1338.6 the wiki lists for a level 50 scrapper.
That means that if an attack hits me for 1060 points of damage, only 447 should count towards my damage badges.
1) If you take damage less than your bonus hit points, you get zero badge credit.
2) If you take damage significantly exceeding your bonus HP, you get full credit.
3) If you take damage that exceeds your bonus, but only by a little (say 1-20% or perhaps a bit higher), the system is completely wonky and unpredictable.
I was never able to figure out the exact details of case #3, primarily because I didn't try very hard. Once I realized that there was some kind of 'edge condition' behavior, I just made sure I was taking MASSIVE damage. On a BS/regen scrapper, I would use a high level Rularuu Brute. They have one epic melee attack with a long recharge. A single hit would do around 80% of my total HP. -

That's not your only concern. On a large team you'll have enough mezzers that they have a decent chance to break through your protection completely.

I dunno. -
Quote:Bull.... you have seriously never heard of Slashdot, Slashdotting, or the Slashdot effect?
That's sort of like going into a computer store and asking who Microsoft is.

Interesting. Those notes say:
Quote:and, the patch notes from June 23rd say:Fixed a bug that would cause attachments to be lost if an email was accidentally sent to an invalid name longer than 21 characters.
Fascinating. Sloppy patch note procedure?Quote:Fixed a bug that would cause attachments to be lost if an email was accidentally sent to an invalid name longer than 21 characters . -
Yep. I would recommend:
Inf Badge Seeker
AE Anonymous
Infinity Hamidon
There are certainly other good ones, but I'm on these three and like them a lot. -
They will also generally work for a while if the base power goes out then is restored.
-
I use my left hand for moving and activating most powers.
- default movement keys (WASD etc)
- my most used powers are in slots 1-5 of the first two trays
- standard use of Tab, custom targeting on alt-Tab, Tilde and alt-Tilde
- binds for Sprint, Ninja Run, Teleport, Recall and vet attacks with the left hand
My right hand operates the mouse for:
- mouse look
- infrequently used powers
- using inspirations
- sometimes for steering, particularly if using Superspeed -
I couldn't find any patch notes, either.
And the post about the down time explicitly states, "Patch notes will be available after this downtime."
What else is new? -
