Quote:I did Moonfire on Friday and Saturday and had 8 people both times. I did Manticore on Sunday and we got enough to start that (7). Maybe there was some kind of event going on while you were recruiting, or maybe you just had bad luck.Sunday I ended up with one teammate trying to do a WTF. I didn't time how long we tried (yes, using global channels), but since I was in Striga and playing a transfer from redside, I decided to work on my atlas medallion. Killed 200 each of wolves and vamps with a MA stalker and never even got a third member, let alone enough people to actually start.

Quote:It's true they can only do so much, but it seems that *A LOT* of people missed any announcement. I think their highest priority should be to fix their email announcement system. I rarely get their announcements, yet I get every single confirmation from the NCSoft store. This suggests that one of those email systems is faulty. They can only do so much. It's not their fault if people miss announcements by simply not reading announcements that are on the launcher before they start the game.
People are simply complaining they missed an announcement because they didn't read the announcements.
If they had that email system working reliably, THEN any failure would rightly be placed on the players because it is IMPERATIVE you have a valid email address on file.
ooooooo Good one! I didn't think of that. And it's quite possible that they have the system set up so that in-game 'ads' would override the player settings. That's how I would have done it. If we're going to post important game news on the billboards, rather than paid ads, I would have it ignore individual 'opt out' settings.Quote:why didn't they put it up on all the billboards in the game?... I mean after those 2 RL ads ran there haven't been any other ad dropped on the billboards. If you can't get real companies to shell cash for your ad space, then use it yourself....
but that would require the players to have "in game ads" enabled... oh well. -

Merging tables qualifies as 'mucking' with a database. What SnowGlobe described is very routine. I do it every day at work. Well, not every day but it's not a big deal.

Quote:And if they don't visit the forums or web site, how would they know of the 'established method'? What if they don't even know that the forum EXISTS? I certainly didn't when I started playing. And since this was my first online game, it never even occurred to me that the forums might exist.(shrug)Quote:Don't take this personally, as I'm making a general statement here.
But this sort of comment just *astounds* me in this day and age. Generally, if I want to know about something, I end up (a) googling it, or (b) sticking it (or its company's) name up in the address bar with a .com at the end.
And I first went online with a 1200 baud modem so I'm not a newb to this. In the absence of any actual problems (the game worked perfectly for me on first install), it never occurred to me to go looking for news. -
Quote:Oops, I didn't catch that in the initial mention and I quoted it that way.Based on above comments, does that mean that Infinity Badges has been replaced by Infinity Badges 2?
I'm not logged in now, so I can't check, but I think the name is actually Infinity Badges 2.0. Hopefully someone will be along shortly to confirm or refute this. -

I think a lot of people are listed as logged in to the forums while they are off doing something else. I have seen a number of people, who I know don't 'live' on the forums, showing as online for most of a day. Also, while I normally log out when done, I have been known to alt-tab to another application and forget I'm still logged in.

Quote:Analogy FAIL.So, by that logic, it's the fault of Pepsi, Honda, McDonald's, and just about every other company out there that I don't see their ads, even though it's MY choice to not watch TV, and therefore never see those ads?
I was referring to communication by NCSoft to EXISTING CUSTOMERS. You're talking about advertising. -

You know, people still seem to be missing my point. Someone (or some group) in Marketing have the job of getting the word out about these things. They failed. Putting it on the customers is irrelevant. Someone at the company failed in their job.

And since this was my first online game, it never even occurred to me that the forums might exist. No I'm putting personal responsibility on the customer. If a company establishes methods to keep its customers informed and they make the choice not to use them they can't blame the company when they miss something.
We're hearing complaints from people who really wanted these things, i.e. MOTIVATED people. The company failed those customers. The customers simply didn't know what they didn't know. -
I didn't get any. I get less than half of their email announcements. And they're not disappearing into a spam folder. I have NEVER missed a single email from the NCSoft store, yet these announcements rarely reach me. Conclusion: they use different email systems and one of them stinks.
-
Quote:No, because:If people missed the sale after it was announced in the updater, emails, and on the forums/website then I think it's fair to call them lazy.
1. The email system stinks. I didn't get any email about and it was NOT due to any problem with my email. I get less than half of their announcements.
2. If someone doesn't visit the forums, how would they know to look at the forums to find out about it?
I would think anything important should go in the global message of the day. I haven't seen that being used much lately. -
-
And I'll say again, this is wrong. The company tried to communicate something and FAILED. Their marketing department wasn't trying hard enough and/or doing it right. Blame the players all you like, call them all the names you like - the company still failed.
-
Don't give me that BS. "Lazy slob" is a euphemism and you damn well know it. I don't post lies so don't slander me!

Quote:You keep putting the failure on the customer. This is wrong. When a company runs specials, promotions, sales, etc, their GOAL is to ATTRACT ATTENTION. If they are not doing that, then they have FAILED.Call it sloppy if you like but that's my opinion of anyone that complains about missing a sale or event when they can't be bothered to check the sites provided them to keep them informed.
If you're running a special and try to get word out to your customers, and most of them don't hear about it, then YOU HAVE FAILED. Call the customers lazy if you like but the COMPANY has FAILED in their goal. Rationalize it all you want, but the bottom line is that the sales/marketing department blew it. -
Nonsense. Ask people for opinions and recommendations. This will give you a decent chance of finding a good SG *BEFORE* you start joining random ones. You will have better odds of finding one that suits you - particularly since everyone's definition of "best" will vary. Do you want an SG that does a lot of task forces? One that role-plays? One with regularly scheduled events? One that makes a point of mentoring new members? The SG ranking tells you about NONE of those things.

Quote:I'm on that one and like it. I'm also on:I prefer Infinity Badges 2 for the public channels. There are others but the names escape me at this time.
Inf Badge Seeker - A 'badge' channel, but all TF's and many arcs have badges.
Infinity Hamidon - A 'raiding' channel, but general teaming the other 160 hours of the week.
AE Anonymous - For all teaming EXCEPT AE stuff.
Good channel - I'm a mentor on it, but it's cross-server. The ones listed above will give you the most 'bang for your buck' for finding teams specifically on Infinity. -
Particularly since the person selling the IO's may just be some random player, rather than a 'marketeer' or 'hardcore' player.

Quote:uh huh......Market griefers, I mean flippers, are the cause of high prices. The devs need to do something about them. I'm tired of being forced to pay such high prices on IOs I need to make my build respectable.
But in this thread:
