  1. I have a MacBook (one of the new white ones) hooked up to an external monitor. I would like to run City of Heroes full screen on that monitor, but leave my laptop screen available for other applications. Is there a way to do this? Right now all I can get is either full screen (CoH on one, blank on the other) or windowed (which is either too small or cuts off part of CoH).

Can I get just-one-full-screen? Or can I at least get a resizable windowed mode so I can use most of the screen without cutting anything off? I'm curious what the options are, and my search-fu hasn't lead me to any other threads about this yet.

    Thanks for any help!

I apologise if I offended you in some way.

You didn't offend me, I just didn't see the sense in what you were saying.

    1. just because you have AM and speed boost, doesn't mean that I want AM or speed boost.

    2. when your invitation to "omg gather for AM plz" is politely declined, it is bad form to call me an idiot. because then I'm less inclined to pull the mob that you aggro'ed off of you while you're screaming for heals.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wait, so you assume no one wants AM and Speed Boost and should have to ask your permission to give them, but you turn right around and assume everyone wants your heals so bad they're screaming for them? What if someone said to you:

    1. just because you have Healing Aura and heal other, doesn't mean that I want Healing Aura or heal other.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Would you think they were an idiot? Seriously, it's only good sense to want powers that help you, and think teammates who refuse help and thus don't contribute as much to the team are doing something wrong. You don't want people to get killed by overaggro and not having your heals, they don't want you to heal too slow because your recharge and endurance aren't buffed.

    That's awesome! Thanks!

I'm using it as my avatar on the Repeat Offenders forum. The auto-resize here squashes it into a square; I'll have to make a resized version some time.
  5. I agree with Kensei that it is annoying when an entire chat channel is flooded with nothing but names and archetypes. It really can take up a lot of unneeded space and drown out actual content. I wouldn't set someone on permanent ignore over it, though. I just ask them to use a quieter macro until they need to broadcast their name.

I like your macro, Camo_Fire, thanks for sharing it. It's very similar to one I use. It's useful to have a macro that automatically begins a message to a frequently-used channel. I suggest people who like your macro try one like this:

/bind KEY beginchat send "CHANNEL NAME HERE"

Substitute KEY and CHANNEL NAME HERE as appropriate. This will start a message, but not add your name and archetype. You can add the following bind (my own variation on Camo_Fire's) for use when someone announces a team, or otherwise needs to know what you're playing:

    /bind ctrl+KEY beginchat send "CHANNEL NAME HERE" [$name: $level $archetype]

Most of the time, use the regular key to send messages. When someone needs reminding, you can hold control, hit the same key, and your vital info is there for you. Presto! Saves clutter, still makes sharing info easy.

    Enjoy!
  6. Note: you don't list "Pet" as one of the windows, but your first example scales the "pet" window.
  7. Castling would be "ingenious" if it were a maneuver you could perform with the normal moves of the pieces, and someone had just noticed that moving the king like this and then the rook like that provided amazing defense in tough situations. (Watch, I picked the wrong two pieces or something. I haven't played chess in years.) But castling is a special case in the rules. Using a special case in the rules isn't ingenious, nor is adding one. I'm sure I could add some useful rules special cases, like the "rearrange the board so you have checkmate" maneuver.

"I won using the Iron Yeti proviso. Ingenious!"
  8. OP: Mr. Forum Poster, how many holds does it take to hold a Brute?

FP: I never made it without dying, ask Mr. Controller.

OP: Mr. Controller, how many holds does it take to hold a Brute?

MC: Let's find out. One, two, three.

    *Squish*

    MC: Dammit. REZ PLZ!

How many holds does it take to hold a Brute?

    *Squish*

    The world may never know.

Yeah, but who carefully scans their iconbar after every fight?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I actually check it constantly through a fight, to see what's affecting me at any time, and how much of it is new or negative.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you have a quick way of telling which of those icons are negative or "bad stuff", please tell me!

I'd pay more attention to my icon bar if it had more useful, accessible information. As it is, the only thing I can reliably use it for is re-applying any teammate click-buffs, because I know specifically what icon to look for. Anything else, unless I have exhaustively memorized my teammates' powers and their respective icon, I have no idea if it's friend or foe without a right-click and reading.

The devs made a promise that PvE changes would not be made solely for PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You'd love it if that were true. The developers have a job to do. They do it the best they can. They tell is the guiding principles they're using, then go ahead and do what they have to do. If you read every explanation of "probably, we expect that mostly..." as a writ-in-stone promise, you're going to be disappointed. Not just with the CoH devs, but with most of life.

    [ QUOTE ]
I guess all their promise meant was that they would never *admit* that they were making a change solely for PvP.

This is such a blatant lie that it is insulting to our intelligence. Do they actually expect us to swallow the lie that Storm has suddenly become overpowered for PvE?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, the patch notes say explicitly that this change was solely for PvP. It doesn't say that the change carries over to PvE... but it doesn't say it doesn't, all it says is the power changed. Since the power exists in PvE, we shouldn't be surprised that changing the power changes PvE. Furthermore, we have no idea how hard it would be for the devs to change Hurricane in PvP and not in PvE. That might be a lot of code. Would you rather have the developers put off all power fixes for several months while they code a new PvP/PvE distinction in their powers? Or have them make a few changes like this so massive bugs and exploits can be fixed?

The developers do a LOT for us. Try to recognize that there are tradeoffs in everything they do, and give them at least the slightest benefit of the doubt once in a while.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
That's not the same thing, Yeti. The Repel effect, while pulsing at a slower timer, still pushes back enemies at EXACTLY the same rate as before, just not as continuous because it pulses slower.

The Repel effect of Hurricane IS the same strength. You think that Castle said the power is exactly the same strength. That's not it at all. Castle stated that the Repel is the same, though it ticks more slowly.

I don't have any issue with everything else you said, but calling Castle a lier because you didn't understand what he said, just rubs me the wrong way.

    [/ QUOTE ]
First of all, I didn't think Castle was a liar, I thought he was gravely mistaken. I have yet to see a case of the developers lying to us, whatever anyone else might say. I think they just get caught up in a release schedule and don't give everything due thought.

Second, it's their job to post diligently as red-names. That includes making themselves understood through clear, unambiguous statements. I see now that there was an alternate interpretation of Castle's statement that makes more sense - but it's not my job to go digging for it. I'm going to react to what's said, and if I misinterpret someone (like you) can clear it up later. Besides, you don't know for sure which way Castle meant it. I might still be right.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
PvE repel is exactly the same strength as before. Yes, it ticks more slowly, which is a double edged sword -- it costs you less endurance to maintain, but it's not quite as good defensively.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Okay, first of all, this is entirely false. Let's try a thought experiment. Take (for example) the Fire Blast powerset. Now, decrease all damage its powers deal by a factor of 10. To "compensate", decrease all of its endurance costs by a factor of 10. Is it still "exactly the same strength as before"? No. Of course not. By the same argument, _Castle_ could say taking the power away was "exactly the same strength as before": it's zero times the power, and zero times the endurance cost. The fact is that Hurricane was cut in power - gutted, even. It's not a "tradeoff", it's just much weaker.

And the patch notes were misleading. I'm not happy with that either.

I tried using Hurricane tonight in the "stop 30 Fir Bolgs from entering the Door" mission. Several white-con minions just walked right by me, untouched by my constantly-on Hurricane. Others got far enough that by the time it pushed them, they were on the other side of me and it pushed them toward their goal. The repel tick is simply no longer fast enough to do what it's meant to. I appreciate that Hurricane also has range and accuracy debuffs... but I'm not playing a debuff powerset. I play slows and knockbacks for a reason: positional control. Please, restore Hurricane for PvE.

Yeah. I think just about everything in the game takes hoards of programming, nature of the beast. Wouldn't you just like a little peek at the flowcharting diagrams for the game?

    [/ QUOTE ]
omg god no. the flow charts for this game would be freaking huge. just trying to trace the functions would be nightmarish

    [/ QUOTE ]
Flowcharts? Is it the 1980s again?
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Well thats one way to scare away all the casual PVP'ers. there go the easy targets...

    [/ QUOTE ]
What are you people talking about? Why are there PAGES of this stuff? I'm at best a "casual" PvPer and this dev ruling doesn't deter me from PvP at all.

What is the BIG DEAL about debt? Noooo! I have to play the game MORE now! DOOOOOM!

Haha shields just a primary attack for scrappers. "I use this shield to bash the heck out of stuff. Oh no, they are throwing a knife at me...I better use my super reflexes so I don't get hit"

    [/ QUOTE ]
Bad example since you have already extended the shield and would probably be best off actually dodging the attack in question because you couldn't pull the shield back in time to properly deflect the blow.

    [/ QUOTE ]
He wasn't talking about the precise moment of an attack. It's silly to consider a hero who attacks with a shield and never defends with it.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
That would assume that snow and ice would be around longer than a few weeks every year.

I swear Paragon City is perfect setting for a new weatherperson fresh out of weatherperson school...

"Today, it'll be sunny, followed by more sun tomorrow, with a 100% chance of sun through the weekend. Except for Dark Astoria. You guys are screwed.'

    [/ QUOTE ]
You've got the weather report all wrong.

"Good morning, folks. Today, we're starting out with bright sun, clear skies and a balmy temperature."

(A group of Outcasts begins fighting the Tsoo out the window behind the weatherman.)

"Looking forward, we can... wait, what was that? There was a lightning bolt outside the office! I'm hearing gale-force winds and rain! Looks like we have a tropical storm... in the middle of Steel Canyon? What is going on?"

    *RUMBLE*

"And now there's an earthquake! Oh my God, the skyscrapers will... well, actually they look fine. Folks, this is the strangest localized earthquake I've ever experienced. We all have to take cover!"

    (Five minutes later)

"Well, I'm glad to see we're all ok. Anyway, looking ahead, for this afternoon, we should expect to see... what? Wait, it's evening? How'd it get to be evening! This is the morning broadcast! I'm only on for 10 minutes, why is it evening? My God, the Sun has fallen from the sky! Flee for your lives, people, the Earth is going to... who are those people with the cowls and the daggers coming out of the shadows? What IS that green glow?"

(The weatherman proceeds to get the tar beat out of him for 15 minutes by the Circle of Thorns. As dawn comes around again, the Madness Mage fixes him with a stare and a Psychic beam. The weatherman looks dazed and the Circle of Thorns recedes.)

"Good morning, folks. Today, we're starting out with bright sun, clear skies, and a balmy temperature."
  18. How would Shield/Shield work? Simple, the tanker blocks with it, then hits you with it. Repeat.

I'm waiting for the Shield Sledding travel power, myself.
