Making your info appear next to your name-channels
I have talked to some people using this guide, which I am happy about. I just want to remind everyone that if you have any questions or comments about this guide, message me ingame at @Camo Fire or post here.
Wow, over 150 views and no posts? I know people are using it, but could I get a good job Camo =P
Don't actually do much specific channel chatting, nevertheless..

Wow, that's neat - completely forgot about those variables. That's definately going into a SG channel chat button - it will make organising things much easier.

Personally, I find it very annoying when people do this, and /gignore anyone that does. I don't need to know your level/arch/powersets/whatever every time you say something in a global channel. It throws off formating and can make it difficult to pick up what people are actually saying when I have to skip the first half line of chat.
If people really do care what character you're on, they will either have /gfriend'd you, be in the same sg, or just ask. In any of these cases it's extremely easy to find out who somone is on as.

The binds are just used for conveiency. Yes, I made that word up. If it does exist, I spelled it wrong. I try not to use the bind all the time, just when I need it. But it is so convenient to just hit a button and everyone knows who you are.
I will add into the guide that You can also use this bind to make it so you don't have to hit tab, channel name, then type. And not have the info there. Thanks for the idea Kensei.
Edit:Im having a repeated problem. I can't edit the first post. Any ideas?
I personally really like the chat channel information. Been using it for awhile now. It saves time in my opinion, and I have little problem reading the chat channel messages. I use the 4 tabs and redirect all my chat channels to them. Piece of cake.
When I post that a team is forming, it's nice to know immediately what name to invite instead of having to ask each time. Also, when other people post about forming teams, it's nice to see what level they are.
Also, I like to keep up on what people are playing even if they aren't in my global friends list without having to ask.
I'm a big fan of chat info in messages. I just wish there was a variable for the server you were on. But oh well.
Well, im glad people are liking my guide. Im gonna be writing a FIre/Ice Blaster guide when Im done training my controller, so keep an eye out for that =D
good job camo

Wow, that's really anal of you. Formatting your info in the chat channel is a HUGE help to those using the channel to form teams for TF's, SF's and the like. Those people usually DON'T know everyone in the channel and need to know that information when building teams. Having the info in there saves time and unnecessary repetition of the same questions: What level are you? AT? Powersets? Toon name? Etc. Especially for things like the STF where people are looking specifically for Rads, Stoners, Blasters, etc. It's a great idea and more and more people are using it to great effect. If you weren't so ornery and hateful maybe you could see that...
Oh and good job Camo.

Yay, I feel special. Remember if you see people on any of your channels trying to figure out how to do this, send 'em to this thread =).
I agree with Kensei that it is annoying when an entire chat channel is flooded with nothing but names and archetypes. It really can take up a lot of unneeded space and drown out actual content. I wouldn't set someone on permanent ignore over it, though. I just ask them to use a quieter macro until they need to broadcast their name.
I like your macro, Camo_Fire, thanks for sharing it. It's very similar to one I use. It's useful to have a macro that automatically begins a message to a frequently-used channel. I suggest people who like your macro try one like this:
/bind KEY beginchat send "CHANNEL NAME HERE"
Substitute KEY and CHANNEL NAME HERE as appropriate. This will start a message, but not add your name and archetype. You can add the following bind (my own variation on Camo_Fire's) for use when someone announces a team, or otherwise needs to know what you're playing:
/bind ctrl+KEY beginchat send "CHANNEL NAME HERE" [$name: $level $archetype]
Most of the time, use the regular key to send messages. When someone needs reminding, you can hold control, hit the same key, and your vital info is there for you. Presto! Saves clutter, still makes sharing info easy.
Enjoy!
I team with the Repeat Offenders.

I'm not ornery or hateful, I'm just pointing out that many people are annoyed by having to see a character bio everytime somone types 'lol' or any other non-team-finding-related comment. Having spent some time asking people not to use aforementioned binds and not getting results, it's infinetly easier and faster to put them on global ignore.
There's no reason to insult someone simply because they have an opinion different than yours.

will do Camo I still don't see why it's annoying, which comes down to a matter of choice on how you view it, but in consideration to other players I'll use it for informational purposes only. I really like the bind because I modified it so that when I'm playing my Kheld, I can shout out at my Kheldian Brethren without having to switch tabs
"I'm all about the Hugs and Cuddles baby!"
The last sentence of DarkDominion's post basically explains the point of the bind, if you don't use the info part of the bind- Don't take the time clicking tab and the name of the channel just to say one little thing, just hit a button! Now you can't say that's not convenient.

The way my SG uses it we just tag our SG & Coalition chats. You may not know everyone in the Coalition & SG so it helps to know who is saying what. We also have multiple SG's across servers as well.
More weight is given to someone with more experience I guess. We don't use it for global or local so that it isn't annoying to everyone that we don't know.

Your global ignore list must be rather huge. I'm art of group lists where almost everyone does that.
Hating everyone who does this out of hand like that... sounds rather anti-social to me.
I suggest perhaps that you use "*" as your ignore expression.

That's an exaggeration. A name, archetype and level are hardly a "bio". Your implication is that you're being flooded with pages of useless info each and every time someone uses this macro. It's been subsequently shown to you that the information can indeed be useful, though you've chosen to ignore this fact because you can't get over being annoyed by two words and a number.

This says a lot more about you than the people you're whining at. As I said before, to ignore people out of hand in this way is very anti-social behavior, against people who mostly only want to be helpful and share. Do you fly off the handle like this with every other little thing that annoys you? And I'd dare to speculate that you have a lot of things that annoy you.

Hypocrisy for the win! First you demonstrate how annoyed you get over rather trivial things (that are helpful and harmless), not to mention being rather vociferous about it in a helpful and social thread, and then you become "insulted" when someone points out your rude behavior.
Humans. You know I like them!
On a few channels I belong to, there is alot of people asking how to make your name appear each time you talk on the channel. I decided to help others who have this problem by posting how to. This is done in 2 ways, a bind or a macro. Here is the bind I use, and remember LBX IS THE CHANNEL IM USING THIS ON, NOT SOMTHING YOU PUT IN EVERY BIND. Enter the channel you want to say your info on in the "", NOT LBx. This goes for all the binds and macros I say on this page.
/bind t beginchat /send "LBx" [$name - $level $archetype]
This makes it so that when I press t and type and hit enter, it will look like this in LBx chat:
Camo Fire: [Camo Fire - 50 Blaster] My Chat
Now, im sure some of you are wondering, what does the $archetype, $name, $level, etc. mean? Well, if you type $archetype and click enter into a chat, it will automatically be replaced with what archetype you are. Here are some $ commands you can use-
$name
$archetype
$level
$origin
$target(displays name of your target)
Now, let's say you want to speak into a channel the way I explained earlier with a macro. This makes a button in your power tray that acts the same way as a bind. Here is the macro version of my bind I said earlier-
/macro LBx beginchat /send "LBx" [$name - $level $archetype]
This will make a gray button in my power tray appear that says LBx on it. When you click it, it will do the same exact thing that would happen if I hit the button for my bind.
Now what if you dont want to just have your name, archetype, level, origin, etc. in it?
In the bind and macro, where you see [$name - $level $archetype] you can instead put anything you want in there, which will apeear in the chat. The $name $Level and $archetype was just an example of what I use.
These binds and macros will also work for any chat. A
Sorry for any confusion in this guide, I will try to revise it to make it easier to understand. If you have any questions, post here, or message me ingame at @Camo Fire.
