I apologize for coming off slightly frosty. Late night and brevity don't make a good combination, heh. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was groovy. & uh, GO VA! I live in Richmond, born & raised. I love Busch Gardens. Howdy neighbor!
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, the mistake is mine. In my mind, a true Perma-Elude build would not need any other defence toggles or passives, and would therefore indeed be "hiding in a corner" between Eludes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I don't think real perma-Elude is possible w/o outside buffs, & I would still keep the other toggles because I'm a worry-wart, hehe. I only even looked at that build because a friend asked me to try & max out his positionals because he knows I'm an IO build junkie. I knew that he used to run actual perma-Elude back-in-the-day, so I ignored the conventional route & went straight for that goal. Needless to say he was pleased; when I told him I didn't know whether he was going to pee his superpants or cry...
[ QUOTE ]
Now you have misunderstood me too. I'm talking about soft-capped defences 100% of the time, not 85%.
[/ QUOTE ]
So I misunderstood you misunderstanding me...Hmm, ok, so, I'm pretty sure that means... I WIN!!!Or something like that, idk...
[ QUOTE ]
Of course, we're talking PvE here. I know nothing about MA/SRs in PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, well my friend PvP's quite a bit, & massive to-hit buffs>defense in PvP so w/o Elude you're toast if your opponent has a lot of to-hit. You still may be with it (Geas is broken, by the way), but you don't even have a shot w/o Elude if they just throw a lot of debuffs on you & pop a few yellows.
I just left a thread about how perma "God Modes" (Elude & Unstop) in PvP is unfair & needs a good nerfing. I would run perma-Unstop in PvE if I could, hehe, too bad it doesn't exist. *sigh* But I digress...
As far as EC is concerned, I personally adore the animation & can't wait until my MA can take it. But I'm a sucker for big-hitters; I get shivers every time I use Headsplitter, ET or TF, so...Funny aside to the +recharge build: After we talked about it my friend logged off for the night, then came back on like 5 minutes later & sent me a /t that said: "Hey, could I get off 2 Eagle's Claws & a Crane Kick in 1 BU cycle?" I said "yeah, I think so"; he said 'SWEET!!!" & logged again, lol. Style over substance, can't beat it! -
[ QUOTE ]
Perm-Elude is really severe overkill (and slightly problematic) in PvE, and given my extremely limited PvP experience, I considered it beyond the scope of what I was going to write about.
[/ QUOTE ]
First, this is NOT a criticism of your guide, at all, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just mentioned the near-perma Elude route because it IS possible & may be desired by some players, whether for PvE or PvP. Also, even for PvE purposes, I don't believe in "overkill", period. If you can feasibly do it, there's really no reason not to. & for PvP purposes, against certain opponents, out of Elude an SR is a punching bag.
[ QUOTE ]
If Perma-Elude were truly possible, Hikaru, it would be a great respec build. But the Elude downtime in actuality is much too long for PvE, so just soft-capping all positional defences is probably a better idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, you lost me. How is Elude being down for 1 min & 22 seconds "too long for PvE"? Maybe you misunderstood my premise; it's not like you have absolutely no defense whatsoever during the time that Elude is down, you would have a normal 33-35% positional defense to all when Elude wasn't up. I'm not advocating an SR running around "naked" & toggle-less, hiding in a corner after a drop waiting for Elude to come up again.
As far as soft-capping being a better idea than near-perma Elude, I'm at a loss to understand why I would choose to have 45% defense 85% of the time (& then popping Elude when it's up), rather than have 105% defense 74% of the time & then 33-35% defense the rest of the time. How is that a bad thing? -
Kind of surprised that no one has mentioned a near-perma Elude build yet. Fastest recharge I've personally heard of on an x/SR is 255 seconds (75 second downtime), but I know nothing about the build specifics on that toon. I know someone with an 80 second downtime Elude recharge build on their MA/SR, & I just did an 81 second downtime Elude recharge MA/SR build for a friend.
The attack chain is still good & nothing is "gimped"; the only real concern was managing the frequent drop, but since the recharges on Elude & Conserve Power were made to coincide, that problem should be essentially solved.
The only downsides may be the build's cost & how bad defense IMO is borked in intrafaction PvP, but if funds aren't a problem & you're not going to be PvPing against a lot of FA+Tactics+Membranes in BU+Geas using Heroes, the build should rock. -
[ QUOTE ]
I myself have pretty much given up on this TF every succeeding when I'm on it LOL. I've tried it about 6 times, all failed, all with different team combos (and all with damn good players) Of those 6 times we've gotten to Recluse once. The resto of the time we just wipe, wipe, wipe, face plant, wipe. I've usually run into the problem that if we have enough debuffs, we don't have enough damage and vice versa. Do I want the stupid badges: yes. Do I want it enough to do this again: probably not for a good long time LOL.
[/ QUOTE ]
Our STF runs never take longer than 1 hour & a half, with a best time of 53 minutes. I'm currently 29 for 33 as far as sucesses & failures, with all of the failures having taken place during the first week of I9. The STF is very doable with almost any team make-up, but a little min/maxing here & there just makes it go faster & smoother.
If you're interested in discussing some tactics/strategies, send me a PM. I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to sucessfully complete this TF in a jiffy the next time you attempt it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I find it very annoying when people do this, and /gignore anyone that does. I don't need to know your level/arch/powersets/whatever every time you say something in a global channel. It throws off formating and can make it difficult to pick up what people are actually saying when I have to skip the first half line of chat.
If people really do care what character you're on, they will either have /gfriend'd you, be in the same sg, or just ask. In any of these cases it's extremely easy to find out who somone is on as.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, that's really anal of you. Formatting your info in the chat channel is a HUGE help to those using the channel to form teams for TF's, SF's and the like. Those people usually DON'T know everyone in the channel and need to know that information when building teams. Having the info in there saves time and unnecessary repetition of the same questions: What level are you? AT? Powersets? Toon name? Etc. Especially for things like the STF where people are looking specifically for Rads, Stoners, Blasters, etc. It's a great idea and more and more people are using it to great effect. If you weren't so ornery and hateful maybe you could see that...
Oh and good job Camo. -
[ QUOTE ]
God, you'd think that newb/noobs would have a better reception, but obviously I'm asking the wrong questions in the wrong place.
[/ QUOTE ]
(From The Urban Dictionary & Wikipedia) You, are a newb or newbie.
Newbie (n): a newcomer, novice or inexperienced player that strives to learn more and become better.
I don't think you are a noob.
Noob (n): a clueless player, especially of a MMORPG; someone that lacks intelligence or common sense. Noobs are usually ignorant, selfish, annoying and excessively stupid.
Do not confuse newbs with noobs, there IS a difference. -
Ok, I'll bite.
[ QUOTE ]
So this makes...3 issues straight where nothing appeals to me, and nothing is offered for any of my toons' level ranges. Keep giving more and more and more to the minority of players and nothing to the majority. Great. So any news on Issue 11 having something that the average gamer can, oh I don't know...actually use?
[/ QUOTE ]
So. Last 3 Issues, huh?!? So that goes back to Issue 7, correct? And WHEN was that released? So between the beginning of the release of Issue 7 and the release of Issue 10 (God-only-knows-when), you won't have a toon over Level 35? And that's somehow Cryptic/NCSoft's fault? If you have altitis, that's YOUR fault, not the games'. Oh, I consider myself an "average gamer"; I'm what they call a "casual player". I usually only play 2 days a week. And I have toons over L35.
[ QUOTE ]
So what about new power sets...or costume pieces? Just keep stockpiling stuff for the higher level toons aka the Vocal Minority. Why should I be glad that nothing is being offered to me for the 3rd straight issue?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, "Vocal Minority". By this, I'm guessing that you mean the elite "few" of us who have toons over L35. You make it seem as though that's some sort of magic level cut-off point. There are more players with toons that high than you may think.
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, yes, they are in the minority. I guarantee that the breakdown would show my point. Level 1-10 would have the most, followed by 11-20, and so on. It's common sense. It's easy to see, like it or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
And your logic behind this reasoning is: WHAT?!? That most of the players playing this game are all under L10? And somehow, to you, that makes sense? Even a casual player can go L1-10 in a day or 2. You make it seem as if toons stay the same level forever. It doesn't work that way. Players who get to L15-20-ish and then stop and make another toon are altaholics. They may not have a high-level toon, but that's their CHOICE, not because of some restriction within the game itself. People complain about bogging down in the middle-to-late 30's, not before, up to that point IMO the game's a cake-walk.
[ QUOTE ]
Are you going to sit here and try to tell us that the majority of toons aren't lvls 1-10? Go to Atlas and take a look around, and then stroll into Eden and look around there. Also, I'm sure there has to be a breakdown somewhere where we can settle this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Go to Atlas, then go to Talos and look around. Again, your logic simply doesn't make any sense. From my experience, there are more players 25-30+ than under. And again, no one stays under L10 forever. Do this. On any given day do a "Search" of Levels 1-10, then do a "Search" of L30-50, then compare the numbers. I do this all the time when looking to see how many players in my level range are online ; and no, it won't count the players who are hiding, but there's always a large (since I9, even larger) number of people on in that middle-to-upper (L25+) level range. No, I don't have a numbers breakdown and I doubt anyone else does either. But your assertion that lowbies dominate COH is spurrious. I have 2 accounts of alts over 20, and though I've been playing longer, I have limited time to play. Check the vet badges on some of the toons in Atlas, some of those toons are altaholics, so they do have higher-level toons. All lowbies aren't newbies, and even those that are, they don't STAY that way.
[ QUOTE ]
I ask: Is there even 1 thing that a toon under lvl 35 can do? Because the way I see it, you can't even enter the new zones unless you're at lvl 35+.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a better question: What is there for a L45-50 to do? PI? FBZ? The Shard? Ooooh, RV, if you pvp, which many don't. The same Praetorians over and over again, ad nauseum? Besides the STF and to some degree Inventions, when was the last time something was added to the game for higher-level toons to do? With the difficulty level of "the New Hami", there was actually something taken away in I9 on my server. And I personally was PO'd about The Hollows, and Striga, and Croatoa, because I, and many others like me, were waiting for more L50 COH content FOR YEARS. There's LOTS for toons L35 and under to do, whole (newer) zones dedicated to them. Maybe you weren't here for all of that, but assuredly lowbies have gotten some love from the Devs, much more than I feel high levels have.
There's lots more for a lowbie to do now than there was when I started playing, so if you don't like it now, you would have absolutely hated it then. Try going to PP and farming Hydra for 4-5 levels on every toon you have. If you hate radio mishes, go through your contacts. The first time around story arcs rock! I feel that radio mishes are more for players who have done ALL of the story arcs and don't want to be forced to do those all over again, because IMO it does get tedious after the 2nd/3rd time. A new toy for higher-level toons has been a long time in coming. RCS was an under-utilized ghost town. And actually, if I'm correct RCS was L45+, in I10 it's being changed to L35+, and open to villains too, so it's going to be accessible to even MORE players than before; with a real reason to even go there added for those of us with high-level toons.
[ QUOTE ]
I am seriously starting to dislike this game. And yes, there is an option other than "Shut up or leave." I don't have to be a sheep and just love everything the devs say.
And, btw, I have toons from level 1 all the way to 30. I stopped playing with my 30 because of how boring it is.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, you have toons L1-30 and you can't get one to level 35+ in time for I10. If you can't seem to break that imaginary barrier, ever thought that maybe it's not the game, maybe it's your toons? I LOVE to play my Main; I don't love her cause she was my 1st 50, she was my 1st 50 cause I absolutely LOVED playing her; still do. Do you have a toon like that? Have you tried all the AT's, and different types of each one? Maybe there is a toon that, instead of dreading logging in on it, there's one you'd enjoy so much you couldn't stop playing it. In my experience (almost) everyone finds at least one (or more) toons like that. BUT, if you feel you HAVE tried and sampled all that COH has to offer (which I doubt, because there actually IS a lot), and you're still disgruntled:
...maybe, just maybe, I'll go ahead and say it: This isn't the game for you. I've never, ever, said that before, in 3 years on these forums, I've never said "Well quit then." There have been LOTS of things that have happened in COH over the past 3 years that made me think about leaving this game (GD, ED, controller holds/pet stacking/HO/Burn/every issue Regen nerf, etc), more than I can count or list. I was usually the one on the OTHER side of this argument, railing against "The Dev Lovers" who I thought lapped up any and everything that was offered up to us by the Devs. But I stayed, because, changes or not, I still enjoy playing this game, warts and all. Even if my interest level is a few factors less than what it was at some point in the past, I (obviously) like playing COH, point blank, period. BUT, if you DON'T, and you're making that quite obvious here, there's really no reason for you to keep paying for an experience that you don't enjoy. If you're so bored and there's nothing of redeemable value for you here, if you're "starting to dislike" COH, to be blunt, maybe you should try something else. -
Hmm. I10 sounds pretty cool. Making good use of the RCS is a GREAT idea, I've been dying to get into that mothership for a good long while. I have always kind of hated the Rikti, for no good reason, but I'll enjoy pounding their misshapen skulls in nonetheless.
Not sure what zones will be involved, but the chance to battle what I hope will be massive waves of enemies anywhere will be interesting. I won't, however, be defending Atlas Park. I don't know what it's like on other servers, but Atlas on Triumph is a fetid cesspool of "PL meh!", "inf plz!" random SG invite noobness (not newbs, noobs, there's a difference). The Rikti can have it. I hope they invade during a costume contest and wantonly slaughter only the lowbie FOTM builds. Every time a Rad/Psy dies, an angel gets its' wings...
Lol, Khelds. So, Villains want Khelds, or something like them...WHY?!? A Villain jumping up on a chair and screaming "Quant! Quant! Kill it, KILL IT! It's gonna get me!" won't be any more villainous than it is heroic. & here I thought Villains would be sadists, not masochists. Go figure...
Lol, Villains.

That has also changed. The Scarab is now said to have been created by Nabu (Dr. Fate) during his time in ancient Egypt. This is apparently to tie in with the rewriting of the origin because neither the "pure energy alien parasite thing" doesn't fit into a mystic Scarab origin story any better than the "Vitamin 2-X pill thing" did.
[/ QUOTE ]
[censored]? Was this in JSA? I gotta stop spead-reading.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was revealed in Time Masters #6. In the chronology, 1000 years after the Lord of Order Nabu The Wise descends to Earth, he & a traveler from the 20th Century create the Scarab in an attempt to use it to break the power of the Pharoah Khafre.
The stories & dates, as usual, do NOT fit however, as Khafre is supposed to be the son of Khufu, who is in actuality the immortal Vandal Savage. Either the dates are 70 years off, or Vandal continued as ruler by impersonating his own son, which wouldn't be too implausible for an immortal...
BUT, this brings the events of Blue Beetle 17-18 into question. There could not have been an "evil alien" inside the Scarab if the Nabu story is true, so who knows? It has been insinuated that Nabu made the whole "sentient Scarab" thing up as misdirection; it has also been noted by fans that the writers are apparently using this characterization of Nabu as a deceiver/prankster to explain (or rather fail to explain) errors & continuity glitches in the collective mythos of anything concerning Dr Fate.
It's all reaaaally confusing. It's what I hate about DC, they just can't leave the past alone. Marvel doesn't tinker with the past, they just straight tell you it was all a lie in the first place & expect you to believe it... -
[ QUOTE ]
You should, too. Being broadly condescending in one post and dancing around flat-out calling me an [censored] in your next. Five star posting, champ. Or rather, GJ!

So you found a simple comment concerning how long I've been reading comics condescending? YOU, of all people Jack?!? Hmm, boggles the mind; but this:

Comprehend and reserve a modicum of the comic book knowledge I have.
[/ QUOTE ]
...isn't?!? Amazing Jack, you're in rare form. I'll e-mail Webster's now & request that they put your username & avatar next to the word hypocrite. 2 unenviable accomplishments in one day, wow, you rock. Bravisimo, te felicito. -
Agreed. I'm sure lots of COH players are completely stoked about PvP but I was not one of them. My characters were built for PvE, The Arena is a secondary afterthought to me.
I have a lot of toons of each AT on more than one server. There are so many changes affecting all of them in some way, whether big or small, I'm not sure how to adjust/fix them all. Tactics changes will be the easiest to do, but the hardest to get used to. If I run in at SS & Flash/GDF/Nova/etc now I'm deadmeat.
So WH, IH, SS, SJ, MoG, etc, etc are all different from how I planned them to be/thought they would be, so I have to Respec to at least change some slotting around if not actual powers themselves. You can flame me or call me lazy or whatever, but I don't really want to HAVE to do 9 Respec Trials... -

Kudos & cookies for anyone who can tell me how many Blue Beetles there were & who originally created the Scarab.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then there was Dan Garret, the original Blue Beetle from Charlton Comics, who used the power of the scarab to fight crime (although this origin was re-written, since he originally gained his super powers through a vitamin called "2X"). After his death, he passed the title of Blue Beetle onto his student, Ted Kord, who fought crime with technology, martial arts, and crude detective skills since Dan's scarab had been destroyed after both Ted and Dan deemed its power evil. How it returned, and why, is a complete mystery to me. And why Ted started with how he "couldn't get the thing to work" is probably a huge oversight on the DC editorial staff.
[/ QUOTE ]
The 1st actual Blue Beetle, Dan Garret, was not a Charlton character, he was a Fox Features Syndicate character with a newspaper strip & a radio show. He had a sidekick named Sparky, readily shot criminals without hesitation or remorse, & gained superpowers at random during one stretch. The copyright was purchased by Charlton, then later DC.
[ QUOTE ]
Now, as for the scarab itself: it was, originally, an alien being composed of pure energy that the wizard of Shazam had trapped inside a beetle. Hence why it's influence was considered evil by both Dan and Ted.
[/ QUOTE ]
That has also changed. The Scarab is now said to have been created by Nabu (Dr. Fate) during his time in ancient Egypt. This is apparently to tie in with the rewriting of the origin because neither the "pure energy alien parasite thing" doesn't fit into a mystic Scarab origin story any better than the "Vitamin 2-X pill thing" did.

Double bonus: name a few of the most popular other Charlton Heroes, the shortest-lived one by the most famous artist AND the most obscure one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, aside from Blue Beetle, DC also acquired the characters Captain Atom, The Question, and Thunderbolt. The Question is probably the one you're thinking was created by the most famous artist since Steve Ditko helped create him. And, in my eyes, he's also the most obscure (detective-style hero with no face?)
[/ QUOTE ]
Was asking for the most popular heroes when they were still with Charlton, NOT just the ones DC acquired. The most read heroes were:
The Question
Peacemaker
Judomaster
Captain Atom
Nightshade
The Ghost
Blue Beetle
E-Man
The most obscure & shortest-lived Charlton hero created by Ditka was a promising one called Killjoy, an apparently indestructible mute who only appeared twice, in the back of 2 issues of E-Man. He was reminiscent of The Creeper & Shade, The Changing Man & for some strange reason was interesting as hell. Good stuff IMO, readers loved it, editors hated it, buh bye Killjoy.

Don't need another GDF, I get EMP, a tool that WORKS, in 3 bubbles. So SN, you truly believe that the I4 WH is worthy of being the last power we get before Singularity? That boggles the mind. So the kb drops WH a tier below Stalagmites & FF, which Earth & Fire get at what level? & tell me why I shouldn't compare at what level who gets what again. I look at it as "I waited until L26 to get THIS?!?"
Unless I'm placing the mobs in the next block so we can run, I still don't understand how this "AoE Placement Tool" is a such a great thing. You're all excited because it's AoE & think most of us are "just failing to see the potential". Know what I see? I see you being so desperate, as much so as the rest of us, for another tool, any tool, that you'd be happy if they gave us Fold Space back.
I hope you're right, I hope I'm wrong & that this thing turns out to be wonderful, the best thing EVA since cheese in a spraycan. But I really think you're grasping at straws & you'll find out that we just traded if not the family cow, then one of his healthy calves for a bag of magic beans.
As to testing WH with the default slot, there IS a method to my madness. I'm L37 right now with 1 Respec banked. I will NOT have any slots available to play with until, at the earliest, L40, because I get EMP at 38 & have all the 39 slots planeed for that. SO, I won't even have a CHANCE to put slots in WH until then. Therefore, unless I'm just going to respec then rob slots from somewhere else, it HAS to work "as is" for right now, or I have to take it off of my powertray until I can slot it. I burned the Respec on Test playing around with a PvP build, so don't have that one either.
If anyone is going on the TS tomorrow & wants to play around with WH in some situations, please send me a PM here, I'll come along. If you can show me/sell me on this, I'd be happy to look at it. Besides, a whole team of nothing but Gravs would be pretty sweet. -
[ QUOTE ]
Did some testing with the new wormhole last night.
Against even level minions and lts (lvl 41 Rikti and Nemesis), I was getting 12 seconds of disorient.
[/ QUOTE ]
But see, that's my whole problem with it. I don't usually fight even-cons. Set on "Invincible" with a couple of teammates it's spawning 39/40's, sometimes 41's which I think sucks, but that's how it is. Even when I hunt it's usually +2's. So 12 seconds of disorient on a white minion will do what to a +2/3 Lt?!? Exactly diddly-doo.
So that ugly scattering effect IS a big deal. If they're only going to be disoriented for a few, & I DO mean a FEW (in my testing Saturday, a +1 Lt was disoriented for no more than 5 seconds, I wasn't feeling brave enough to test it on +2's after that result :P), having them wandering all over the frigging place sucks & WILL pose a problem. If you don't GDF them the moment they come out, they're lost.
I used it on one of those LARGE groups of Crey in Bricks & it looked like you'd opened the barn door & let the cows loose when they popped out of it. Sure you can send them away, but I don't like "emergency" powers. To me, that means I've failed my job & we're running cause I'm an idiot.
I was showing the new WH to a L50 Grav/Kin I know who loved the old WH & didn't know they were changing it. His response to the results ranged from "OMG!" to "Oh hell no!" to "Holy aggro Batman!"
[ QUOTE ]
Make the disorient take effect as soon as the power hits, instead of waiting until after the mob is ported. I don't mind the guys I miss shooting me, but the ones I hit getting a shot off is bothersome.
[/ QUOTE ]
Amen. THIS flaw is REALLY huge. On a small-to-medium-sized group it's kinda an annoyance; but I wormholed said large group (@10) that had a lot of Lt's in it, & I got shot at by half of the mobs AT THE SAME TIME. Can you say ALPHA boy & girls? Tried again on a smaller group of Council with a Boss & 2 Lt's & took 2 HARD hits. If I hadn't been hovering with Stealth on I'm pretty sure I'd have been sucking gutter. If that Boss had been a PP I would have been trotting out of the hospital.
I don't think using one of my powers should be a crapshoot. I understand when a power MISSES, but if it hits, why am I STILL getting blasted? That's just dumb. I don't want to roll the dice everytime I use it as to whether I (or all of us if it's an AoE) am gonna dirtnap or not.
NOW, for all those who say those of us who don't like the new WH are just whining, want to "keep Grav gimped", blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda, listen: I AM really TRYING to like this power. I already have it & don't really want to burn a Respec to get rid of it if I can't make it work. I AM testing it, I'm listening to everyone's suggestions on tactics, strategy, etc. BUT IMO, it still stinks. I just think some people here have their hands over their noses & refuse to smell it.
I hope the rabid fans & supporters of the new WH are still fans after it goes live. I'd like to see the response from your team the first time you use it. After the mobs disappear, port, reappear, wander all over creation for a count of three, then start shooting/beating/clawing them all to death, I don't think you're get a "Woot! Woohoo, GJ dude!" from you teammates. 1 million influence says it'll be along the lines of "WT*?!?" -

That's funny, I just tested it again yesterday & on even-cons/+1's the disorient time was under 6 seconds. That's not what I consider to be "respectable", that's what I consider to be "AoE aggro-Hell".
Also, throwing them into a corner did NOT make them clump any better, that tactic doesn't seem to be feasible either. The KB isn't the problem, IMO, it's the "drunken stagger" after the mobs get up. They really REALLY seem to stagger too much & cover a considerable distance much too quickly. What I ended up with was enemies ALL OVER THE PLACE, I couldn't even attempt to GDF them all they were spaced so far apart.
I was willing to TRY to make the new WH work, but "as is" it's useless for my needs, I'll have to respec it out at the 1st opportunity. -

Get real people, this is City Of Heroes after all for gosh sakes!!!
Don't throw rice, throw Caltrops! Sheesh, do I have to think of EVERYTHING around here?!? -
Not trying to derail this thread Thoth93, but I think that what PMM was trying to say is that yes, there is a control gap, which is why I and others picked Rad as a Secondary to have more situational tools in my box, of which EMP is just one. I'm not all that familiar with some of Kin's abilities aside from the mainstays, but even though x/Rads don't get the glory that is FS, we get a lot of other little things that add up.
There are ways to handle those 2 seperate groups of up to 10 +2's with a Boss & some Lt's, and most of that has to do with my Secondary, not my Primary. It's nice to be able to dip into your magic bag of Secondary tricks & grab a heal, a buff, 2 debuffs, a slow, a monster hold, I know that there's something in there that I can pull out to get me out of this mess. Should it be that way, should I have to depend on my 2ndary to try and bridge the gap? No, it shouldn't. IMHO I feel that other Primaries can use their 2ndaries to compliment them, not prop them up.
I know that a lot of people want to stress the individuality of the Gravity set, you have your view of things and I respect that. But I look at things purely on a functional level, not based on character concepts. Bottom line, I'd like to have as many tools & options in my Primary as Fire, Ice, Mind and Earth do. Right now it's not even close. A few clicks and they can change to the :newspaper: emote because nothing will be posing any danger until they're dispatched. In pure Primary controlling ability, I feel inferior next to them and it makes me angry.
I'm not saying that we're gimped, compared to my Illusion I feel like Magneto, but I for one would rather have powers with more utility than some that are cool eye candy and very unique but at best extremely situational, and at worst all but useless in PvE on an every fight basis. -

Dimension Shift was changed back in Issue 2 (I think), the baddies are rooted now.

Whoope, my bad. My computer was down for almost 6 months so I just returned recently amd missed the changes to DS. My mistake. Point taken PMM.
I do understand the tactic involving CF+whatever to MacGyver a ghetto AoE Hold out of it, but that is really a pain in the [censored] especially considering the long animation time on RI and the cost of running a toggle needlessly while you possibly have other things to attend to. If they would extend the disorient time to something akin to what Fire has, I'd would endeavor to incorporate it into my playstyle.
Those of us against the new WH aren't just being obstinate in railing against it just "because". My whole problem is that I don't see it as being a useful part of my toolbox. Testing by those that have used it on the TS had proven that. Someone please explain to me why I would want a power that will most likely take 2 other powers combined with it to make it viable.
Texasholdem don't be a Troll. Although this discussion has been a bit heated, I do feel that it has been rather cordial considering the relative passion each sector has for the power they wish to save. I'm asking PLEASE do NOT cause this to degenerate into a flamefest and derail the true valid purpose of this thread. That's a sure way to have the Devs lock it and ignore everything said here.
Morighan IS stating her opinion, just as I and everyone else here is stating theirs. That is her right to assert what she believes in. I feel that every post that she, and even those on the other side of the fence make is contributing something to possibly coming to a compromise that won't piss of the other group. Give me something I can use in PvE, even something very situational, and I'll make an effort to work it into my OOO. Give me a broken tool and I'll discard it and complain, as I rightfully should. If they left WH & DS the same I wouldn't say a word, we'd each have a power that we choose not to take or use, change either one and the choice has been taken away from us. Tell me how that is fair to anyone. -
Add me to the pro-Wormhole group. And by the by, what difference does it make who liked what and who didn't 3 months ago? That makes no difference whatsoever to the people who have and use WH and liked it as it was. If the devs are and were simply responding to our requests about this Primary as a whole then they should see that many of us are unhappy with their new changes to the power and rectify it now. I also didn't discover a frequent use for it until I got my Singies. I can pick which enemy I want to dispatch 1st by bringing them into range or throwing them into my Singy (Sappers anyone?), and which ones I don't want to deal with right now, or at all. I use WH constantly, can those defending DS say the same thing?
Maybe if you team regularly with a group of friends, DS won't cause the team to want to burn you at the stake, but in random groups it's a no-no EXCEPT as an emergency power. Would be better if the mobs were somehow rooted as a group while shifted, but in its' current form they chase all over the place then attack and kill everyone they can once they unshift. I cannot see how that would be a frequently used "control" option. If they'd stay clumped I could GDF them when they unphased, but not during their PS squishy chase.
I have seen DS used, but even in the aforementioned emergency situation, I haven't seen a time when it did NOT go badly, with the other teams members lobbying for a kick minutes later. The Grav screaming "Don't attack them, don't attack them!" while the unknowledgeable waste time and end on phased mobs who then camp next to you
and everyone else on the team waiting to unshift so that they can pound us all into paste won't elicit a "Woot, GJ!" from anyone I know. Yes, that's just in my limited experience, YMMV, and I accept that. I don't believe that I nor others are, as has been coined, "DS Haters", we just don't like having our powers completely changed into something that I didn't want & can't see a use for in the new I4 incarnation. Our point is: why do those who like it get to keep one of their favorite toys while the devs break one of mine?
PvP, PvP, I'm sick of hearing that argument. Not all of us care about that facet of the game, so making PvE changes to suit the PvP Lovers doesn't wash with me. No one knows what percentage of us will be entering The Arena. If you are, well bully for you, but that doesn't do anything for those of us who don't plan on doing it much, if at all, and especially not with my Grav.
The new WH+CF=? I really don't understand how a group of scattered rooted mobs shooting you to bits from range is considered a control option. Unless I drop RI on top of the group, CF rarely gets used by me at all, especially now that I'm noticing that mobs' ranged damage ramps up considerably at higher levels. Used in teams w/o the debuff from RI (or the slow from LR) on the group gets a "?!?" from the team as to how this helped them any. I'm not close-minded though, if you have a viable "every fight" use for CF w/o using another powers with it PMM, do please enlighten me, I'd be happy to hear about it, here or in a PM.
Aside from the EXTREMELY situational ideas like the TM thing I cannot see how an angry scattered group of enemies firing at me and my team after 4 seconds is a good thing. I'm admittedly a very anal Controller, I don't like things on-screen besides NPC's and teammates doing what the hell they want; I want them locked down, spayed & neutered, NOW.
I WILL attempt to find a use for the new WH, as long as it doesn't require me to take yet another power to make it viable; most likely as I said earlier by tossing something else on top of the affected group like LR or maybe even going back to the CF then RI gambit, but I'm pretty much afraid that I will end up having to burn a Respec to get something more utilitarian.
I won't weigh in on Propel because I Respec'd it out and have no plans to take it again even if they tripled the previous damage due to the horrible animation time. As was stated before, usually when I DID have and use it, the target was long dispatched by someone else before the animation was halfway done. Reducing the time on the cast would ruin the one facet of the power that I liked which WAS the "Ohhh!" factor. But that's not enough, for me anyway, to burn a power choice on it just for that.
