Thanks; I was tweaking a different build and hadn't actually "fixed" when I was taking certain powers. I really, REALLY, apprecaite the tweaks. Looks great. Expensive, but great. Now, to get back to farming tickets and influence for this build...

Thanks for the feedback; and yes, I'm trying to get to 30 to 35% defense to everything with big HP and big regen. I figure that'll keep me flying as a SS/WP guy.

Hey all,
Here's my first real attempt at IO'ing out my SS/WP brute. I love this toon, and I'd like to make him the absolute best I can. I'd love to make sure he can dish a ton of damage but take a ton of damage, too. I want decent HP, great regen, great recovery, and great recharge all of which I hope this build has, but I don't want to gimp my defense, either. I hope things look o.k.
My main concern is how I've slotted Char--I don't use this power at all, so I'm really only using it as a set mule. Can you see better ways to slot this power?

I appreciate the feedback.
This is a respec at 50; I already have this guy at 50 and I'm playing around. As to taunt, I took it much earlier when I was leveling than I have it in this build.
I've already run and completed all the task forces and earned all the accolades on this toon. I don't go back on toons like this to work on low-level content. I use alts for that. As such, when certain powers are taken--taunt at 30, SoW at 49--is in part due to things not really mattering as I'll only be playing this guy at 50.
I'm going to look into droping my slots in taunt; I don't need all the bonuses I'm getting there and might be able to use them better elsewhere. Any thoughts?

Hey all,
I promise, I've spent hours and I've read the past 20 or so pages on WP, SS, and IO stuff. That said, I'm back to the game after another lengthy (8 months?) layoff, and I'd greatly appreciate those of you with far better knowledge of IOs helping me out.
My goals for this build are as follows:
1. I want to be the best all-around tank I can be. I want great regen, defense, resistance as able, etc. WP helps me do that; IOs enhance what WP naturally does.
2. I'd still like to do decent damage. I know I'm a tank, but with SS I have great AoE damage with Foot Stomp, especially if my recharge is solid, and my single target attack chain is solid, too.
3. Did I mention I'm going for all-around effectiveness?
I'm not sold on energy mastery, but given the bang for the buck issues--I just don't have any slots to spare--it seemed like the best choice. Physical Perfection and Conserve Power aren't awful, either way.
Anyway, any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this build and make suggestions.

Heyas all,
I've really had fun with my WP/SS tank. Despite the weak taunt aura, with FS going strong and careful play I think I do well with aggro. I have the resources to put together the build below, but I'm hoping the forum think tank might be able to help me tweak a few things. My goals are as below:
1. Strong Survival--I've stacked a lot of HP/Regen. My favorite toon of all time was my release regen scrapper. He just didn't die. I'd like to mimic that effect as best I can. Plus, regen is the one defense that helps with everything. By stacking HP/Regen, I'm hoping that I can live through granite-level items.
2. Strong Survival, Part II--Not getting hit is still awesome. I haven't soft capped all defense, but I'm at 30% to psi, close to 45% with smashing/lethal, and all other defenses are solid.
3. Solid Play--The remainder of my build is designed to keep me without an obvious weak point. Solid offense, solid recharge, solid damage, solid overall play. Recovery shouldn't be a weak point, my attack chain will be mostly FS for AoE with Kick, Jab, Haymaker, and KOB being the ST chain.
Where have I blown it and exceed the 5 bonus rule? Where can I tweak things?
I really appreciate feeback; the CoH tanker community has always been a fantastic resource, and I really appreciate the time you all take to help in efforts like this.

I liked the points you made. As I mentioned, Energy Torrent was a filler. Focused Accuracy was, too. I never planned on using it as a toggle. I've tweaked a few things to see a few changes.
This build gives me perma hasten, perma double rage (with 2x the crash), and as many HP additions as I could easily see. I've also got quite a bit of extra recovery to help with the end issues.

Heyas all. Yes, I know, another please help my build thread. I've spent a ton of time trying to maximize what I'm getting from this build. Money isn't an issue, and I'll be able to get/buy what seems best.
Thanks a ton for the time; I know these threads are common, but I can't tell you just how much help you've all been to me.
The following were my goals:
1. Great all around tank, understanding that Fire/SS is more offensive and less defensive than other sets. I'd like to be able to farm, run TFs, play with friends, etc.
2. Build on my strengths, back up my weaknesses; I've tried to build into this great regen, recovery, S/L defense, recharge, heal, etc.
3. Get a lot of HP.
The following are questions I have:
1. As far as I can tell, Mid's doesn't give you recharge reduction from Hasten, defense data from CJ or Weave, etc.. So the totals I see in Mids DO NOT include what will happen when Hasten is added into the mix, when CJ and Weave are turned on, etc. Is that right?
2. I hate energy torrent as a power; it's there as a set mule more than anything. Any other thoughts?
3. Where have I made glaring mistakes? Where can I add in something else? What would you take out, and why would you replace x with y?

I was under the impression--probablly wrong--that even with IOs only a Granite Brute can cap S/L damage and Defense. I'm not even sure if a Fire/SS Tank can reach the S/L and defense softcaps.

So what about my long-forgotten WP/SS Tank? I know WP doesn't offer much on the farming front aside from extra regen, but that's still a bonus. I know it won't kill as fast as Fire/SS, but is it an option? Am I wasting too much time killing with WP/SS that I wouldn't have to waste with Fire/SS?

As a disclaimer, I love the game. I love to play for kicks. Farming, though, funds the expensive builds I try to put into play for my characters. And I enjoy helping friends get through the not-so-fun pre stamina levels on new toons.
I have a Fire/Kin troller I farm with. I hate the style. He's effective, but it's not my style. I enjoy playing him for support in teams, etc. I just don't like farming with him.
I'd rather jump into the middle of a million mobs, beat 'em up, and move on to more. I rolled a SS/WP Brute, who's now 28, to do just that. However, after seeing a Fire/SS Tank in action, I was jealous.
Although WP for a Brute secondary is likley o.k. for select farms, it doesn't do much to help with killing speed outside of the endurance help.
I'm thinking of rolling either a SS/Fire Brute or a Fire/SS Tank. Obviously, the Brute would do a bit more damage and the Tank would be a bit more durable. My two questions are really as follows:
1. Is the SS/WP Brute (I actually have a 32 WP/SS tank that's sat neglected for a while, so that's an option too) a potentially o.k. enough farmer that another reroll is stupid?
2. What would you recommend for survivability and speed of killing--a SS/Fire Brute or a Fire/SS Tank. I'm o.k. with killing a little slower if it means less risk in the middle of a ton of +2/8 mobs or greater, but not if it means killing A LOT slower.

Also, I'm curious as to why you'd say to use Kin Combats over Makos and Reactive Armor over Aegis. I'm obviously missing something. Call it a new to IOs failing.
Fireball is obviously something to consider...hum...I could easily drop Punch and Hasten in a later build and change a few things...

But nothing. Honestly, I just worded things poorly. I'm with you--I'd love a change. I don't know if I made that clear in my original post. Herculea gave some great ways to work around it, but I'd rather the fun factor not require a work around.

I'd love to see the aura buffed. I've found some of the tips Herculea put forth in her guide regarding Aggro and WP to be a huge bonus, though. Mostly, taunt is invaluable. It refreshes quickly, and by using it liberally, things have been great.
I've also dropped some taunt enhancers in RttC--another huge difference. I think the weaker aura is the balance for having no other holes. Invul is weak to Psy, Stone has it's obvious penalties. WP is good at everything, with nice regen. It's hole is it's aura. Ways exist, just like for most things, to work around that.
Again, I'd love a buff and would never be upset with a buff, but...

First--thanks a ton to those of you that have given me some feedback on the secondary for this Willpower tank. It's much appreciated.
Second--here's the build I'm looking at. I stopped playing about 1 month after IOs came out; here I am again. The IOs below are what I think will work o.k. My main goals with this character is to build a tank capable of taking a lot of damage but without the issues that stone faces. I've got a Stone/Fire tanker to play with if I want to swap back to Stone for Granite and all it brings.
Specifically, if you have any IO feed back, I'd love to hear it. I know the sets I've picked will be spendy; I figure I've got a lot of time to earn that influence. I'm mostly looking for glaring mistakes--places I've included a stupid enhancement or left out an obvious one. I'd love to find a way to cap Smashing/Lethal damage resistance, but I don't see that happening with Willpower. The regen of the set will be my friend, obviously.
Also, I'm strongly considering dropping Hasten (not really needed, anyway) and picking up Salt Crystals for aggro. It's a very likely change.
