Quote:That's warehousing, not T&D. Warehousing is a value-added prospect to the buyer only if it is a necessary service. Is warehousing necessary in CoH? That's an argument with no way to win.flippers add value by ensuring what you want is there when you want it- temporal value, if you will. If you *want* to tie up a slot and wait a while to get a 'deal', that option is there. If your slots and time are worth more to you than a negligible inf savings, the flipper is there to ensure you can get your widget NAO at market rates.
In a game environment where time is the only 'currency' with real value, that's an important service. -
Quote:It can't, since the flippers use the same channels of distribution as the primary buyers and sellers.I suspect, though, that conservation of market slots turns out to serve a similar
function.
Quote:However, it seems to me that the problem here is not that flippers are somehow making the market inefficient, it's that the market starts out insanely inefficient and flippers make a lot of money narrowing the range a bit. -
Quote:Grocery stores (and other retailers) add value via transportation and distribution. That's an aspect of the real-world economy that is not present in CoH. BTW, the profit margin for retail grocery is very slim.Consider, if you will, the grocery store. If everyone ran grocery stores, and no one farmed (literally), we would of course have no food. Does this tell us that grocery stores are "manipulating", because they do nothing but buy goods and resell them? I don't think it does. It seems to me that grocery stores add a kind of value, even though they don't necessarily do ANYTHING to modify the goods they sell. (I know some repackage things, or have a deli, but we can ignore that and focus on what they do to forklift-loads of Kraft Mac&Cheese.)
As for showing the bid/sell prices, I am in favor of it. I don't think the comparison with WoW is quite accurate though. I think such a system would much more closely resemble the one in EVE Online, and that market system works extremely well IMO. -
My fire/fire scrapper has no real deficiencies, so I intend to go with musculature. More damage, please!
-
I'll go with whichever boost gives the largest increase to my widow's damage. That's probably going to be musculature, although I'll try spiritual to see if I can improve my attack chain.

Quote:I've been thinking that they should move EoE's to vendor-only, and make similar insps for some of the upcoming TF's or trials. It's less optional than just selling large insps, it's a recurring cost, and it affects only high-level players who want to run the top content.the way to burn off inf is easy make something desirable for sale from vendors at a high price. SOs were a great way to burn off inf until they were no longer desirable .
The trick is what is that something?
The enhancement systems is already fairly complex and saturated. Costuming was a good thing until they starting giving away tokens like candy (I have toons with over 50 tokens)
maybe make tier 3 inspirations for sale at .5-1 mil each? that would sink what 20 million before MoTF easy ... and completely optional -
I haven't purchased any of the booster packs, but I'd be the most interested in the Martial Arts pack. I'll check on the 29th to see if they happen to put it on sale too. If they do, I'll probably buy it.

Being able to trade inf for merits would mean that, with an extra step involved, a player would be able to buy recipes and salvage from a vendor with inf. I would not want to see this happen for a couple of reasons. First, it would lead to fixed pricing on at least some of the recipes. Second, it would devalue merits as a reward for playing through TF's/trials/story arcs as opposed to farming. I would like to see CoH use more money sinks, but there must be a better way.

I've done crafting and selling. I've done it in other MMO's too, and I use those other MMO's to help provide a basis on what is a reasonable markup. Based on my own experience and knowledge of what others on this board have been charging, I judge that the markups we charge are way out of proportion with the value added to the process. There's also flipping, which you didn't mention in your reply but I've also done, in which no value is added. I attribute the degree of profitability of both endeavors to the inefficiencies of CoH's market system. Like I said, I have no problem with that; I didn't design the system, I just profit from it.
-
Yes. We divert large sums of inf away from the primary participants in the market to line our piggy banks. Marketeering is a parasitic activity that is a detriment to everyone except the marketeers. I, for one, am perfectly okay with this.
-
Completely different set of circumstances. Gearscore in CoH, if it existed, would be little more than a novelty. I'd love to have a damage meter, mostly for curiosity, but most fights don't last long enough to warrant one.

Looks like it's going to be a moot point for now anyway, since the level shifts won't come until I20. Thanks for the replies nonetheless, my HO bids have been reinstated.
-
I know that the enhancement bonuses from HO's are tied to the level of the enhancement like SO's, and not level-independent like IO's. My question is: if a character slots an incarnate enhancement with a level shift, would the enhancement bonuses decrease from any HO's the character is using? (I ask, while canceling my bids for HO's)

Players can quickly figure out which rewards give the most bang for their buck. I don't expect people to use a-merits to purchase purples until the value of doing so matches or exceeds the value in using a-merits to purchase other rewards. The devs should have realized this immediately. I don't know if they think that purples are grossly undervalued, or if they just don't understand basic economics.
How many of those purples did you purchase using a-merits? -
It isn't nearly as funny if you use emoticons. Then again, I have a very dry sense of humor.
-
Hm, I'll try again then. I don't really care if they don't show the right price, as long as they still sell.
Maybe I shouldn't have deleted all those ceramic armor plates... -
-
Well, apparently I can't sell stacks of salvage anymore. Every time I try, the market takes my 5%, shows the listing price as 0 each, and they never sell. Normally I just throw whatever I find on WW at low prices, but it's so tedious listing them one at a time that I've taken to deleting the common stuff. I don't know if other folks have that problem too, but that could impact supply.
-
I normally don't like to talk about trading strategies, even indirectly. However, I will pose this: try the experiment again, using Spirit Thorns still. This time, set the purchasing price to 10,000 and the listing price to 1,000. How would you expect the results to change, and why?

Much as I would like to avoid this thread entirely, I do feel compelled to chime in and say that I checked out the link, do not appear to have picked up any malware, confirmed by scans from two different packages. Just to allay fears from any others who might have clicked on it.

I'd like to see a grappling set. Throws, body slams, suplexes, etc. It might require more interaction with the opponent than the game engine can handle though.
