About my 4th year into gaming I got sick of the hand cramping over a keyboard and got a Ideazon Fang. Probably the best gaming investment I ever made. Also a standard gamepad with native computer support can be used. The game software has innate emulation for those types of controllers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How exactly does this help with keyboard-related hand cramping? I am having that problem recently and am looking for something to help. It looks like your hand would be in a different position, but it still involves key clicking. I don't understand how it helps.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because your hand is resting on one position and all your buttons are in an ergonomic format instead of poising your hand in an unnatural way to reach keys that are spread horizontally across the keyboard.

I haven't had a wrist or a hand cramp since I got it.
  2. I knew about the combat attributes, but it never occurred to me to right click anything for options. That status monitor I have never seen in any mmo. That is just beyond awesome.

What are better ways to play? Should I force myself to use the number buttons? I've heard of using the numpad, but I don't want to take my hand off the mouse.

You don't need numpad key support for masterminds. I've done fine without it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True. I do just fine without all the keybinds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I use 4 or 5 macros for bot control but aside from that everything else are just hotbar skills.

The only thing I use keybinds for are modifying existing commands. For example I modify the escape key to both menu and cancel. I modify the costume changes to include emotes. I've never understood the point of modifying keys at the source when you can just make macros and hit one button. Its more convenient to be able to drag and change hotkeys than it is to remap an entire keybind if you decide to move it down the cast chain.

    Macros

The astrisks are just text as part of an emote.

    0-9 correspond to slots 1-0
For the diff trays I believe it goes in numerical sequence.

You can also drag the macro once its on the hotbar, so honestly the slot# really is irrelevant.

also when you make a macro, don't include a / as part of the command. It is implied in the macro.
  7. Inokis

    Macros

    /macro MacroName "commandstring"
    or
    /macroslot Slot# Name "commandstring"

the first one writes the macro to the first open slot. the second writes the macro to the assigned slot, but it will remove whatever is in the slot.

    an example:
    /macro COS1 "costume_change 0$$em powerup$$em *Power Sequence Initiated: Battle Armor Engaged*"

Despite the fact that he couldn't bring Marvel Universe Online to market.

[/ QUOTE ] From what I understand that was hardly his fault. Didn't that deal get canceled because Microsoft(I think) wouldn't accept subscriber numbers less than WoW?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't recall the specifics, but I remember reading that Microsoft pulled out because they decided Marvel wasn't a viable marketing tool for the game. Whether it was based on projected subs or development I don't know. I just recall that being a reason I read somewhere.

Pretty much all villain ATs are a hero AT mixed with a Blaster, except Brutes.

Brute = Scrapper + Tank. Average the two out and you get something with more survival than a Scrapper, but less damage (until their +DMG hits really high values).

Stalker = Scrapper + Blaster. They do high sustained damage and great burst, and AS is like opening with a snipe. Since they're averaged, Stalkers are squishier than Scrappers. But more durable than Blasters, of course.

Corruptor = Defender + Blaster. Less support ability (on par with Controller) but more damage than a Defender. But less than a Blaster.

Dominator = Controller + Blaster. Controls in tact, but you trade support skills for melee + range powers. Damage is actually pretty low right now, but it's going to go up with the dom buff soon.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Masterminds are Villain AT's too!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, and one of my favs. But it's hard to describe them, unless you want to say "Masterminds can be anything, but in general, they're a 6-person team."

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd say more effective in same cases than a team. I've heard horror stories of team wipes and I can safely say that my defeats are highly limited. With the ability to bodyguard, I've been able to take on bosses that had I been on any other toon would be dead in one hit. In the case of Nosferatu, I was easily dead in 2-4 hits if I didn't watch my hp and use respites; but he is a diff story...

If an MM couples his minions with Presence PP... all I can say is OMG. Bots + FF + Presence == insane tankage.
  10. I cannot stand malicious bullying. There is kill stealing in this game and I've been a victim of it.

On a new toon, a Dominator, I can easily take on 4 mobs without much effort. Using the various roots/incapacitations at my disposal, along with direct damage spells, I can become a mean killing machine. However sometimes I miss on a cast. This opens up the opportunity for someone to come in and snag whatever it was I am killing for theirs. This happens more often than you think it does in open areas. It really irritates me when someone replies, 'I was only helping' while I'm at full health and the mob is 10 feet away lobbing potshots at me.

Just because I miss a few casts does not mean I need help and it definitely doesn't mean you need to follow me and 'help' me with every pull.

On the flip side, I have been guilty of helping people. I've seen people at nearly zero health with still 3-4 mobs. On my Main MM I can simply taunt them off and no harm is done. On my Lowbie MM, I can heal. There has only been once that someone was on the verge of death that I ran in to help and they thanked me for it and went along their way.

Theres a difference between actually helping someone and a person using help as an excuse to serve whatever motive they have.

This thread opens an important question in my mind: is Kermit the Frog a recovering dyne addict?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not unless you've seen him actually in the game or have proof that hes used inter-dimentional travel between our world and the COH Universe.

Proof of existence in the game means he exists on both planes as an alternate form, otherwise inter-dimensional travel is the only other option.

Unless you go for the argument 'its just a game', in which case it would take a petition to the devs for coding to get him in. In this argument he would have no exposure to the drug therefore he isn't.

However, one could argue that he originated in the COH universe and now exists in ours. Well, COH as a game didn't exist until 4 years ago so... thats unlikely since Kermit has been around for decades.

Now if you argue that the COH universe exists and the game data is just a conduit to that world and Kermit slipped out before our knowledge allowed us into it ... then I've got nothing.

The content is Rated T for Teen. It isn't E10+ by any stretch of the definition.
As soon as you as the first Hellion comes at you with a baseball bat or shoots a gun at you it is no longer E10+.
The content that changes in actual game play actually goes to M or AO in some situations.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I Haven't seen anything Red Side in 40 levels that isn't inappropriate for anyone over the age of 10. They can rate it teen if they want but the gameplay certainly isn't teen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not by your standards. But, there's plenty that is by the ESRB's standards. Violence tends to get a game a T rating, especially when that violence involves guns and flamethrowers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

However, that is negated by the fact no one ever dies. They are just defeated. Weren't all the superman movies PG but they involved fighting and guns to some extent in some situations? Yes I know that the Movie Ratings are independent of Game ratings but there is a parallel nonetheless

I Haven't seen anything Red Side in 40 levels that isn't inappropriate for anyone over the age of 10. They can rate it teen if they want but the gameplay certainly isn't teen. I would have no problems letting a kid around 10 play the game.

I saw parents with their preteen kids at the premier of 'Watchmen' that is way too adult for any kids to see. The game has no such issues that I've witnessed

    [ QUOTE ]
It says right on the box "Children under the age of 13 are not permitted to play" Guess what, that's not a parents choice. NCSoft will enforce it because the last thing they need is for some parents group to come after them saying that they are exposing children to inappropriate things. In our sue-happy world, companies are forced to take the choice away from parents because a few can't be bothered to read the back of a box and then will freak out when they see what they gave their child.

    [/ QUOTE ]

ESRB and EULA are two diff things. The company can tell people they can't play under a certain age and thats fine, but ESRB rating is not binding to gameplay. They are two different things entirely.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
It is a Teen game. Personally i think kids should not even touch that game. It is not for them. Simple as that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well it is up to the parent to decide, that is the reason for the rating system. The only thing I really see that could warrant this as 'teen' is the online experience with other players. The gameplay is certainly E10+.

Haven't heard of it before. Is that all it is? Voice controls? From the trial part, sounds like it has a subscription fee involved. Not worth it, IMO, no matter how low the sub fee is...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah it's $30 after the 7 day trial ends. I'm going to try it and see how I like it. I can see it being useful for stuff like inspirations, opening/closing windows, etc. Not strictly necessary, but it seems like a fun toy to play with.

The interview was on the NWN2 podcast and that game has layers upon layers of menus and tool bars so I can imagine that it would be a lot more useful in a game like that, but what the hey I'll give it a shot. It might be NECESSARY, most things in life aren't, but it might be fun!

Or on Ubuntu for that matter. Little WINE goes a long way

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only reason I don't migrate to Ubuntu is because I use a Zune and there is no third party protocol for the music transfer as of yet. The creative zen players support one but I really like the Zune and it only works on Windows at the present.
  17. I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but....

I've been playing online MMO's for 10 years and I've never had a virus or malware distributed on my network to any computer. I've never lost an account to keylogging or hacking either.

Playing MMOs and Online games in itself doesn't open one to attacks. Setting a computer outside of the firewall in the DMZ could allow for attempts at security breaches, which is why I open ports to specific programs if needed rather than doing the DMZ.

If they have a solid firewall and they know how to use it then there should be next to nil risk as long as no questionable websites are visited. A lot of virus and keyloggers are distributed through sites advertising RMT and such. Some sites advertising free mp3s etc try to distribute malware as well. As long as everyone using the computer uses safe internet practices then there shouldn't be any problems.

It won't be the game at any rate that introduces any malware.

One thing to take into account is that the majority of the CoH files, the pigg directory, are already compressed and you won't gain much space out of compressing it further.

For example, the biggest file in the directory, the texMisc.pigg, 202,293 kb, only shrank down to 197,812 kb when I ran RAR over it. Zip only brought it down to 199,792 kb.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thx for the info, its appreciated. I'm currently moving about 80 gb over to the USB drive so that should significantly free up some drive space.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Haven't tried it, but my gut feeling would be that it would suck. Do you play all the games currently on that HD, or do you just keep them to maintain saves/settings/etc in case you play it again sometime? Is there any way you can use an external HDD to store the ones you don't currently access, or even put just CoX on the external and then you can take it with you wherever you go?

.....And do you have any idea how hard it is for me to not joke about what else you must have on that HDD if it's full? >.<

    [/ QUOTE ]

I may do that Tekka, I do have an external USB drive for system backups. Copying the other games to it wouldn't hurt.
  20. Have any of you tried this? I run all my games from one drive and its getting a tad full. My first inclination is to compress the drive, however that adds access time because each file has to be uncompressed at run time to be read. So before I compress the drive I'm just curious if anyone has run COH or other games in a compressed state and had any issues or not.
  21. I actually play multiple games. I subscribe to one MMO at a time but have various other games to play also.

One of the games I always seem to fall back on every few months is Diablo II. I also currently have Sacred 2 that I play on occasion.

There is an item mall MMO I also play on occasion called Requiem: Bloodymare. If you don't mind the Korean style item upgrade system then its a decent game.

Some games I haven't tried yet that I have the boxes for are Star wars Empire at War and Sins of a Solar Empire, I also have yet to install and try Avencast.

I still have a copy of Impossible Creatures, not currently installed but its definitely one to play on a boredom streak. My fav RTS though has to be Battle Realms. Although there is no longer support for it, It will always be one of my fav games.

Another of my fav RPGs is Lionheart. Again, no support because the parent company went belly up but still an awesome game to play.

I was a long time Player of Rune also, I still have that but its not currently installed. If you like free for all online arena style combat, that is definitely a game to try.

Wild Tangent Games, had a decent diablo style RPG called fate. If you like Single Player RPG then that is definitely one I'd try.
