  1. By its nature AoE doesn't do as much damage per hit as melee and ranged. I wouldn't break the bank on AoE defense until I have ranged covered. That being said you could always take CJ, super jump, hover, fly and 3 slot the zephyr set and have quite a bit of ranged/AoE.

I also think doing that is dumb, but hey its still an option.

Coming from SR scrapper, I totally agree but I do have a concern. How much of my toon am I gimping shooting for defense numbers that can't easily break 30%?

I tried to see what would happen if i went with as much recharge as I could squeeze in. This is one expensive toon.

No suggestions? I guess I will go read up on Fire Aura since it is also resistance based and see the build suggestions.
  4. Imaheroe

    DM / Elec Mk II

Here is my current attempt at building a resist based toon. I know this is not optimum and I kinda have spread everything out but here is my build concept:

Some regen is important but not as necessary due to:

    Energize ready every 49 secs
siphon Life in the attack chain

    Defense:
Tried to get as much Smash/Lethal defense as possible with positional Def as a secondary.

Recharge is mediocre and relying heavily on LR.

    stamina:
Power sink is up every 30sec
Dark Consumption is up every 73sec (not sure If I should have this power or 6 slot it)

I picked Lighting Field at 30 because I had nothing else to go there but I guess I could reposition powers to get some things earlier (boxing or DC etc) Not even sure if I want this as a scrapper.

Is it a waste to go for defense on a resist based toon? Should I just scrap everything and load up recharge? Maybe pickup Hasten? (will need it 3 slotted)

Power Surge caps my resist but it so so so not perma.

  10. LoTG +rech, other then spend inf I don't have, is running TFs the best way to acquire these?

I have done lots of silver class rolls 34-39 range never hit this.

    Are these a gold roll?

I have this but only because I could buy it for 5000 and get all the salvage for under 2mill as oposed to the last 3 part IO that I couldn't buy for 20mil.

But hey, when it goes my spin now dows 330ish damage and I am 5 slotted decis.

The resistance lightning reflexes is for the most part a joke for how low it is.

While it obviously is more than other sets grant (note again invuln does grant btw) it is still VERY easily trumped.

Also, try going up against anything that has even the slightest hint of -regen, its not pretty. Death mages in any low-mid-late game CoT, any arachnos you fight, carnie dark ring mistresses, and master illusionsist dark servants. All will make energize just a 120s base recharge heal, ugh.
You can pop a green to see you through. But that is why I like the idea of pairing Dark Melee. Siphon Life is part of the attack chain and can help you get to the next energize, when ever that will be.

  16. Thats impressive. Now I only need, is to be able to affford all the high end IOs. but thats what I was going for anyway.
  17. Ok I have reworked my claws SR into a more expensive build. currently I am softcapped and I can solo burn notice in about 15min at +5. I am just tightening up some recharge and regen. This particular build has eviscerate instead of shockwave. I am not a fan of shockwave although it is ranged. I am not a fan of Eviscerate's animation either so I might just fill level 32 with a set mule power or something.

I am going for Dark Melee. Always like dark concept but never got one past 32 and it was pre IO.

Have the name reserved on pinnacle: Infernal Voltage

Drop Petrifying gaze or vengence or something else from your seconday. Darkest night is too useful.
Also I hope you get your travel power alittle sooner...you wont be staying in AE all day after i16

ok, thanks for clearing all that up guys. I can stand to lose PG. Normally I run a Safeguard mission for the temp travel and it lasts me into the 30s. on this char, I got a little AE crazy and passed up my chance. I think I can do it in ourbours? maybe?

i tried with a 2nd build and found that 40% was about where i could hit. the reason is cause i didnt wanna lose out on any damage output the fire tank has which is the main reson behind fire tanks...damage.

obilerations and touch of death are your freinds...along with titaniun coating and gausiian set

all have melee def which is what i would go for above all being a melee toon.the issue there is finding enough slots
Yes i know the defense soft cap is 45%. I was talking about Smas/lethal resistance. I have it 71% but that is 19% away from tank resistance cap. is there a way to make up that last 19% with IOs? I don't think there is.

This guys defense is around 30 to melee/ranged and 20 to AoE. I am not seeing a good way to boost it further.

here is a slight mod to what I originally posted:

  22. I am trying to help out a guild mate rework his fire/fire tank. My main is an SR scrapper so I know the power of defense and like to build a lot of defense. problem with fire aura is it is resistance based.

So a few questions. Is it possible to cap S/L resistance? I can get to 71 but thats a long way to go to 90.

I am not familiar with building tanks so most of my attack choices are what I like to use in scrappers and help buff defense but this is a tank. What is the consensus to IOing tanks?

Here is what I have so far:
