Need a help building a kat/elec

I tried searching for a good build to base my new scrapper off of but I couldnt find one and the other thread about kat/elec is filled with more numbers babble than any useful build information.

I have been trying to come up with a build in mids but for some reason with this combo I fail. I want to be able to run solo missions set for 8 so I need the AoE and the cone attack and I wanted to cap S/L or get as close to the cap as possible and just rely on DA for the rest. I dont plan on PvP with this build just regular missions, badge hunting, TFs ect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also money is not an option because I'm probrably going to work up to the build on the way to 50 and use inf from my main and most likely respec out some of her IOs to use and buy some with her merits.

So I'm guessing by the lack of replies that either this is either hard to do, impossible, or ElA is too new for scrappers for me to get this kind of help. Guess I will just have to keep playing around with mids until I find something.

Does anyone know if it would be easier to go the S/L def route or would it be easier to try and get ranged and AoE def?

For me, it's just too new. I haven't played around with electric builds yet. However, given that the set is entirely based on resistance, and that you already have melee covered with Divine Avalanche, I would definitely go for positional defense over typed defense.

Thanks for the reply, I will try to come up with a build using positional defense and let you guys pick it apart. Three questions before I try to put this together though.

1. Does anyone know how useful a build would be without AoE defense. I can cap melee defense with DA and without having to worry about AoE I can focus on ranged and I'm pretty sure that I would be able to cap ranged and get some other good bonuses in. Also just playing around in mids I can tell that slots and power picks are tight.

2. How good is Flashing Steel vs. Lotus Drops? If I need to drop one of the 2 powers which would be the best one to drop. Flashing Steel has a nice quick animation and is easy to line up after lining up GD but Lotus Drops is PBAoE and is where I put my chance for -res proc because it is more likely to hit more MoBs.

3. Will the endurance tools in energize and power sink be enough to let me keep up a good attack chain without stamina or will it pretty much be like using 4 attacks then watching my blue bar waiting for power sink to recharge?

Thanks again for any help

By its nature AoE doesn't do as much damage per hit as melee and ranged. I wouldn't break the bank on AoE defense until I have ranged covered. That being said you could always take CJ, super jump, hover, fly and 3 slot the zephyr set and have quite a bit of ranged/AoE.

I also think doing that is dumb, but hey its still an option.

I don't think I'd go for soft-capped ranged with almost no AoE. I'd probably go for something in the middle on both. My feeling is that I get hit with more ranged than AoE, so I want more ranged than AoE, but I wouldn't neglect either.

If I had to choose between Flashing Steel and Lotus Drops, I'd keep Lotus Drops. Better to hit everyone around you, particularly when setting your missions for 8. But I'd want to have both for that scenario.

I almost never have enough endurance no matter how much recovery I'm packing because I'll always find a way to spend it. However, I haven't looked into Power Sink or what a typical Katana/Electric build might look like. I doubt it's an exception, though.

(Edit: On closer examination, maybe you WON'T need Stamina. In large crowds, even with just normal recharge, Power sink is a full endurance bar every 30 seconds or so. That's a huge amount of recovery, and only gets better with additional recharge in the build.)

Powersink is an auto-hit power that recharges in a base 60 seconds which grants you a base 25 end for each target hit but costs 13 end to cast and has a 2.03 second cast time.

My biggest problem with it has been having enough enemies to fuel it while solo. With the difficulty slider, I believe this may not be an issue anymore. I also have never slotted it as well as I could, because I do not fight single hard targets a lot.

Figure with slotting you can return ~34 end every ~30 seconds off one target, ~80 off two targets.

Edit: Which I see you have edited into your post, so like, nvm.

Ok, this is attempt number one, please feel free to pick it apart and show me what I can change to make it better. I tried to squeeze as much ranged and AoE defense out of it while keeping the two as even as possible right now all I could get was 34.9 ranged and 37.7 AoE... I also skipped stamina but picked up conserve power and physical perfection and with energize running I get 2.3 eps and energize has a 11sec downtime. Please pay no attention to the slot lvls because if I do chose this build then I'll go back through and adjust the lvls. Also the PvP %3 defense IO I will pull off of my main. Again thanks for any assistance.

purple colors make eyes bleed.

If katana is bringing defense in DA.
and your getting resistance from your secondary.
Wouldnt you want to improve regen for total layered protection.

Instead of adding position/typed defense bonus's with IO's, doesnt it make more sense to try to increase another layer of mitigation?

Double stacked DA is goin to give you 32% s/l defense, Add a steadfast and CJ and your at roughly 40% s/l def. Ill rely on my /secondary for oddball damage types.

With the new changes to /elec's regen power (forget the name), and body masterys new physical perfection. Id imagine you could get impressive +regen goin.

Take leadership up to health. dont take stamina. Pick up tough/weave... this is makin my altitis flare up again.

Just a thought.

There are a couple of reasons that I wanted defense over regen, the first would be as others have stated with a resistance based secondary every debuff in the game will hit you but with defense that mitigates a good percent of the debuffs. Also the build I posted above even without health gets 26hp per second which imo could be better but still isnt that bad, while I would love to fit health into this build I dont really know what two powers I could drop to fit in swift and health (two powers that I agree compliment the build very well).

I could probrably do without grounded, the only thing that worries me there is losing the end drain resistance on a stamina-less build. So that leaves me with having to drop one of my attacks.

I guess I can keep playing around with mids until I can find a better balance, thanks for the reply.

Energize buffs your regen for 30sec. I have it about doubled on my DM/elec build.

defense without +defence debuff is worthless.

Why do you think the cry for /sr's change in defense debuff protection.

Either way softcapped kat/elec or high regen kat/elec will be beast.

Same thing I was thinking. Also, not everything has def debuffs. Not to mention the fact that if you don't get hit in the first place, you won't be debuffed. Auto hitters are another story.

Here's a build I came up with that's more offensive based with some really decent HP and regen values. There are two power options left, as well as three additional enhancement slots to play with. With double stacked DA you will be just over the melee soft cap, although there isn't a whole lot in the way of non-lethal ranged or AoE defense.

With what I have you should be able to chain GD, SD, DA and LD without a gap, although there might be a 1/2-1 second gap before lotus drops is up again. If you're worried about it you could grab hasten and it would be almost perma, but it's not really necessary for anything besides shaving another 10 seconds off of energize, which could be handy. Popping out lotus drops every 5 seconds combined with lightning field should be pretty good AoE, and the two high end damage attacks should rip through ltns and bosses pretty fast.

With capped melee and lethal defense, capped energy resist, very high smashing and lethal resist, and average fire/cold/psi resist, I imagine this would be pretty tough accompanied with the self heal/regen from energize. The only gaping hole is toxic damage, which is why I might grab power surge just in case.
