Quote:But I have the vet reward that lets me get the travel power without getting the pre-req...Note that this design allows you to have all your primary, all your secondary, and all your epic powers, plus the two pool picks to get a travel power. This is not an accident.
So now I have all my primary, secondary and epic powers, and my travel power and still an extra power slot... totally unfair man...
::grumbles.:: Stupid game giving me too many damn powers ::grumbles.:: -
I first saw City of Heroes in June 2004 sitting on a game stop shelf. I nearly bought it then but passed on it for another title.
October 10th 2005, after seeing that City of Villains was coming out and once again being very intrigued, I got home after work and was surfing the net to find out more about City of Heroes and Villains. I found that I could buy CoH on Direct2Drive and put it straight on my computer for 30$. I figured it was a great way to try the game before I decided on paying 60$ for City of Villains.
I remember being drawn in by the music, the sound effects, the descriptions of the ATs during the install screens, the interface was very comic book like and smooth. I was blown away by the number of AT and power choices then more blown away by the costume creator. I remember wanting to try each AT, wanting to toy with all the powersets.
The goal to get a level 50 of Each AT didn't pop into my mind until later on after I'd played a bit. I never thought I'd have that many level 50s since my first one took me 15 months to get ( I took a lot of breaks in that first year or so.)
But as of 3:12 Pacific time, June 16 2011, closing in on 6 years after I started playing the game, I reached my long time goal of getting a Level 50 of each AT!
The goal started a while back, I saw a couple others on the forums mention it was a goal of there's, at the time I had only a couple 50s and thought of it as a sort of nifty goal that I might work towards slowly. It wasn't until about the time going Rogue came out that I had enough 50s of various ATs that I realized the goal was reachable. After closing out my final Villain At, my Dominator last week, I've spent the last week and a half bringing my Warshade from 30 to 50 to finish my Hero ATs!
Just thought I'd share!
Anyway some fun facts of my CoH career....
-I started playing in I5. I remember having to ask people when they kept talking about I4, I5 and I6, what the hell any of that meant. People were more than happy to explain it to me.
- My very first character wore green and black tights, he was a Stone\Mace tanker. He didn't make it through tutorial because I thought the stone Armor was ugly.
- I played something like 5 days or maybe a full week in the game never joining a team, mostly because it was my first MMO and I was still feeling it out. Once I joined a team and saw how fun it was, I never went back.
- My second character ever was just something I created to mess around with a powerset I was curious about. An Assault Rifle\Devices blaster. She started as an experiment. She's been my main hero for years, with over 1100 badges and completely set enhanced with all Tier 4 Incarnate powers.
- I bought CoH to test it before I got CoV, which I really wanted. I ended up liking Hero side more.
- Between my 17 50s and my other alts, I've "Dinged" level up over 1000 times.
So I've reached my milestone. I still love this game, more than ever perhaps and I'm always excited for the future. I'm sure I20.5 will be amazing and I can't wait to see what's in I21. In the mean time I just wanna close my little milestone post with a thought:
When I first started playing this game, I'd invariably have a ton of questions just from what I saw people discussing in broadcast. I'd get stuck, or have problems with something or just out right curious about some things. I never had an issue finding an answer. When I posted a question in broadcast, or even asked some one, without fail I'd get an answer or get pointed to some one who had an answer. The learning curve in this MMO wasn't nearly so bad because of the community of people that were always happy to help. When I was pointed to the forums, that became even more true as the people here have given me tons of advice and help over the years. Add to that some fantastic experiences of Hero Cons, and Meet N greets and introducing my girlfriend to this game. It's been nothing but fun memories, from the wonderful, gracious hard working devs right down to all the people who I've teamed with or disagreed with, this is a fantastic community. I look forward to hopefully, 6 more years and my next milestone... Filling all of my 36 slots on Virtue with 50s. I've got 17 now so I'm almost half way there!

I saw it, I didn't realize it was playable. Freaking cool.
What did you mean you made that? -
Quote:And probably only blurred or brief partial glimpses at that. The only good thing I can say from the trailers is that it doesn't look like it's filmed shakey-cam style. Otherwise...meh. It's another Cloverfield where you probably won't see the actual monster/whatever for more than a minute or two.
I've seen cloverfield, and ET, and with the number of previews I've seen, I'm betting I could piece together the general plot of this movie fairly easily. -
Honestly, I haven't seen this movie, but with the number of Ads for it I've seen on Hulu and TV and in theatres, it's probably already killed a cumulative total of 2 hours of my life...
To say nothing of the fact that the stupid preview is on my Iron Man 2 DVD and even an "in game" preview came with Portal 2, where I can play a 2 minute mini game of the teaser trailer...
Sometimes I wonder if studio execs get a finished movie, realize it's crud and just toss millions into advertising hoping to recoup their investment in the first week or two before word gets around the the movie is horrible.
It'd been a long time since I've gotten this fed up with movie ads, but I'm so ready for this movie to come out so I can never see another trailer for it.
And no I won't watch it, I never thought it looked good and after seeing so many commercials for it, I'm already sick of it. -
Quote:Well in the original Planet of the apes, the world was post apocolyptic, destroyed by nukes, big explosions etc. This is actually what gets me. Seeing as how you see posters all the time go "it's not realistic"
So far, I don't see any way gorillas could realistically take over the world, when it's billions versus an endargered species.
So all the apes have to do is sneak into a place where there is a big red button. We already trained them to push buttons...
Then find a way to survive nuclear winter. I'm sure there could be a plot device for this. But consider this.. Monkeys have essentially 4 hands. They can hold 4 guns at once while hanging from a tree....
We have weapons, but that doesn't mean they couldn't use them if they were super smart. -
Quote:Zombie apes that travel back in time to over throw hitler and take over the world as Nazi Zombie Apes? Perhaps they invade japan and learn the art of the Ninja? Ninja Nazi Zombies Apes. And what if they were then forced to retreat to their secret antartic base and take a rocket to the moon? Ninja Nazi Zombie Apes from the Moon! Or only defense, mutated flowers from space that shoot deadly peas!James Franco has a terrific screen presence. I think the film has real potential to reinvigorate the franchise. Now, add zombie apes to the mix...we have a real winner.
I'd see that Movie. It'd be "Rise of the Iron Sky Moon planet of the Ninja Assasin Apes.
Coming soon to a theatre near you!
(sorry, haven't had my caffeine yet this morning.)
EDIT: In the Sequel they come back with the power to transform. -

Quote:Don't forget to double it. After all the Anti hydrogen will release it's energy when it comes into contact with Hydrogen, as well the hydrogen, so you're going to have 2 atoms releasing their energy all over the place...E=MC^2
1 atom of Hydrogen has a mass of 1.67E-27 kg
(we'll assume 1 atom of anti-hydrogen has the same mass)
E = 1.67E-27 kg * (300,000,000 m/s ^2)
E = 0.00000000000000000000000000167 kg * 90,000,000,000,000,000 m2/s2
E = 0.0000000001503 kg*m2/s2 or 1.503E-10 Joules
Hardly a firecracker. In fact, I doubt it would even be measurable by anything but the most sensitive of equipment.
(Sorry if you doubled it and I missed it, I don't see it in the math, but I'm an English major) -
So I saw a preview on the net a little bit ago, it was a shorter one. And then I saw the longer preview tonight with X-men. I had my mom with me which was cool because she and her high school friend (my godmother) were huge into planet of the apes when they were younger. I think they sat through like 4 or 5 of them in a marathon at the theatre once.
Anywho, being really big into planet of the Apes, she got pretty jazzed about it. I'm more impressed now with the longer preview too, so it'll be fun to take her to see it when it comes out (hopefully midnight showing.) I wanna see it with a diehard PotA fan, it'll make for interesting discussion afterwords. -
Quote:And go where? If they set the atmosphere on fire, it'd catch up to their cars, or they'd run out of air... Well I'm sure they didn't think that far ahead... But that's kind of funny. There are stories floating about that the scientists and military guys testing the first atom bomb left their cars running, just in case the atmosphere caught fire and they had to flee.
Ahh, the joys of naive ignorance...

I love this, so when can we start making enough to smash together with matter and use the energy to power things instead of using gas and coal... Screw green energy I want matter\antimatter energy... -
Just saw the flick and I really liked it, a lot more than I expected to. The first really good X-men movie since X-2 and honestly, maybe the best one so far.
***SPOILERS************
So I thought it was really well done, they put a lot of pieces in play and handled most of them fairly well. Getting to see young Xavier and Magneto, there relationship etc, was very interesting. Seeing Magneto's background explored, also very interesting, and handled well. I got the sense in this movie of Magneto being a damaged, tortured soul and that being a lot of his motivation, which worked well..
I also think they did a good job portraying the other side of the coin, showing both sides had motivation and it wasn't just Good Mutants V Bad Mutants. The Bad mutants had a point in this movie, humanity would be extinct as mutants became the dominant species, they would fight them, violently and never accept them, maybe it'd be better if they just put humanity out of it's misery so to speak. They "bad" mutants, well at least magneto, frost and some of them came off as more understandable.
All in all handled very well, Mystique, Frost and Moira the CIA agent, all very nice eye candy all did their roles very well too. I will say that I think they wanted to do a lot with Mystique and the actress did a great job playing that sort of insecure young mutant girl, trying to find her place, a boy to like her etc. Though the writing for her felt clumsy in some places with her lines, though she did well with the material, also I felt a lot of her scenes were stunted, perhaps to cut room for the other stuff, but the scenes with her and magneto seemed so short, like there should be more meat to them but they were truncated or something. Very curious to see the "deleted scenes" of this one.
All in all, surprisingly well written, directed and performed. I noticed Bryan Singer was one of the writers, which probably explains the good writing, he seemed to really understand the X-men.
Good ol Michael Ironside as the Us fleet Captain, he's had quite the career playing military types. And is Hugh Jackman contractually obligated to show up in every single X-men movie? Still found that little sequence to be humerous. -
Quote:No and yes.
Would Vaughn's directing have made X-3 better? Or were its shortcomings due to script and story?
No amount of directing would have made that story or the writing in that movie good. At a certain point, actors and directors have to work with the material and the material in X-3 was... I'm trying to think of a word worse than abysmal....
X-3 was beyond saving by acting and\or directing. X-3 needed a page 1 re-write by a completely new writing staff. Seriously, watch that movie, listen to some of the dialogue and try to follow that story. Anything less than a total re-write, would not have saved that movie.
I'll see this flick, just because I'm an X-men fan and I like action movies. That said I'm not expecting a lot. I don't follow the comics closely, but whenever movie companies start taking massive licenses with the source material I have to scratch my head and wonder why they used the source material in the first place. It really must be a brand name thing. That said, maybe it'll be good. A number of people here seem to think so. -
Pop off a couple EMPs near our major military bases or communications centers and we are *****. Honestly we've become so reliant on our technology, take it away and will we have issues adjusting.

Quote:Alright no bribes are necessary, but are they completely un-welcome?
Hahaha, no bribes necessary. I'd be curious to hear your feedback on the new Bubbles path aura, and whether this gets the job done.
For that matter, I'd love to hear everyone's feedback on the 20.5 auras, especially the path auras. It's the first time we've released a big batch of these, so I'd like to know your reaction to them.
Looked at your path Auras in the beta. The best feed back I can think of, at the risk of sounding greedy, Can we get more please? They are freaking epic.
Ohh and on the subject of the FX department, is there anyway we can get a version of the prestige power slide without all the purple effects? It'd be nice to look like I was sliding on my ice path and not the pink energy cloud of doom. -
Quote:Yeah, it was pretty horrible IMO.Eh it was ok, not great. I simply took my disbelief and tossed it off a cliff and forgot all about suspending it. Then I sat back with a drink and some popcorn and watch guns fire, and things blow up.
It was adequate from that point of view and it doesn't hurt that I really haven't seen or read any of the jonah hex comics.
It wasn't a good movie, don't get me wrong but it wasn't a horrible movie either. There are really really bad movies out there and this one wasn't one of them. I generally get bad B horror movies and sci fi movies on netflix in hopes of catching the occasional gem and I'll rate this one as an eh... not horrible, not good but not horrible.
The opening intro where they talk about his becoming undead and chasing down Turnbull, finding out he died in a fire. That could have been it's own movie for one thing, and the way they did it left no doubt in my mind that the big bad wasn't dead. Yet they seemed to rely heavily on the surprise of the man still being alive.
Also, they start the movie so quickly that his betrayal of his friends for the sake of doing the right thing, and the murder of his family, meant nothing to the viewer. It all happened in under 5 minutes before the viewer could give a damn about the protagonist.
The rest of the writing was horrible, many of the scenes accomplished nothing except filler, the acting was wooden and there was no redeeming feature to the movie. I won't say it had no plot, but the plot it had was assinine at best. They had some sort of 1860s nuke shot out of a cannon? What the hell was that..
The movie was terrible, just terrible. I never read a Jonah Hex comic, I'm not mad that they destroyed the methos or what ever, (but I'd be dollars to donuts they did.) But the movie was terrible. -
Quote:I found the stuff, its just weird the way they describe it in the store to how it is in game.http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Steampunk_Pack#Upper_Body
The jackets are [Classic/Victorian] Steampunk Jacket. The bustiers are chest detail, [Classic/Victorian] Steampunk 01. -
Quote:See I disagree. I think almost anything can work as a movie if is done correctly, or even well. The Same can be said about the Green Hornet, I watch the old tv so and love it and other stuff about it is great however. Now the Movie came out and the main Character is dumb as hell, the Whole Movie was an Joke, I think some stuff should not be made into movies.
Look at the Batman and Robin Movie. that thing was horrible and some one watching that might think Batman shouldn't be made into a movie. Then look at Batman Begins or TDK, obviously it works if it's done well.
Jonah Hex and Green Hornet were not done well. Seth Rogen had no business writing part of Green Hornet, it's not his kind of material. -
I seem to be missing the "bolero jacket" and "lacey Bolero" jacket. I'm also apparently missing The leather bustier bottom. Can some one tell me where to find them, or are they missing?
-
Nope, didn't even buy it until after the problem though it seems fixed now, U just got into the defender that was locked up in AP.
-
So I just logged into my Defender and tried to go from RWZ to Atlas Park. It froze at the loading screen, nothing happened and I had to close CoH.
when I tried to re-log in to the defender, it told me he wasn't done logging out. I waited a couple minutes, same problem, isn't done logging out.
So I logged into my blaster, also in RWZ and tried to go to Atlas Park, and now it's frozen at the loading screen again.
Is there an issue on the servers right now, this is rather frustrating...
Edit: This is on Virtue. Now my blaster never made it to Atlas and once more I had to close the game down since after several minutes it did nothing. Both my Defender and Blaster can't be logged into because they are "still logging out" , I can get to other zones fine, but not AP and those toons are locked up... -
Quote:I didn't hear about this film until like 2 weeks before it released, I don't think it was in theatres long either, so yeah, I missed it.So you either missed, or were oblivious to the vast amount of hate and bad reviews the film got when it came out.
I kinda wish I had missed it entirely, this is one of those times I wish my brain could un-see something. -
I'm often surprised at the amount of hate leveled for F2P and micro-transactions in general. I get that in some ways these things have been done poorly, or companies seem to be nickle and dime-ing the players in some cases, but I don't think that either F2P or Micro transactions are entirely bad ideas, it comes down to implementation.
If CoH were to go F2P I'd think these would be the main points.
-Little to no change for your subscriber base: keep your subscription, keep what you have now, the changes for these people would be minimal.
-Let people who play for free play the basic game 1-50, do the basic content, limit incarnate and end game content (Trials, level 50 task forces etc), and some select other content, I-17 arcs, new Posi TF, etc. to subscribers only.
- Sell costume pieces individually instead of in packs.
- Keep the online store and other "pay for 'X' options" unobtrusive, don't have dollar signs and "pay here" logos everywhere. There should be like one button on the menu to access the store and see what's available and that should be it.
- Don't let people who are free to play onto the forums.
- Make people have a valid e-mail address, and only one free account per e-mail address to limit some of the "making 50 free accounts" problems some of these games have had.
Honestly, I think given the nature of super boosters and the like, this game is already flirting with an F2P model and certainly doing some micro transactions, seeing them take it a couple steps further isn't hard to imagine, and if they did it right they could do it without affecting their existing players too much, outside of having, potentially, a lot more people to play with. -
So WTF was that movie? Seriously who thought that was a good idea to put on film, then print thousands of copies and put it in theatres?
Some one please tell me the comics weren't that bad. Were Josh Brolin and John Malcovitch trying to see who's career would nose dive harder from that flick?
I mean hell, that movie made "Wild Wild West" look like a stunning, epic depiction of the gritty west.
The only redeeming thing I can say about that movie was I watched it on an HBO account I'm not paying for, and I watched it while I played CoH, so I didn't waste any money and it wasn't a complete waste of 2 hours.
Ohh wow was that movie bad. Horrible dialogue, horrible writing, what was with that weird near-death quasi flash forward later turned into a hallucinogenic flash back. Hey it's the final fight of the film, but not really, and now were going to flash back to it like it was the last meeting of these two, except it wasn't he was just on way too much peyote...
You know it's a bad movie when Megan Fox's "acting" didn't make it any worse.
