    Hello, and welcome to Praetoria!

Now, I could be wrong (and I usually am about things like this), but I don't recall where anything ever said that Praetorian Counterparts had to look exactly alike in facial/body features... >.>
I believe the Devs have already stated that in Praetoria, things aren't exactly the same as on Primal Earth, and the people there aren't all "ebil twins".

Some things are incredibly different, no Lord Recluse in Praetoria, Ghost Widow never died and became attached to arachnos etc.

Some people are good in Praetoria and Primal Earth, some people are ebil in both places too.

It's not as simple as "everyone in praetoria gets a goatee and becomes the opposite clone of the person in Primal earth."

All that being said, their is no reason Calvin Scott couldn't look very different in praetorian earth. Especially with the revamps they have done to some of the other characters, (Marauder etc.)

    Also, on another note.

I find it both somewhat amusing and kind of sad that the Devs are being blamed for people's rampant unwarranted speculation on a TEASER picture... As if the Devs are to be faulted for what people speculated and assumed based on one screen shot.

This is like people who get mad about how many errors are in a movie based on the teaser trailer. It's amazing to me how few facts people need before they start getting pissed about something they have almost no information about.

I'd love light up costume pieces, and when I saw that pic I immediately got happy for the thought of it, but it took all of 2 seconds for my girlfriend to say "That looks like an NPC, don't get your hopes up." And even if she hadn't said that, I would still have waited for more info.

I honestly just don't see how the Devs are on the hook for this. People complain about a lack of info on GR then when they get info on GR they are ticked that they made the wrong assumptions...

Remember way back in the day when this thread got started and everyone was like “WOW those are great resistance costume pieces, I can’t wait to wear them, splat, splat, splat,” and “Oh super keen, first I changed my desktop to a lolz cat and now my crippling depression doesn’t seem so bad anymore, because I have a reason to live again, I get to wear glowing stuff.” Well, get out a mop and find something sharp. That picture is of a NPC, not a new costume set.

Me so sorry about that there wasn’t a clearer explanation of what was going on in the screenshot, I really am. But when you get down it and think about this rationally, this is really your fault, you jumped to a conclusion. You know I told you a thousand times not to do that, but I guess I need to teach you another lesson in the silence of the basement, next to the treadmill you don’t use anymore. Looks like you and I won’t be going over to your mothers for dinner like you planned. Canceled! The writing is on the wall baby, you are going to just have to tell the neighbors how clumsy you are, and just deal with it. Let the guilt of your wrong doings lead you on a path to righteousness. You’re welcome.

See how I turned that around, take a note kids.

So Jay. That is our bad. I'll own up to it. We jumped to a conclusion and we didn't even have a good mat to do it on. However, if we did error it was because of two things.

A.) We all collectively find you so sexy and irresistible that we go crazy and lose all sorts of self control and logical thinking when it comes to you and your work, and we do silly things like a school girl with a crush.

B.) We love new things that are shiny. Luminescent costume pieces would be both very new and very shiny.

So the combination of going all GaGa at seeing your latest work and the image of new shiny objects, made us Squee prematurely. Forgive us please. Our error is one born out of love.

Now that I have owned up to it for the community, I ask only this. Light up costume parts please. We see that they can be done on NPCs and I think many of us would love the chance to have them on our Heroes, Villains, Rogues, Vigelantes, Resistance Members and Praetorians. They don't have to be just like the ones on that NPC, but light up costumes would be Amazing, and if such a thing is even possible, make us all find you even more sexy than we already do...

They can keep the data from the object and still not have it be in the game. They can save all that data on another disk or off server without having it in the live game, and still pull it up to be used later.

3: Why delete something that might be sharing resources with something else that IS being used in the game?
Assuming it is sharing resources with something else in the game at all. It was meant to be used with the Arena but the Arena system was built to bypass it completely. If it is sharing resources with something else in the game, all the more reason to pull it out so those resources are more dedicated to what ever else is using them.

4: Why take the time to delete something, kill all the possible references, decouple it from anything else it might affect, etc when you can just hide it and spend all that time bringing something NEW into the game instead?
Valid point except they did kill all the possible references and decouple it from anything else in the game it might affect. The room is sitting below the map, the doors don't work, no way to access it and it is so completely removed from the game that many people didn't know, and still don't know it's their. It was viewed as an urban legend by the OP, so it's obviously not something easily stumbled upon. They've decoupled it from the game already, what's the point in having it sit their?

I want to mention, I'm not advocating it be removed, far from. I'd advocate they let it stay and put it to use. I think it's a great room and I love little things like this in games. I've scoured many games I enjoyed looking for little things that the DEV team never fully used but left behind in the code for some reason or other.

I was simply stating I was very curious as to why something like this, so completely un-used in the game has been left to float below Peregrine Island for years through countless updates and issues and never was fully removed. In fact I'm still curious about it. The points you made above are valid, but they aren't the reason.

Also, thank you for setting me straight on when the Arena came out. So it's not been their 5 years yet, but it's getting close.

I told you not to mention that publicly. Now how am I supposed to get the DEVs to keep letting me in on their inside info when you run around blabbing everything I share with you?

Just so everyone knows, apparently they already have the strike team in place to take down the Rogue new hires. Uzbekistan has agreed to extradite, the money should be back soon and Going Rogue will be back on track.

    That is all.

The second point of data is that Going Rogue is ready. Well, just as a lot of players willingly choose to gloss over the Split in Issues that lead to Architecture Entertainment arriving with Issue 14 instead of Issue 13, and the rapid switch around as the devs juggled resources at the end of 2008 and through 2009, several players willingly choose to gloss over that the player base was not supposed to know about Going Rogue until the Fall / Winter HeroCon. The only reason we knew about Going Rogue before hand is that one of the marketing partners involved screwed up and sent out an email with the announcement several months before any news was supposed to be announced.

The result is that a lot of players, and by specific example here found in Doughboy, are advancing the schedule of Going Rogue's development by weeks, if not months, over where that development actually is. Many players are presuming that Going Rogue's feature and content list was already finalized as of the original email. Given what we know of the timing of the plans, it's actually likely Going Rogue's feature list wasn't finalized until shortly before HeroCon, or shortly afterwords.

    ***
I agree with the majority of your post and your sentiment but I think you are wrong here. My understanding of the whole Going Rogue announcement being sent "early" was a matter of hours, not months. The marketing team sent it out late on night when it wasn't supposed to be sent out until the next day. They had the press release and other things ready by then.

If you have contradicting info that states the announcement really wasn't supposed to be made until Hero Con, please share, I'd really like to see it.

Also I just can't believe they would wait until Hero con to make that announcement. After all they talked about going into Beta during Q1 of this year, waiting until Q4 of last year to announce something that close to Beta, doesn't seem to jive for the release of a Boxed Expansion. That sort of thing is a big deal and they are usually announced with more than just 3 or 4 before things start rolling into Beta.

I think it'd be great for a TF in that case. Hey you got to this room with cool stuff and several un marked doors. Several of these doors lead to traps, only one leads to the goal\boss\way out etc. If a team successful defeats the traps, they get teleported back to that room and have to pick again. Could be fun.
  7. So Arenas were added in what, Issue 1 or 2? Pretty early on in the game from my understanding, in the first year for sure.

This room was built to be a part of the Arena, decided that the step was unnecessary and they basically cut it out of the loop so that people didn't have to go to this room.

Then, even though players never saw this room and no direct access to it was ever pushed to live servers (Unless I'm missing part of the story.)

So this room has sat, unused, from the time of it's development through 14 or 15 issues over the space of 5 years or so, and the Devs never bothered to simply Ctrl Delete the room? This sounds a little fishy. I know some things get left in dark corners of games because they were over looked or were too troublesome to pull out, but the Dev team have certainly added and removed things from the zones over the yeas, I can't imagine this room couldn't just be removed.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic room and I'm glad it's their, I hope they make further use of it. But I really wonder why it's been there unused all this time. Honestly I smell something fishy.

And not just because I live in a van down by the river.
  8. Ohh and here is a suggestion. People who log out in this room should get a "Lord of The Underworld" Dayjob badge or something.
  9. I got into the room, this is very cool. My GF Was very impressed with the room. We both agree it needs to be made useful some how.

I did think it was funny, when I clicked on the doors in the room that little window that pops up and usually says "You Can't enter" came up with

    "can't find spawn target: Arena_LobbyW_04"

I never seen a message like that pop up in a window in this game, I find it amusing for some reason.

Anyway, thanx for the locations and pics guys. This room should have an uber exploration badge or something.

It makes me wonder, would all arenas have a room like this under it that people could find if they could get under the map.
  10. I have to wonder about things I see like this. It wasn't that long ago that I was told I couldn't join an ITF with my PB. The person who was running the ITF, who had never teamed with me before, claimed that because my PB was not level 50, (It was like 44-45 at the time but with Super side kicking I'm not sure what the difference is.) Because it was a PB, and not another archetype, and not fully IOed out, that I'd be a hinderance to the team and I wasn't allowed to join.

Yet I have played dozens of ITFs, many of them successful across a variety of characters, including over a dozen with my PB. I know for a fact that I can play the TF without slowing down the team and that while my PB may not be the strongest character on the team, it still gets the job done.

Though if I had only recently joined the game, and didn't know that it's more about the player and less about the build, and didn't know as much about the game, it's mechanics and stats. If I wasn't around before IO enhancements weren't available and hadn't seen what fully SO'd characters were capable of. An experience like that may have me thinking that IOs or Set IOs were completely imperative. So I don't know about the person the OP mentioned, but perhaps she has run into a few of the discriminating types and it's really affected the way she sees the game.

Hopefully in time she will see that this game is much more flexible though and that most people aren't going to discriminate based on things like IOs.
  11. So back in The Con of 08, I remember that some one asked one of the panels about getting the PPD hard-suit options for players. Sexy Jay stated that the pieces for the hard-suit were actually put in the game, just hidden so players couldn't access them because they didn't look at all good when used independently of each other or mixed and matched with other pieces.

That makes sense but I think I have come up with a solution and a possible avenue for some really cool new costume bits.

They should make another category of costume parts, along the lines of Tops, tops with skin, baggy, armored etc. Their should be some sort of "Ultra Tech Uber Mech Armor" type of style for upper body and lower body and head.

Instead of picking Robes or Jackets etc, some one could pick The new armor type set, which would contain PPD Hardsuit options as well as what ever other armored tech suit options Jay could come up with. They could even set it up so you had to have all of these together, so you couldn't say pick Armored top and tight bottoms.

This way Jay could make the parts all look reasonably good together, even if mixed or matched with other Hardsuit style costume bits. They could add new pieces to make new armored suits and be fully color customizeable and work with all the other armored suits. Then we could not only get PPD Hardsuits in a way that we can mix and match them and they'd work well, we could get a whole new style of costume and make things just that much more diverse.

This could always work well since as I recall, that other super hero MMO has mech suits of some sort, I wouldn't mind CoH stealing a little more of their thunder.

  13. All this talk about going into a PVP zone makes some one fair game seems sill to me.

I don't say this to offend anyone, but I honestly don't get it.

Person A goes into PvP to get a couple badges or a temp power or what ever. Person A is actively avoiding other players, dealing only with the things that person needs to in order to get the thing their after and get out of the zone.

Person B is in the zone in theory, to PvP. Person B sees person A and decides to shoot them in the back and kill them though Person A is actively not engaging them and is in fact running away.

Is person A fair game? Yes, within rules of the game they are. But why on earth would person B go after that person? I mean honestly, what joy do you get out of killing a non combatant who is actively avoiding a fight.

That's not really PvP, thats just you destroying some one. Is that fun, is their enjoyment in that? I honestly never got that.

Also, I think this is where PvPers shoot themselves in the foot so to speak. It wouldn't be hard for PvPers to simply go after people who were in the zone to PvP and ignore the passers by and let them get what ever temp they want and get out of the zone. They could simply go to the other people who PVP and take them out. Instead they choose to go after non-combatants and end up alienating people from PvPing all together. If people tried to be a little nicer about it, actually talk to the other people in PvP, try to get them into a friendly fight or explain to them about PvP, coach them as I have often seen people do in PvE, the PvP community might actually grow quite a bit more and make it more fun for everyone.

But hey, that's my 2 cents worth. PvP zones are in fact free fire zones, and their is nothing to say that killing who ever you see in the zone is against the rules or immoral or wrong in any way because it isn't. I just can't see how it's much fun or does any good outside of a quick "ohh awesome I killed some one in the back yay me" moment.

    Yes.

Actually my first reaction when reading through this thread was to say something very similar to this.

Some one else brought up poker, so I will continue with that.

I started a weekly poker game with my co-workers a couple months ago. People show up and buy in for 10$ and we usually get a pot around 100$ or more going by the end of the night after re-buys and what not. Now we pretty much all play to win. We all want the cash and we all do our best to take each others chips. None of us cheat, (to the best of my knowledge,) but we do try and take the pot by the end of the night. It can get fairly competitive especially with those of us who have been playing a while and we really like to just go for it.

However even with money at stake, the game never gets mean or dis-respectful. Sure their are some friendly insults or jabs tossed across the table at times, and even the best of us get frustrated when we lose a bad hand, but after 3 months of doing this weekly with a couple new people coming in from time to time, no one has ever been nearly as harsh on each other as say in a fairly mild game of online Halo. At the end of the game, we all still hang out or talk or shake hands or what ever, and though we go for the money, it's never gotten ugly, out of hand, no one has ever left the table out of anger etc.

So the point being, is that you can play competitively, and play to win and still be a nice person, be a good sport, be a good loser and a good winner. However that all takes a modicum of class and civility, and frankly a lot of people, when given the shield of anonymity provided by the internet and online games in general, tend to feel they can and should say or do what ever they want. This leads to people being complete jerks and really very foul and vulgar when I think a large number of them would never act that way if they were face to face with you.

This is a cool list and I certainly learned a couple things from it. Though I feel like a lot of it is more common knowledge than some might think.

However the things I quoted above, to be fair, are really only very recently possible. Before the removal of zone caps as a part of Super Side Kicking, Level ones couldn't go to RWZ or FBZ.

Still a very cool list, we should keep adding to it.

Also I had no idea about the moon, that's strange. Wonder if that's why their are so many attacks by zombies, the moons all out of whack.
  17. Ice_Wall

    Okay, So...

What, several threads about the same subject that's has to do with an update or new info on an update to this game? No... Say it isn't so man!

No seriously now... I feel like that was fairly predictable.
  18. My problem with PVP in this game is that it doesn't feel "super" to me in the slightest.

My chars, especially at high levels can clear out office buildings full of bad guys. They can mow down super powered mages, high tech robots, werewolves, mafia men, lowlife thugs and gangsters, unholy monsters and highly trained para military soldiers. They can do it in large numbers and with style. It's why I play the game, I feel like I'm playing a super hero.

PVP feels so anti-super it's not even fun. To me it should be the apex of the game, one Human played Super vs Another. It should be Spiderman Vs. Doctor Octopus. Superman VS Darkseid. It should be a knock down, drag out fight with holes in buildings and destroyed property in it's wake.

Even my strongest characters seem to die within 3 or 4 hits. I can't run away from a battle where I'm over matched because inevitably some NPC critter will shoot me once and make me fly at something like 3 miles per hour. Even the best of fights don't seem to last that wrong. (Though admittedly I have little experience in PVP.)

Can may chars be made to be stronger? I am sure they could. I just don't like the idea of having to completely rebuild and relearn my hero to fight in PVP, and even then it doesn't seem like most of the fights feel nearly as epic or super as they should.

Also, my experience with the PVP community in this game hasn't really left me wanting more. Now I don't mean any dis-respect, and I am sure many of the PVPers are nice folks, but in my admittedly very limited attempts at PVP, I can't say it was remotely fun or pleasant. PVP in this game seems to occur at a hyper competitive level I'm not interested in.
  19. Ice_Wall

    Okay, So...

Well I was going to post something on this. But it seems other people are even more impatient than I am. Or Maybe I'm just slightly better at hiding it.

It's the end of monday, still no Going Rogue info, and that makes me a sad panda.

I'm fairly sure I remember from Herocon the Devs said GR would be going into beta January 2010.

Does anyone else remember this? I don't trust my memory with something I like this much, it plays tricks on me. I know even if they did say that it could be subject to change, but I'd really like to see some beta this month. Or even today, or this very second.... I don't think it would happen, but if it did, I would squee myself
  20. If you give a mouse a cookie.... He is going to want a glass of milk...

If you give a Fanboy something he wants... He will complain you didn't do it right and demand you do it 10 more times.

Edit: I love the new Ninja Run and Walk "travel modes" just the way they are. Customization of these power would be nifty, but there have to be so many other things I can think of that would be priority.
  21. I did and bugged it twice, no responses yet.
  22. I am running a positron TF with a few other people and we have gotten to a mission where when ever any of us tries to get into the mission, it won't load or we are kicked from the game. Anyone know whats going on with this?
  23. I am running a positron TF with a few other people and we have gotten to a mission where when ever any of us tries to get into the mission, it won't load or we are kicked from the game. Anyone know whats going on with this?
  24. So funny thing...

Not long after it was stated or hinted at by the Devs that the Super Booster Packs would be theme based on Origins, sometime between pack 1 and 2, I thought of any number of martial arts\ninja themed Items I wanted to see in the game. I kept meaning to send the Ideas to Jay and put them in the costume suggestion thread. I never did.

Then when there were a couple hints at Hero con about the next pack being Ninja theme, I caught up with Jay in the hallway and joked that he must have been reading my mind if they made some ninja gear.

Now I have to wonder if they did read my mind, as a number of things that I thought of and wanted appeared. The gloves, the new mask, the boots and the "robes" not to mention, I've been wanting a combined speed\jump power for a long time, I think I may have actually suggested something like that over a year ago, I can't remember.

Anyway, well done Devs. Very well done, costume pieces are amazing, the new ninja run is awesome. I love the new animations, the push ups emote had me cracking up when I saw it and all in all, a very cool pack. I bought it first thing this morning and was so happy to see it out finally. Well done and bravo....

I just want to see one or two more things added to it and I'm going to go put those in the costume thread, you apparently ready my mind but skimmed a few ideas...
  25. I think you guys are over estimating this by quite a bit. I'm not a specialist in polygon budgets and how many calculations are needed per second to generate a scene, but I have a fair idea on how this stuff works and I was there for the hero con presentation.

Ultra Mode graphics are not a complete overhaul of the games graphics engines. Ultra Mode graphics simply seem to include some new bells and whistles in the game. Reflections, dynamic shadows, ambient inclusion, new water effects etc. The developers themselves have said that these graphics will be there for people with newer machines as a luxary.

That being said, they didn't redesign everything in the game, they didn't revamp all of the SFX and textures and character models for this. At it's core, this will still be the same game it has been for 5 years. It will have some nifty new affects to give things a better look, but it's not like all of a sudden it's going to be completely new graphics, just a few additions that will require more computing power than older systems generally have.

I really don't think you will need top of the line hardware to run a 5 year old game that just got a few modern techniques added to it. When they say that this will only run on faster systems, "faster" is a relative term, relative to some really old and slow systems some people still play on.

I don't think you will need over 2 gigs of ram. I would be surprised to find out 1gb of Video card RAM was completely necessary. I would guess that an Nvidia 8800 would run it fine. Im certain a 9800 would.

Really guys, it's not a brand new game, just an upgrade, relax.
