  1. I wasted 67 seconds of my life reading the first post.... I want a refund!
  2. Whether the #SaveCoH campaign works or does not... I know that I have done everything I can to help save the first MMO I have ever played and still play.

Not doing anything will not save this game, but there is a chance that doing something/anything will... I will continue to do something/anything I can
  3. I have GW2. Now granted due to work etc I have not been playing much. I like the visuals and many things about the game, BUT it is not a replacement for CoH for me...I still have hope that we can #savecoh

Did you just call me stupid???

  7. Yeah I cannot find my toon in there LOL. He is 4ft tall and gray/light purple metallic costume.

  9. Sorry TonyV... I did the screenies for Virtue, but seeing as how it was full and Freedom was heading that way as well.. I never made it over to Freedom hehe

And complete knee-jerk reactions should not be confused with maturity/morality/justification. I realize this is an emotional issue for some people, but threatening a lawsuit is no way to convince NCSoft that we (players) are someone that could even be dealt with either pro se or by an outside corporation/investors.

NCSoft has already stated they would contact people individually regarding sub time etc. Have they contacted you?? If not then how do you know what they plan on offering you?

Sorry but I think you are jumping the gun and in doing so representing us (players) when we never asked for your representation; because frankly I would not go about doing things the way you are currently. The concerns have been passed on by Zwill, and I would hope you could be respectful of his request and wait for official communications from NCSoft.

And you may want to re-read the User Agreement; the one that no one forced you to accept but that you knowingly accepted every time you launched CoH.

First off, this post is NOT meant to discourage you guys. Just remember we have to deal in facts as well as hope.

Larry did some fact-checking and money-tracing (he's the brains of our operation, I just do the heavy-word-lifting). This is what he found.

"The essence of it all appears to be as simple as this: NCsoft is owned by Nexon Co. Ltd., and Nexon has a record of only being interested in what benefits Asian gamers, and last quarter, their push was heavy East and EU.

Paragon Studios employed 80 people. Nexon employs 3,400. City made $800k clear profit a month. Nexon's quarterly was $242 million, and their latest 1 of 60 MMOs registered 3 million players in China last month. Nexon has been at a steady $1.1 to $1.2 billion dollar company for 3 years.

As big as CoH has been to us, City wasn't even a blip seen from Tokyo and Seoul. Someone 5,000 miles away (who likely never played any game the corporation owns---and even their largest shareholder only has a 21 percent share) said "reduce North American assets," and this happened. And with a billion people in China as a market for Nexon's free-to-play/micropayment 2D MMOs versus a highly-technical American-based 3D MMO, they saw no reason to bother (or, really, even take notice)."

This is actually something we can parlay. I mean, hello? $800k PROFIT PER MONTH with an 80 person staff? That sounds like a THRIVING small business to me! This is something worth investing in! If any of you actually write on small business blogs, this story would be worth starting over there--giant asian firm DUMPS profit-making business. This could get any potential investor with his salt salivating.

That should help with some of those "how much money was COH making?" question.

I understand the anger that you're feeling, believe me I feel the same, but we need NCSoft to play ball with us, as well as potential investors and talks of lawsuits will either just make NCSoft think they made a wise decision or scare off investors. We're still in the saving the game phase, either by reversing the decision or selling it to another company that'll keep the game going, lets just stay focused on that for the moment.
QFT - Running around screaming "I'm gonna sue you!" is not the most productive way in trying to get negotiations started.

I contacted the company via its webpage form here:

    This is what I said:

I saw in Courthouse News that you filed a class action lawsuit against Square Enix of America Holdings, Inc on behalf of Final Fantasy XI players. I am tipping you to an opportunity to file a similar lawsuit against NCSoft with regards to its game City of Heroes.

On August 31st, 2012 the company announced that it is cancelling the game and the servers will shut down for good on November 30, 2012. The company is refusing to give refunds to customers who purchased server access time beyond that date.

Over 100,000 people play City of Heroes. Of that number I do not know how many have subscriptions prepaid beyond November 30th. Only one of my accounts is prepaid beyond that point (to January 1 2013).

I am willing to be your first customer. I will help you find more.
Maybe you should have waited for an official announcement from NCSoft regarding pre-paid time before doing that? Since NCSoft is not refusing to give refunds as they have not made an official statement yet regarding such things....just saying.

    EXACTLY!

I still have hope. I guess if by November 29th nothing has changed...I will save my characters. The worst part is my best friend doesn't even log in anymore. That is the hard part for me; I mean sure I love CoH, but the losing friends and even friendly acquaintances is what is tearing me apart.

Like I said... some people are not into the whole #SaveCOH campaign

I tried convincing one of my friends to come join me on Virtue (I play on Freedom as do all my friends), but instead he logged out and said it would be too depressing. He is the exact opposite of me: He logs on every day and plays like he never heard the announcement (Yes denial)...me on the other hand...I log on; chat a lil and log. I haven't actually PLAYED CoH for a week now

No they were complaining that people wouldn't let TonyV talk - you know one of the organizers of the rally.

And meanwhile, we can get about 4000 people to actually show up - just LOG INTO THE GAME and show solidarity. Just 4000. 15,000 signatures and (you claim) more than 15,000 players, but barely 4k who'll actually show up to say "don't close my game!"

That's why NCSoft isn't going to bat an eye at this, sadly.

Also, we have no idea if COH was *profitable* or not. We have no idea what their overhead is.
I didn't claim CoH had 15,000 players - I never claimed how many subscribers CoH currently has. If I were to guess I would say the total number of VIP players is anywhere between 50,00-60,000 (which would be half of the last published number from 2009 http://www.alteredgamer.com/pc-gamin...r-populations/).

Many of my globals were not on. And actually of the 15 or so who were - 8 were on a Doc Q TF (on Freedom). Like I said some people simply aren't into the whole "Save COH" campaign as they view it as a waste. I was on skype with one friend who was trying to get on but spent almost an hour in the Virtue Que and decided to go to Freedom instead.

FYI 4,000 was Virtue server by itself.... And believe it or not some people actually can't log on at certain times. Not every player is EST or even in the US for that matter. Some people work weekends..some people have lives outside of CoH. One of my friends I have played with for 3+ years couldn't make it due to work....so no - one rally at one specific time is not indicative that CoH only has X amount of players.

NCSoft lost $6 million in the last quarter NOT Paragon/CoH...just want to make that abundantly clear. Last I heard CoH had way more than 15,000 paid subscriptions... way more. You have to realize that; even with the closing, most players do not bother with the forums.

Regarding the petition - unfortunately a few players I know have the stance of "why bother" and haven't even "signed" the petition. Some people took the announcement and accepted defeat; while others are doing whatever they can to try and save Paragon City.

I remember seeing some graph or something a few years ago that had CoH at approx 150,000 active subs - multiply that by $15 and you get a nice chunk of change every month, but then you have to figure in Paragon salaries, NCSoft "fees", servers, etc etc etc etc....so while Paragon/CoH has always been profitable....NCSoft didn't think what "little" profit CoH brought in was worth their time.
  23. I have nothing negative to say about the CO community as I only spoke to one person in game. I am just way too accustomed to CoH that CO feels completely alien to me. I stated before that the big hurdle for me were the graphics...I just found them to be ugly and that is why I will not continue playing CO.

If/when CoH closes and some heroes of Paragon make their way to CO I truly hope they enjoy their experience, make lots of new friends, etc.
  24. Here is hoping that this rally has some positive results

A few friends were stuck in Que for Virtue so instead started Rallying on our home server of Freedom
  25. 5 minutes before the rally and we are at 31!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
