This'll probably be my last post on these boards too.
See you guys over on the new boards!

The netbook sports an integrated Intel 950 GMA.
I'd say, if he's going to college as in "Staying in the dorm", get the netbook for work and use the laptop for play as your "desktop" machine (so you don't have to lug it). -

Hmm. I don't remember when I started coming around here...
[/ QUOTE ]Heretic!
[/ QUOTE ]
No, just a combination of old age and Alzheimers setting in. -
Just a head-up to anyone who reads this, I'm saving a text copy of the thread in case it gets hosed in the rehost to vbulletin
-
I was talking mainly about the fatigue of simply standing around. Even with a padded floor, it's still brutal.
But yeah. Being "sociable" at a con for 8-10 hour a day can be...draining. To understate it dramatically.
This is why I don't bail from cons the night they close anymore. About an hour or two after everything's packed and ready to go, I come down off the caffeine+sugar high, the sphincters all loosen up and I turn to jelly for a good 8-10 hours.
Doing that behind the wheel of a car is just crazy (see "cordless bungee jumping") and slurping down additional caffeine doesn't help. -

Try it some day. Guaranteed that if you spend most of your time behind a computer desk typing? You're not gonna want to stand more than an hour before you get a huge back and foot ache.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do it twice a year. That's about all I can stand (no pun intended). By the end of a 4-5 day con, everything below your navel hurts, your feet and legs have been pounded into something roughly the consistency of warm jello and you wonder how people who work retail for a living do it (aside from a masochism so profound that you shudder to think of it). -
[ QUOTE ]
But I fail to see what is so exhausting about sitting there talking to people.
[/ QUOTE ]
You obviously haven't talked to a certain type of person.
You've probably heard of the type at least. The ones whose mere presence (let alone their conversational style) are the very definition of pain. So much so that, after a few minutes you turn into Garth "It's Sucking My Will To Live!".
Kinda like talking to someone who has the same verbal affect as Ben Stein, but without the brains to back it up. -

As a side note, I think END usage in general does need to be looked at. Stamina is still taken far too often to seem in any way optional for most AT's. But this isn't a tank-specific issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not so sure about this. While better End efficiency WOULD be nice, and you won't catch me building without Stamina anytime soon, I realize that the Fitness pool IS still optional. To be honest, Stamina is merely a brute force method of obtaining End efficiency while retaining higher levels of Acc, Damage, and Recharge. You sacrifice additional attacks and/or other types of support powers in favor of keeping the little blue bar full longer and resting less. -
Yo momma so fat she's the next plan for blocking access to the Rikti homeworld. Task Force Cork.

Yo momma so fat...
Well, there IS a reason you don't see Lusca around so much anymore... -
Nonono Forbin. I'm not talking about people who are in and legitimately USING the game, getting XP or not. I'm talking about the type of nether orifice that logs in, plays a while then picks up an AE mission or TF and goes and parks without logout.

Happy Berfday to you!

Okay, it's 3AM by me. So if I'm incoherent here, blame that. Not me. No. Not my fault at all. It's the exhaustion talking....yup!
Anyhow, if the devs, in their infinite *COUGH*wisdom*COUGH* decide to give tanks a buff, I'll shut my mouth and tank on. It won't really be NEEDED, but I have an aversion to views equine oral cavities.
OTOH, I think the root of the "idea" here is "When used stupidly, multiple *INSERT AT HERE* are redundant, or even detrimental on a team".
Notice I did NOT simply slot "TANK" in there.
On a team that knows what it is doing, multiple *INSERT AT HERE* (and even tanks) can be absolute steamrollers. But you have to be flexible and know how to adapt to the people you're playing with.
If you expect a tanker gang-bang to run like a Tank+2 Kins+Emp+2 Scrappers+2 Blasters, you're all going to die. Period.
The thing people keep getting confused about with tanks is the difference between "grabbing" aggro and "managing" it. A lot of tanks I've played with (and even myself at times) simply "grab" it and think that's enough.
So, if I'm right, and the root of the argument is that multiple tanks in stupid setups underperform a better managed and different combination of Tank+Other...
Sorry, the response this begs for is "WELL *BLEEP*ING DUH!"
Again, this may be the exhaustion talking. And I may be off in my assessment. If I am, please feel free to correct me. -
Okay, I will amend it to "extremely difficult" if you want to get on and play in an immediate fashion.
Better?
Spending an hour going *CLICK* "Have I connected? isn't much in the way of entertainment value to me.
And using in-game tricks to just flat out STAY connected throughout...I'll just leave this unsaid. -
Okay, I'm a Linux booster and Linux user from way way...WAY back (91-92 anyone?). Have a server in-house running Linux, dual-boot it on my main machine, and have a fallback system running it. Plus I have several Linux boxes implemented at work as well.
While Linux is seeing decent to excellent penetration in the business market, most of that penetration is SERVER SIDE. VERY little of it is Linux on the desktop.
THAT is where Linux pretty much "loses" to Windows. Until Linux sees significant penetration in the desktop arena, it's going to stay out of the mainstream consciousness. Unfortunately, to compete in the desktop environment, people pretty-much demand Windows, even if it ain't Windows.
I'd LOVE to be able to say differently. But I'd be lying through my teeth. -

And also, even with more than 4 gigs of ram in the machine, CoX still won't be able to use more than the 32bit architectural limit.
[/ QUOTE ]
Correct. CoH will max out at 2GB of memory usage. Where more memory comes in handy is when you have other things running in ADDITION to the OS and the game. -
Been up and running on XP-64 for over a year now. No issues to report. But, BIG BUT, I built my system with XP-64 in mind and have decent drivers. YMMV.

[ QUOTE ]
And why not point out other "facts" like in general only low end machines will really notice the lag
[/ QUOTE ]
No. Sorry. Lag is only PARTIALLY a function of your machine's ability to cope with the rendering load.
I can crank my resolution down to 1024x768 and lower the graphical settings to "butt ugly basic" on my GTX260, hop onto Freedom in AP1 and STILL experience fits and starts. This is with a quad core 2.5Ghz machine, 8 Gigs of RAM, with nothing but Windows, the Task Manager watching CPU load, and CoH running.
CPU load on NONE of the cores climbs above 50%, memory utilization pops at about 1.5GB.
AND I STILL GET LAG.
I can do the same thing on the lower pop servers and never get a frame twitch on me. Heck, I can turn my SQL server back on and it doesn't affect me.
Zone population, regardless of machine power, still has an effect on the zone's performance. -
Okay, no such thing as "best" server.
If you're looking for highest population server, that's Freedom. Hands down.
There IS a downside to this though.
Freedom and Virtue are the two highest population servers. HOWEVER, during events (like Double XP weekend, which is coming up next weekend), getting into those two servers is nigh-on IMPOSSIBLE. And, while you're on, it's a hellacious lag-fest due to various zones being full, sometimes several times over. With the advent of AE, I'm willing to bet, were you able to get on, 4-6 instances of Atlas Park running.
My advice? Start an alt on one of the lower-pop servers and work him a bit. Then park him until you feel like playing again. Like the NEXT double-XP weekend. -

Has AE made bad players?
[/ QUOTE ]
First off, HORRIBLE grammar!
One grammar-nazi demerit for YOU buster!
Second. No. AE hasn't created a group of bad players. They were there prior to AE. AE has merely highlighted their existence. -
Thanks. Just maxed mine at 120x45.
Now I don't have to chop stuff out and edit in a notepad. -
[ QUOTE ]
Will you use the same code to bold, change colors of text, quote, and that sort of thing?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, bbcode is bbcode for the most part. There might be SMALL formatting changes, but most boards are identical in this respect. -
LESS TALK! MOAR DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

So, really, you're just here to argue, right?

Isn't that the primary function (and power source) of the Internet?
